Answer
This will definately answer your question............ Manchester United!!!!!

"The most handsomest, the most spacious and the most remarkable arena I have ever seen. As a football ground it is unrivalled in the world, it is an honour to Manchester and the home of a team who can do wonders when they are so disposed"

Sporting Chronicle: Saturday 19th February 1910
The above words were written on Old Trafford's opening day in 1910. Manchester United had just moved from their old stadium of Bank Street, Clayton, to a new stadium in the Old Trafford area of west Manchester. Built in 1909, for the then huge sum of £60,000, it was terraced on three sides with a seated main stand undercover. The stadium had a maximum capacity of 80,000 and was designed by famous Scottish architect Archibald Leitch, who also designed stands at Hampden Park, Ibrox Stadium and White Hart Lane.

In 1911 and 1915 it held the FA Cup final and in 1920 it had it's largest ever attendance of 70,504 for a league game against Aston Villa. The 1939 FA Cup Semi-Final of Wolves vs Grimsby would top that with 76,962, a figure which stands to the present day. The stadium was heavily damaged in World War 2 and for a while United played at local rivals, Man City's Maine Road stadium from 1946-1949.

Roofed cover was later added to the other three sides of the stadium, however all these stands suffered from obstructed views because of old fashioned roof-post design. In the mid 1960s development of modern cantilever stands began on the north and east of the ground in time for the World Cup. The new design had terracing at the front and a large seated section behind. Old Trafford was a venue for the 1966 World Cup and also held the 1970 FA Cup Final replay between Chelsea and Leeds. It also became the first stadium to erect perimeter fencing in the 1970's to combat crowd disturbances. Gradually the entire ground was redeveloped over the decades, culminating with the Stretford End in 1994.

In the 1960s, 70s and 80s, over 58,000 could pack into Old Trafford. However in the early 1990s after the Hillsbrough disaster, the Taylor Report required England's top teams to have all-seater stadiums. The Old Trafford design master plan of the 1960's was now complete and the stadium was a perfect bowl, but with United more popular than ever the reduced 44,000 capacity was just too small.

This led to further expansion in 1995-6 with the construction of the giant three-tiered North Stand, holding 26,000 and bringing capacity to nearly 56,000. The North Stand, reaching around 200 feet in height has four lift towers and the largest cantilever roof in Europe. This massive, brooding structure towers over the pitch, intimidating opposing teams. Costing £19 million to build it also houses the excellent United Museum on three floors (open on non-match days) and glittering trophy room (hopefully always full) as well as the Red Cafe restaurant and two layers of executive "Sky" boxes.

The South stand is the main stand at Old Trafford, containing the managers bench area, the directors/ television/ police control boxes and luxury restaurants and executive suites. Here, the seating slopes at a different angle to the rest of the stadium, making it slightly lower than the other stands.

Interestingly, the first 20 or so rows of seats around all four sides of the ground are below street level. The South stand is rarely seen on television as it contains the TV gantry, which looks North. The players tunnel used to be at the centre of this stand but in 1993 it was moved to the South-west corner. The old tunnel still remains and is opened for special occasions and stadium tours.

The East Stand was home to the diehard K-Stand United fans (most of whom have relocated to the Stretford End) as well as the away fans enclosure in the South-East corner and disabled section. It was formerly known as the Scoreboard End, so called because of the large scoreboard that resided until the late 60s, when an electronic one was installed. This scoreboard was recently replaced by two modern electronic scoreboards in each corner of the North Stand.

Further building redevelopment added a second tier at the east end in January 2000, making a 61,000 capacity. On the outside is a large tinted glass front, similar to a modern office block. Here stands the Sir Matt Busby Statue, Munich memorial plaque and the famous clock commemorating the Munich air crash on 6th February 1958. Its also the location of the huge Manchester United Megastore where every type of club merchandise is available.

The west side of the ground for many, will always be known as the legendary Stretford End. In the days before all-seater stadia the Stretford End was a heaving mass of almost 20,000 standing United fans who were amongst the loudest in Britain. It was once measured that the roar from the crowd was louder than a Jumbo Jet taking off. The old terrace was replaced in 1993 and in August 2000 a second tier of seating was added here, bringing a total capacity of 68,217.

The West Stand holds the Family seating area and beneath the corner is the players dressing rooms/tunnel and lounge. You can also see many banners draped over the upper deck, created by United fans to celebrate past history and taunt rivals. It also has a statue of 60's striker Denis Law in the upper concourse - Law was known as "The King of The Stretford End".

Old Trafford was a Euro 96 venue hosting a Semi-final and is now an annual venue for one of the FA Cup Semi-final's. On 28th May 2003 the stadium had the honour of hosting the Champions League Final between AC Milan and Juventus, which Milan won 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. Many claim the atmosphere at Old Trafford is not as good as it once was, ironically it is the legend of the Old Trafford atmosphere that has brought the tourists yet they are partly responsible for its decline. Sir Alex Ferguson has often complained about the lack of singing and low noise levels, therefore the upper West Stand tier has designated singing areas to try and recreate the days of old.

In 2005 work began on filling in the corners at the North-West and North-East quadrants, creating a 76,000 capacity by the end of the season and restoring the "bowl" effect on two thirds of the ground. Expansion work on the South side is not in the immediate future because of restricted space. The nearby railway track could be built over, but the club would have to buy up to fifty nearby houses at great expense and disruption to local residents. However the long-term plan for the stadium remains to rebuild the South stand in a similar style to the North and with filled corners, make for a whopping 96,000 all seater capacity.

Old Trafford is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most famous sporting arena's in the world. In an era where many clubs are moving from their traditional homes and although down the years it has changed beyond all recognition, the magic of Old Trafford will always remain. On a big match day or European night the atmosphere is as good as any venue in world football. The Theatre of Dreams (as Bobby Charlton named it) is the biggest club ground in Britain and a fitting home for the world's most famous football club.

Punishments?

What are good ways to punish a dog without being violent/verbally abusing?

My dog is not behaving lately, and first couple of times I scolded at him until I read from a book telling me to take away the dogâs freedom.

I started doing what the book says by locking him up in a cage instead of letting him freely wonder around the apartment. At first, he cried to be led out but I ignored it. *I hope it is working.

I am wondering what are the ways to let the dog know that he is under punishment.

Answer
Fact of life - all dogs need to chew and all puppies investigate with their mouths. Your pup should be kept in some type of small enclosure (dog crate) when you can't supervise him. Like a playpen for a baby, it keeps him safe and out of trouble. It should NOT be used to punish the dog for bad behavior.

They're not born knowing what not to touch. When you have time to watch him, let him loose and show him a dog toy. If he takes it, praise him! If he sniffs, licks or begins to chew anything else - use sharp hand clapping, a soda can with pennies taped inside or a quick shake by the scruff of the neck for a correction. Then immediately get a dog toy and begin playing with it. Don't have more than three dog toys at first - too many toys convinces the dog that EVERYTHING lying loose on the floor is his to play with.

Puppies are like infants - they have a very short attention span and don't understand punishment. You shouldn't really "punish" a puppy at all. You have to actively supervise them when they are out of their crates. You have to teach them what YOU decide is good and what is bad. Punishment implies only that you do something negative when they do something you don't like. A proper "correction" is something that instantly stops the bad behavior, shows them what else to do instead and praises them for the good behavior. Keep her on a leash at all times and tie the end to your belt so you can supervise and train her.

Read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

Is the new samsung LED tv the better new generation tv over plasma and LCD?

is the new samsung LED tv the better new generation tv over plasma and LCD?

Answer
In terms of picture quality it's better then standard LCD, but NOT better then Plasma yet!

Plasma TV's = 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio; 40,000:1 native and 600hz refresh rates!

LED LCD TV's = 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio; 20,000:1 native and 120hz refresh rates. AND SUPER EXPENSIVE!!!

And LED LCD's still suffer from some degree of motion blurring during fast motion content like sports & gaming...Plasma TV's DON'T! Plasma TV's are still the king of Picture quality!!!

What kind of force does it take to damage a pixel on an HDTV LED screen?

Yup

I was hanging my curtain rod up and my Samsung 29" LED HDTV was on the dresser in front of the window in my bedroom. The stupid metal loops the fit onto the rod slid off as I was tilting the rod to hang it on the wall above the window and slapped the LED screen about 2 feet below. Should I be that anally worried about my new HDTV and its screen or am I overworrying? Next time I hang a curtain up, I'll just move the damn TV off the dresser and place it somewhere else. It seems like everything I've done so far has vowed to do harm to this new TV that I love. I'm really protective of it.

Answer
The "pixels", that is, the LED elements that produce the points of light, are beneath at least one layer of protective plastic. It's very unlikely that you damaged one of them. If you turn it on and don't notice any problems in the picture in the area that was hit, it's fine. Almost certainly, the worst you've done is put a slight scuff on the plastic surface, and most of that can be polished out if you insist.

Having trouble with getting led hdtv to get a signal?

jose

just got a new led hdtv but cant get a signal. everything is connected, but still cant get to show an image/sound. i tried every possible combination. i have dish satellite tv. that being said, do i need to contact my satellite provider for instructions? anyone else having/had this problem, and how did you fix it?

Answer
The satellite box will provide some video if it s on, so connect that to an A/V in on the TV, preferably component or HDMI.

Try another A/V source on those inputs.

If it is a Dishnetwork TV 2 output, set the TV to cable and scan. The TV 2 channel will be in the 60s or 70s, and be analog SD

Which one do you think should i buy?
I know LG is a good brand for pc monitors but what about Philips and Asus?
by the way, which is better LED or LCD? in terms of Lifespan on number of hours?
I need your advice guys, thank you.

Answer
ASUS is my personal favorite brand, but Samsung is generally the most popular. I have had many Phillips monitors/tvs in the past and they do seem to be slightly lower quality (but still very good). I personally would go for the 17 inch LG with the 1440x900 resolution or the 18.5 ASUS 1366x768 resolution. The higher the resolution is the more stuff you will be able to see on the screen and having a larger screen makes the things you can see on the screen larger. Sorry for the wordy response.

How much energy is used during a light show?

led tv electricity usage
on Samsung's LED TV is actually an LCD TV with LED backlighting
led tv electricity usage image

blu

I'm doing a project on this but I can't really find much information on the amount of energy that is used up. Does anyone know?
The amount of energy used for lighting up a building at night would be useful too.

Answer
The numbers you seek are all relative....

Let us say that a marque has 500 small light bulbs and that each light bulb is a 25 watt light bulb. This means that each bulb uses 25 watts per hour. Lighting up the marque for one hour then uses (500*25w) or 12,500 watts. If the marque is lit for 10 hours per night, then the amount of energy used just on the marque climbs to 125,000 watts for just one night; and 54,125,000 watts in a single year of 365 nights. This does not include the building, accent, doorway, or spot lights used on and about the building.

The amount of energy used for any one light show, on any one building, etc,,, depends upon the sum of the wattage of the light sources times the amount of time they are used.

Getting back to the marque example, some businesses are moving towards LED lights which use far less energy for the amount of light, or lumens, they give off. Other businesses are moving towards an assortment of timers and photo-electric cells to guide the turning on and off of their lights.

Home owners and apartment dwellers can do the same. They can also use a number of different types of CFL light bulbs which use far less energy than incandescent light bulbs to produce the same number of lumens, or amount of brightness. Towards "decorative" lights, many people are shifting to strings of LED Christmas lights, LED rope lights, and LED decorations; both for use at Christmas and on the patio in summer. Those that make these changes in a short period of time, often report that they can notice the difference on their power bill; this is an indicator that the actual power usage savings is great enough that they can readily notice it.

When considering the amount of energy used to light up a marque and then the potential energy use savings by switching that marque to an LED system, the numbers are bigger and more satisfying than the numbers in a single family residence due to the sheer number of light bulbs involved. But, as a number of different, individual residences all switch to energy saving CFLs, LEDs, solar lights, and take up additional power savings activities the savings can be tremendous. For example, within the past two years the State of California determined that 10% of all of their electricity usage is being utilized by TVs; both business and personal. Sure, a number of those TVs are probably located in bars, taverns, lobbies, and clubs. But, my guess is that a far larger percentage of them are in private residences.

There is a lot of collective energy savings potential within private residences. On the other hand, baseball fields that are brighter at night than during the day, large marques, and places like the Vegas Strip do make one ask about energy consumption.

how to power a remote cabin with no wiring by means of wind turbine only?

Q. there are no transmission lines in the vicinity so power can't be brought in, and even if it did it would be far too expensive. So how wind in conjuction with solar power the cabin? is that even possible?

Answer
Hey Timewaster, we live in a solar and wind powered cabin now, so yes, it's possible. When you say remote cabin, it's a little like asking, "How much gas does a car use?" Your answer would start hitting on subjects like miles per gallon, total miles, vehicle weight, and stuff that a non car driver would not understand. A remote cabin might have a few lights, or a deep freezer, the difference in power needs is very dramatic, even if the two cabins were the same size. So usage is very key, but not easy to determine if you are not accustomed to doing that sort of thing. People like us have a curse, we have to know where each electron goes in our home, we know when the sun came up last August, and how much wind we got in December two years ago. When you have a finite amount of electricity to work with, you have to work with it. Leaving the TV on, or even owning one, becomes a double edge decision process.

Having said that, I'll give you some quick facts: Our "Cabin," is 1200 square feet, it has a home sized refrigerator, and a small deep freezer. We have Whirlpool laundry machines, a coffeemaker, microwave, two TV's and a stereo. Our usage is around 220 KWH per month, probably a fraction of what your home uses, but way more than a remote cabin should need. We use a 1.4 kw solar array, which takes up about the same area on the roof of our garage as a mid sized car might. Then there is a 900 watt wind turbine in the field, which is a bit larger than a ceiling fan, but probably too small to run our entire home. On real windy nights, it can barely do the job. In the end, we buy a little power from the power company most months, maybe five dollars worth. The good news is we can. In your remote cabin, that will not be an option. Not to fear, all you need is a generator to fill in the gaps, as most solar powered homes have them anyway. Our entire system cost around $13,000, and it runs just about everything in our home. Divide it over 20 years (240 months) and your electric bill is pretty reasonable.

If you can start small with that cabin, then do it. Just figure in minimum lighting, and at most, a very small apartment sized refrigerator that you unplug when you leave. For that, you could probably get by with a few hundred watts of solar power and no wind turbine. Turbines are really neat, they also live on a tall tower, are hard to install and maintain, make noise, and then they break down. My solar array has never had a drop of oil, never needed a screw turned on it, and it runs silently, and makes the same amount of power today it did 11 years ago. For a small system, I'd go with golf cart batteries, maybe 4 of them wired for 12 volts, and a 1500 watt inverter. Then do some DC lights, in particular LED light strips in a few key places, they are really efficient and work even if the battery is too low to fire up the inverter. Two or three hundred watts of solar panels, a charge controller (Xantrex C-40 for example) and the 4 batteries and inverter might set you back $1500, but if you learned how to hook it up, and did the work yourself, you would actually understand it and be in a good position to expand or build a larger system one day without someone selling you a bill of goods. It is pretty easy to add wind later if you want to. Southwest Windpower is a good example, they have a small 300 watt turbine that has its own internal regulator, just connect the two wires coming out of the bottom to the 12 volt battery and let it go. There are others, just get one that is designed for battery charging, not direct intertie to the utility grid. The 300 watt turbine costs about $600. Then when you are running short, you can run your generator, which can recharge the battery and run your small loads simultaneously, so you only have to run it an hour or two every few nights.

What you need to do is get educated first. Get a sub to Home Power Magazine, then try to get to one of the energy fairs listed in the mag. We did 12 years ago, and here we are today. Try not to put too much weight on sources like this, in my experience living with and teaching solar and wind in the local schools, I've found there are three things in vast supply, sun, wind and missinformation. Lots of people on these websites are happy to offer their expertise in this area, having never laid a hand on a wind turbine or solar panel. Get the mag, read the books and look up the sources, and you can learn from people like you and I that have already been there, not the ones reading the interesting articles in Popular Science. Take care Protime.....Rudydoo

hi, i just purchased an led tv from walmart. the screen is cracked and this is the second one we have gotten in this condition. of course, i still have the receipt and i paid in cash. the value is 500. if i come to return it with the receipt, can i still get my cash back? im so fed up with buying them and having them be broken.
no not a drug dealer! haha i got my check back from school so i needed a new tv!

Answer
Yes, you have a receipt, you paid cash, you get cash back.
They are going to raise an eyebrow.
Few people pay for things in CASH.
Especially $500.
Dress nicely so they don't think you are a drug dealer.

Can high contrast/backlight settings damage my LED TV?

Little Jim

Can setting the contrast/backlight settings on my LED TV to a high value damage it? Also what are the optimal settings for safe use?

Answer
High brightness will cause the back lights to wear out sooner. This is common with any LCD device (even your iPod). "Optimum" is somewhat subjective. The factory settings are OK for most home users.

im in the market for a new tv?

best led tv models 2013 image

Adam

My old Samsung crt tv went out so Im in the market for a new tv. Ive been doing allot of research on the technologies for a while now so I know the pros and cons of LED and plasma. Ive always liked the plasma screens better. I know they are some problems with burn in and IR but with it being 2013 now do you think the new sets are as bad with the burn in and IR. I would like to hear weather current plasma owners have burn in or IR issues with there sets, and if you would buy plasma again? What is the make and model tv you have? Ive also read that plasma seems to make a buzzing sound, is this true? Does breaking the screen in seem to help with the issues?
BTW the set will be used for mostly tv and movies but I do have a the Ps3 and the Xbox 360 that I play on occasion.

Answer
You can be glad your old CRT TV finally bit the dust. That was my excuse too, for buying a new flat screen TV. No regrets. Love it. Rule of thumb is, get the biggest TV you can. They tend to shrink over time. Not really, but it is a perception thing. When I first got my 27 inch CRT TV, I thought it was huge. But then after a while it did not seem that big. And now my current TV used to be huge, and now it is just "normal."

I'm not a TV expert. But I do not recommend the plasma TV's. They tend to consume more electricity than the others, and they tend to have a glossy surface. (The glossy surface is only a problem if you are in a room with other lights that may reflect off the surface, such as lights behind you.)

I think the question today is between LCD and LED. The LED TV's are thinner, but more expensive. Some say they are better. I have a 47 inch LCD by Philips, and I love it. I bought it before the LED TV's came out.

Now days, most TV's have internet capabilities, and that is really nice. My TV does not have it, but my Blue Ray player does have internet, and so I can watch things on my TV from the internet, such as YOU TUBE stuff. So I recommend you get a TV with internet capabilities. Wireless is better, of course. If you have Netflix, you can also access this directly to your TV.

Strongly recommend you invest in a sound system if you have not done so already The flat screen TV's today usually have horrible sound with tiny speakers that face the rear. I really love my 5.1 surround sound system. It is fabulous.

Is this lg 55in tv good for the price?

Mr Myagi

Any pros and cons? Can I watch 3d channels without the glasses? Thanks

http://www.walmart.com/ip/LG-55LM4600-55-1080p-120Hz-3D-LED-1.4-ultra-slim-HDTV/21693006#Specifications

Answer
That is the entry level 3D TV from the 2012 line up (the LM in the model number is the 2012 designation, LA is the 2013 lineup).

Overall - that series is considered to be a very decent TV. For that particular model...since it is the entry level...you will have somewhat less features than the higher up in the series (LM6200, LM6700, LM7600, LM8600, LM9600)...but overall it's not much different. This particular one does not have the Smart Features of the LM6200 and up...and it also doesn't have as good of processors as the LM7600 and up, but it should be decent enough for normal use.

As far as 3D and glasses are concerned. These TV's use passive 3D...meaning that (and this is in laymans terms) the picture is filtered in a way that when the glasses are put on...the left eye sees one picture and the right eye sees another...and your brain makes it 3D. Without glasses on...it will just look like an extremely out of focus picture.

As far as cons for this unit...there are 2:

1st (and this applies to a LOT of manufacturers and not just LG).
The 120Hz "Tru Motion Rate" is not the same thing as a 120Hz refresh rate. So - though it sort-of performs like a 120Hz TV...it really is a 60Hz panel. You will find this to be the case in most of the lesser expensive models from all manufacturers.

2nd:
Given that this is a left-over 2012 model...you are already starting out with 1 year old technology. Not saying that it's not good technology...but that there is already a newer model and any 2012 models are simply left-overs that didnt sell. You should expect to see a significant savings from the 2013 models. It's hard to price-compare an overstock model...since the major retailers who would normally carry these have already replaced them with 2013 models...so you can;t always rely on a quick google shopping search...as it's likely to come up with few results.

Overall though...$800 for a 55" 3D TV is not bad...so you certainly aren;t getting hosed at that price...but you just have to realize that it's marked down because it is in fact a 1 - 2 year old tv...even though its new.

It sounds like the tv is powering up correctly, but it does not display anything, and the sound does not come on either. remote powers up the unit, but will not shut it down. Lamps do not come on when powering up
the button on the front is red, and 3 of 4 LED's on the inside are green, the last one in the back is red

Is it something I can fix?

Answer
NOPE....I wouldn't even waste my time on that OLD TV set...

I hate that TV when it dies....

It's the Biggest EFF-ing nightmare to troubleshoot that Monstrosity of a TV set.....

Yes, sometimes a TV design can really hack off TV Techs....
And that's MY nighmare TV set.....

I just HATE the Shutdown circuit on that TV....
So, I generally follow the instructions on disabling it for troubleshooting, trouble shoot it...and spend HOURS isolating it....

I HATE that design !

But I still love Hitachi overall.....

Every manufacturer has built a Crap-TV set once in their lifetime....

SO...do you want to work on it yourself??
I don't.....

My HDMI is no longer displaying DVD play. What could be wrong?

Shannon

My DVD player has an HDMI cable hooked to my TV. It stopped displaying the show and only works on AV2 but it's in black and white. I have used a different HDMI cable cord. I have rebooted the machines. Sometimes it displays the picture for a few seconds then says "no signal" I have a 32 inche flat screen LED Sharp TV. I tried other HDMI 2,3, 4. The DVD still shows on the clock that the DVD is indeed playing. Very confused.

Answer
If this happens on all 4 HDMI ports then I would suspect the DVD player. To troubleshoot hook up the DVD to another TV to see if the problem stays with the DVD. Also, hook up something else to the Sharp via HDMI. This will determine if the issue is with the DVD or TV.

I have a 40 inch samsung LED TV, cable box, Wii, Xbox and blue ray player hooked up to it right now. I want to protect the unit from any voltage spikes due to brown outs, since its common in the summer when grids are at their peek use. Would it be safe to do?

Answer
Well if you want my opinion, the air conditioner is probably gonna be too much amp draw. But these new units have a circuit breaker built in to the ac plug, so it most likely won't hurt anything That would be my concern. The surge protector should do it's job! The AC in my opinion should have it's own outlet or a heavy duty cord rated above the AC amp draw!

I need help with generators/inverters?

John

I am looking for a generator/inverter that is safe to run inside (ex. a bus ride with no cigarette lighters) so it cant be gas powered. I also need it to power an xbox 360 and a small tv. any help?
ps. you can pick the size of the tv and tell me how many watts it is
thanks
Do you think this could power an xbox and a small tv?
http://www.vat19.com/dvds/power-dome-ex-400-watt-compact-generator.cfm?adid=youtube

Answer
You cannot have a generator then.

An Xbox360 draws around 200W. A smaller LED backlit TV (19-22") will draw 30 to 40W or so. You would get a 400W inverter. 300W transates to around 30A from the battery (counting conversion losses)

The hard part would be the batttery, which would be something substantial, and not cheap. If you want several hours playtime, you want a few hundred amp-hours of deep cycle SLA type battery.

My advice would be to find other entertianment.

When should I get in line on Black Friday?

Ryan

Hi, I want to get the 50 inch TV Walmart is offering for $288 at 8pm on Thanksgiving. When should I go to WalMart and get in line? My towns about 40,000 people if that matters. I was thinking about 3ish but I want some opinions. Thanks
Corbin Hoffman: That's not a real answer haha

Answer
The truth? If you buy that $288 TV set on Black Friday of 2013, you'll be in line on Black Friday of 2014 to buy a replacement for it. They just aren't worth wasting your time with as they don't last. The most common questions posted here about low priced sets reads something like this...

"My (enter cheapie TV brand here) LED television set's picture just went black, but I can still hear sound. What can I dooooooooo???? HEEEELPP!".

The answer is always "replace the set".

Bottom line, if you buy that set - YOU are the turkey! (LOL)

I have just purchased a sony bravia 40" led tv and have an older sony home theater system. I'm looking for the best way to get the sound from my tv to my sound system and would like to know if fiber optics is the best way or, if I should just get a high quality RCA cable... I would also like to know what the best cable to buy is. It's my first time actually having a tv with different output options.

Answer
If the distance between the TV and the receiver is less than 10 feet, don't worry too much about getting the best optical cable money can buy. The second cheapest will do the job. Unless you are using the built-in tuner with antenna for broadcast TV, I suggest you connect your cable or satellite tuner to the receiver instead of the TV. The TV only outputs Dolby Digital 2.0(stereo) from other sources via the optical output. The cable and satellite box will output full Dolby Digital surround when selected as output in their respective settings menus.

My computer is quite slow to play any good games. Thus, I wanted a PS3. It would also look on our big LED TV. My parents are always very reluctant to buy me any gaming stuff, smart phones, good computers.... Any suggestions on how I can ask them to buy me a PS3??
Also, I have saved up $800 to buy things in my holidays, but my parents don't want me to spend the money.
P.S. My family is financially stable and we are able to afford the PS3. There are no financial difficulties.

Please Help! :) Before my term break is over.

We just got a new 55 inch Samsung LED TV, and when I tried to play Call of Duty on it, I immediately noticed the slower response between the controller and the game itself. It is very frustrating so I've just stopped playing it until I find a way to fix it. I've tried plugging it in, and that didn't help. Any solutions?

Answer
This is called input lag. Basically your TV is delaying by some fraction of a second between when it receives the signal and when it displays the image, to apply various visual/processing effects intended to make the image better. Obviously when you're watching a movie or TV, no problem. But it's a big problem when you're gaming.

The first thing to do is check the manual and see if your TV has a game mode. Game mode essentially runs the TV without all the fancypants filtering effects, thus reducing the lag. Hopefully this will pretty much fix the problem for you.

Other things to try... An HDMI cable might help, as it's likely faster than a component. And if you don't have game mode, you could probably play with the settings and turn most of the effects off manually. Again, your TV has to take time to compute those effects, and that's what's causing your delay.

how can i take led tv to india from usa?

Q. I bought 55 inches LED TV recently. I would like to take it to India with me(planning to travel to india). Please suggest me the best way to carry it. Is it better to ship or will airlines allow me to carry this tv with me instead of one bag? How much does they charge in airlines and how much does they take if I ship? Answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
A bigger problem is the incompatibility of your set with the TV broadcast system in India. India uses the PAL system. North America uses the ATSC/NTSC system. Your TV won't receive local channels in India.

Also, the voltage mains there are 240v/50 hz. Your TV *might* be optionable for that voltage and line frequency--check your owner's guide. But as equipped for the U.S. market, it's set up for 110v/60 hz.

You might be better off returning your set for a refund if possible, and buying one locally in India. That also saves you the hassle and cost of transport, customs, etc.

Use a private company, thasts what I did in my house for ALL my televisions / my home theater. Not sure where you live but the company i used was dhdpros.com | Private companies will never rip you off and generally use the greatest technology. (my house uses a program called "Control 4" i can turn off my kids' bedroom lights / TVs from the basement.)

And also, the fire won't affect it. If you want a picture of my hearth room ill send you one.

What would parents do if they came home and found the TV screen broken?

Connor

Suppose parents came home from work, and they discovered that the TV screen was broken with glass all over the floor. Would they start asking questions? If so, how would they be able to prove that one of the kids broke it?

The TV in question was made in 2001, and has an old, antiquated glass tube (you know, the kind that needs a converter box in order to get anything on it) rather than a modern flat-panel LCD or LED. The TV is almost as old as I am, and I think it's definitely time for a new high-definition one. They don't cost that much anymore these days.

I would like to break it while no one else is home, and then when my parents come home, I will be away. I'm hoping that rather than asking questions, they will just say, "oops, looks like the TV's broken. Guess it's time for a new one.".

Answer
I would scream and not buy a new TV, and no I'm not stupid enough to think it just magically fell!

I heard that the price of OLED TV will come down after some time. Normal people like us can only wait for that time in order to afford it.

Answer
I don't agree with people predicting 5 to 10 years for OLED to come down to the price of a really good LCD or Plasma TV. Yes the first flat panel TVs were crazy expensive. The price of the first sets in 1997-98 were in 10k, 20k, just insane, and the image quality was horrid, and they weren't even HD. By 2005 or so, a really good plasma TV was about 3-4k give or take. That was only 7 years later.

Just 3 years ago, I kept reading that the first mass market OLEDs would be small, and very expensive. I also read that large sizes would be difficult to make. Sony made one for 2k but it was tiny, and not mass market. Now LG and Samsung announce that they are launching OLED, and it will drop in 2012, and it will be 55 inches. Also rumors keep floating around of a 10 thousand US dollar price point.

We all know everything gets better and cheaper, but everyone also forgets the faster part. If OLED launches this year, it will only take 3 years, 4 max for OLED to cost what a top notch LCD or Plasma TV does today. TV makers will stick to larger sizes to command higher prices and profit margins, but they cannot do it forever. by 2016 LCD and Plasma tech will be on the way out.

By 2020 I cannot imagine LCD would even exist, maybe only for rock bottom, budget stuff. Plasma could still be a niche market for those that might not like the 'look' of OLED. But let's be honest, plasma could be dead, and another new tech like Sony's crystal LED could be floating around.

Is this a good tv when it comes to technology?

Danny

I'm going to get a led 1080p 3d Sony bravia. I'm looking for a Sony bravia 3d tv at like 32 inch can you tell me if this is good when it comes to technology

Answer
It actually depends on which tv series are you buying from their line-up. When it comes to sony their series for 2012 include the HX, EX, BX series. Sony has announced 10 tv's for this year.
If you are looking for the best of sony's technology then the hx series is the one to go for as it is their top-of-the-line, but it is only available from 36 inch size and is going to cost a fortune.
The ex line up suits most of your needs as it has full HD led displays and ample older tech like the motionflow240 but all models lack 3d.
The bx series is the bottom-of-the-line series and has hd ready displays and almost none of the premim sony features.
Thats all from sony for this year. Their most noticeable upgrade compared to last year is the new x-reality engine which is mostly all about up scaling internet and low resolution content.
All things said I suggest you take a look at the samsung line up as well, simply because there is a ton to choose from, most are smart tv's and some of their smart tv's have "smart evolution kit" slot which upgrades the tv to new software without having to buy a brand new set. This would mean not just having the latest tech but also being future-proof.
Hope it helped :)

So anyhow I am not good with all this lightning and am now just thinking of spending some cash and maybe buying a Arcadia OT5 Freshwater 2x24W T5 with a suspension kit, as my Roma 90 has a strange frame on top so there's not much I can do as in lighting upgrades and its only running 2x t8's Hagen glo's at 15w each, so as I said I don't know much about lighting but I think I'm around 1.5wpg or less, and this upgrade would give me around 2.4 wpg if I'm working the wpg out correctly.

I'm still not sure if 2.4wpg is low light, but surely it has to better, only problem I don't know how high above the tank I'm meant to have it suspended and if the light would be beaming into my eyes when I'm watching tv as the tank is near the tv, or does the light go directly downwards to the tank...

So if anyone can let me know if this will improve plant growth a lot as I don't want to waste +£100 for something that won't do much, I would rather just buy 2 new t8 bulbs as mentioned in my other question...I'm currently running power glo and aqua glo but am thinking aqua glo with life glo would be better or 2x life glo would be better for my plants, but I don't want a dull tank where I cant see my fish colours.

I've spent hours of researching what I can do with my tank and it seems many people are in the same boat when it comes to the Fluval Roma's, so this seems the only route that don't evolve diy, or there was some 8w led strips off ebay for like £8 but I dout they will do much?
Also how do you work out if a aquarium has low-med-high lighting?

Answer
1. personally I like using a wood canopy to hide the light, not only so you don't see the top of the tank, but also so the light isn't so bright in the room

2. you will do better with more light intensity, so either 3-4 T8 bulbs, or 3 of the T5 would be best. 2 of the T5 is still a pretty low light tank, but probably acceptable for many plants

3. yes it will make the tank look and grow better to have the 2 T5 bulbs and the new fixture.

4. you suspend the lights just 6 inches or so above the tank, go with the recommendations from the manufacturer

5. the estimate for lighting tanks is up to about 5 watts per gallon, 1-2 watts is a low light tank, once you get over about 4 watts per gallon it becomes necessary to add co2 to take advantage of the additional light.

so, in conclusion, yes the new light will be better, but still not as intense as some planted tanks.
buy plants that grow well in your tank, and don't replace ones that don't do well.
have very few fish or very small fish only, and very little feeding and the tank will function a lot better.

Why do American teens seem more childish and overall dumber than Europeans?

Just visited a few countries (Russia Spain and Greece) and i noticed teens and those in their 20s are much more educated and sophisticated compared to their US counterparts. They seem to act like they are 30 but surprisingly are only 21. They dress elegant without gang tattoos or rocker look or skater look. Especially the women, they are very family oriented.

We coddle our kids... "Generation Zero" has raised kids with no boundaries and taught them that it doesn't matter if you succeed or fail, all that matters is that you showed up...

We require instant gratification of our wants and desires and expect them to be handed to us just for showing up.

People on welfare can afford LED/LCD 42 inch flat screen TV's and App-Phones then STILL b*tch that they "Deserve" more.

Our children have no boundaries, received no discipline, and grew up hearing that "The US is #1!" so they learn only the minimum needed to get through life, follow their silly little causes to fill the void left in their lives by having TOO MUCH prosperity and let the world turn to sh*t around them.

Education is pushed off with the mantra of "Bill Gates didn't go to college" and seeing the internet millionaires of the late 90's, early 2000's... We watch interviews with the 25 year old billionaire developers of facebook, youtube, etc. and think "If they can do it..." and expect to be thrown fists full of money for surfing the web and being creative.

We have reached the point where we either succeed or fail... we are the New-Rome.

Will we let our decadence and over-blown sense of superiority bring us down like they did? I hope not.

I have a travel trailer and would like to buy a generator for it.
-I only need to run a few of the small lights inside (probably 5 watts each)
-flat screen tv ( about 30")
-furnace ( propane )
-fridge can run off propane
I wont be using the AC ever

I just bought the trailer and it has a battery. The furnace ran for a few hours off the battery. Im not sure if the battery needs replacing or if I can just use the Gen to fuel the battery...

Im thinking about a honeywell 1000i

Answer
Do you actually need a generator? Most travel trailers only have a single battery mainly due to cost. And the battery that comes with it, and you replace with, is usually not a true deep cycle battery but is actually a hybrid. A Group24 marine battery is only rated for about 110Amph Hours, and you can discharge it down to about 60% before things begin to stop working. So, in warm weather, you have about 65 Amp Hours or so to use. In cold weather, capacity falls off as the temperature drops. This is the main reason why your furnace only runs for a few hours.

If your lights are the 'traditional' incandescent types, their wattage is actually closer to between 12-18 watts apiece and will draw 1 to 1.5 amps each. Unless your fridge has manual controls, it still requires battery power to work at a rate of about half an amp when actually burning propane. If your converter is an older 'linear' type (usually rated at 40amps or less), I can almost guarantee you that it is not capable of charging the battery like it needs to be (3 amp charge rate usually).

I would suggest that you look at a pair of golf cart batteries (wire in series for 12 volts) as they will have a significantly longer time between charges (around 3 times the time for a single Group 24/27) and can tolerate a lot of abuse if you keep them watered. Most trailer batteries are killed through neglect, and are usually too small to begin with. A pair of golf cart batteries (Costco / Sams Club) takes care of size. Upgrade your lighting to LED and your night time power consumption drops greatly. On a side note, I run my LED lighting circuits off a single Dewalt drill battery, 18 volts (doesn't get recharged) for *weeks* at a time. Fantastic efficiency! Install an inverter (inexpensive) to run the TV / VCR / Satellite / Laptop / small 120vac appliances. Use in conjunction with golf cart batteries.

Have your converter checked out, especially for voltage ripple. Upgrade yourself (not hard) if needed.

Make sure your car / pickup is able to send power back to the trailer so that its battery charges while driving. You would be surprised how easy the fuse blows under the hood when trailer connector is wet and you plug it in.

Install a 200 watt solar panel on the roof. Not only will it help shade the roof, but it will deliver around 50 Amp Hours (3 hour of sunlight, 15 Amp charge rate) into your batteries. If you haven't noticed, I am not a big fan of portable generators. Seems like more hidden hassles than they are worth.

If you do insist on getting a generator, look for a parallel feature. This allows you to use 2 inverter generators together as one for larger loads if needed. You can always add a second generator if needed. ECO throttle / mode is a necessity as this ensures that the generator is an inverter model and is safe for your electronics. Fuel consumption is also very meager. There are models that can run off propane directly (aftermarket mod), able to use extended-run gasoline tanks, and so whisper quiet they are exempt from quiet-time rules in state/national parks. Yet can still be stored in a toolbox or other small space.

Is my TV running in 120hz?

Augie C

I just bought a new Samsung TV that was advertised as 120hz, but when I go to my PS3's input, on top it says 1080 60p. Does that mean it is running in 60hz?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/46-class-45-9-10-diag--led-1080p-120hz-3d-hdtv/8346045.p?id=1218872211460&skuId=8346045&st=pcmcat193400050018_categoryid$abcat0101001&cp=1&lp=1

That is the TV.

Answer
The numbers that flash up tell you what the INPUT signal is like, not what the TV is running at.

Your TV takes the 60 frames of video per second from your PS3 and draws each one twice. This reduces motion blur and allows them to call it "120 hz".

The 120 hz is built into the physical decay of the panel and cannot be changed.

I have been looking primarily at Sony and Samsung and like the look of the frames on the high end models much better than the lower end, but don't want to pay to have the latest and greatest. Can i improve my crysis pc game frame rate when connected to my led tv?

speedyalla

actually my crysis game runs at only 24 fps when i play from my laptop at max settings and there is absolutely no problem with key response when i play at max settings but only the reduced frame rate.and when i connect to my old lcd tv the frame rate is still the same and no problem.but now when i came to know all about the motion interpolation feature that the led tvs have,i became happy.i use this automotion plus feature to watch my blurays.it is extremely smooth.so if i connect my laptop to the tv and and play the crysis game which is only running at 23fps and if i turn on the automotion plus feature, then i would surely be able to play the game at improved fps rite?
as far as i know, there are only certain times when some flaws appear in the picture due to interpolation, but thats not a problem,i can live with that

Answer
Motion interpolation isn't recommended for gaming. It does not actually increase your framerate, it only makes it seem like it by blending the frames together. This also increases input delay considerably, which is definitely not ideal for gaming.
It's better for movies because you're not actually "playing" the movie like a game - no form of input is needed.
