The New Samsung LED TV's?

Devon Stee

So i want a new big tv because i just got dumped by my fiance and i am selling the engagement ring and i have decided to get my self a kick ass tv lol.

I have heard about these new led tv's being bright as hell and crystal clear and everything but they are a little pricey. I want like a 55 inch or so. Is it worth it? I think they are like 2700 right now i was originally looking at a plasma or lcd until my friend mentioned this and was like it is amazing and you have to buy one!

Any thoughts or help would be nice, thanks in advanced!

Answer
I disagree with above poster. Led is way better than lcd & plasma.
As the best brand for led, I would say samsung is the best followed by sony & sharp.

I don't have led (I only have lcds & plasma) but when I compared led with lcd & plasma on electronic shop, I can see clearly that led is way better than lcd & plasma. They used xbox 360 games & bluray movies as references. As for the tv comparison; they use samsung led, lcd, & plasma.

What's a good soundbar for my 26 inch LED Tv?

highground

I just got the Vizio E260MV 26 inch LED tv for one of the rooms in my home. I want to purchase a soundbar or small powered speakers for it. I was looking at the VIZIO VSB200 soundbar, but it's too big at 39 inches. I am looking for something more suitable for a 26 inch tv and that uses an optical audio cable to connect. Something less than $200.

Answer
There are a bunch of sound bar reviews from this link. Unfortunately, sound bars typically are sized for 37-40" TVs and bigger. I think in each review, the author does list the bar's dimensions.

pros and cons of an led hdtv versus an lcd or plasma?

Tim

thanksgiving day sale at walmart has a cheap led hdtv that i like, i have only had lcd hdtvs is there much a difference between the two someone explain the pros n cons of an led hdtv compared to an lcd or plasma hdtv or pros and cons of led itself

Answer
- I recommend Panasonic Plasma OR I recommend Samsung LED (better and/or expensive LED may not have the problems stated below because of additional technologies going into them). - http://reviews.cnet.com/best-tvs-picture-quality/
- Input lag for gamers: HD-TV may have more input lag if there is more processing going and how well the TV can process it. Example 1: Most PS3 or Xbox 360 video games are 720p, it would take processing power to upscale it to 1080p for a 1080p HD-TV (unless PS4 or Xbox one video games are 1080p it would be a good idea to get a 1080p HD-TV). Example 2: Interpolation and refresh rates can cause more processing too.ect = Gamer mode can turn off these processes to get less input lag.
- HD-TV viewing distance calculations: http://isthisretina.com/ OR http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/home-theater/hdtv-set-up/ OR http://www.sony-asia.com/support/faq/47537 OR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance
- I am not going to talk about HD-TV features like 3D or smart HD-TV. Im not going to talk about projectors. Im not going to talk about the new OLED (RGB or W) HD-TV's.

- A plasma HD-TV is sometimes called an emissive display, the panel is actually self-lighting for each pixel. The display consists of two transparent glass panels with a thin layer of pixels sandwiched in between. Each pixel is composed of three gas-filled cells or sub-pixels (one each for red, green and blue). A grid of tiny electrodes applies an electric current to the individual cells, causing the gas (a mix of neon and xenon) in the cells to ionize. This ionized gas (plasma) emits high-frequency UV rays, which stimulate the cells' phosphors, causing them to glow the desired color.
= Better contrast = Plasma's have better black levels, but worse white levels. Plasma's are a emissive display which means better brightness accuracy and better color accuracy.
= Better viewing angles = Plasma is a emissive display, it has little/no picture problems when viewed of axis (not directly in front of screen).
= Better for dark-lit rooms, but worse for bright-lit rooms = Plasma's can have screen glare and less contrast and less brightness and faded colors in bright-lit rooms, but they have little/none of these problems in dark-lit rooms. Better and/or expensive Plasma's may use less reflective glass.
= Better response times = Plasma's florescent phosphor coating in each subpixel stops glowing just a few nanoseconds after the electrode turns off (on and off) which means less lag and less ghosting.ect
= Better refresh rates = Plasma's better response times bundled with it's sub-feild drives or focused-feild drives take each of a it's pixel's sub-pixels and flashes it a number of times to create a image, the way Plasma works has little motion blur with sub-feild drives or little/no motion blur (and better brightness control, color quality, contrast.ect) with focused-feild drives. (Plasma can use interpolation for judder too).
= Worse screen size options, and worse weight (thicker), and worse manufacturer choices = Plasma is a emissive display which makes it hard to make a Plasma screen size smaller than 40 inches for HD-TV and you may not find them larger than 70 inches for HD-TV because the power consumption will sky rocket. Plasma's tend to about 10-20 pounds heavier too and are thicker but that can provide better audio quality tho. Main brand Plasma maker is Panasonic or Samsung or LG.
= Worse power consumption, and worse life span, but better burn in, but worse high altitudes = A plasma can cost on average around $50 a year more. A Plasma can easily last 10 years and much more. Newer Plasma's have burn in technologies that make really hard or not possible to have permanent burn in, but there sill a chance you could get temporary burn in (even tho it's harder to do now). Plasma may not work in really high altitudes and if it does the TV would create a buzzing sound.
= Price = Plasma is more expensive to buy than LCD, but Plasma is less expensive to buy than LED. Plasma does not cost that much to make.

- An LCD HD-TV is sometimes referred to as a transmissive display, the panel has sections of lighting for a section of pixels. Light isn't created by the liquid crystals themselves; instead, a light source behind the LCD panel shines through the display (CCFL LCD or LED LCD). A diffusion panel behind the LCD redirects and scatters the light evenly to ensure a uniform image. The display consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal solution sandwiched in between. The screen's front layer of glass is etched on the inside surface in a grid pattern to form a template for the layer of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals are rod-shaped molecules that twist when an electric current is applied to them. Each crystal acts like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light. The pattern of transparent and dark crystals forms the image.
= Worse contrast = LCD's have worse black levels, but better white levels. LCD's are a transmissive display which means it is edge-lit or full-array-lit and it also uses local dimming (aka backlight-flashing/scanning) which turns off sections of CCFL or LED which means you can get brightness uniformity problems (brightness leaks into areas and you can see the brightness changing to make up LCD's bad contrast and slow brightness changes.ect) which means less brightness accuracy and less color accuracy .ect (Better and/or expensive LCD use LED lights and more emissive local dimming display and more advance technologies to get a picture as good or better than a Plasma).
= Worse viewing angles = LCD uses a CCFL backlight or a LED backlight (transmissive display), and the LCD pixels act like shutters (and the red, green, blue filters), opening and closing to let light through or block it, this shutter effect causes increasing variations in picture brightness as viewers move further off axis (not directly in front of screen) which means you may notice that the picture looks less bright and vivid and you might see slight changes in color too (IPS > TN).
= Worse for dark-lit rooms, but better for bright-lit rooms = LED or LCD have the most light coming off from their screen which may strain your eyes in a dark-lit rooms, but they have little/no screen glare and little/no picture problems in bright-lit rooms.
= Worse response times = LCD'S liquid crystals take longer to change from on or off (switch around) which means more lag and more ghosting.ect
= Worse refresh rates = LCD's have more worse response times bundled with it's refresh rates which use backlight-flashing/scanning or fake interpolation frames (for judder too) or just repeat the same real frames which help reduce motion blur, but does not eliminate motion blur.
= Better screen size options, and better weight (thinner), and better manufacturer choices = LCD is a transmissive display which makes it easier to make a LCD screen size very small like around 20 inches and you may find them larger than 70 inches because they use less power consumption. LCD's tend to be about 10-20 pounds lighter too and are thinner (edge-lit displays are even thinner) but that can provide worse audio quality tho. Many brands of manufacturer to choice from.
= Better power consumption, and better life span, and little/no burn in, and little/no altitude problems = A LCD or a LED can cost on average around $50 a year less. A LCD or a LED can easily last 10 years and much more.
= Price = LED is more expensive to buy than Plasma, and LED is even more expensive to buy than LCD. LED and all the advance technologies going into them make cost more to make, but that's why there is budget LCD versions instead.

Should I buy LCD or LED TV?

Steven Gia

I'm planning to buy one for PS3 gaming

Answer
The first difference that strikes me is the price. Currently LED televisions are about 50% more than an LCD tv. However the price gap has been narrowing and will continue to do so. An LED tv uses light emitting diodes ad its source of light for the television. An LED tv uses these diodes to create a much more vibrant and colorful image. The blacks are truly black (not dark gray) and the colors are more realistic vs an LCD tv. LED tvs can achieve a contrast ratio of up to 500,000:1. They also in general have a higher refresh rate which will help when watching shows with motion such as sports or movies.

The second major difference between LED and LCD televisions is the environmental effect. LCD televisions use mercury in the manufacturing process versus the LED tv which does not! Mercury is very bad for the environment. Mercury is also used in making solar cells but that is off topic. An LED hdtv will also use about 40% LESS power than the same size LCD tv. Power usage is the dark secret of all the new line of HDTVs. An LCD or plasma television cost between $10-15 per month to operate. That is quite high particularly if you have more than one. The tree hugger in me comes down firmly on the side of LED televisions.

The thickness and therefore the weight is the last major difference of LED vs LCD tvs. LED televisions are about one third the thickness of the same size LCD tv. Correspondingly, the weight is about half. This could come into play when deciding how to mount your new HDTV.

It is my belief that LED televisions are vastly superior to an LCD tv.

LED FACTS

State of the Art Picture Quality
About 40% Less Energy usage than a same sized LCD TV
Mercury Free and a VERY Thin Design
Currently LED TV's Cost about 20-30% more

LCD FACTS

Good Picture Quality, but Images may "burn" in Display
Energy Costs run Between $150-200 per year to operate an LCD
Mercury IS used in Manufacturing Process
Cost is the Cheaper of the Two Choices

Heres a tip: for PS3 gaming, I HIGHLY recommend plugging the ps3 into the tv via HDMI cable. It makes a huge difference (it makes everything brighter and clearer, so you get the full effect of the hdtv

I need help with new HD TV?

John

I recently purchased this TV to replace my old one (which was small and very low quality.)

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Westinghouse---40%26%2334%3B-Class-(40%26%2334%3B-Diag.)---LED---1080p---120Hz---HDTV/5290913.p?id=1218703261042&skuId=5290913

I bought the TV to use with my xbox. After playing for a few days I noticed that the controls seemed delayed compared to my old TV. For example, when I look one way It seems as if it take a long time for the screen to move that way too. Is there a way to fix this? I am currently using a composite cord, so would a HDMI be better?

Answer
You need to turn off the 120 Hz stuff.

Page 33 of the manual http://westinghousedigital.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/UW40TSeries_UM-1212.pdf mentions game mode.

plasma or lcd? i need help!?

Jonny

so im getting a tv friday for my bedroom, i dont know if i should get a plasma or an lcd. i play alot of xbox games and im a sports fanatic. i watch football every sunday and ect, i also watch movies. which do you perfer?

Answer
People who dont own or work on TVs should say its MY Opinion not answer as FACT.

I have had Plasmas for years and there isnt any burn in anymore even hardly any minor IR or image retention, which goes away after a minute, there is no gas to recharge, all MYTHS!As long as I have my Plasmas I play games all the time issue free in 3D also, even if you leave a static image on for a week,Read the forums WIKI Plasma Myths.About the only non myth is Plasma uses more energy but look it up its negligible at best!
As a matter of FACT I just replaced a new LG LED Panel for a burned image from a bad panel not burn in and that's LED,yes they get static image burns also & dead pixels like on a PC screen.

I have a Panasonic VT 50 Plasma and a Samsung E8000 and both are better then any LED Ive seen except the new Sharp ELITE & Sony XBR929 series which cost over twice as much.

Any videophile will tell you Plasma has the best blacks the fastest motion best non saturated colors and natural picture quality of any technology, when OLED comes out later perhaps Plasma will finally be beaten but anyone who knows TVs & Tech knows plasma has won TV of the year over a decade at E3 and still the highest rated TV of all time is the Pioneer ELITE Plasma, still after 7 years!
Sharp bought pioneers ELITE Tech and produces 2012s E3 winner the Sharp Elite which beat the Panasonic by 1 point and samsung by 2.Not a big difference.

Get a nice Panasonic st50 or a samsung E series Plasma and calibrate it and see with your own eyes what all the professionals own & why.I had a new LG LED for a few days I couldn't handle the brightness pops and halo effect soap opera colors etc.

Read AVS Forums! & Top10TVs.com & C-Net TVs,E3 best Tvs of all time & many more.Don't take my word read the pro forums.Pioneer Plasma won 9 years Panasonic Plasma won the last few after, and yes I have been to Vegas E3 many times. The new OLEDs are Amazing from LG & Samsung,However they will retail at 10,000 dollars at launch late 2012.

Is an LED tv worth $500 dollars more then an identical LCD?

RAP SUCKS

We are either gonna get the Samsung 46" LCD 1080p 240Hz for around $1,600.
OR:
Samsung 46" LED 1080p 240Hz for around $2,100?
Is it worth it?
Which will last longer, LCD or LED?

Thanks

Answer
1 ) LED ( LCD display use LED as back-light ) is improvement and RE-FINE of LCD display.
LED TV is better in color reproduction , better dark color display.that LCD display will never reach such quality. LED TV also easy to " cover / hide " away the motion blur.
total pictures quality is always much better than any LCD TV. LED TV use 40 % less power consumptions than LCD TV.
2 ) LCD display " Life Time " is 60,000 hours. basically LED TV is LCD based , Technically is should be same life time as 60,000 hours , however LED TV on the market is less than a year.still early to said any things about the total life time as this moment ,unlikely LCD TV is proofed for that. some very first generation LCD TV is still work well after 13 years. LED TV ( LED display panel ) should be reliable to too ! but no evidence yet.
3 ) if you are looking into Pictures Quality , LED TV - Samsung 46 Inc 1080P / 240 HZ is WORTH for that ,non of LCD TV able to reach such pictures quality . Samsung is leading in LED TV technologies , Samsung LED TV taken 92 % market share ( total LED TV quantity sold worldwide ).
OPTION.
for 46 inc and above big screen. Panasonic new Plasma TV is VALUE for money.
great pictures quality . 0 Response time / 600 HZ , well-suited for sports movies / programs. with out burn in issue . life time is 60,000 hours. ( Z series is up to 1000,000 hours ). technically is better than LED TV in total pictures quality .but paid less in $ !

Pawning 55in Samsung LED TV?

littlemiss

Desperate times call for desperate measures and I'm in need to pay my bills until my unemployment comes. I just pawned a smaller Samsung tv that was 32 in and got $120 for it. I'm wondering if anyone knows if pawn shops take large tvs and how much they might be willing to give me if I pawn it. Thanks!

Answer
they will take pretty much anything, but dont expect to get anything over 2/3 street value for it. if you dont come back for it, they have to make money off the money they gave you for it.
I would expect something like $1000 maybe without knowing how old it is, its condition, and its features.

Should I buy an LG TV Extended Warranty?

CJS

Bought an LCD Model 37LG30 in 11/2008. Works great and gets a lot of use. Didn't buy the warranty at time of purchase; retailer's warranty price was 30% of the product price. LG now is offering a 2-yr or 1-yr warranty for 17% or 8%, respectively. Not sure it's worth it since as fast as technology changes, would probably be buying again when this one wears out. Warranty experiences/opinions appreciated.

Answer
For LG LCD TV need not Extended Warranty.
as LG manufactures TV by OWN from End to End . use OWN LG Korea made LCD display panel . Quality is always under well control. LG products not only TV.more than 60 electronics items sold worldwide under LG trademark . ( use to be under Lucky Gold Star before 1996 ) . all are RELIABLE ! LG TV ( CRT/LCD ) failure rate is less than 2 % in 8 years. save some money for next 5 years to own a LED TV from LG . that time LED TV costs will be 40-50 % less !

what company makes long lasting lcd/led tvs?

Gail

A tv that will last longer than 1 year.

Answer
Samsung makes the best LCD and LED tvs. If you want to be sure it keeps working buy an extended warranty and you won't have to worry. They normally last 5 to 7 years but that is very dependent on care and amount of use each day.

What to look for in a new TV?

sony1246

In the market for a new TV. I've never had a flat screen before but man am I getting a headache trying to find the facts on TVs. I don't and won't have cable or Dish...just antenna. I have an XBOX 360 and Wii and a DVD player. I'm happy with the picture on our 27" RCA tube TV but it is going out and am not gonna wait til then. I am looking for between a 42" and 46" LCD for under $800 with at least a 120 Hz refresh rate. My main problem is this...through all the websites and even asking associates at Wal Mart and Best Buy I am not getting the answers for the type of tuner I need so as to just receive the digital signals over the air. Online they say NTSC and the associates say the TVs "should" pick up the signals but nowhere can I get a definitive answer.

I need help with good brands with longevity.

Help?
Also, should I look for a glass screen or a non glare screen?

Answer
To receive on air HDTV signals, you need an ATSC tuner. Almost every TV now comes with this tuner. The NTSC tuner was for the now defunct analog network. You don't need the tuner if you are using an HD box (such as from Comcast). As far as what to look for in an LCD, there are many choices. The backlight that illuminates the screen can be either fluorescent bulb lit, or the newer LED lit. More and more TVs in 2011 are now LED lit. LEDs use less electricity, allow ultralight, and ulra thin TVs. LED TVs also give better contrast. So even though you may hear LED TV, its actually an LCD TV, with an LED backlight.

Other factors to look at are 120HZ and 240HZ. These reduce blurring when viewing fast action and sports, and are a nice feature to have. Many TVs have this feature.

Another feature to consider is internet ready TVs. These allow you to display online content such as Netflix and other content.

You can check this site out, that displays 46-inch TVs side by side.
http://www.smartreview.com/46-inch-lcd-tvs-roundup-and-comparison

3D or not. A 3D TV is just a regular 2D HDTV with some extra features to allow 3D. 3D TVs have a built in Infrared transmitter, that sends a signal to 3D glasses to turn each lens on and off hundreds of times/second to give the 3D effect. Other than that 3D TVs can display regular HD programming just like any other TV.

What LCD TV should I choose? How important is LED backlighting?

M Guy

Looking to spend about 800-1400 on an LCD TV, from 37-47". Looking for the best combination of anti-blurring, contrast ratio, and response time. Just when I thought I had my decision figured out... I started to look into LED backlit LCDs, and I was back to square one...

Basically, looking for 120Hz+ (probably 240?), good response time (for sports/video games), and of course, the best possible contrast ratio. Is it worth "sacrificing a few hz" to get an LED backlit LCD that fits in my price range instead? Any specific tv recommendations?

I am aware that Plasmas shine in all three of the areas that I named. However, I primarily plan on using my TV to play video games, watch sports, and, eventually, as a 'monitor' for my next pc. I am under the impression that plasmas, although better in recent years, are known for burn in, and while a plasma may survive playing video games and having sports cast logos without getting burn in, it most likely will not survive a 'start menu' haha. If this is wrong, correct me. Otherwise... help me choose an LCD TV please!

Answer
LCDs suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This compensated for with 120Hz and 240Hz sets. This helps a lot for sure, but its not 100%. Because of differences in response time usually, quite often 120Hz or 240Hz will be about the same in quality (depending on the brand and models you are comparing). Like Sony might have a 120Hz set with a 5ms response time and then a 240Hz set with a 8ms response time. So I don't expect the 240Hz set to be twice as good in dealing with motion blur, its a more complicated landscape.

CCFL (majority) LCDs deliver somewhat muted colors, sometimes grey blacks, and so-so contrast. This was dealt with the release of the LED LCD. The LED backlight provides more vivid colors, truer blacks, and superior contrast. It gets an LCD in the ballpark of DLP, CRT, and Plasma. But its a HUGE price premium. Is it worth it? 100% depends on your eyes. For some the difference makes it mandatory. For others, the difference isn't worth the cost. Go to a store and look at it and decide, don't worry about it at a technical level.

Plasmas from better manufacturers don't really suffer burn-in anymore. Panasonic and Samsung models even have additional anti-image retention features above and beyond the inherent improvements in the technology. Just don't game on it for the first 20-50 hours. And keep the brightness and contrast cranked way down for the first 100-200 hours. Then game away and enjoy.

I know loads of gamers who own Plasmas. Just don't leave your game on pause (if you need to pause or leave the room, shut off the TV while the console is still on then). Using it to watch movies off your PC, no big deal. to use it as your PC monitor, where you'll have a lot of static image, okay that I might not recommend.

With your budget, right now from Best Buy,

Panasonic TC-P42U1 - 42" 1080p Plasma - $850 (reg)
Panasonic TC-P42S1 - 42" 1080p Plasma - $1000 (reg)
- better contrast
Panasonic TC-P46S1 - 46" 1080p Plasma - $1300 (reg)
Samsung LN40B630 - 40" 1080p 120Hz - $950 on sale
Sharp Aquos LC46D85U - 46" 1080p 120Hz - $1000 on sale

Samsung UN40B6000VFXZA - 40" 1080p 120Hz LED - $1600 on sale - above your budget I know, but $500 off, pretty good sale

I passed some decent looking LG ones as well. If you're really heavy into the gaming maybe look into those. I think LG might have some HDTVs that are actually 2.4ms response times. I can't recall which models though, but you could figure that out from their site I'm sure.

Can I call a LED LCD, Plasma & Smart TV a HDTV? Or is HDTV another type of TV?

Q. Just wondering.

Answer
An HDTV is a TV that has High Definition resolution. HD is either 720p, or 1080p (considered Full HD) now, 1080i is pretty much dead.

Nowadays, every LED LCD, Plasma & Smart TV are HDTV, so yes, to answer your question.

To clarify, LED LCD & plasma refer to the technology of the screen to display the picture. Due to them been quite popular now, they do not make them in non HD resolution anymore. Smart TV refer to a category of more advanced operating systems running on the television, a bit like what iOS is to iPhone, or Windows to PCs. Smart TV is not related to the resolution of the screen (the HD part), but is only put on higher end models, so they are all HDTVs.

comparison LCD vs LED tv?

nick murph

Is there a huge difference in picture quality and longevity between the two? I found a really good deal for a LCD but i don't know if i should get it because it's not LED. Please explain the difference and if it is worth getting a LCD. Thanks

Answer
Well - for starters...LED tv's actually are LCD TV's...it's just the current atmosphere of marketing has everyone thinking that they are completely different (like Plasma vs LCD).

Where the difference comes in between the 2 is in it's light source. In the traditional LCD TV...the lighting of the screen came from CCFL's (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps). In the LED version...the light source comes from small LED's (either behind the screen or around the edge...which is why you will see some advertised as "Edge-Lit LED").

As far as which is better...it really depends. For the most part, LED is going to be the superior light source over the standard LCD. Additionally, the LED is going to have much better contrast, black levels, white levels and viewing angles. They also tend to be mroe energy efficient.

These days...the LCD (at least the classic LCD) is pretty much on it's way out. Production costs have come down for the LED technology and marketing/advertising has all but completely forgotten the LCD. The only real advantage you will find in the LCD is the price...and even that is not much of a difference any more.

Good Deal on a LED TV?

mercedesbl

I just purchased a true hd LED 46in Samsung, 1,000,000: 1 contrast....
I actually got it for 1599+ plus I also got the 5 yr extended warranty. With my card I will get it for no interest for 24 months so I should have it paid off well before then....
(and yes it's a LED not a LCD)

Considering it will basically be the same as if I paid in cash, is this a good deal? I have thirty days to change my mind and if I can find it lower elsewhere withing the 30 days they will honor the price...
(if anyone knows of a better deal please let me know!)

What does everyone in here think?

Additionally I also purchased a Sony HD dvd player/recorder.... I really don't want to pay additional fees each month on my satellite service. Has anyone had problems with these or any pet peeves? I'm new to HD and I just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off.

I'll buy all the hdmi cables I need from my sat service installer when I upgrade my receivers
I work for a major sat provider and when I upgrade my receivers to the HD mpeg four 1080i models I will buy the HDMI cabling from the tech when they come out to install. I can get brand new ones for 20 each. I was planning to get a couple for other plug ins... As for the Sony - I didn't get the Blu-Ray. Blue-ray is much to expensive and I wanted a recorder so I could record from the tv without a dvr. plus this one upscales to 1080. I don't buy blue-ray dvds so as long as it records in hd I'm good. It was only $118 :)
Blu-Ray is sweet but it's not sweet enough for the price tag. Especially since most of my DVDs aren't blu-ray and a blu-ray hd player/recorder would have been ungodly expensive, what say 350+ at least?

Answer
if you bought a Samsung, then you did NOT buy a TRUE LED. A true
LED is a full panel LED...that would be e1 elses LED. You bought the cheap 'edge lit' one. You also don't seem to know much about HDMI cables either. Anyone who would sell you a HD DVD player theses days should be jailed-that is an old washed up media format. You should consult with experts before you make your purchase, not afterwards.
You deserve the on coming misery you will soon get.

Which Is The Best N85 or E63?

Lind

Hi Guyz My Mom want to have a plan and shes want to pick netheir E63 or N85 Hmmm. which is the best between this two Thanks >_<

Answer

Can i play pc game like call of duty on my samsung 24" 1080p led tv?

Tuhin

I hav laptop, but i dont want to play game through my lappy, coz my fnd say laptops processor are not for gameing, processor can be distory

Answer
Of course you can play (if you have old laptop, it won't fit any new TV connection), if you have HDTV or something to plug in on TV.

Depends on the game and laptop Specs.

It doesn't need very much specs of about videos (on PC) to watch on TV.

Of course, you will see the Desktop on TV first.

Gaming pc or 47'' 3d led tv with xbox 360?

i have a ps3 already, but i could also get an amazing gaming pc

Answer
Go with the PC, because the Xbox is just an equivalent to the PS3. The PC will be good for games like Battlefield 3 and Arma 3 when they come out.

Which HDTV is Better?

Craig Mill

Sony - KDL40BX420 LCD (1080p, 60Hz) - $580
Samsung - PN43D490 Plasma (720p, 3D, 60Hz) - $540

Which of these is better. Im going to use it mostly for gaming and tv, with the occasional movie. 3D would be cool but its not that important. I will be sitting far enough away that 1080p wont really matter. I was looking at them at best buy and the plasma looked a little dark but it was pretty bright in the store. Also, if you have another TV to recommend let me know.
32" - 45"
$400 - $650 (maybe a little more depending on the tv)

Answer
The Song LCD. Plasma has lots of issues, like leaving a trail when something or someone moves on the Tv, which is typically called "ghosting". Also Plasma screens sometimes "burnout". Though, Plasma has a better color spectrum. But the best type is an LED.
Also, there are only so many games you can play in 3D and you have to buy glasses which I've seen for an extra $200.

Look up "squidoo best HDTVs of 2011" in google, and you'll find all the info you need.

I'm also looking at getting a new Tv, so I know a lot of good ones, but what's your exact price range. I know around $550 but is $580 the max? Also how many inches do you want? Add your price range and inch range and I'll add some recommendations.

Ok, so I'll just write the info for each tv. I would put the url since I'm still in the process of fixing my computer, so I have to use my iPod and PS3 to go on the internet.

Will 1080p HDTVs price drop by JAN 2011?

Bobby

I missed out on 'BLACK FRIDAY' due to low funds and wanna know if I would get similar good deals on HDTVs by Jan of 2011? My Preference... 42"-46" 1080p 160hz to 240hz. Please honest answers only. Thanks!

Answer
LCD 1080P models every 6 month will drop about 5 %. as LCD TV soon will replace by LED TV.
in next 3 months , after Jan 2011 Mose of the OLD MODELS 1080P LCD TV -- very sure could be another 10 % to 16 % lower .some OLD LED models could be 5 to 8 % lower .
those local house brand ( off brand ) usually clear stock after year end, could be up to $ 200 to 300 Discount , but beware of " reliability "..
if you are looking for 120 HZ / 240 HZ 1080P consider High End products. such range LED TV may not getting good prices in next 3 months.
but very sure , you get good discount for 1080P big screen 120 / 240 HZ LCD TV after new year 01 01 2011 .

LCD or LED----------------------?

Which is best for a new TV?

Answer
The only advantage of the older LCD sets over "LED" is that they are usually a lot cheaper. Some LCD sets have excellent picture quality, as good or better than many LED sets, as demonstrated in Consumer Reports lab testing. But in general, the "LED" set is preferable because it is less prone to repair issues--it doesn't have the fluorescent lamp that will eventually burn out, or the inverter board that is the source of frequent LCD TV failures.

With all other specifications being equal, I'd opt for the "LED" set for that reason alone, even if it costs a little more.

What is the best led tv?

Answer
I would recommend looking at reviews on Newegg.com or pick up a consumer reports magazine.

Are Samsung's new flat LCD and plasma TVs really freakin awesome or what?

Q. Samsung has really won me over this year and I don't usually do the whole brand thing.
God they are FREAKIN BEAUTIFUL!!!

I hope they keep up the good work.

I just saw their new commercial for the really thin TV--I've read about so many new displays the last few years that I cant even remember what the display for it was... but... if its anything like their LCDs or Plasmas... DO WANT!!!

Answer
Samsung Is World No 1 ( total Quantity sold ) TV manufacture start from 2009. there use to be no 2 after Sony. but kick out Sony end of 2008. Samsung products ( not only TV ). market worldwide. Samsung is the First TV Manufactures for LED TV. Samsung have there very own LCD display panel factory in Korea . all hi end model , display panel by own made. Samsung also joint venture with Sony to manufactures LCD display in Korea ( S-LCD display ) those low end / mid end TV model by Sony and Samsung use the same display panel by S-LCD Korea. the company also sales display panel to many other TV maker who did not made display panel. Samsung is Leading in LCD tv ( also LED ) but not Plasma. Samsung Plasma not so great compare to Pioneer ( world Best TV ) and Panasonic Plasma .Samsung Plasma display panel is out source from other. If Samsung TV with out good Quality , there can never be No 1 , kick out all other Japan TV manufactures in 5 years time. Reason is Standard model , cheap and good + reliable ,Hi End model , Excellence pictures Quality + Advance technology + Reliable + reasonable prices .

Which TV 40-42" TV should I choose ?

Jacob F

Ok, so I got a sales spiff from work and I get to choose a free TV from select models they have in the company "rewards store". Even knowing the differences between LCD and plasma, and reviews of the models.... I'm still not sure what I should get. This is going to go in my living room, no gaming consoles, standard light issues of a living room.

If you had to choose a TV for yourself from this list; which would you choose?

Panasonic TH-42PX77U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Samsung LN40A450 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Samsung LN40A330 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
thought about just going with the JVC for the 1080p but the reviews on CNET are terrible
Guys - I have to choose from the 5 models listed above!

Answer
BEST Pictures Quality / prefect True colours is from Plasma TV.
Panasonic is top in Plasma TV. Samsung Plasma TV okay.
PANASONIC 42B450 model use NEW PLASMA TECHNOLOGY ! with Anti " screen burn circuit " designs, " burn in " to Plasma display is become history.life time is as good as LCD , is 60,000 hours now. less heat ( not so hot like old plasma TV ). if you want the BEST PICTURES. get Panasonic Plasma. * Samsung Plasma second choose ).
If you ONLY go for LCD . Samsung LN A serial is Quality / reliable and reasonable price ! all Samsung LCD/LED TV are Quality, if not Samsung will not hold world No 1 TV ( total quantity sold ) position!
Never never but JVC TV. Even is 1080 P ( you able to get Samsung 1080 P 40 inc in good prices ). JVC is only good in Audio. or those CRT TV from JVC is quality ! JVC LCD TV is total out ! because Panasonic total given out JVC , Panasonic sold it out and don't provide any technical support to JVC ( Panasonic kick out JVC and buy over Sanyo Japan,New Sanyo TV is under Panasonic technical support ).JVC is own by Kenwood Japan, a Audio maker ! is rename as Kenwood-JVC holding . there are good in Audio not Video ( LCD Tv ). beware of this !
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php?topic=228.0
For 42 inc even 720 P Plasma from Panasonic able to display better quality pictures compare to 42 inc LCD TV.because of Plasma display technology. . 0 Response time.400 HZ refresh rate.no motion blur.
Mose of the people who not sure about Plasma or LCD, wil go for LCD TV, even give them 101 good reason for Plasma !
So . if you go for LCD. 1080 P is better pictures quality in 40/42 inc , look for Samsung full HD 1080 P 40 inc model ! is will be cheap and good. ( Sony 40 inc.Sharp and Panasonic 42 inc LCD is Quality / reliable too, but prices may costs more ) .
Advice :
Panasonic TH42PX77U CHEAP AND QUALITY PICTURES +RELIABLE.PREFECT CHOOSE !

What tv should I buy? LED, LCD, or combination LCD/LED?

James

Are the pictures in LED's sharp and colorful like LCD? Will I have problems with a combination LCD/LED like with a LCD? My Toshiba Regaza won't power up, it's a little over 3 years old and hasn't been used much the last two years. I was told "3 yrs old is getting pretty old for those tv's." Will LED's last any longer? (I was told the problem with the Toshiba Regaza is probably a $3 capcitor, but it wasn't worth fixing because repairment get $100 an hour. I got it from my godfather's estate very cheap, but new that tv sells for about $950. It's a 32")
Right now, LCD's are selling REALLY reasonables. LED's are supposed to last longer, but are pretty high priced. Saw a nice combo LED/LCD Toshiba 24" , but don't know if I should have anything to do with LCD ANYthing!!! I just don't understand these tvs, but sure love the picture quality of the Toshiba.

Answer
LED tvs are LCD tv's they are just back lit by and led light source instead of a fluorescent light source.

I would not buy another toshiba if I were you if your only made it 3 years before crapping out.

The LED's do last longer some have 20 year warranties, but if you only plan on keeping it a few years then dumping it it don't matter much.

The power supply is toast in your old one and it will cost less to fix it than replace it I would bet so I might get it fixed if it will only cost no more than 200 bucks. More than that start looking for another tv, because 32" class flat screens have came way down from 950 bucks.

Get a hold of a soldering iron and repair the tv yourself and it will only cost 3 bucks an a little time to fix. If it is a blown cap you should be able to locate it and remove it easy.

I have had my Sony Bravia 32" about 3 years and it is a traditional LCD no trouble yet, and it has a 20 year warranty on the screen, so I am not worried, my other tv is a Phillips Plasma TV and it is a 2008 model works like brand new, it is on right now, I got it from work for 50 bucks about a year ago it is a nice 50" .

Also consider the cheaper ones at Wal-Mart, Target, etc... they have the same picture quality and warranty as the high end models for a lot less, if you are trying to be money savvy, and if the factory warranty is not enough protection for you get an extended warranty for an extra 30-60 bucks, and it will cover it for even longer just in case.

I bought a 22" Vizio from Wal-mart and I am using it as my computer monitor and speakers right now, I have had it about a year, it was cheaper than buying a new 22" computer monitor, and works just as well.

The new tvs are better than the old CRT's in just about every way, energy wise, weight, picture quality, I could go on but you get the point. You just drew the short straw on the one you got, there are bad ones in all brands, if you buy another one of the same brand and kind it may last a life time with no problems. Remember there are duds out there and it sucks when you get one trust me I know I have had my share of expensive paperweights right out of the box ( not talking about just tv's I am talking about anything here).

Estate sales and Auctions are risky because you are buying things as is, and if it is broken when you buy it well you are stuck with it and out the money, I bought a broken gun once at an auction I paid 120 bucks for it, thought it was a good deal, went out to shoot it, and about hurt myself when the cylinder timing was off and lead spray came out from between the cylinder and barrel. The gun was useless and not safe, and I took it to a repair shop and the guy laughed at me for paying 120 bucks for it he said it was only worth about 40 in good condition oops!
Needless to say mine was dangerous and worthless it met its fate at the receiving end of my 10lb sledge hammer!

What makes 3d led tv better than others like it?

What makes 3d led tv better than others like it?

Answer
There has been a lot of hype and confusion surrounding the introduction of "LED" Televisions. Even many marketing representatives and sales professionals that should know better are falsely explaining what an LED Television is to their prospective customers.

To set the record straight, it is important to note that the LED designation refers to the backlight system used in some newer LCD Televisions, not the chips that produce the image content.

LCD chips and pixels do not produce their own light. In order for an LCD television to produce a visible image the LCD's pixels have to be "backlit". For more specifics on the backlighting process needed for LCD Televisions,

LED TVs are still LCD TVs. It is just that these new sets use LED backlights rather than the fluorescent-type backlights used in most other LCD TVs.

In other words, LED TVs should actually be labeled LCD/LED TVs.

How LED Technology is Used In LCD TVs

The are currently two main ways that LED backlighting is applied in LCD flat panel televisions.

One type of LED backlighting is referred to as Edge Lighting. In this method, a series LED backlights are placed along the outside edges of the screen. The light is then dispersed across the screen. The advantage of this method is that the LED/LCD TV can be made very thin. On the other hand, the disadvantage of Edge lighting is that black levels are not as deep and the edge area of the screen has a tendency to be brighter than the center area of the screen.

The other type of LED backlighting is referred to as Full-Array. In this method, several rows of LEDs are placed behind the entire surface of the screen. The advantage is that these sets can employ "local dimming". Local dimming means that each LED or a specific group of LEDs can be turned on and off independently within certain areas of the screen, thus providing more control of the brightness and darkness for each those areas, depending on the source material being displayed. On the other hand, LCD TVs that employ full array backlighting are thicker than LCD TVs that employ an Edge-lit LED light source.

If you are considering the purchase of an LED/LCD Television, find out which brands and models are currently using the Edge or Full Array method and take of a look at each type when you go shopping to see which type of LED backlighting looks best to you.

70 plus inch TV buying help?

Justin

LED TV buying help please?
Hello, I need some expert advice on a TV purchase that I'm going to be making in the near future.

I want to go with 70+ inches for sure but I need to stay in the $3000 range for price.

I have a short list of models but I would love to hear other options if there are any.

Sony KDL70R550A
Samsung UN75F6300AFX
Sharp LC-70LE857U
Sharp LC-80LE650U

Thanks

Answer
Dang there are a lot of thumbs down here!

With changes coming along, I'm not sure I'd plunk down $3000 on a set at this point. Maybe hold back a little bit and see where 4k ends up as prices fall as well as new technology that is around the bend.

Of the sets I see listed, my main "uneasy" one is the Sony, and that is due to parts availability issues should the set need repair at some point. Sony has really "fallen from grace" and just isn't the great brand, at least in the US market, that it once was. Great picture - but too much money is being spent on a set that may not be fixable.

Samsung and Panasonic (an excellent brand you don't have in your list) are good, safe bets. Actually Sharp has been making a good set, they just don't have the presence that Samsung/LG/Panasonic does.

How about this.... base your purchase on the service provided by the store. When spending good money on a good set, you want a store that will stand behind the set if you have a problem. I'd place that as the most important feature here (and still avoid the Sony).

Best/biggest TV for no more then $1,500?

MSI Magus

Ok so me and my wife are planning on getting a new TV. We were thinking we would get a projector since we wanted a really large image, but after reading about burn out rates of light bulbs and how expensive they are to replace we decided it was not for us. As a general price we want to spend between $1,000 and $1,500 but if the right TV(like something that was like 70+ inches for a good price)appeared we would pay more. We do not really watch TV, just instant streaming on netflix and we play a lot of video games. Only other thing to note is that screen size really is our main concern. We want something that is at least 58" but the bigger the better.

Anyone have any TVs or better yet sales to recommend? Even better if you can link sites that have it on sale!

Samsung OR Sony LED Smart TV?

SadGuy2

I am having tough time choosing LED TV. I have being using Sony products especially TV and LCD since old days and the products is truly reliable and long lasting. As time goes by I need to upgrade my TV to smart LED TV and was having tremendous tough time choosing which is a right TV I should acquire. Samsung technology was amazing! It has all the features like no one else have it at the reasonable price. Sony was reliable and long lasting but feature wise, I don't think Sony can beat Samsung. And yet, Sony is extremely expensive with minimal feature that every LED TV has. Worst of all, I was told that SONY LED panel is sourced from Samsung. But according to other sources, Samsung is not that long lasting as Sony and break down rate is much higher compared to Sony. Which one should I buy???
is ES6600 Samsung good?

Answer
Well you have some things right and some wrong thats normal on here this is a site with mostly opinion like asking whats better a camaro or a mustangeveryone has an opinion,The sony panels are made in japan the samsung in korea so although some things are made by other companys like Ipad screens are made by samsung and sharp used to use some Lg also. But sony uses their own paqnels and have had alot of issues in the past few years sony recalled 1.8 million tvs last year alone for melting pcb boards. The only sony worth buying is the new flagship xbr929 but its very expensive.I used to love sony untill i started getting calls every day for service.Samsung has more sarvice than any other brand but thats because they sell more tvs than any other company by a long way.Sony just fired their CEO and promises future products to be better but still posted a 14.8 billion loss in Q1 2012 and samsung was oposite at 27 billion according to retail metrics.Go with the best samsung you can afford I have the E8000 and 3D and smart features are awesome and picture quality is outstanding.Dont get fooled by opinions with no fact,do the research and see wat I mean.+++EDIT+++ Just to clarify meant sony announced 2011 losses in 2012 and never said dollars which is bad anyway and Just this is only thing I'll say Samsung has a market cap in the USA shares,at 134 Billion larger than sony, nokia, toshiba, panasonic, and lg combined!!!! Asker you have pros on here all the time telling people samsung and panasonic and never sony not a pro.I fix tvs among other tech and Sony is getting better for the next year but it could be too late as their reputation has suffered the last few years and if your going to take advice from a guy who owns a sony or pros who have fixed and own them for years, the last good sony was the xbr crt,the dlp was bad the lcds worse Sony the only tv company to recall all w series lcd models for burning down peoples houses in some cases over 1.8 million is the truer number.Sony claimed 1.6 and reuters claims 2 million. The bottom line you asked best now.And the Samsung is better and cheaper with more features and a better designed set.Look it up on line, not my opinion its a fact sony posted losses for the last few years.Whether Im off a few or not the losses were big enough to lay off and close down factories and even Sharp dumped Sony as a partner,So get your answer straight your a sony fan boy.you say sony every answer,I tell people what the best is of what they ask you just say sony to every question Lo0ok at the real AV guys answers its never Sony, not anymore. To be technical the best LED made in 2012 is the Sharp Elite at 6k.Samsung 7 and 8 series are the best all around tvs for the money and Panasonic.Go on AVS or Home Theatre sound & vision mag or online and see.TV of the year The top 1 & 2 TVs of the year award was Panasonic and samsung 2 points below 3 straight years before that 8 straight years it was Pioneer Elite sony hasnt won E3 in over 15 years,Sharp Elite and Panasonic 50 series and new Samsung E8000 are the 3 up for Tv of the year 2012 from E3.Get the Samsung or a sharp even LG before Sony.Im not a hater I kinow whats better I take them apart daily.++++EDIT++++ The Samsung es sries is AWESOME! The 6 is good but if you can afford to step up to the ES7 or 8000 as they have dual core cpu andd better upgraded Panel real black pro.I have the 8000 and after adjusting it properly ist absolutely the best new set I have evr owned and I have 4 new tvs,its PQ is close to the best Plamas.which are known for best naturalPQ,just get a calibration disc and dial in which ever samsung you decide and you will get a great picture with saturated colors great blacks and brightness like youve never seen! I have no more room to tell you more.LOL Just get the TV you Like and remember if it looks good in store it will be 10x better at home set properly! I do this every day!

I want to buy a new tv and want to compare samsung LED VS sony LCD

Answer
LED TV is always better / much better than LCD TV. and LED TV prices is 2 to 3 X higher than LCD TV. cant compare between LED TV and LCD TV.
Samsung LED is GREAT. Samsung leading in LED TV. world No 1 total quantity sold , 92 % LED TV on the market is by Samsung.
if you afford to paid for Samsung LED TV. go for it. is GREAT.
If you Budget is low ! Sony and Samsung LCD TV both equally good quality / reliable.but both make Standard entry lever / mid-end / hi end LCD model. please compare to the same range of model. prices is main issue !

and on the tv settings like vivid standard personal movie and other, brightness contrast color calibration...

its my first HD tv end i dont know stuff about it and i i dont understand meaning of the word like ps smoothing and other coz english is not my language...

Answer
Unless someone has the same tv ,its going to be hard to say what settings to use . My best advice would be put on a game and have it in the back ground as you mess with the tvs settings. As far as ps smoothing goes, that's for ps1 games so they aren't so distorted by the tv.

3d tv - compared to lCD and lED...?

what is a 3D tv..and how is this different from LCD and LED tvs with respect to cost and use.
is 3D tv good for home use or only for bill hall theatrical effects.

------------

Answer
LED, LCD, and Plasma are technologies to display the picture.
3D is can use LED and Plasma. Never heard of one that uses LCD but that is theoretically possible.

3D displays two pictures, one for your left eye, and a slightly different one for your right eye. You wear glasses that filter the images giving you the illusion of three dimensions. The reason for buying 3D today is because they result in the best 2D TV's available.

LCD and LED block various amounts of light using LCD's. The difference is backlighting where LED is superior. Plasma is kinda like having 2 million old style CRT's. This tech has nothing to do with 3D.

No clue what bill hall theatrical is. Audio?

A good TV for gaming?

Jake

I play Call of Duty and Halo a lot and I was just wondering what would be the best TV for gaming? Thank you.
Btw I don't know if it matters but I play on the Xbox 360. Thanks.

Answer
If you are buying a TV for gaming you will most likely want either an LCD or LED TV. These types do not screen burn from constantly having the HUD displayed in the bottom right and left corner. The industry leader for LCDs is Sony, the leader for LED is Samsung. Also TVs are expensive make sure you understand what each different component does. There is a great gamers TV buyers guide here: http://www.omfgnetwork.com/2012/omfgn-television-buyers-guide/

Hope this helps

I need to know what pros OLED TVs will have over soon-to-be released 2012 models of LED or plasma sets.?

Ashley Par

Ok I've seen all the OLED questions people already asked but none are for gaming. I need to know what pros OLED TVs will have over soon-to-be released 2012 models of LED or plasma sets. I plan on either making a down payment on a cheap car and getting a lower -end 2012 LED/plasma set or buying the OLED TV if its worth it. Will the cost of the TV drop dramatically after lets say, 1-2 months of release as it did with Playstation 3's?

Answer
Ok, I have seen some of the TVs planned for release in 2012 that are NOT OLED TVs and I agree some are pretty nice. However I can assure you they won't be anything more than a slight upgrade in gaming experience from current TVs, and hereâs why:

High-end gaming such as hardcore FPS games, (CoD, Battlefield 3, Soon to be released GTA5) require high processing power as well as very little lag. The 2012 line up will have only slight modifications to these hardware attributes. Contrast ratio will most likely be increased by a few thousand. As far as colors and 3D effect, the change wonât be too much since the panels are the same. Most LED TVs will have an input lag of about 10-15 ms as where the OLED TV that LG plans to release boasted a 0.12 ms input lag speed. That is blazing fast and those scenes where a lot of action is going on, you WILL notice the difference on OLED TVs.

Hereâs where the major change will occur. OLED TVs will have the most outrageous contrast ratio ever for a television. You will see the blackest of blacks and the most vivid colors ever seen on a TV. I am not quite sure what the 3D will look like but one can pretty much assume it will be much much more pronounced than any of its predecessors.

Here I found a video where you can just actually see how pronounced the colors are and donât forget to check out the blacks. In my opinion, buy the car next year, get the TV.

best under $ 1000 tv over 55 inch?

askari

need new good big screen tv for under 1000 has to be 55 inch or bigger

Answer
This one is a must have, it is ranked as the best HDTV (that's not 3d) of 2010 and
blows away any LED. It is a 100 dollars more and 50 inch, but it's a must have model.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9788953.p?id=1218175321979&skuId=9788953

There is a 58 inch panasonic plasma S2 but it's 1400 bucks and the picture
is nothing compared to the 50 inch model I posted on top. Even though it's
smaller by 5 inches, 50 inch is huge and you have the best HD set of 2010 for
1100.

Is a 1080p tv better then a 720p?

francisco

Hi I have a 3d tv and it's a samsung plasma 50 inch 720p but apparently i play blue rays and Xbox and ps3 all at 1080p and there doesn't seem to be a problem when I connect a new device it automatically outputs a 1080p signal? However this tv is an old model bought it for 850 I just got an offer for 1100 because of the glasses but I saw a tv on best buy an led Sony new model 55 inch 1080p 240hz with 2 glasses for only 1400 so I will just pay 300 more plus tax of course but is led better then plasma is it worth it? Thanks :)

Answer
The image on your TV is just a collection of individual pixels. On a 720p TV, the number of pixels used is 1280x720 (multiply it out). On a 1080p TV, the number of pixels used is 1920x1080 (multiply it out). So on a 1080p TV more pixels are used to draw the image on the TV.

In theory that means a 1080p TV can offer a more detailed image. More pixels means more subtle details and information can be used to draw the image. But that's only in theory. In reality, human perception comes into play. Depending on the size of the TV and how far back you're viewing it, you may or may not be able to see the extra details. It varies from person to person as we all have different visual sensitivities. The only way to know for sure is to go into a store and look with your own eyes (at a normal viewing distance).

At 50", around 6-8 feet viewing distance, its thought most people would notice the advantages of 1080p option. But again, everyone is different. I certainly know people that have 50" and went 720p and are 100% happy with their HDTV viewing experience. You are watching a TV at the end of the day, not a spec sheet, so 1080p is only definitely better on the spec sheet, not necessarily in real world viewing.

As for Plasma vs LED, they are pretty close these days. People will be fans of one or the other, but they are quite competitive in quality now. Both have advantages and disadvantages. They both have great blacks. Plasma is a bit more glossy so might have issues in bright rooms (but new ones have good anti-reflection coatings). LEDs are still LCDs, so are still susceptible to a bit of a judder on playback of fast motion (Plasma is a bit more natural looking, like a CRT or DLP).

If you're okay with the TV you have now, I'd keep it and wait another 2-3 years. Sony demoed a new 3D TV at this year's CES which required no glasses at all. They've made it, but won't talk too much about it yet because its still heavily under R&D and not public ready. Other brands are working on the same. Some of the other ones are said to be pretty ugly, but the Sony one got some decent reviews, from the limited preview they gave people. So I'd frankly wait on that myself before spending the extra $300.
