Buying new tv - plasma or LED?

Buying a new 42in tv, which format is best plasma or LED and why? Was also going to go for a 3d tv but wasn't sure if it was worth it?

that's a vague open ended question, so i'll answer with a few possibilities:

best blacks: plasma

best brightness and contrast: close with newer LEDs, but plasma

coolest (literally and figuratively): LED

longest lasting: probably a wash...20k hours will take most people to their next purchase anyway

energy consumption: LED blows plasma away...generally very efficient, though new plasma TVs are now coming out that are very nearly as energy efficient

bang for buck considering size and picture: no doubt plasma. The cheapest plasma will blow the cheapest LED out of the water

best in a sunny room: plasma if no direct light, LED if sunlight streaming in

I would like to know which type of flatscreen tv is better for gaming. Led, LCD, Or Plasma. If someone would list the pros and cons of each ill make it top answer. I would just really like to know so for Christmas I can get rid of this big ass box tv that gets random green spots :D.

Definetly the LCD. They are the most durable and still have good picture quality. The only difference between led and LCD iz that for led the pixels move faster however they are more expensive. Do not get a plasma because if sunlight shines on the screen then it will burn the image onto screen. So in conclusion get the LCD

Why are Plasma TV's or LED TV''s better than LCD for sharp crisp pictures and more colors than LCD?

But Plasma TV's or LED TV''s are only good for 4 or 5 years but LCD are good for 12 to 15 years.

And they say the contrast (the amout of colors displayed) is higher.They go on to say old LCD had a low contrast meaning less colors displayed.Saying you may have a dark blue and light blue but no lighter lighter blue or lighter lighter lighter blue or lighter lighter lighter lighter blue of that .

And saying TV lack sharpness and bright colors?

1) Plasma TV's use a different technology, the gasses inside the TV create more rich colors than the LCD lightbulbs.
2) New Name Brand Plasma TV's now last up to 40,000 hours. LCD's are 50,000 hours. At 10 hours per day, you should see a Plasma last for over 10 years. By then it will be an "old and boring" TV
3) Plasma's are far superior in contrast, colors, sharpness, and in sunlight. LCD's are better against flourescent lights because they are brighter.

I have both technologies and am much happier with Plasma.

Many definitions of LED and LCD TV!
Their differences to a consumer as well as from the tecnical point of view are as follows:-

1. The viewing angle of LCD TV is less than that of LED TVs. LCD TVs are best viewed directly from infront and at the same plane as the screen i.e. a good view is not possible if viewed from the sides or from above or below the TV screen. LED TVs, on the other hand, has greater viewing angle.

2. LCD TVs can not be viewed under bright environment whereas LED TVs can be viewed even under direct sunlight. This is so because, the screen of LCD TVs made up of liquid crystals which changes color on passing current though it. Unlike LCD TVs, LED TV screens are made up of Light Emitting Diodes. Therefore, each tiny dot of light (pixel) on LED TV screen is like a light bulb and its glow is visible even under direct sunlight. For example, LCD TVs have the same screens as mobile phones and is not clearly visible under bright sunlight. You must have noticed that some mobile phones have light (a mobile torch).This torch is made up of an LED and thousands of such 'torch' form the LED TV screen.

3. LED TV consumes more power than LCD TVs. When and LED TV is turned on, we are actually tuning on thousands of tiny lights (LEDs) which consume more power than passing current on some liquid which is the case with LCD TVs.

4. LCD TV is more durable than LED TV under normal conditions. It is so because LED TV consumes more power than LCD TV and more power means generation of more heat which is the ultimately factor of wear and tear in electronic devices.

5. LCD TV saves power.

6. LED TV is costlier than LCD TV.

7. On running the TVs on backup power sources like UPS and inverters or if the TV were to be installed on vehicles, LCD TV will give a longer backup than LED TV.

If performance alone is considered, than LED TVs are preferred over LCD TVs. But where budget and durability is concerned, LCD TVs are the choice.

What is the Samsung Touch of Color on the LCD TVs?

I have the Samsung LN55C630 Series 6 55" Class ToC LCD 1080P HDTV but I don't notice the touch of color working. I read on a forum that it needs more light to work so I turned on more light but I still don't see it. Does it work only with sunlight reflections and is the Touch of Color a actual light or LED or just a special built in reflector?

"Touch of Color" just means that the TV has a reddish tinge on the unit. It is not a back-light, it is simply the color of the unit. And the red part is only about a quarter inch thick at the bottom of the unit just under the screen.

You will only notice it if light it directly on it, to see it just point a flashlight directly at the bottom of the unit. Take a look at this Tv http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31mvqA0KEUL.jpg It's a different model but its the same idea, there is a reddish tinge of color at the bottom of the unit.

I searching for new HD video cameras to do my own videos, and would like to know what's out there in the market. My budget is in $200 to $600.

I purchased panasonic HDC - TM55 last week just before going on a trip to charleston and smoky mountains. This camcorder has so many features packed in a tiny attractive body.

The main attractions
=====================
1) 25x optical zoom - this was very useful while taking photos as well as during video capture. There are not too many cameras which provide 25x useful optical zoomin such a small body. Photography and video capture at 25 x optical ( 35x intelligent zoom ) is a real big bonus. I found this to be very useful especially while on the boat in the sea and was able to capture snaps of seagulls very well.
2) Better shake reduction mechanism. Camera adjusts to most of the shakes. It even displays a message camera panning too fast.
3) Xenon flash and LED video light - Xenon flash is pretty useful for night photography. Video light doubles up as an AF lamp during photography as well as the light for night video capture. Light is good but it seems to be a bit weaker than the single LED flash of my blackberry bold. For a price range of around 500$ this is a nice feature to have. Another good thing is video light turns on automatically if the surroundings are dark. But videos whll have a bluish white tinge. Its better to be used as a flashlight if battery has enough juice left in it :).
3) Responsive touch screen - pretty good touch screen. Not any iphone like but still very good.
4) Well laid out menu - Lots of options in the menu. capability to play video alone, photo alone, both together ( thats a nice feature I think ).
5) Nice 2.7 LCD screen - > good bright sunlight visibilty. Rotating screen for self portrait or video capture. Screen buttons provide nice image/video tweaking opoortunities.
6) Quick Zoom in/out.
7) Fits perfectly in hand. The holding strap is also good. Battery provides nice support.
8) Support for high capacity memory cards. Cards will make camcorders even lighter. My sony vaio laptop has an SD card reader. So its very easy to plug the card in and see all videos/photos.
9)Relatively wide angle lens when compared to sub 500$ camcorders.
10) Nice bundled software for editing 1080i videos.

Cons
=====
1) power switch, memory card slot and AV/HDMI ports can be accessed only if LCD screen is open. Sure the camera will power on opening the LCD ( but not first time after immediate purchase ). To output to the TV, LCD would have to remain open.
2) Camera's automatic white balance seems to be a bit insufficient. Most of the time I had to manually set the white balance for a more natural appeal for the photos/videos.
3) Its good that there is a manual mode. But relying on touch screen to change the values is a bit dificult. Had there been some ring around the lens to adjust, it would have been good.
4) unlike panasonic Lumix ZS7 which gives an excellent portable charger, this camcorder requires battery to remain seated on the camcorder for charging to take place. Its Ok but a separate charger would have added to the excellent portability.

The above mentioned cons are not really deal breakers when we consider the fact that this product costs around 420$ with a bag full of usable positive features which any family/person might be looking for. Compact body, ease of operation, excellent quality of videos/photos ( if we can manually adjust white balance ) is good enough to look over the negatives. All in all this is a great product for a great price.
