Can i play my 3rd generation ipod touch on my samsug series 5 led tv?

the chosen

i have a samsung series 5 led tv and i am wondering if i can play ipod videos and music on it. it has 2 usb ports and can play other videos.

Answer
You cannot over USB. USB only works with regular FAT drives and file systems. The iPod touch is not that.

You will need an iPod A/V cable to connect your iPod to the TV to watch.

Should I get a projector or tv for my home theater?

led tv viewing distance
on ... Series (4K TV) : BRAVIA HD TV (LED TV & LCD TV) : Sony Asia Pacific
led tv viewing distance image

the man

I'm building a home theater with surround sound and whatnot, I just need the main part now. I can't decide whether to buy a HD projector or TV. I've heard that the display qualities of the projectors are lower than that of TV's in general, but others say that it's just because the screen is so large. I want to be able to mount the screen in front of a TV so I can watch the news without feeling like I need to get popcorn, so is there a way to mount it from a stand or something? I've also heard that the bulbs need replacing every few years for like 400 bucks...

The main question though, is quality. Compared to, say, and LED set, does a projector's color and 1080p look as good? Or better?

And which company/price range/model should I stick to?
Thanks @Alex, I have the couch about 15 feet away, and there is a window in the room but I'm probably going to be watching movies at night anyways. I'm mounting the screen in front of the TV so I can retract it when I want to watch other things, thanks a lot!

Answer
The answer does depend on factors like the layout of your room.

Will you be viewing from over 12 feet away?
Can you keep out all external light even during daylight hours?
If the answer to both of these is yes, then a projector may be right for you.

I want the best picture quality I can afford.
I can put furnature wherever gives me the best viewing position.
The answer is probably a TV.

To get a cinematic experience from a TV, you need a very big TV and to sit very close to it.
I've got a 60" plasma and a viewing distance of about 8 feet.
If I view it from 18 feet, you can't tell the difference between HD and SD.
From 8 foot, SD looks rubbish. 1080p looks fantastic though.
From 12 feet both SD and HD are watchable, but it's not as cinematic.

I've painted the wall behind the TV black, so when the lights are out there's no light wash from the wall behind, the picture just floats.

Some projectors are very poor, even the HD ones. You get what you pay for. By the time the bulb goes once or twice you'll probably be considering buying your next upgrade anyway, so don't worry too much about that, just factor it in to the purchase cost decision.

Some 50 inch TVs are very good for a sensible price, but make sure to do your research because there are still a few howlers out there, not all of them the cheapest ones.

Can computer Led/Lcd monitor upscale lower resolution video to fit in higher resolution screen?

ANTIMATTER

Ok it's probably a noob question.

As far as I know HD led/lcd tvs can upscale lower resolution game video/frames(ps3 xbox 360) to fit the whole screen.

So I need to know can computer monitor with hd resolution support (1920x1080) upscale 1360x768p resolution game video/frames to fit the whole screen?Or I need to play at native 1920x1080p resolution so that the monitor can fill the whole screen? Is there any special type or model of any Lcd/Led monitor that can upscale Pc game's frames from lower resolution to fit the whole screen? Is this any special feature for computer Led/Lcd monitor? If so what is this feature is called/named?Do different manufacturers lcd monitor have different names of this feature?

the reason I am asking is because I play at 1360x768p resolution on 16 inches lcd monitor and now I am thinking about updating to a 1920x1080p monitor. But if I play at 1360x768p resolution will there be blank spaces around the edges of monitor screen or the monitor will upscale the game frames to fit the whole screen ?
ok those blank bars do make me feel the monitor is not used to it's full potential

kind of makes the monitor feel empty and game screen with black bars also feels

quite weird to me.

So what is the aspect ratio of 1360x768 resolution 16:9 or 16:10?Will it upscale and fit to 1920x1080 resolution monitor or leave blank bars outside the game frame?

Answer
1360x768 is 1.7708333 ratio. 1920x1080 is 1.777777 ratio. Very close.
16:10 is 1.6 ratio. 16:9 is 1.77777 ratio. As you can see, the 16:9 ratio screen best fits both the resolutions you are trying for.
But there is a cost to upscaling. Since you cannot manufacture greater detail out of a lower resolution signal like 1360x768, what upscaling does is to add in duplicated pixels every so often. Since there are (1920-1360 = 560) more pixels to put into the picture, that means somehow those 560 pixels are added over the spread of 1920 pixels. About every 3.42 pixels another one is added. Actually it goes 3,3,4,3,4,3,3,4,3,4 etc. As you can see, a lot of duplicates are added. The resolution is not any better. It is just expanded to cover greater area of screen. It does get fuzzier if you compare side by side. But you are supposed to view from a greater distance so you will not notice.
And, I think the standard is 1366x768, not 1360x768. That gives a 1.7786 ratio.

I have the chance to get a new laptop but I couldn't choose between the Hp Envy 14 Beats Edition and the MacBook Pro. I like how the Envy has the slick, black design with the beats logo and audio. I am pretty serious about music sound quality and the Envy can give you this (I also do have Beats by Dre which I heard is to be amazing when connected with Beats Audio laptops).Yet I love how the Pro also has a slick yet more sturdy design than the PC. Also how it can give you iMovie, iPhoto, iBooks Author and Garageband (These softwares are really important to me). Garageband may not be the best music producing software, yet I do know that it is simple and easy to use. Also I can get the MacBook cheaper if I buy it from my school. The teachers will get me the international keyboard (English/Normal keyboard) and install Microsoft Word and the other apps for free. I also think I can upgrade the specs on the MacBook if I want to. The cost (I live in Europe) of a normal MacBook is about 1500 Euros, yet through the school, I can get it under 1000 Euros. The HP will be have to bought in the U.S. and brought by my relatives. The cost is about 1150 Dollars for the PC. Yet even though the cost is great for the Mac, I really really value the fact that the HP has Beats Audio. That is what is stopping me. Also everyone at my school has a MacBook and I have the thought that it would be cool to be different. It is hard to choose...

Is the Sony 60nx720 led tv worth the extra price of other led televisions.

Answer
Compared to what other LED TV's? The NX720 has local dimming edge led, Gorilla glass and built in Wi-Fi with smart features.

Amazon has it for $2544, the comparable Samsung model is $2536. Is it worth $8 more...yes.

How often does Samsung change the prices of their TV's?

.

I was hoping to buy their ES6580 LED TV, but then the price of it went up by $200 over the weekend.

Answer
With the demand of TVs at the time, and they might try to compete with other TVs. The $200 raise might have been for Labor Day, or maybe it was after a sale that you missed.

Look online, you can usually find them for cheaper with decent shipping costs (Amazon, Newegg).

Would the LG 47lm4600 be a good buy?

I'm looking to upgrade my TV, and I want 3d just because it's an awesome feature. Is this a good TV? I really would only use 3d when I game on the ps3 so that's the big question. Would it be able to handle it, or would it blur? It seems like a good TV but being this would be my first 3d I figured I should ask.

Answer
The tech rating on this display are only good, shading to the weak side. You can do better. Lg's gaming performance is notoriously weak because of a very slow response time. Blur and lag seem to be the most common issues with every gamer I have talked to. In fact the people have told us that they switched out lg for samsung or panasonic plasma or led with at least 120 hz. But the real issue again is the faster response times. We've had people tell us that Lucky Goldstar is crap with a good marketing approach. In essence, serious gamers game on plasma.

Digital Tuner Question/Help?

mike

I just ordered this TV online: http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-47LM4600-led-tv?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=AskAndAnswer&utm_content=Default

It has a built in digital tuner. From what I understand, it can convert your cable into HD. If I'm right on that, will the quality of the digital tuner conversion be as good as a direct HDMI input from my cable?

Thanks.

Answer
If you plug the cable from the wall into your TV, you'll be able to receive Limited Basic cable service. The signal will be in HD, but you will be limited to pretty much local channels. None of your extended tier or premium channels will be available, as they require the set top box. The HD coming out of your wall will be no different that the HD coming out of the set top box. Because the Cable Company compresses the signal at their offices, both ways will be lower quality that what you can receive with an over-the-air antenna.

Need help on:
- LED vs LCD vs Plasma (and maybe 3D)
- Average prices for each

Cheers

Answer
Plasma TVs are MADE for gaming, sports, and action movies. They have true black colors, giving the overall picture a darker look than LCD and LEDs. They are not energy efficient, costing about $35 a year to run one. The have a glass screen, causing glare if there is a light source opposite of the TV. They are the least expensive TV to buy, and are great for many things. They have a 600hz refresh rate, giving smooth motion control in all programming (thus making it good for gaming and sports). The burn in issue is a problem of the past. They're equipped with an anti-image retention device, which will flush the gases to eliminate any still picture that would have been left in it.The weight of a 50" plasma is usually under 100 pounds. Plasma TVs start in 42" (price $400+) and go up from there. An average price of a good 50" 1080p plasma is $800.

LCD and LED TVs are identical in the way the colors are produced. The ONLY difference between the two is the light source. LCD uses fluorescent lighting, while LED uses LED lights on the edge or back of the screen. They will have brighter colors than a plasma, but they will not achieve true black colors. They have a matte (plastic) screen, eliminating some glare problems. They come in 60hz, 120hz, and 240hz. It's difficult to find TVs with 240hz, plus the naked eye typically cannot tell the difference. The lower refresh rate makes gaming and sports a little blurry at times. They are more energy efficient that plasma TVs. It will cost about $20 a year for an LCD and about $16 a year for an LED. The lifespan on LCD and LED TVs is about a year or two longer than a plasma. The weight of a 55" LED is around 70-80 pounds. The price for a 55" Samsung LED Smart TV typically runs about $1500. LEDs are the most expensive.

The programming you watch and the room you're putting it in are going to determine which type of TV that would suite your needs the best.
The energy consumption dollar amounts I gave are based on 50"-55" TVs, with smaller TVs being less expensive.

Only buy name brand TVs, or you'll suffer some serious quality issues. Only buy Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, or LG. The Sharp Quattron is also an excellent LED TV. For plasma, Panasonic is the top making, with Samsung following closely. Samsung and Sony make great LED and LCD TVs. LG makes pretty good TVs, but the other brands I named tend to have better pictures, in my opinion.

3D technology varies depending on brand. Most brands use an active 3D technology where the glasses lenses shutter back and forth. You can get a 3D Samsung 1080p plasma 51" for about $900. A 3D Samsung 55" LED is about $1600. LG uses a passive technology for 3D, allowing you to use the movie theatre glasses, unlike with the passive technology. Active 3D will allow for a full HD 1080p signal, while passive will not.

Suggest me buying LED tv 22" under 15K (280 USD) in India?

Today, I bought a brand new Insignia LED HD TV, but it did not come with a built in tuner. What do I need to receive free digital channels?

Answer
Actually your television has a built in HDTV tuner. All new television have a built in digital tuner. You do not need to purchase any digital converter box. All you need to do is to purchase a good indoor or outdoor HDTV antenna and plug it into the back of your television. Then go to your television setup menu and do a channel scan. This will scan all your local channels in your area that you can get for free. No monthly fees.

I'm not picking up CBS and ABC on my new Haier LED HDTV. Do I need a converter box or cable service?

Kenisha

I've moved the TV, antenna and rescanned the channels over a dozen times. I'm using an indoor RCA digital flat antenna. I've used the antenna with and without the amplifier.

Answer
ya, you need a converter box as of a couple years ago, cable.

Can adding a 70 inch TV to my currently duel display computer be harmful to the computer or the TV?

I am currently running 2 monitors off of a single NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460. We just got a 70 inch LED tv on blackfriday. I am thinking about connecting the TV to the computer with a HDMI cable. The card has 3 outputs. I dont have things plugged in yet, assuming it works, can running this set up damage my TV or computer? If I do so I will always keep them connected and work the TV off of the computer more than 50% of the time. My PSU is only 460w or so. I am just wondering if this will be too much for the Graphic card to handle, or ruin the new TV.

Thank you

Answer
HDMI specs are 5 volts at 50MiliAmps. No matter what size monitor/TV is connected. Your 70 inch TV will require just as much HDMI current as a 17 inch LCD panel. In other words, your card with three outputs can run three of any size monitors/TV without damage to any of them or itself.

How can i change the picture quality on my LED TV ?

Oscar

So i got a Sony DVD Player with an HDMI b and it said that it gave1080p qualilty. But when i put info on my tv , it said the pic. quality was 60p. How can i change it to 1080p. My tv is a 40" Samsung 3D LED TV with AllShare Play if that helps. Its a 2012 model.

Answer
All video travels to your television at 60 frames per second. This has nothing to do with the resolution of each frame.

Your problem is NOT your television. It is that you are feeding it 70 year old video.

Look - DVD's are a modern way to store the video standard from 1948. Some players will up-convert (really "Magnify" each frame - it cannot put in video details that were not stored in the original frames of video.

Take back your DVD player and get a BluRay player. It will also up-convert, but give you access to real 1080 material.

I am about to take the step to a flat HDTV. There is so much info out that it is confusing. For viewing from about 12 feet away, what size and type TV is best. I am interest in a good pix, high reliability and power economy? What to buy?

Answer
Hi Waryinve...!
I prefer LCD. If You want an ultra-thin TV â LCD TVs, especially LED-backlit
models, tend to be thinner than plasmas.
If You do a lot of daytime viewing in a room with windows lacking blinds,
curtains or drapes. An LCD's bright picture will be look better in bright light;
Get Samsung Lcd. It would be a best choiice.

Trying to use RCA DVD player for Samsung Smart TV surround?

Mike H

The goal is to use our 10 year old Pioneer DVD player (which acts as a tuner for attached surround sound) as the audio for our new Samsung Smart TV.

The DVD player only has RCA jacks on the back. The TV has HDMI (ARC) as well as digital audio out (optical).

After a week's worth of headaches about getting this set up, I THINK the goal is to buy an optical cable, an optical-to-RCA converter, and then attach it to the RCAs and from there to the DVD player.

I don't want to buy a new surround system (too expensive and have to re-wire through the floor), buy a new tuner (the new tuner would burn out the speakers because of the Ohm difference), or buy an HDMI-RCA converter (the DVD player is not ARC compatible since it is 10 years old). I DO NOT WANT to wire it through the cable box or blu-ray player since there are functions specific to the television, like Netflix and Youtube, that would need to be straight from TV to surround.

It took me a week to figure this all out, is there anything wrong with this plan? I don't actually want to use the DVD player for anything other than the sound. Thanks in advance!
Also, any recommendations on Optical to RCA converters for Smart TVs?
My television lets me shut off Dolby Digital so I think this may work? Thank you for your answer.

Answer
Actually, Grumpy is exactly wrong - the $20 - $25 Digital to Analog RCA converters DO work. They DON'T PROVIDE DISCRETE 5.1 CHANNEL SURROUND - that IS true. But on one of my TV/sound setups I have a NEW LED/LCD TV with, not Optical, but Coaxial S/PDIF (which IS 5.1 digital channels) connected to an older, analog-only 5.1 surround system that only has Red/White RCA AUX inputs (yes, 2.0 channels), with one of those $25 converters between, that handles either Optical or Coaxial, exactly like this one (I paid too much):

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Coaxial-Toslink-Converter/dp/B007S6U7I4

It may not be discrete 5.1 but it is simulated, and does quite a good job of it. I hear traffic passing behind me from one side to the other, birds chirping in a forest everywhere in specific spots, casings from guns dropping in specific places, etc... So anyone that tells you it won't work is wrong! I have proof in my 2nd setup! So get one of these with confidence! And don't listen to the legion of "advisers" who think it is their job to tell everyone their inferior setup won't work. They are only in it for the self-agrandizing points and thumbs up and votes from "buddies" who are more interested in gaming the system than actually helping people. Sorry to vent, but my patience with these designated naysayers is growing thin... Good luck!
EDIT: Grumpy is correct that these converters don't work with highly compressed audio formats like Dolby Digital or DTS - only uncompressed (which actually means higher quality) PCM - just switch your TV audio to PCM (Pulse Code Modulation - a digital format) which is then output to the Toslink port - you'll still get simulated surround - see here:

Dr. Oz is a celebudoc and a part-time quack who peddles questionable health information to the public for his own personal gain, his selfcentric need for the limelight, and his kooky dabbling in pseudoscience. A highly credentialed and lauded physcian/surgeon, Dr. Oz is the worst kind of information source because he promotes both good and bad information in equal measure making it all but impossible for his audience to separate the fact from the fiction and, thereby, leaving them to conclude that much of his quackery is in fact truth. The painful results has been hordes of people spending their hard earned money on hopeless remedies and tonics such as acai berries, respberry ketones, green tea, and African mango extracts.

Question about raspberry ketones?

Melissa

ive been taking one 250 tablet each day and it doesnt seem to be working. i seem to be eating a while lot more tho....is that how it works? because i thought it was supposed to minimize hunger. and when will it start working??

thanks, melissa

Answer
It's a scam. It doesn't work.

RK is has not been proven in any scientific studies to be efficacious in humans. The active ingredient, 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one, is not known to have the effect Dr. Oz stated and the side effects of RK on humans when taken orally as a supplement are not established or well understood. Hence, people with fat issues, should do as the best minds in nutrition and health on the planet, the US National Institute of Health, have been recommending for decades and avoid all supplements unless recommended by a health care professional.

When it is proven that 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one is efficacious and safe for humans, you will see Big Pharma producing it in a prescription-only oral form and, of course, that will be followed by national advertising in mass media...something you don't see now because scammers can't afford serious ad campaigns and are stuck with the cheap "reach" of the internet. There's considerable profit to be made. In the mean time, the best option for the average person with fat issues is proper eating, plain & simple. Just as with acai, the buying public will eventually learn RK is no panacea for fat problems, the mania will subside, and we'll be waiting for the next big fat loss supplement that doesn't work to come along.

Dr. Oz is the worst kind of information source because he promotes both good and bad information in equal measure making it all but impossible for his audience to separate the fact from the fiction and, thereby, leaving them to conclude that much of his quackery is in fact truth. Answer
Funny you should ask.

From Todays Fairbanks News Paper:

Russian scholar predicts U.S. collapse, Alaska return to Russian control
Mike Eckel/The Associated Press

Published Wednesday, March 4, 2009

MOSCOW - If you're inclined to believe Igor Panarin, and the Kremlin wouldn't mind if you did, then President Barack Obama will order martial law this year, the U.S. will split into six rump-states before 2011, and Russia and China will become the backbones of a new world order.

Panarin might be easy to ignore but for the fact that he is a dean at the Foreign Ministry's school for future diplomats and a regular on Russia's state-guided TV channels. And his predictions fit into the anti-American story line of the Kremlin leadership.

"There is a high probability that the collapse of the United States will occur by 2010," Panarin told dozens of students, professors and diplomats Tuesday at the Diplomatic Academy - a lecture the ministry pointedly invited The Associated Press and other foreign media to attend.

The prediction from Panarin, a former spokesman for Russia's Federal Space Agency and reportedly an ex-KGB analyst, meshes with the negative view of the U.S. that has been flowing from the Kremlin in recent years, in particular from Vladimir Putin.

Putin, the former president who is now prime minister, has likened the United States to Nazi Germany's Third Reich and blames Washington for the global financial crisis that has pounded the Russian economy.

Panarin didn't give many specifics on what underlies his analysis, mostly citing newspapers, magazines and other open sources.

He also noted he had been predicting the demise of the world's wealthiest country for more than a decade now.

But he said the recent economic turmoil in the U.S. and other "social and cultural phenomena" led him to nail down a specific timeframe for "The End" - when the United States will break up into six autonomous regions and Alaska will revert to Russian control.

Panarin argued that Americans are in moral decline, saying their great psychological stress is evident from school shootings, the size of the prison population and the number of gay men.

Turning to economic woes, he cited the slide in major stock indexes, the decline in U.S. gross domestic product and Washington's bailout of banking giant Citigroup as evidence that American dominance of global markets has collapsed.

"I was there recently and things are far from good," he said. "What's happened is the collapse of the American dream."

Panarin insisted he didn't wish for a U.S. collapse, but he predicted Russia and China would emerge from the economic turmoil stronger and said the two nations should work together, even to create a new currency to replace the U.S. dollar.

Asked for comment on how the Foreign Ministry views Panarin's theories, a spokesman said all questions had to be submitted in writing and no answers were likely before Wednesday.

It wasn't clear how persuasive the 20-minute lecture was. One instructor asked Panarin whether his predictions more accurately describe Russia, which is undergoing its worst economic crisis in a decade as well as a demographic collapse that has led some scholars to predict the country's demise.

Panarin dismissed that idea: "The collapse of Russia will not occur."

But Alexei Malashenko, a scholar-in-residence at the Carnegie Moscow Center who did not attend the lecture, sided with the skeptical instructor, saying Russia is the country that is on the verge of disintegration.

"I can't imagine at all how the United States could ever fall apart," Malashenko told the AP.

Do 3-D LED tv's have just as good of picture resolution as regular LED tvs?

I am looking to buy a 3d tv, specifically Samsung, and i was wondering if i didn't want to watch in 3-d, could i still watch tv in high resolution? and would the resolution be just as good as a regular LED tv? I wan't to make sure that the 3-d doesn't take away anything from the picture resolution . thanks for the help.

What are the best equiliser settings to get the best sound from my tv.?

best led tv full hd
 on ... Samsung 46
best led tv full hd image
Q. I have just bought a SANDSTROM S46LDIB10 46" Full HD LED TV and am not really happy with the sound. in the settings part it has a number of settins which are..120HZ..500HZ..1.5KHZ..5KHZ..10KHZ ranging from plus 10 to minus 10, has anyone else got the same problem and no the best way to set them?

Answer
Audio is often compromised on sets like that because there's no place on the front to put decent size speakers. They're either extremely tiny at the bottom of the front, pointing down on the bottom of the case, or a little larger but on the back panel pointing to the wall. None of that is good for quality sound.

Since all TV's are different, you won't know your best equalizer settings without experimenting with them. Start with all 5 controls at the center and listen to the sound. Then, start with 120 hz, raise it a little and test again. Proceed in that manner with the other controls until the sound is as good you can make it.

My guess would be a strong advance at 120 hz, about half that at 500 hz, and neutral on the rest. But that's only a guess--try it yourself and see.

How can i get the best possible picture on my TV?

mad man

i have the new samsung 46 inch full hd 1080p lcd led tv with a 1000w samsung 5.1 surround sound also full hd the dvd player. I have them connected through hdmi and i would really like to know 2 things 1. how can i get the best possible picture through dvd. and 2. my surround sound only works with dvds how can i connect it to work with the cable tv aswell

Answer
To get the best possible picture first is to make sure you have all your gear hooked up with the best cables possible. Then is to have your TV professionally calibrated by a certified ISF technician. They have very expensive test gear and can get into hidden menus that only service technicians are able to get into. They also calibrate each input for the source being used. Its reasonably expensive to have done but when you think how long you have TV's and how often you view it its really not that bad.

There are other stores that offer similar calibrations I would strongly suggest against it, only go with true ISF certified technicians. You can find one on their web site.

The cheaper option is to buy their video essentials calibration disc which is very informative and will help you get reasonably close with a little patience and practice.

Good luck

Since Smart Tv with 3D sea to be the latest, should I definitely go for 1 with this ? And is LED the best choice ? Someone is selling a mint LG 55 inch 3D LED TV WITH 5 PAIRS OF 3D GLASSES TV WAS BARELY USED ADULT OWNED for $900 . Think this is a good deal ? Thanks in Advance !

Answer
Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You are not going to find any LG brand tv being recommended. The lack of software for the 3D technology is limited. At this time there are only around 180 titles available in 3D and they are mainly animated movies from disney. I would not recommend buying a used tv. Panasonic is the most reliable tv in the market today. If you read yahoo questions all the time you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Forget 3D and get a smart tv, you can purchase a brand new one for the same price and with a factory warranty for a year. If you purchase one at Costco you will get one more year of warranty and have 90 days to return it. Hope this will help you out.

What is the best Plasma to buy in my price range?

I recently bought a Sharp Aquos 52 inch LED backlit LC52LE700UN. I returned it because the motion blurring was too much for me to enjoy video games on. I've since decided to use the money to buy a plasma. Could anyone reccommend something in the 1500-2000 range with a comparable picture without the blurring problem?
50+ inches would be preffered.

Answer
Panasonic is the best brand when it comes to Plasma. The G10 or 15 (2009) or the G20 oe 25 for 2010. It is a THX (higher standard quality for videos) certified tv 50". You can actually get an S model
65" for under $2,000 at Costco. They also offer you a 90 day return policy and one extra year of factory warranty. Best Buy with a Magnolia department will have the higher end Panasonic Plasma tvs. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on Panasonic tvs. Hope this will help you out.

The ant in one looks like one I have in my apartment wall. Do I need that converter box? I thought that was for only older tvs. Do I need an antenna or a cable cord? Please help, I want to watch my local channels.

Answer
The wall outlet is for a paid cable service that you don't have. You *may* be able to get your local channels with a very good indoor antenna, but understand that indoor antennas don't work well (or at all) for many people. It depends on how far away you are from the TV transmitting towers and what's between you and them.

There are a lot of junky indoor antennas for sale that will mostly take your money and do little else. If (and only if) your location is suitable for an indoor antenna, the one to consider is the one in the first link below. If I had to use an indoor antenna, it's the only one I'd buy. It's not the cheapest you can find, but you definitely get what you pay for.

If you want a better prediction on what channels you should be able to get, edit your question with your Zip code (if you're in the U.S.). Or, you can do the research yourself at the 2nd link below.

how can i take led tv to india from usa?

Q. I bought 55 inches LED TV recently. I would like to take it to India with me(planning to travel to india). Please suggest me the best way to carry it. Is it better to ship or will airlines allow me to carry this tv with me instead of one bag? How much does they charge in airlines and how much does they take if I ship? Answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
A bigger problem is the incompatibility of your set with the TV broadcast system in India. India uses the PAL system. North America uses the ATSC/NTSC system. Your TV won't receive local channels in India.

Also, the voltage mains there are 240v/50 hz. Your TV *might* be optionable for that voltage and line frequency--check your owner's guide. But as equipped for the U.S. market, it's set up for 110v/60 hz.

You might be better off returning your set for a refund if possible, and buying one locally in India. That also saves you the hassle and cost of transport, customs, etc.

I recently purchased a large 55 inch LED tv and while I'm quite happy with my purchase I am unhappy how there seems to be a delay when I'm ADS in COD while moving my joystick? Is anybksy else having these issues?

Answer
It's usually not due to the size of the TV but, more likely, the resolution and the resultant processing that takes place.

Try a couple of things...

- Most TVs now come with a "game mode". See if yours has one and if it does, enable it. This will reduce image processing and also optomize the settings for gaming.

- Make sure that your display resolution setting on the TV and the Xbox 360 match exactly. If your Xbox is set to 720p then set your TV to 720p. A lot of times, setting them to the native resolution of the TV works best. Yours may be either 720p or 1080p native. Having one set to 720p and the other set to 1080p will create lag because of video upscaling or downscaling.

I have been watching curling this year on tv @ the torino winter olympics. Seems to be an interesting game...but when watched it, i didn't understand how they got the points...I know there's a circular place called "the house" in the game, but dont understand what the goal of the game is.
Could someone please explain to me?

Answer
Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which they slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones that a team has closer to the center of the target than the closest of the other team's stones. The level of precision and complex nature of the strategic thinking required to win has led curling to be referred to as "chess on ice."

Curling is played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice into which two round, painted, archery-like targets (called the house) have been embedded. The game involves two teams of four players. These teams are called rinks and named for the teamâs captain, who is known as the âskipâ. Each team has eight polished granite stones, called stones or rocks, with which they try to score.

During each round of play, called an end, each player slides two stones along the surface of the ice. Play alternates between teams, each throwing one stone on their turn. The person throwing the stone influences where the stone stops by the amount of force used, called the weight, the spin (turn), and the direction of the throw. Additionally, the final position of the stone is changed by sweeping or brushing the path in front of the stone to reduce curl and increase distance. Once all the stones have been thrown during an end, the score is determined and the play reverses direction back to the other house.

The players are known as the lead, second, third and skip, and traditionally throw stones in that order . The skip acts as the teamâs captain, determining the position played by each player, strategy during the game, holding the broom in the house as a target for the shooters, and representing the rink. However, there is nothing in the rules to say where in the order the skip plays and in recent years the skip has thrown second or third stones on some teams.

The basic goal of each end is to have your curling stones nearer to the center of the target once all the stones from both teams have been thrown for that end. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can earn per end is eight, though this is extremely rare because only the closest stones belonging to one of the two teams are counted. Strategies used during play, such as blocking (guard) and hitting rocks to reposition them (bump) or remove them from play (take-out) lead to lower scores. The term draw is used to describe a shot that comes to rest in the house without making contact with another stone. To peel means to remove both the target stone and the shooter's stone from play. For more information, see Types of shots below.

To help ensure the stone lands where intended, the skip stands in the house and indicates to the player throwing where to aim given the desired effect of the shot. The other two players sweep in front of the rock. Once thrown, players may not touch a stone while it is moving, so sweeping is the only way to influence the stone once thrown. Games, called matches, usually last eight ends, though in competitive curling there are usually ten ends and some recreational games last six ends.

A competitive game usually consists of ten ends. Recreational games are more commonly only eight or even six ends. An end consists of each player from both teams throwing two rocks with the players on each side alternating shots, for a total of sixteen rocks. If the teams are tied at the completion of ten ends an extra end is played to break the tie. If the match is still tied after the extra end, play continues for as many ends as may be required to break the tie. The winner is the team with the highest score after all ends have been completed.

It is not uncommon at any level for a losing team to terminate the match before all ends are completed if it believes it no longer has a realistic chance of winning. Most competitive tournaments require eight ends to be completed before allowing a losing team to concede in this manner. Competitive games will usually end once the losing team is "run out of rocks" - that is, once it has fewer stones in play and/or available for play than the number of points needed to tie the game in the final end.

In international competition each side is given 73 minutes to complete all of their throws. Each team is also allowed two 60 second timeouts per ten end game. If extra ends are required each team is allowed 10 minutes of playing time to complete their throws during the extra end. One added 60 second timeout is allowed in each extra end.

After both teams have delivered eight rocks, the team with the rock closest to the button is awarded one point for each of its own rocks that is closer than the opponent's closest rock. Rocks that are not in the house (further from the center than the outer edge of the 12-foot ring) do not score even if no opponent's rock is closer. A rock is considered in the house if any portion of its edge is over any portion of the 12-foot ring. Since the bottom of the rock is rounded, a rock just barely in the house will not have any actual contact with the ring, which will pass under the rounded edge of the stone, but it still counts.

The score is marked on a scoreboard, of which there are two types. One is the baseball type scoreboard, which is usually used for televised games. On this scoreboard the ends are marked by columns 1 through 10 (or 11 for the possibility of an extra end to break ties) plus an additional column for the total. Below this are two rows â one for each team. The number of points each team gets in an end is marked this way.

The other form of scoreboard is the one used in most curling clubs (see photo). It is set up in the same way, except the numbered row indicates points, not ends, and it can be found between the rows for the team. The numbers placed are indicative of the end. If the red team scores 3 points in the first end (called a three-ender), then a one (indicating the first end) is placed beside the number three in the red row. If they score two more in the second end, then a two will be placed beside the five in the red row indicating that the red team has five points in total (3+2). This scoreboard works because only one team can get points in an end. However, some confusion can exist if no team gets points in an end. This is called a blank end and the end number usually goes in the furthest column on the right in the row of the team who has the hammer (last rock advantage).

What LED TV brand is the best right now?

Can I know full details? Like a consumer report...

As to why you think it is the best at the moment?

THANK YOU!

Answer
Hi skyin, LG WRman Greg here,

Each brand has their own strengths and weaknesses so it would be pointless to argue which one is the best as you don't specify your criteria. However, I will give some reasons why I think LG has some of the best models for LED TVs at the moment and let you decide for yourself. The LED TV from LG, particularly the LM-series, has the advanced IPS LED Plus panel that can deliver realistic and vibrant colors and contrast. The Local Dimming capability of the LG LED TV also creates greater contrast and range of colors. The built-in TruMotion feature of these TVs help to reduce any potential juddering images to create a smooth viewing experience in even the most action-packed sequences in games, movies or sport programs. And the Local Dimming function and the Picture Wizard functions will give you control of the picture quality so you can adjust the color and contrast in the TV to best suit you and your home environment. And if you are talking about 3D LED TV, the LM-series also boast some of the greatest features for 3D TV such as 3D Depth Control, 3D Sound Zooming and 2D to 3D Conversion. Together with these, there are many more innovations coming from LG in the year 2013 regarding LED TV.

LG WRman Greg out!
