Cool guy

American's cannot afford this AT ALL! This is ludacrist! Talk to your state senators and tell them to fight for your hard earned money and DO NOT let them give it to the top CEO's that are making millions off you anyway! WAKE UP!..Really has the Bush Administration ever led us in the right direction on anything!

Answer
He doesnt think it he knows it.How many Americans still believe a man walked on the moon when its been proven that no manned space craft can make it through the Van Allen radiation belts without frying much like in a microwave. The tape of Armstrong faking the whole thing has been public record for several years now.But they still teach in our schools and in our museums in games and childrens history books that man has walked on the moon. There the many reasons why the NWO team know they have the American public blinded and dumb enough to not see whats going on.Look into the water car invention, and what happened to its inventor. The truth will blow your mind.

America on the verge of being a police state.

The fed.was created and is owned by The Rothschild`s of London.
Do you really think they would make it obvious who owns the most crooked organizations in the world?

Do you realize what N.W.O. truely means and stands for?

Let me share a tad bit more info while im at it.

Look back at Pes. Kennedy`s speeches and what all he tryd to warn us was coming if we didnt do something fast. And then they silenced him.

One of the main problems with our kids today is the shots that the government MAKES them get.
Another is the fluoride poison that they ingest on a daily basis.
Another is the subliminal messages fed to their brains through tv and movies as well as the roll models that companies like disney create for them on purpose to corrupt their minds.

And ill share a little more info with you as by your question i feel you may not yet be aware of whats really going on in our world.

A little about Bush,
He is a skull and bones satanist who pretends to be a Christian.
He is a new world order puppet and or pawn of the big bankers such as Rothschild and rockefeller who cant wait to have a one world government such as was Hitlers dream.
He is the man who when asked about the events of 9/11 by young child on national TV stated he thought it was pilot error and didn't think much of it.
He is one of many in the government who knew ahead of time the NWO plans to destroy the world trade center and blame it on some idiot in a cave.
He is one of many in the government who profit from the war in iraq.
He is the grandson of Prescott Bush who helped fund Hitlers cause.
He is the brother of Marvin Bush who was in charge of security at the world trade center as well as the airport in question.
He is one of many in the government who helped hide the fact and still do today, that 9/11 was an inside job.
He and his father have been good friends of the benladin family for many many years.
He had oil dealings with the benladin family many years before 2001.
He is one of the major players in the corrupt patriot act witch if you look into it you will clearly see is disolving our constitution and bill of rights.
He is related by blood to the queen of england as are many in our government today.
He is Definately doing everything he can to TAKE AWAY OUR FREEDOMS AND PUT US FARTHER IN DEPT to the big banker owners of the world.
All this is Fact of public record look it up.
If your question was why have OVER 20 thousand us troops committed suicide since the war started,This would be a good part of the answer.

Look at the back of the tooth paste tube and read the warning, then look into the truth about flouride.Once you realize the government has been knowingly poisoning their own people for so many years a door will open up for you .

I warn you though the truth is scary and it does hurt.

Usama bin Laden had nothing to do with the events of 9/11.It has been proven and is public record that at least 9 of the suposed higackers are still alive today working there reg. job living their reg. lives. As well at least 8 of the so called 19 higackers were dead long before 9/11 2001.Do some real reseach and learn the truth.

It has also been proven and is public record fact that the anthrax sent to shut up certain members of the media was american military made.

If your looking for the real killer of Martin Luther King or John F. Kennedy or John Lennon or Princess Diana to name a few this may be a good bit of info to start you on your path.

J.F.K. used the word illuminate within his cryptic speeches for a reason.

Dem. Rep. Lib. none of that is reality any more wake up.If everyone in America voted for Obama (and i mean every single vote) he still wouldnt win the election if the NWO wants Mcain in and vice versa. It doesnt even matter witch one it is at all any more they all work for the NWO or they wouldnt be where they are at in polotics today. The same secret society that J.F.K. tried to warn us of in his speeches,The same illuminati that killed him to shut him up are who realy run this country.Who ever is in office is just a puppet pawn.

Good luck and God Bless

What's the difference between LCD, LED and Plasma televisions?

Genesis

Answer
LCD (Liquid crystal Display) uses a solid florescent back light to light up individual pixels in different ratios between red, green, and blue to get your colors. The color black is achieved by blocking the light in a certain pixel, but the problem here is that you can never get true black with LCD screens because there is still a light on behind it making the color actually more of a charcoal gray.

LED tvs work the same way. That is why LED tvs are actually technically called LED-LCD tvs. They use one of two back lighting schemes, and they use LED lights instead of florescent. The first type is edge lighting which uses a light on the four edges of the screen to light all the pixels on your tv. In this type of lighting you still run into color contrast issues and your blacks are never truly black. The other type is called local dimming LED tvs which use a grid of LED lights behind the pixels. This is the best because certain LED lights or cluster of lights can be turned off for your black color while other lights remain on for your other colors. In local dimming LED tvs you get a far better contrast ratio and a better picture quality overall.

Plasma tvs work differently. Behind every pixel there is a chamber that houses the plasma gas and when that gas is excited it causes that pixel to light up. Depending on the combination of red, green, and blue depends on what color you see, and to achieve black the pixel is simply not illuminated at all. This means that your blacks are truly black and your contrast ratio on plasma's is far better then LCDs and about the same (if not better) then local dimming LED tvs.

The pros and cons to each LCD and Plasma are:

LCD Cons: Narrower viewing angle, less contrast, less vibrant colors, and most models use a slower refresh rate causing image ghosting at times.

Plasma Cons: Uses a glass screen so glare is a potential problem in well naturally lit rooms, screen burn can be a problem, they are heavier and not capable of taking much abuse. The life of a plasma is also significantly less than LCD and it uses more energy to run it.

LCD Pros: No glare problems really so they work in just about any room, they use less energy and LED-LCD tvs use even less. They are lighter and are capable of more wear and tear so they are better for commercial applications. Screen burn is not a problem. And the higher end LCDs have good picture quality and refresh rates.

Plasma Pros: Wider viewing angle so every seat in the house is a good seat. Better contrast and more vibrant colors for a better picture quality (In my opinion). High refresh rates so fast pace games and movies tend to look great on plasma's.

I hope that helps you. If I had a choice between the three I would probably go with plasma only because recording technology hasn't really caught up with what LED tvs can do. I often find that LED tvs make everything look fake, and I personally like the picture quality of plasma tvs, but that's just me.

No games to play on the TV - just watch it. I'm thinking about buying a new one. Can you tell me the best to get?

Answer
Your choice will most likely come down to Plasma or LCD however, donât write off projection TVs. Rear projection TVs (RPTVs) donât provide quite the image quality and viewing angle of LCD and Plasma TVs but you canât beat them for price and screen size. Front projection devices can sit on a table or hang from the ceiling and throw a very large, high definition image on a screen or living room wall. To make the process of selecting the right HDTV display for you weâll provide an overview of the market and link to reviews and more information. Retrevo selects LCD TV reviews and Plasma TV reviews from some of the most respected reviewers of HDTV displays.

LCD vs. PLasma

By far the most popular TVs sold today are either LCD or Plasma. LCD TVs have enjoyed pricing benefits from using the same screens manufactured for computers but only up to a moderate size. Plasma TVs have the pricing edge on displays in the over 50 inch department.

Bruce Berkoff who heads up the LCD TV Association advises consumers to buy 32â and smaller sets today before they become less available and more expensive later this year. At he same time Berkoff predicts that 47â to 52â LCD TVs will come down in price in time for the holiday shopping season.

LED backlighting is starting to show up in laptop LCD displays like the MacBook Pro, replacing fluorescent backlights. White LEDs provide a brighter screen with increased contrast. Future TVs will not only offer white LED backlights but will also add red, green, and blue LED backlights that will enhance the whole image quality. Bruce Berkoff adds a dose of reality, âI wouldnât expect to see LED backlights in affordable LCD TVs for at least a year and maybe two.â

Best Plasma TVs

Pioneer still leads the market with the highest rated Plasma displays. The Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1, incorporates all the latest plasma technology like Deep Encased Cell Structure to produce images that reviewers say are artifact-free, rich, and natural. This 50 inch display can be purchased for well under $4,000. All the reviews for the Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1 are on Retrevo. The new Panasonic TH-50PX77U uses an antiglare coating to reduce one of the objectionable problems with plasma displays. This TV gets high marks from reviewers and users for accurate colors and deep blacks. It costs less than $2,000.

Best LCD TVs

Youâll pay about $2,500 for the Sharp Aquos LC52D62U, a 52â LCD TV but youâll be buying one of the top rated models that gets high marks for image quality, contrast levels, and shadow detail. The 40 inch Sony BRAVIA KDL-40XBR2 costs a little over $2,000. It offers a very wide viewing angle and has been consistently mentioned among the top rated LCD TVs for over a year. Read the reviews for the Sony BRAVIA KDL-40XBR2 at Retrevo. At $800, the Olevia Synrax Brillan is one of the best values on the market for a 37 inch LCD TV. It doesnât support 1080p resolution but on a TV this size, that shouldnât be a big issue.

We hope this helps. If you need more information on any consumer electronics check out http://www.retrevo.com and browse through our search engine of manuals, reviews, products or keep up on the latest consumer electronics news and insights through our blog at http://blog.retrevo.com/.

LED or LCD TV for $200 less?

Willis

Should I get a 50 inch LED tv or 50 inch LCD tv for $200 less? Is LED really that much better?
Both TVs are greater than $200... The LCD is $200 less than the LED.... And, I'm wondering which TV to chose. Thanks

Answer
There is a small power consumption difference between LED & LCD, for a 50 inch TV running 5 hours a day the cost of electricity would only be ~$11/year.

Xbox 360 Jasper or Valhalla?

led tv xbox 360 bundle image

stork

I am considering buying the xbox 360 that comes with Modern Warfare 2 and the 250 gb hard drive. I've heard that these are identical to the elites in terms of the Jasper chipsets. I also heard about the Valhalla chipsets that are supposed to run much cooler. Should I just wait until this starts showing up in stores? At the moment I have an older xbox 360 that I bought 2 years ago and I think its a zephyr model it does the job of playing games despite getting very hot and choppy when I play games for long periods of times. So its not like I absolutely need it right now but I WOULD like to upgrade for the controllers, 250 gb hard drive, and reduced console heat. If I got this I would install the games I play regularly to the hard drive and also buy the intercooler TS (This would drop almost all system heat by alot. I have an intercooler on my current xbox and it cuts the heat in half so I think the new console would be more than adequately cooled). What do people think I should do? wait for however long to get the newer valhalla chipset or spring and get the modern warfare 2 console?
Will the Modern Warfare 2 console still be out at christmas??? I don't know if anyone has seen the new intercoolers but they snap on the back and are powered by a seperate AC adapter no longer leeching the power from 360

Answer
Since the Xbox 360 MW2 edition is a limited edition roll out nobody knows if it will be available on christmas.

250GB Elite Modern Warfare 2 Limited Ed
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I0HDLE?tag=dcmb-20

Pre-ordered this bundle back in September, was worried at first about the release date shipping. This is my first release date purchase through Amazon. Received it at 10 am on release date...awesome. Now that we have that out of the way. This bundle is a great deal for first time Xbox users/purchasers. Comes with 2 controllers, this is great for a family purchase....no more children fighting over taking turns until you get to the store to purchase another controller. The 250 GB harddrive is great. I currently own 2 other 360's(one is mine, the other purchased for my wife) both 20gb. With all of the music, movies, and DLC I have had to constantly delete stuff that I have paid for just to make room for new games. This led me to purchase the 250GB harddrive, after transferring everything over I still have TONS of room to install all of my most played games. (For those of you new to 360's...this helps the games run smoother with less load times and it keeps the noise level down on the system). If you are a fan of the COD franchise or even new this 360 is great! The black 360 with the custom MW2 theme looks great. I have always thought about painting my other 360 black to make it look better in my entertainment center...black 58" tv, black surround sound system, black cable box, black modem, and lastly a black PS3. A White xbox stands out quite a bit amongst all of this equipment. I would highly recommend this purchase to people just starting out with the new gaming system or even hardcore 360 players who are just looking to expand the experience. I know this review is getting extensive but im just trying to cover everything....now on to the MW2 game. SIMPLY AMAZING! Looks great, sounds great, plays great. I have been into the COD franchise for quite a while, have been religiously playing COD 4 MW for over 2 years now and can see myself playing this one for another 2 as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME! Thanks for reading the review and happy gaming!

Answer
Please learn how to type properly first. It's hurting my head reading your question.

I would personally get the TV as a good TV is the most important thing to me out of those things. If you have an iPhone 4 then an iPad is just a giant version and unless you love playing games on it you won't get much out of the iPad. If you get the TV bundle with the PS3 you won't really need the 360 to go online so you could play 360 offline (or try to get it fixed for much cheaper) and play online games for PS3? Only get Kinect if you have a 8ft (minimum) long and tidy/clear room or it will just give you a headache. When it works however it is a very good piece of kit and I would recommend it. I know nothing about rifles so I can't help you there. Sorry.

Hope you get something nice and good luck =]

WHat is the difference between an LCD and a Plasma HDTV?

led tv 60 inch 240hz

led tv 60 inch 240hz image

Frightened

I am looking to buy a new tv and need to know (without a comission chasing sales rep) what the difference is between the two types of tv.
The size is hopefully going to be around 46" and up to 50" (inches)
If that makes a difference.

Answer
LCD - is the everyman HDTV. It is cost effective, hence its popularity. It is also physically lighter than Plasma. It tends to draw less power than Plasmas as well (though good Plasmas are now competing with LCDs). It has a matte finish so is useful for rooms that have too much ambient light which can not be controlled. LCD whites are a bit brighter than Plasma whites (but how often do you crank your brightness to 100%). LCDs are considered better for gaming (but I don't think you'd be disappointed with gaming on a modern Plasma). LCDs are sharper in SD (think evening news instead of film); this isn't a good vs bad, its just a personal preference thing. LCDs also have a bit more muted colors; again this isn't good vs bad, its purely personal preference.

LCD technology has problems with fast motion though. That is why you see ones advertised with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates (100Hz and 200Hz in Europe). This does not come close to Plasma though. So they aren't as good for fast motion (sports and movies). The 240Hz ones are making good strides, but right now you're paying a HUGE premium for it.

LCDs are also not as strong with their ability to reproduce true blacks. Their blacks tend to be a bit grey and not a true black. LCDs with LED backlighting are coming out now though. These are finally starting to bring LCDs to the Plasma level in terms of blacks. However, like the 240Hz refresh rate, you must pay a large premium for this feature at the current time.

Plasma - they have better blacks (true black), contrast (greater ranges in blacks/whites so you get greys instead of clumps of black and white), and motion playback (their refresh rate is near instantaneous much like old CRTs were). Their overall image quality is better than that of an LCD. While prices on them are constantly dropping, they do demand a slight premium over LCDs of a similar category. The colors in Plasmas tend to have more "pop" to them; this isn't a good vs bad thing, its just personal preference. Also for SD viewing they are a bit "softer" (think more like film less like the evening news). This isn't a good vs bad thing, its personal preference. Most plasma owners get used to it and don't mind it.

Plasma's are glass though so are glossy. They can have reflection issues if you are in a room with lots of light that you can't control (you can't turn off the lights and you don't own any blinds). And good Plasma care would require you condition them. But its fairly simple to do. All you have to do is keep the brightness and contrast (picture) settings cranked way down for the first 100-200 hours, then optimize, and you'll have an amazing TV experience.

Plasma myth (1) - They experience burn-in. This is inaccurate, those days are gone. Just condition the gasses and then use it as normal and you're fine. Also, the better sets have built-in features to prevent this (on top of the technology just generally being better now than say 5 years ago).

Plasma myth (2) - They have short life spans. This is another inaccuracy. Most are now rated in the 60,000-100,000 hours range. At 8 hours a day 365 days a year that would mean a life of 20-30 years. So do you think you'll still want/own the same TV in 15 years, let alone 30?

Plasma myth (3) - They won't work in high altitude because of problems for the gasses. This is again no longer an issue. Current Plasmas can be purchased and used in mile high Denver, and above, so you'll be fine where ever you are (unless you're living in the Himalayas).

Plasma vs LCD - One important note though is TV size. In 42" and above you see and get the benefit of the Plasma advantages. But 40" and smaller and the benefits are diminishing. So if your needs are for a smaller television, LCD may be a wiser choice.

Plasma brands - Pioneer Kuro Elite is the best, followed by Pioneer Kuro. But these can cost as much as a small car. Panasonic Viera is the next best and is much more cost effective. The Vieras can give the Kuros a run for their money (they might not win, but they are no push over in quality). After that I would look to Samsung primarily as a Plasma option. There are also some LG models that have reviewed extremely well (but do your homework).

LCD brands - I would stick with Samsung, Sharp Aquos, and Sony (but only Sony if its on sale, otherwise it tends to be overpriced). Sony stopped manufacturing LCD panels, they now buy/use the same ones used in the Sharp Aquos sets. Samsung is a step above the rest if you go with the series 6 through 9 models. The series 4/5 are strong performers as well, but a bit better suited for 37-40" or smaller. If you go with a larger set, look to the more advanced series. With Sony the XBR6/7/8 lines are all strong. Again, the bigger the TV the more likely you want the higher numbered line.

What TV should I buy- LED or PLASMA?

Rick

I am thinking of buying a big TV. I presently own a 26 inch LG LCD TV and I am feeling that its too small. So I am thinking of buying a 42 inch or a 50 inch plasma TV. I have heard that plasma TVs may give some problems. Is it true? On the other hand, I don't want to spend so much in a LED TV. So should I buy a 50 inch plasma TV or a 40 inch LED TV. Please help!

Answer
- Top brands: Panasonic (Plasma) and Samsung (LED). (Plasma > LED > LCD). (LCD is going to be discontinued. A LCD tv uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps/CCFL backlights. A LED tv is a LCD tv, but with white or red, green, blue LEDs on the edge of the screen or a full array on the back of the screen).
= Plasma has best picture and audio quality (best response times, best viewing angle, best color quality, less/no motion blur for crisp/clear images because how it's refresh rate works). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn issues by using pixel shifting/scrolling. LCD/LED is best for bright rooms and have most light coming off the screen (Plasmas are not great for bright rooms because of screen glare and faded picture, but do great for dim or dark rooms). Newer Plasmas use less energy consumption and they are cheap to buy. LED are more popular because the manufacturers want to sell you their LED cheap made expensive tvs rather than their cheap Plasmas.

- I recommend 1920x1080p for movies, computer monitor/display, some tv shows, and some game console games and I recommend 1280x720p for some tv shows and some game console games. I recommend 40+ inches for movies and/or tv shows and 20-30 inches for computer monitor and 30-40 inches for game console games.
- FPS (frames per second): Every video consists of a number of frames per second, think of a video as a fast moving flip book. NTSC countries use 60i or 30i FPS (newer stations use 30p or 60p FPS) for tv shows. PAL/SECAM countries use 50i or 25i FPS (newer stations use 25p or 50p FPS) for tv shows. Movies use 24p/25p FPS (first movie to use 48p was LOTR: The Hobbit). Games use anywhere to 2 to 120 FPS (older games use lower FPS while newer games use higher FPS, usually they are up to 60 FPS today).
- TV refresh rate (measured in hz): Example, A tv with a refresh rate of 120 hz means it refreshes/flashes the entire screen 120 times a second.

- How do LED or LCD tv refresh rates work with the FPS of a video? (I recommend real/true 240hz refresh rate, some tv advertising may fool you by listing the fake interpolation or fake backlight scanning/dimming refresh rates).
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_interpolation (Names of the new technologies for newer tv's at the link): Motion Interpolation or Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation (MCFI), is a form of video processing in which new fake frames are generated between existing ones to up the FPS of a video to reduce motion blur and/or for judder removal/judder adjustment. MCFI video processing may cause gamer input lag and/or artifacts such as the soap opera effect (may ruin the look of a video).
- Many tv's allow viewers to turn motion interpolation (MCFI) off. The tv repeats the frames a certain number of times to match the tv's refresh rate. Example; To display 24 frames per second on a tv with a 120 hz refresh rate, each frame is repeated 5 times every 24th of a second.
- But what happens if the FPS of a video does not match the refresh rate of the tv? Then you get a pulldown, a pulldown is what causes a jittery screen (aka judder) because the tv repeats the odd frames a different amount of times the tv repeats the even frames. Example; A 3:2 pulldown is post popular because it is needed to match a 24 fps video with a 60hz refresh rate tv, odd frames are repeated 3 times (12x3=36) and even frames are repated 2 times (12x2=24) and 36+24=60 FPS for a 60hz refresh rate tv.

How does Plasma tv refresh rates work with the FPS of a video?
- It will take each pixel in a frame and and repeat it a number of times based on the number of sub-field drives (SFD) the tv has with it's refresh rate. Example 1; (NTSC countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 60hz FPS x 10 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate. Example 2; (PAL/SECAM countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 50hz FPS x 12 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate.
- What is focused-field drive (FFD) on Neo-Plasmas? (Light switching speed = better colors and less motion blur) 2500hz focused field drive means sub-fields are virtually packed into 1/2500th of a second as a sharp impluse, creating crisp motion images even in very very fast movining images (FFD is defined as a inverse of light emission period t. 1/t = 1/0.4ms = 2,500 FFD). Regular sub-feild drives like 50 FPS x 12 sub-fields = 600 hz, light emission spreads as wide as 1 field time (1/60th sec) maximum which results in blurry images for very very fast moving images.
- Refresh rates on Plasmas work similar to LED/LCD tv's. These settings are usually automatic, but you can change them in the advanced picture settings, Example 1; 2D 24p FPS mode and choose refresh rates of 48hz/96hz or 30hz/60hz with pulldown (might use interpolation frames for pulldowns), Example 2; 3D mode and choose refresh rates of 96hz for 24 FPS or 100hz for 50 FPS or 120hz for 60 or 24 fps.ect Of course it has gamer mode or many other adjustments.

Tyler

I have a 40" Seiki HD Led TV that I got for X-mas and it is weird to play CoD Black Ops 2. I was curious if I need to set up the TVs picture in a specific way? My HD component cords are hooked up and I have my Xbox on the HD 1080p settings. Can anyone help me, please?

Answer
If you're referring to the lagtime between the video out from the XBOX to your TV, the time of this lag is so minute that it is incomprehensible to the human eye. I think you're fine, mate.

How do I fix the delay between my tv and xbox!?

Bill

I just bought a Sharp LED, and I hooked up my Xbox, and there is a delay. Everybody knows you cant play Call of duty with a delay!! Plz help

Answer
When the console is set to 1080p this will give you best graphics but lower refresh rate which causes delay

Setting it to 720p will lower the quality slightly but will give a higher refresh rate

Answer
No. You would be wise to avoid Dr. Oz.

Dr. Oz is a celebudoc and a part-time quack who peddles questionable health information to the public for his own personal gain, his selfcentric need for the limelight, and his kooky dabbling in pseudoscience. A hightly credentialed and lauded physcian/surgeon, Dr. Oz is the worst kind of information source because he promotes both good and bad information in equal measure making it all but impossible for his audience to separate the fact from the fiction and, thereby, leaving them to conclude that much of his quackery is in fact truth. The painful results has been hordes of people spending their hard earned money on hopeless remedies and tonics such as acai berries, respberry ketones, green tea, and African mango extracts.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of experts who are speaking out about his quackery

Ref: http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/jref-news/1260-pigasus-2011.html
"The Media Pigasus Award goes to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who has done such a disservice to his TV viewers by promoting quack medical practices that he is now the first person to win a Pigasus two years in a row. Dr. Oz is a Harvard-educated cardiac physician who, through his syndicated TV show, has promoted faith healing, "energy medicine," and other quack theories that have no scientific basis. Oz has appeared on ABC News to give legitimacy to the claims of Brazilian faith healer âJohn of God,â who uses old carnival tricks to take money from the seriously ill. He's hosted Ayurvedic guru Yogi Cameron on his show to promote nonsense "tongue examination" as a way of diagnosing health problems. This year, he really went off the deep end. In March 2011, Dr. Oz endorsed "psychic" huckster and past Pigasus winner John Edward, who pretends to talk to dead people. Oz even suggested that bereaved families should visit psychic mediums to receive (faked) messages from their dead relatives as a form of grief counseling."

Note the excerpt: "Dr. Mehmet Oz is a huge promoter of vaccines. Heâs been on television reinforcing fear about H1N1 swine flu and telling everyone to get vaccinated. But what he didnât tell his viewing audience is that he holds 150,000 option shares in a vaccine company that could earn him millions of dollars in profits as the stock price rises. It is in Dr. Ozâs own financial interest, in other words, to hype up vaccines and get more people taking them so that his own financial investments rise in value."

Pawn shop value for a Samsung 40 inch LED LCD tv?

Rachel

I have a 40 inch Samsung LED LCD Tv (barely used, bought in april 2011) that goes for about $800 on Amazon.

What would a pawn shop likely offer for it? $200? $400? Less? D: I would hope for half (400) but, I have no idea!

I am in the Seattle area, if that matters. Pawn shops everywhere..

Answer
I can't comment on all pawn shops, but the pawn shops in Glendale Az are scrambling for flat screens right now as there is a big demand. Consequently, we're paying more than typical for a nice, clean television.
Hope this helps,

Xbox 360 Jasper or Valhalla?

What are some real, effective, and reasonably priced energy saving systems for a new construction house?

led tv looks weird image
Q. Building a new house in a year or so. I would like to make it as green as possible, but it has to look like a conventional house (no massive solar panels or windmills) and I won't spend a fortune on fringe technology that has no real-world returns. What's the best bang for the buck? Geo thermal HVAC? On demand hot water heaters? LED lighting? Any other ideas that are reasonably priced, and produce a real energy savings? (pay for themselves in five years or so...)

Answer
Ever been in a basement that's not heated in the winter time? It's cool, but not unbearable. How about a basement that's not air conditioned in the summer? It's generally not as hot as the rest of the house.

I'm not saying build your house underground. That doesn't meet your standards. The concept of having a 2 story home with a basement comes to mind though. The way it would work is your first floor would be 1/2 underground 1/2 above. The basement of course would be under it, and the second level would be above the first of course. It would be preferred that a home like this be built on a hill, and the second floor would make it not look weird.

In the US, most homes are built using 2X4 wall beams. It would cost some extra coin, but switching that up to 2X6 wall beams would give room for more insulation. More insulation will increase the efficiency dramatically. A minor problem arises in purchasing doors for the home. This problem isn't a problem though because the door openings can be reduced to 2X4, or your contractor will probably know where to get doors that fit. Windows are designed different from doors so this wont be a problem for them. This also allows for larger ductwork through the walls. This will reduce the load on your central heating/cooling system's blower saving some coin. Use of 2X6 framing also opens a new avenue for adding custom features like in-wall shelving.

It's fairly common to see a room with a switch by the door controlling an outlet for a lamp to be plugged into. Having switches like this installed all over your house to cut off power to things like TVs when no-one is in the room would save some nice coin. You will need outlets that are not switch controlled too for things like clocks, and cable boxes/satellite receivers that have interactive services like TV Guide and battery chargers. That's your chance to learn from my mistake. I converted my home so that all the outlets ran on switches, and purchased battery powered clocks. I had to undo some of it so my cable box would work right.

Often less is more, and more is less. I purchased an air conditioner rated for the size of room I have, and it didn't cut it. It never was cool in the room, and my power bill went up by $100 a month. I decided to upgrade it, and bought one 3 times the size for $200 more. This reduced my electric bill by $50 a month from what the first cost me. In 4 months it paid for itself.

Installing multiple lighting systems in each room can save you big money if used right. It can also be more comfortable to the eyes. A low power lighting system for regular use, and a task lighting system for when you need the extra light. I use just a 10 watt bulb in my hallway for normal everyday traffic. I can see well enough to get through it. When I need to vacuum the hallway though I turn on a 100 watt bulb, and can see it very well. This system is also very good to have in the bathroom because when someone is making use of the toilet, they don't tend to need extra light. When they are using the mirror though they want a lot more light. It applies very well in the kitchen too. Under cabinet lights can give the task based lighting needed to cook, and over-head lighting will allow a person to pass through the kitchen without stubbing their toe on a cabinet, or stepping on that fork someone dropped.

A switch at every door! Some rooms have multiple doors, and often is the case that someone will walk into the room on one side, and turn the light on, then as they walk out on the other side there is no switch so the light gets left on. It doesn't cost much to install a multiple switch situation.

Having all the plumbing in a home in one central area can be a big savings also. Not so much in energy as in water which also costs money. In some homes, you turn on the water in the bathroom or kitchen, and have to wait for hot water to come out. The closer everything is together the shorter the wait, and the less water wasted.

Having a closed in porch can save you big too. In the winter when it's windy, you will open the porch door, and enter, and while you take the step across the porch to the front door of your house the porch door will close behind you blocking the wind as you enter your home.

Whether or not to install a geothermal HVAC system in your home will depend on what it costs in your area to install. It may not be a viable option. LED Lighting can be an option, but I suggest you try it in your current home before investing in a whole house system. You may or may not like it, or may only want it in certain rooms/situations. On demand hot water systems are efficient for 2-3 people living in a home. If you have more, then the system will use more power heating the water than the older system using a tank. This is because it takes a lot of power to heat water right now. The older system instead uses less power to heat it over a period of time.

Appliance placement can save you money too. Most washers and dryers are set up side by side. Well most people wash their clothes in cold water, and the dryer uses heat to dry the clothes. Washers and dryers are not insulated. Separating them will keep the cold water from sucking the heat out of the dryer, so the dryer wont have to work as hard. A simple insulated wall between the 2 the height of the washer and dryer can make a huge difference. Insulating the walls around your hot water heater can make a difference when you are using the air conditioning. Everything in this paragraph is not common even in new homes.

When choosing your appliances remember less is more once again. Less features like digital controls means less power used. That microwave with the digital clock sitting in your kitchen, well it uses power 24/7 whether you are using it or not. The time with a timer that you turn the knob to use doesn't. When it's off, it is off. Gas cook stoves that use electronic ignition instead of a pilot lighting system don't sit there generating heat when your air conditioning is on, and using gas. Refrigerators with through the door ice and water avoid constantly opening the freezer to get ice out. If someone in your home bakes a lot, then an in-wall double oven system will probably make them happier, and since they can use both at once, the heat from 1 will make the other more efficient. They will also spend less time using 2 at once rather than using 1 longer. This will help cut down on cooling bills in the summer.

Insulating all the pipes in your home can help too.

What models, theories and laws in physics have been tested and validated that led to the invention of the TV?

Benson

Can u guys please help me with this, it would mean so much to me.

Answer
The TV is akin to a computer. An old-timy CRT (cathod ray tube) TV works by shooting electrons at certain phosphorescent elements. These elements, when hit with some energy (say electrons from a cathode ray tube) will emit certain colors light. Depending on where the electron beam hits, it will spark a certain color. If you get enough of these "cells" close enough you can spark 1 green, 1 blue, and 1 red to make white color...or you can hit any combination of that to make many OTHER colors.

Modern, LED and Plasma TV's work slightly differently, but the principal is the same (shine red/blue/green light or some other combination to make all the colors).

The transmission of TV signals is a little more interesting. Basically what you do here, is you encode a signal which has all of the data for which pixel should be lit up with what color and you send it to to the TV (through a transmission tower). The way it's encoded is complicated. It's easier to first understand radio instead of TV signals. A radio signal is simply an amplitude wave that corresponds directly to what the speaker should do. There are two types: AM and FM (and now there are others like Satellite radio).

AM is the easiest to understand. It stands for amplitude modulation. So what you do is you create a certain frequency and then change the amplitude! The amplitude defines the signal (what the radio's speaker should do to recreate the sound). You can picture two things:

1) a sound wave (some weird looking thing)
2) a sinusoid...perfect sine curve.

The AM signal simply changes the amplitude of the sine-wave so that if you looked at it (averaged over many cycles), you would see the sound wave. You can visualize this by drawing a random sound wave then simply putting in oscillations that touch the sound wave all over, sort of like this: http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/images/pictures/physics/amplitudemodulation.jpg

FM is a little harder to understand. FM stands for frequency modulation. So in this case it's the frequency that is changed (over some predefined range). This is why FM is at a higher frequency (compare 1200 MHz, AM, with 97 MHz, FM). The frequency you receive (based on your bandwidth, which you can figure is around .1 MHz ~ 100,000 Hz) tells you the frequency you should emit at. This is based on some central "homing" frequency. This is much harder to visualize as it requires a Fourier Transform to get the actual signal.

Either way, both of these illustrate how a signal can be put into an electromagnetic wave. The carrier frequency determines the channel it comes on and then there is a complex decoding process which actually converts the signal into something your TV can display properly...

Modern TVs are more complicated, but the basics are the same. There is a signal, the signal is decoded some how by the TV, then the TV creates electrical impulses that light pixels and the pixels make the picture you see on the TV. The only complication is in how the signal is decoded (which can be very complex).

Other than microprocessor technology (i.e. computers), all of this is done using physics from the 19th century. The basics are 19th century physics, while the inner workings (the processing) DOES utilize quantum mechanics (specifically semi-conducting transistors, which make modern computing possible--without them there would be NO technology like PCs or the internet).

Is there a way to purify water using the sun's energy? An affordable method everyone could have?
Thanks you guys, I'd like to make a miniature one for ALL people to be able to collect rainwater, then purify it. I'll be researching your ideas.
Yse, Jim, I was trying to open a dialog where someone could come up with a way for peoples around the world to have access to their own drinking water derived from rain water. thank you all who responded, I "lerned" something already. Anyone else want to answer before Jim get 10 points?
Sorry about the spelling errors, everyone.

Answer
Water has the highest specific heat of any liquid below the molecular weight of 100 - it really takes a lot of energy to boil water!!! Using solar energy to boil water is certainly possible, but are you really interested in creating drinking water, or distilling water?

Someone in India needed an affordable way to make lots of drinking water inexpensively (I saw this on TV). What they came up with was a "germicidal" UV lamp and a shallow aluminum tray for the water to pass under the lamp, thereby "purifying" the water to drinking water quality by killing all the bacteria.

The germicidal lamp fits in an ordinary fluorescent fixture, and is very efficient on power. His task was to design the parts that would certify that all the bacteria was killed. The design will treat LARGE volumes of water economically; something a distiller won't do.

One more important point to consider: a true steam distillation process is intended to remove the minerals from the water as well as everything else. You need to think this through very carefully and research what happens when people drink (only) distilled water.

Because of difference between salinity in people's body and the distilled water, the distilled water will strip the electrolytes (minerals) from your body. This is not a good thing! If you distill the water, you'll have to add some minerals back before it would be drinking water quality.

This is why the bottled water at the store offers both drinking water (water with small amounts of minerals) and steam distilled water (for your steam iron, where you don't want any minerals)

One other person in Yahoo! Answers wanted to purify water using UV LED technology - UV LEDs operate at even lower power that UV germicidal bulbs, and could be driven by solar cell/battery combinations. UV LEDs are just now becoming available, and will soon be affordable.

This is assuming that the water you have is drinkable but just needs to be affordably cleaned of bacteria.

Water that is brackish or saline would need to be steam distilled, but that is expensive due to the energy required. There are other water treatments available (osmosis, filtering, dissolved mineral removal such as iron, hard water treatment, etc), but these cost money.

Answer
You can expect to be offered anywhere between 10% and 40% of the itemâs âfair market valueâ.

So, if the TV was $1000 new it's "fair market value" is less now - maybe $700?

And 10-40% of $700 is $70-$280 - so maybe what you'll be offered will be somewhere in that range?

can I use power bar with tv/cable box or will it delete cable signal?

Kirsti

I heard you can save 60% by using power bar with tv and digital cable box. My husband says he tried it and lost cable signal briefly when he turned off the tv/cable so doesnt want to keep using. Cable provider says he`s nuts. They say as long as tv and box are turned off with remotes first and then power bar is switched off, all should be ok. is this right? we are miles away from nearest service tech guy so dont want to risk it.

Answer
You're talking pennies, so maybe you might forget this altogether.

A 42 inch plasma HDTV might draw 250 watts when turned on. In the U.S., that usually equates to about 5 cents per hour on your electric bill. Add another 3 cents for the cable box.

When the TV is "off" it's really in standby, which is one watt or less. That's about one to two dollars per year on the electric bill.

If you have an LCD/LED TV instead of plasma, it's probably even less.

Any gadget you use to skim those costs will obviously save you very little, and may give you headaches as you've already experienced. I wouldn't use anything like that.

What you SHOULD be using, if you're not already, is a very good surge protector, rated at something better than 1000 joules. For me, 2000 is the minimum and 4000 is much better. Visit the electrical department of a big hardware store or home improvement center if you don't have one. In fact, unplug your TV and cable box NOW if you don't have one. Damage due to voltage surges is one of the most common issues we see on this forum, and it's always due to failure to use a surge protector. Good luck.

What would parents do if they came home and found the TV screen broken?

Connor

Suppose parents came home from work, and they discovered that the TV screen was broken with glass all over the floor. Would they start asking questions? If so, how would they be able to prove that one of the kids broke it?

The TV in question was made in 2001, and has an old, antiquated glass tube (you know, the kind that needs a converter box in order to get anything on it) rather than a modern flat-panel LCD or LED. The TV is almost as old as I am, and I think it's definitely time for a new high-definition one. They don't cost that much anymore these days.

I would like to break it while no one else is home, and then when my parents come home, I will be away. I'm hoping that rather than asking questions, they will just say, "oops, looks like the TV's broken. Guess it's time for a new one.".

Answer
Try to connect the audio output cable at proper place .A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits, including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a video monitor, rather than a television.
http://www.55tv.org/best-55-inch-tv/
A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult or dangerous. Some studies have found a link between infancy exposure to television and ADHD.

For another $80 you can get a Samsung UN32EH5300 which is a smart tv so you can get on the internet stream videos and stuff. However a PS3 can do all of that stuff too so you might as well save your $80 and get a couple of games.
