As the title states, I'm looking for a Wi-Fi Android 2.2 tablet for under $300.
Jerry, you are 100% wrong. Most Android tablets are less than iPad (which are junk), and are great. I have an android tablet and I only payed $90 for it.... the Kindle is a primary an ebook reader. I hope that was a joke, because the whole point of a tablet is very different than the whole point of an ebook reader. At least recommend a Nook that can run Android if you are going to comment complete rubbish.

The person recommending Kindle has obviously does not understand what Tablet means. Now i think that addiction to answer online questions without any knowlege can actually earn you "Top Contributor" title.

Anyways, i am also looking for answer to same question. Hope my analysis helps you decide which one is best for you.

Here are the main features an Android tablet can have (not in the order of importance):
Almost all the features below can be had under $300 as of 5/5/2011.

- Screen : size (i prefer 7")
type: capacitative is better (vs. resistive),
resolution: at least 800 x 480 for 7" (higher the better)
other features: Multi-touch (for pinch zooming), if possible LED (vs. LCD)

- Processor : dual core or at least Cortex A8, 800 Mhz (i prefer 1 Ghz)

- RAM : at least 512 MB

- OS : Adroid 2.2 or later and upgradable (this is important) with Adriod Market

- Storage: Depends on your need (i want at least 8 gb, if there's SD slot, see below)

- SD/MicroSD card slot: to expand storage by (i want high capacity upto 32 GB)

- Flash support is a must, preferably Adobe 10.1 (that's why iPad is junk for me)

- wifi-N (be careful many tabs have only wifi-b/g not n)

- Battery life: Most low end tablets give 4-5 hours which is good enough for me

- Bluetooth

- sim card slot and 3G support

- Camera (back and front) : (i can live with only a front cam for video chatting that i do probably once/twice a year) i don't expect to run around and take pics with my tablet :)

- GPS

- HDMI output to TV

- Replaceble battery

- Campass

- US based seller (stay away from chinese sellers)

Here are some of the quality tablets that come very close to my expectations with their pros/cons. None fulfils my expectation to make me buy it, so i will either wait for 6 months for Android 3 tablets with other features, or buy Coby Mid7024 for $175 for now and then buy a proper Android 3 tablet next year or 2012.

- Coby 7024 ($180) :1ghz cpu, 512mb RAM, SD slot upto 32gb, OS 2.2, resistive, HDMI out, webcam, Flash, wifi-G, USB
BUT no multi-touch, no bluetooth, no GPS, no 3G, No wifi-N, no Andriod market (rooting avlbl), only 4gb storage,

- Viewsonic viewpad 7 ($300): weak 600 Mhz cpu, 512mb ROM, SD slot upto 32gb, OS 2.2, capacitive, multi-touch, dual camera, blue-tooth, g-sensor, compass, quad band 3G, GPS, android market, leather cover
BUT no wifi-N (only G), no flash, no HDMI, no OS upgrade possible, no internal storage

- Archos 70-8gb ($270): 1ghz Cortext A8 cpu, 256mb RAM, SD slot upto 32gb, OS 2.2, capacitive, multi-touch, web-camera, blue-tooth, g-sensor, HDMI, wifi-N, Flash 10,
BUT 256mb RAM , may be a issue for OS upgrade, no GPS, no compass

- huawei ideos s7 slim ($249): 768 Mhz CPU, 256 MB RAM, OS 2.2, 3G, Resistive, SIM card slot,SD slot upto 16GB, Bluetooth, Flash support, GPS, Wifi N, Duel Camera, android Market, HDMI, compass(?)
BUT resistive screen, 256 MB RAM, SD slot only upto 16Gb
Wait for summer 2011 models : S7 Pro ($300+)
