Answer
Al Qaeda has declared a global jihad, not just on America. They're active on other continents and have perpetuated attacks or have trained and sponsored others to do the attacks. Their goal is to get an Islamic Caliphate, Islamic control, globally. They also terrorize other moderately led Islamic nations to wrestle control from them so they can institute their own brand of Islamic ideology.

Al Qaeda is an offshoot of the: Muslim Brotherhood--->Maktab al-Khidamat--->Al Qaeda. The Muslim Brotherhood, like Al Qaeda, has operatives in other nations. It is quite common for the Islamic groups to split.

They feed off each other like piranhas in a feeding frenzy. Some go for the political struggle while others go for mainly militant terror tactics. In the end, they all still support each other.

I'm not aware of Al Qaeda operatives within the US, but I am aware of Muslim Brotherhood within America, with other "political allies" striving for jihad and the overthrow of Western US government.

"The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny."

Islamic Circle of North America: "The main objective for ILF is enriching the lives of Muslims in general and Muslim Youth in particular by educating their minds and affecting their hearts with sound knowledge of Islamic Shariah thus deepening their awareness of Islam as a universal and eternal way of living for mankind and providing a new caliber of Muslim leaders." http://www.icna.com/education/

Edit: Yes they want to kill Canadians too. No continent or country has been immune from Islamic terrorism. Canada also has a large immigrant population, of homegrowns, that can vote to overthrow the status quo, or otherwise terrorize from within. Here are a couple links/quotes showing global issues.

The Escalation of the Conflict During Ahmadinejad's Presidency
With Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's rise to power in 2005, the conflict reemerged, with greater intensity. Ahmadinejad reverted to Iran's previous policy of anti-Saudi hegemony, by pushing the export of the revolution, and promoting a messianic Shi'ite vision that stresses the imminent appearance of the Mahdi and the reestablishment of the great Persian Empire. In his second television appearance following his election, he said: "The message of the [Islamic] Revolution is global, and not restricted to a specific time or place. It is a human message, and it will move forward. Have no doubt... Allah willing, Islam will conquer. Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountaintops of the world." --Memri.org

Why did communism in the Soviet Union collapse in the late 1980s?

Hannah

*Political factors: What did leaders in the Soviet Union, the United States, and Europe do to further the fall of communism?
*
Military factors: What effect did military policies and actions in the United States and in the Soviet Union have?

*Economic factors: What effect did the economic situation in the Soviet Union have?

*Social/cultural factors: What was the attitude of the people of the Soviet bloc countries? What impact did glasnost have? What was the impact of dissidents?

Please try to make it as short as you can! Thank You!

Answer
The problems were economic, social and political.

Economic:
The economy had been stagnating throughout the 1970s, as Western economies moved into new technologies, the Soviets economy was based on Karl Marx's analysis of the British economy in the mid 19th Century. The Soviets focused on heavy industry - coal, iron and steel production, to the detriment of consumer goods. Soviet made consumer goods were rare, expensive and very poorly made. Soviet agriculture was always inefficient, and these inefficiencies meant that the Soviets had to import grain from the US & Canada several times in the 1970s - hitting their export / import balance sheet.

Social:
The Soviet Union faced two huge problems in the 1970s & 1980s.
1) The rise of Samizdat literature and dissident activity. Many writers began to "self-publish", using new, cheap, office photocopiers and mimeographs. On their own this was not to much of a problem, but as these works were circulated, so the idea that there were alternatives to the Soviet way began to make ground across the USSR.
2) Jewish refuseniks. Jews were, and are, allowed to move to Israel. The USSR refused exit visa to thousands of Jews who wanted to leave - this led to embarrassingly long queues at Israeli missions - these were shown on Soviet TV. The problem was "why would anyone want to leave the "workers' paradise"?". Once people began to question why the Jews wanted to leave, then they too began to question what alternatives to the Soviet way there might be. This led to a rise in nationalist sentiment in many of the Soviet Republics.

Political:
Brezhnev, and his co-ruler Kosygin, thought that all Khrushchev achieved was chaos, they wanted to stabilise the country and to reverse nearly all the reforms of Khrushchev. Probably the worst thing, for the Soviet Union, that they did was the policy of "stability of cadres". This policy was a response to Khrushchev's policy of moving bureaucrats around and promoting and demoting people. It had the effect of creating an ageing political class, who sought only to maintain their position. By the late 1970s the country was a gerontocracy - a country ruled by the elderly.
This exasperated the conservative communist government's hostility towards the youth, which, in turn, meant that when the regime was tottering they could not rely on the idealism of the young.

My home theater system is about 10 years old and its time to move on. I have the blu-ray and a nice big LED tv but now I need a great surround sound to finish off the ensemble. What is the best system for movies and sports that is still under about a grand? Thanks!

Answer
Check out ehow.com to reliably answer additional questions. I love your question I get to spend someone's money. Smile.
I will tell you this. You want to make sure you have really good peak power. For instance a 10w amp with a peak power of 60w is not going to give enough head room for sudden explosions, jet fighters flying by then fading away in the distance, the same for race cars. Your power source will have a constant and peak power pay attention to those two sets of numbers. Another expectation is really good bass response for convincing background nuances. Personally I hate muffled highs make sure you don't have roll off on the high end. The mids is the range for the human voice, as you know its all important but you have to know for $1000 their will be compromises. The question is to what extent and where.

My thinking is to make a commitment to have as your anchor a really good amplifier. A really good brand amp can cover a host of weaknesses. Top on my list is Russound, Emotiva and NAD because their commitment for quality parts and circuit boards. NAD uses a toridial device to power its amps which may sound like greek to pronounce but its a delight to listen to. You can do well to get an even better product off of ebay or refurbished with your budget instead of brand new this can save you 10-15% for the type of performance you want.

Personally I am not a big fan of surround sound. When you go to the movies the speakers are in front with a big screen. One could argue two speakers and a sub can get it done. If you can get a full spectrum speaker which has a built in subwoofer JBL has distinguished itself in movie audio on the high end stuff. Many movie theaters use JBL which is a good base line of what is possible and from what brand. A good amp and a pair of full spectrum speakers can be a good spend for upgrading your sound system.

Another option is to purchase a pair of Satellite speakers check out Energy veritas speakers or the CB5 series again get them used or refurbished, then purchase a killer subwoofer like HSU or Velodyne. This type of combination is worthy of your consideration over the mulitple wires and speakers of a surround sound.

Sigh. Thanks for the great question. Smile.

Best.

How can I hook up an N64 to a composite-less LED TV?

Ponce

I've got a 32 inch Dynex LED TV with some pretty limited input options. It has 2 HDMI inputs, one component input, cable TV, and a VGA. I've got my Xbox 360 hooked up through the component, and I'm also using the cable TV. Is there any cheap conversion I can do to convert the N64's composite output?

I'm looking for options under $20......

Answer
For a $20 budget, you would probably be better off just getting a coax switch and switch between the cable and the N64.

I am doing a History Day report on Bill Cosby, and to learn more about how people love him for what he does. If possible, please add any additional information about Bill Cosby's life and legacy. Thank you to anyone who helps!

Answer
His first big role in I Spy was a character that could have been just as easily played by a white man, I mean to say it was not a servant or other role that was commonly played by blacks so he was probably the first regular guy black character on TV and he was very good and likable in the role (he was the first black to win an emmy I think) which then led to his own series, one of the first for an african american. After he had established himself in the entertainment he went back earned a graduate degree in education and produced the animated Fat Albert cartoon series that portrayed poor black kids in way that could be viewed as educational entertainment by both black and white kids. His Cosby series in the 80's showed more upscale successful blacks again groundbreaking although I personally felt the series became unfunny and self-indulgent after the first couple of seasons. Finally he has recently become critical of hip hop culture and the role models that black youth now follow.

Overall Bill Cosby has always been a positive influence on the image of black society, presenting an intelligent, likable humorous image without a trace of of the Uncle Tom subservience that prior generations of black talent was forced to display in order to get into the mainstream

How did geography affect the development of asian cultures?

How did the geography of China, Japan, and Korea influence the development of each culture?

This isn't in my history book, but we have to do this in a unit review packet. Thanks for the help!

Answer
Over the last millenium or so Korea has been harassed and invaded by its larger, more aggressive neighbors numerous times - the Chinese, the Mongols, the Jurchens(Manchus), and especially the Japanese. The Koreans have an expression which is telling: "A shrimp caught between whales".

After the devastating double invasion by Japan near the end of the 16th century Korea never quite recovered from the loss until modern times, whereas Japan profited not only from the material plunder but also from the skills and civilizing influence of craftsmen and scholars captured and taken to Japan. There is in the outskirts of Kyoto, Japan, a monument known as Mimizuka ("Ear Mound"), which is literally the tomb of some 38,000 noses and ears cut from dead Koreans as war trophies.

As a result of this horrible experience the Korean court closed the country off from the outside world (hence the nickname "The Hermit Kingdom") until forced to open up late in the 19th century. By then Japan had already opened up to Western civilization and was rapidly becoming a military power to reckon with, which led to Japan taking over Korea once again early in the 20th century, this time annexing it officially as a colony of Japan.

Life in Korea under Japanese colonial rule was brutal and exploitative. For example, Koreans were forbidden to speak their own language and had to change their names to Japanese ones. Many cultural treasures were destroyed or stolen not only for their value but in a systematic attempt to erase Korean history and identity altogether, to try to turn Koreans into second-class Japanese. Would you believe buildings were moved(!) in order to ruin the good feng sui in Korea's capital? Sounds incredible, but it happened.

Many Koreans were relocated to Japan, Central Asia and Siberia, either by force or through deceptive recruitment, to help with Japan's war effort in the 1940's, then simply abandoned there when Japan surrendered. There are many ethnic Koreans living in those areas today, descendants of those unfortunates. There is also the problem of the 'Comfort Women', women of Korean and other Asian countries (and also some Dutch women captured in Indonesia) who were forced to work as sex slaves to Japanese soldiers. The whitewashing of history and reluctance on the part of the Japanese government to confront this particular chapter of Japan's imperial history has been a source of ongoing tension between Japan and its neighbors.

Today though, there are many healthy signs of progress. Young people in both South Korea and Japan are becoming aware of each other as people, not just historical abstractions. They are visiting each other's countries in record numbers. Korean TV shows and pop stars are becoming popular in Japan, and Japanese comics and animation are all the rage in South Korea. The respective governments have done much good work in order to cement economic and cultural ties between the two nations which are, after all, next-door neighbors with many physical and cultural similarities, and have always had close dealings throughout history. There is even talk of constructing an undersea tunnel connecting the two countries. Whether or not that actually comes to pass, it is surely a sign of more to come.

What is the difference between lcd and led?

led tv local dimming

led tv local dimming image

jober939

I'm looking for a tv around 32 in. that is relatively cheap.

Answer
Both have a liquid crystal display screen. The only major difference between the two is that older or less expensive sets use a fluorescent lamp for the backlight, while an "LED" set uses a bank of light emitting diodes.

The LED backlighting uses less electrical power than the fluorescent lamp. There are two versions, "edge" lighting and "full matrix." Edge-lit sets can be very thin. Full matrix sets allow for "local dimming," which can bring improved contrast in specific areas of the screen.

New for 2011: some of the latest model edge-lit sets also provide for a certain degree of local dimming.

However, don't look for a *major* difference in picture quality. The HD picture on an "LED" set will be difficult to distinguish from a very good conventional LCD set.

Amazon has it for $2544, the comparable Samsung model is $2536. Is it worth $8 more...yes.

I have connected my sky+ box to it using the scart lead. When i sit further away from the tv the picture looks better but it is not great closer up. How do i get the crystal clear picture that you expect with a tv like this? I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

Answer
I don't live in EU so don't have hands on experience with SCART. But to my understanding SCART is a Standard Definition connection only. It can't do HD. You need to use HDMI or Component in order to actually feed your TV HD.

Plus you also need an HD box from Sky. Depending on how old yours is, it might be one that only does SD from it. You want to get that upgrade to an HD capable box.

If you are sending SD to your HDTV, you're going to encounter some visual defects. And just like you describe, they will seem less noticeable if you're far away and more noticeable if you're closer to the screen. But either way they will be there.

The reason is that SD (PAL) is a aspect ratio of 5:4 and a resolution of 720x576. But HD is an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1920x1080 (in your case as you bought a 1080p TV). So there is a discrepancy on 2 fronts.

As a result your TV has to up-scale the source feed (the resolution) for sure. There's no way around that one. So that will add some quality loss. Then it has to deal with the aspect ratio problem. It can either stretch the image horizontally (breaks the aspect ratio, but doesn't add to much more degrading of the image), or it can zoom the image (maintains the aspect ratio so people aren't stretch, but further softens the image). This is just the nature of watching SD content on an HDTV. You will get used to it, everyone does.

The best way to get crystal clear images on your new HDTV is to subscribe to HD broadcast programming and to get a BluRay player for HD movie viewing. Anything that is still PAL (SD) is only going to look so good.

Some of the posts are a bit old, but it does kind of talk about this a bit here on this forum link, http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=744548

My sony 3d led tv's got a long line of burn in on the left side, I tried to clean it with led screen cleaning solution but no luck. Is there any way that I can fix this?, thanks

Answer
What you have is dead pixel and not burn in. I have never had any luck buying any Sony products at all. I purchase a 32" CRT tv in the 90's and that only lasted less than 3 years, then the first HDTV in the market a 34" HDTV from Sony. That also did not last more than 3 years. 2 DVD players when they first came out model 7000 and 7700 both at over $1,100 each and that also did not last over 3 years. They do not have a very good customer service support, they will just refer you to an authorized repair shop. If you read yahoo questions, you can read many problems from other customer with Sony product problems. My first Plasma tv from Pioneer purchased in 2002 is still running. Also have 4 other Panasonic Plasma tv and no problems. First generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic which is now over 4 years old and played over 300 blu ray disc movies without any problems. You may try calling or email Sony and see what they say. Hope this will help you out.

What's the difference between LED backlight LCD monitor and LCD monitors?

Zhir Makwa

are LED backlight monitors same as LED TV's and stuff,(is there a difference between LED backlight and LED)?
are LED backlight LCD monitors better than normal LCD's? which one shows a better picture?
Thanks!

Answer
An LED monitor (just like a LED TV) is a LCD that uses Light Emitting Diodes instead of fluorescent light bulbs for back lighting. LED uses less power and will provide a sharper, brighter, crisper picture longer than fluorescent will because a fluorescent bulb will dim over time (and occasionally start to develop an annoying flicker prior to failure) In addition LED's do not contain Mercury like a fluorescent bulb does so along with using less power, they are considered "greener" or more environmentally friendly.

the gadget show did this test a while back and found that there is no visible difference between a £100 cable and a £20 cable. as long as you buy a branded cable which is relatively cheap you will find your picture quality will be as it was intended :D dont buy a 99p one of ebay. also be careful to treat the cable with care (do not crease the cable).

Answer
To me, both are equally famous all around the world. Let's look at the facts of both icons :-

* David Beckham - Beckham's fame extends beyond the pitch; in much of the world his name is "as instantly recognizable as that of multinational companies like Coca-Cola and IBM." Beckham's relationship and marriage to Victoria, who has been famous in her own right as part of the musical group Spice Girls, contributed to David's celebrity beyond football.

David became known as a fashion-plate, and together with Victoria, the couple became lucrative spokespeople sought after by clothing designers, health and fitness specialists, fashion magazines, perfume and cosmetics manufacturers, hair stylists, exercise promoters, and spa and recreation companies. One recent example is a new line of aftershave and fragrances called David Beckham Instinct. In 2007, the Beckhams reportedly were paid $13.7 million to launch this fragrance line in the US. In the world of fashion, David has already appeared on the covers of countless magazines. In 2007, U.S. covers have included the men's magazine Details, and with his wife for the August 2007 issue of W.

According to Google, "David Beckham" was searched for more than any other sports topic on their site in 2003 and 2004.

Upon their arrival in Los Angeles on 12 July 2007, the night before David's formal introduction, the LAX airport was packed with paparazzi and news reporters. On the next night, Victoria appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to talk about the their move to L.A., and presented Leno with a number 23 Galaxy jersey with his own name on the back. Victoria also talked about her NBC TV show "Victoria Beckham: Coming To America."

On 22 July, a huge private welcoming party was planned for the couple at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. A-List celebrities expected included Steven Spielberg, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Oprah Winfrey.

* Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series have been the recipients of a host of awards since the initial publication of Philosopher's Stone including four Whitaker Platinum Book Awards (all of which were awarded in 2001), three Nestlé Smarties Book Prizes (1997-1999), two Scottish Arts Council Book Awards (1999 and 2001), the inaugural Whitbread children's book of the year award, (1999), the WHSmith book of the year (2006), among others. In 2000 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was nominated for Best Novel in the Hugo Awards while in 2001 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire won said award. Honours include a commendation for the Carnegie Medal (1997), a shortlisting for the Guardian Children's Award (1998), and numerous listings on the notable books, editors' Choices, and best books lists of the American Library Association, New York Times, Chicago Public Library, and Publishers Weekly.

The popularity of the Harry Potter series has translated into substantial financial success for Rowling, her publishers, and other Harry Potter related license holders. The books have sold over 325 million copies worldwide and have also given rise to the popular film adaptations produced by Warner Bros., all of which have been successful in their own right with the first, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, ranking number four on the list of all-time highest grossing films and the other four Harry Potter films each ranking in the top 20. The films have in turn spawned five video games and have in conjunction with them led to the licensing of over 400 additional Harry Potter products (including an iPod) that have, as of July 2005, made the Harry Potter brand worth an estimated 4 billion US dollars and J.K. Rowling a US dollar billionaire, making her, by some reports, richer than Queen Elizabeth II.

On 2007, 12 April, Barnes & Noble declared that Deathly Hallows has broken its preorder record, with over 500,000 copies preordered through its site.

We can't compare in this manner as one is a footballing icon and superstar, whereas Harry Potter is a fictitious character in story books. If you ask me, I would rather not choose any of them as this comparation doesn't click at all.

Cheers :)

Are Vizio TVs really that bad?

Man in the

I'm sure this question is asked a lot here. I've seen more than a few negative reviews about the brand in general. I'm looking to buy my first flat screen TV and came across the Vizio XVT series in my research. It has high reviews on amazon and also has an editors choice award on cnet but it is a Vizio. I am thinking either a 37" or 42" LED TV with internet connectivity for Netflix eventually. Also is refresh rate a big deal.... 60Hz vs 120Hz??

Answer
Vizio is really not that bad but not that good also. is well balance for the prices you paid for.
Vizio is really good in prices. other than prices if you compare to International brand - Samsung / LG / Sony / Sharp / Panasonic / Toshiba SAME RANGE models ( entry level / mid / high end models ) , still a " gap " in total quality and reliability. because Vizio as an USA local brand not manufactures. or designs any Vizio TV. all Vizio is supply by Taiwan Amtrans Electronics , TV designs / made by China Amtrans also out source TV maker. Vozio brand is main for USA / CANADA , small quantity sold under Vozio brand in Taiwan. is totally difference with International brand - Samsung / LG / Sony / Sharp / Panasonic / Toshiba , there manufactures TV and other electronics items by own from end to end , sold under own trademark worldwide more than 190 countries since 40 years ago.
if Vizio really " so great and so cheap " , why cant out of USA ? think about it !
********
due to response time , all LCD / LED TV with motion blur , such blur noticeable from fast action sports moving image make very uncomfortable to our eye. to cover - hide away the motion blur need fast refresh rate . standard 60 HZ is bad for motion blur. 120 HZ is to cover it !
keep in mind . 120 HZ refresh rate better work with fast response time display panel. the best is 4/5 ms g to g standard . some brand because of lower prices, even 120 HZ models select 6ms / 7ms g to g standard response time panel. ( Vizio is one of the brand ) .
response time is important too. the best for LED TV should be 2ms 120 HZ / 4ms ( 120 HZ for LCD TV ).
if 120 HZ models with 6ms/7ms response time. unable to cover the motion blur well , TV maker just " make use " 120 HZ " as selling point to confuse those consumer do not very clear about technically .
if you watch sports movies / soccer / game you need 120 HZ with 2ms / 4ms response time.
other than fast action image. standard 60 HZ not an problems at all. many consumer enjoy standard entry level 60HZ - 7ms/8ms response time models from day 1 . simply you requirement .

How to connect HD TV/Set top box and home theater?

led tv uk

Sridhar

I have below 3 components

1. LG LED LS34 series TV (HD)
2. Reliance HD set top box
3. Philips DSP 30U (got free on purchase of TV and a non HD and very old model)

Only one HD port slot in TV. So I am using that for HD TV and & HD Set top box connection.
Now How to connection the home theater in such a way that I can watch DVD as well as Set Top channels via home theaters.

Plz help me. Would appreciate if instructions given step by step. :)

Answer
First lets deal with the video. I imagine your connecting the set-top box to the TV using a HDMI cable.

If the DVD player has a HDMI port you could use that to connect to the TV, but would have to change which HDMI cable is plugged in depending on whether your watching TV (through the set-top box) or DVDs. You could buy a HDMI splitter box which would save you swapping the cables over all the time.

Alternatively you can plug the DVD into the tv using a SCART of S-Video cable.

In terms of audio. Your set-top box will have an Optical out, which will transmit digital audio. Aslong as your DVD player (which is also your amp, as far as I can tell) has an optical port, you can use one of the following;

If this solution isn't possible, I'm happy to help you find an alternative.

How can I get samsung led TV to work as importing it from uk to canada.?

Grant

My TV is being transferred. It is Do I need specialised Equipment. It is new (Model number UE40C6530UK). I am getting at Videotron Cable so just want to make sure that when the engineer turns up, I have all of the relevant information and leads with tme

Answer
Well... your TV should work in the North America. In the user manual it does say that it supports NTSC-4.43, NTSC-3.58 (and various other standards). It also supports HDMI and PC inputs, so you could always use those in a pinch (see p58 of your manual for the specifications).

That said, it won't support North American power, so you'll need a power converter to plug it in. Most power converters are designed for traveling and not for full time use. They are notoriously wasteful on electricity. You'll probably pay for a new TV in a few years just on wasted power.

For the trouble of this, you could easily just sell the TV in the UK for £300 ($400 or so) and buy a new 40" TV in Canada for about $550 -- or a used one for about half that.

How do i hook up a playstation 2 to a samsung led tv, which does not have a A/V hook up?

The Samsung led tvs do not have the red/yellow/white hook up but they do have a hdmi, Dvi, Pc/ Dvi, usb, Hdd, and composite cable. Can i buy anything to get my playstation 2 to work with it?

Answer
My Samsung LED tv came with 2 extra cables. You can plug the cables in the tv in what looks like a mic port, and you will then have the red/yellow/white hook up on the other end. The second cable you can plug in is for Component. You should have a picture on the back of the tv where you can see where you should plug in which cable.

Can you safely connect a TV, xbox, and mini fridge into one surge protector?

I have a 37" LED TV, an xbox 360, and a small mini-fridge and the way my room is situated there is only one plug I can use that isn't connected to the light switch, is it safe to plug all three into a surge protector?

Answer
depends on what wattage the sum of all devices adds up to compared to the maximum wattage rating of the surge protector. Id say youd be fine. All that will happen is overload the power board and it will cut out. There sould be an overload reset button. The surge protection will not me affected as its purpose is to protect devices from external power surges like lightening strikes to power lines or power supply authorities transformers malfunctioning...things like that.
I reckon youd be fine to run those things all together though. Just try and keep it at that and not add much more.

Edit:
Lighting and power ultimately all come from the same power source anyway. It makes zero difference unless you powering banks of florescent lighting which then, would be on a dedicated circuit. There is nothing that physically seperates the active terminal in your power point from the active terminal in your light fitting when all circuits are active (unless you have a three phase supply then all circuits will be distributed evenly over the three phases even then you still may have a power and lighting circuits on the same phase). There is technically and physically nothing wrong with what you're trying to to.

What should I buy My Bouyfriend For Christmas?

Q. He has a playstation 3, Xbox 360, LED giant TV, and a lot of cologne, clothes, shoes and snowboarding gear. Idk what to get. And the price doesn't matter.

Answer
I think shoes are the best choice. You see, it is practical. I ordered online for a pair of shoes from www.pickcheaps.com, and sent them to my boyfriend, and he really likes them. So sending shoes to him is a good idea.

I don't want LG (bad experiences with this brand)
Preferably Samsung/Sharp/Sony. (no cheap brands)
This is for my dorm room which is quite small, I currently have a 19 inch HD but its only 720p.
And my price range is £200-450

if their are other tv's that fit my description and arent more expensive then £230 could you please reccommend it as well please.

Answer
LG and Toshiba are fine. Logik and Bush are crap.

Avoid the built in DVD player. They are lower end players and will eventually fail.
Save your money and buy a better TV, or a separate DVD or Blu-Ray player.

Personally, I would go buy a TV from a store rather than online.

Is having an LED TV vs LCD Tv going to make any difference when watching Dish Network?

Jag

I am thinking whether to spend $200 more on an Samsung LED 120 Hz TV vs Samsung LCD 120 Hz Tv. Do you think the picture quality of an LED TV will be better when watching HD Channels on Dish Network?

Answer
The claim that "LED gives better picture quality than LCD" is one of the most common myths in this business.

In the first place, an "LED" set is nothing more than an LCD set with a newer type of backlighting. They both have the same LCD display.

In the second place, lab tests and owner reviews demonstrate that the important factor in picture quality is the specific model of a set, not its brand or whether it uses LED backlighting. While LED technology does provide advantages, there definitely are conventional LCD sets with better picture quality than certain low-rated "LED" sets. You need to carefully look at test results and user reviews in order to make a valid decision.

So the bottom line for you, in my opinion, is no--the picture quality difference, if any, won't justify another $200, unless the specs, reviews, etc. of the cheaper set suggest otherwise.

Which 40 inch LCD/LED TV is good for taking to India from US?

BK

I am planning to take back one LCD/LED TV 40 inch from US to India. Please suggest make & model.
I will use DIsc/ Direct to Home (DTH) connection in India, so NTSC /PAL will not be a issue.

Answer
Bad Idea since US and India use different standards.

If you insist, you need to buy a multi-standard (NTSC/PAL) TV which cost much more.

What duration is used to calculate the power consumption of an appliance?

best led tv this year
on Best Cry Ever | Know Your Meme
best led tv this year image

Akiko Hime

Today i was canvassed for an LED TV. I noticed that they put wattage values for the various TVs on display. For example the 75" Samsung TV had a power consumption of 270 KWH a year. Does that REALLY mean that if i let the TV run NON-STOP for 365 days, consume only 270 KWH? Is that the same NON-STOP usage implication for washing machines or any other appliance?

Answer
The math does not add up. 365 days == 8760 hours ==> 270 KWH/year ==~ 30.8 W hours, which sounds too low, for a 75" TV. The manufacturer has likely taken the typical (average) number of hours one is likely to watch TV and has multiplied KWH rating by that number. KWH is a better rating; that is until they standardize that KWH/year means what exactly. But even in KWH, one would have to do some averaging - the power consumption of a TV would, to a degree, depend on the kind of things you are watching, sound levels etc.

I find it rather strange that Samsung fails to mention the power rating on the full specs for the TV on their web site - http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN75ES9000FXZA-specs. I then tried Sony and they do list the max power consumption - 170 W for a 60" TV, which is 1489 KW per year, if you leave the TV turned ON for full year AND the TV is consuming full power all the time. I doubt that the Samsung TV would that much more efficient, that for a bigger TV it would have 270 KWH a year. http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666479232#specifications.

How to fix burn in in a led tv?

Hung

What is the difference between edgelit led, backlit led and edgelit backlit led and Vizio TruLED TV?

led tv edge lit image

Deacon Blu

LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, & Vizio are the only ones that I know of that make some kind of LED TV but they all use a different term when they mention the LED lighting.
Which is better?

Answer
Generally...the most expensive ones are the best!

Those are usually the backlit LED TVs(a.k.a. local dimming). They have the highest contrast ratios and best picture qualities! Edge lit LEDs have problems with back light uniformity and have lower contrast ratios!

Vizio's "TruLED" TVs are just their marketing words for backlit LED TVs! Their "RazorLED" TVs are their version of the Edge-lit LED TVs!

Basically...if the LED TV is super thin...it's an Edge-lit! If it's super expensive and not so thin...it's a back lit!

Is there a big difference in picture in an LCD TV compared to an LED TV?

Cort

Thinking about buying a new 32' tv 1080p maybe with 120hz but probably 60hz but anyways the LED TV's are like $200 more is that just because they are new or are they better?

Answer
The advice you're getting here is more theoretical than practical. The fact is that an "LED" TV is simply an LCD set that uses light emitting diodes for the backlight instead of a fluorescent lamp. Also, whether an "LED" set is dramatically thinner depends on whether it uses edge-lit backlighting or full matrix backlighting. The edge-lit sets are amazingly thin; the full matrix sets are more ordinary.

Your question asks if there is a "big" difference in the picture between the two, and the answer is no. A very good conventional LCD TV will give you a dazzling HD picture and so will almost any "LED" TV. If it has full matrix backlighting, the contrast will be better in specific areas of the screen, but again it's not a "big" difference from a conventional set.

Buy an "LED" TV with edge-lit backlighting if you want a very thin set, or with either type if you want the latest technology and a savings in power consumption. Otherwise, a top-of-the-line conventional LCD set may be the better value and will give you substantially the same quality picture.

How do I connect Xbox 360 to the Samsung Smart LED TV?

Britta

Yesterday night I went out and bought a Samsung Smart LED TV 55', set it up, blah blah blah and went to bed. Today I tried to hook up my Xbox and it just won't work. Everything is plugged in correctly...(I think...) and everything is tight enough and what not but it just won't work! Yes, my Xbox is on. Maybe I'm on the wrong channel or something I dunno but it's just not coming up on the screen. Help? Please?

Answer
Best thing to do, is to use HDMI.

You don't need to spend much ($10 - $25), but HDMI is the way to go.

Then set your input to HDMI.

If your not sure how to do that, there is often a "master" input button that will cycle through all the inputs on the TV.

How do I hook up my xbox component cables to my LED TV?

Man Person

I am trying to hook up my xbox component cables(blue, green, red) to my Toshiba LED TV 42SL417U. The input areas are much different than TVs I have dealt with before. Anybody know how so I can use my HD cables?

Answer
If its not in the back it does not have it. Look for hidden place for it but if there is none they dont have it. Just go for HDMI cable.
