Hi! I am about to purchase a pc and i was wondering if using a high def LED TV would be a good alternative as opposed to using a traditional high def LED monitor. In my mind, using a TV for a pc monitor would be a better choice but the more i think about it, something in the back of my mind tells me hat its a case of something being too good to be true. Btw, both the TV and the monitor's brand is the same and the price is almost the same to the point that the difference price wise is negligable for me. Thanks!

Answer
Pros:
-simple to use
-can operate the screen with a remote
-can switch to tv whenever you like
-can use hdmi and most tvs have vga

Negatives:
-May be a bit warmer than actual pc screens
-slight eye strain

These are from experience. You should be fine using a tv as pc monitor

What's the difference between LED backlight LCD monitor and LCD monitors?

Zhir Makwa

are LED backlight monitors same as LED TV's and stuff,(is there a difference between LED backlight and LED)?
are LED backlight LCD monitors better than normal LCD's? which one shows a better picture?
Thanks!

Answer
An LED monitor (just like a LED TV) is a LCD that uses Light Emitting Diodes instead of fluorescent light bulbs for back lighting. LED uses less power and will provide a sharper, brighter, crisper picture longer than fluorescent will because a fluorescent bulb will dim over time (and occasionally start to develop an annoying flicker prior to failure) In addition LED's do not contain Mercury like a fluorescent bulb does so along with using less power, they are considered "greener" or more environmentally friendly.

What can we do for energy saving?

Abigail K

I know a lot about saving energy. Hybrids, the special light-bulbs, unplugging wires, turning off lights, and other stuff. But what else can we do to help our environment?

Answer
10 Ways to Save Energyâ¦.

1. Change a Light Bulb

Installing a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) is the quickest, easiest way to save energy -- and money. Unlike incandescents, CFLs convert most of the energy they use into light rather than heat.

Good for You: They consume about 75 percent less electricity and last up to 10 times longer (10,000 hours as opposed to 1,500). Replace one 75-watt incandescent bulb with a 25-watt CFL and save up to $83 over the life of the bulb.

2. Unplug Things That Glow

Anything that has an LED (light emitting diode) that glows even after you turn it off continues to draw power (that you pay for). Your TV, cell phone charger, and printer are likely culprits. Unplug the offenders from wall sockets and plug them into power strips instead. When you leave a room, flip the strip switch to cut the flow of electricity.

Good for You: Unplug appliances and electronics that glow and you could save $200 a year.

3. Recycle Your Electronics

Americans tossed out a whopping 5.5 billion pounds of electronics -- TVs, stereos, cell phones, and computers -- in 2005, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The result? Millions of pounds of chemicals and heavy metals ended up in the ground even though it's easier than ever to recycle electronics. The Consumer Electronics Association created mygreenelectronics.org to help people find a recycling resource in their area. The site also provides a list of electronics, from laptops to baby monitors, that are easier on the environment and your energy bill.

Good for You: The average American household has three cell phones stashed in a drawer. Sell unused cell phones to greenphone.com. You'll receive about $35, and the phones will be refurbished and resold. If 1 million people recycled one cathode-ray tube TV this year, we'd keep 4 million pounds of lead out of the ground.

4. Audit Your Energy

It's easier to save energy when you know exactly how much and where you're using it. Investing in a home audit takes a couple of hours and pays off with a list of things you can do to curb consumption. Find an auditor through your utility company (at low or no cost), or hire one ($450-$650). A list of auditors certified by the nonprofit Residential Energy Services Network, is at resnet.us (click on Consumer Information).

Good for You: On average, an energy audit shows how to save up to 30 percent on utility bills.

5. Support Local Farmers

If your food could talk, it would tell quite a tale. Typical grocery store produce travels nearly 1,500 miles before it ends up on your plate. All this traveling burns fossil fuels and results in carbon emissions -- a fancy term for pollution. Buying from local farmers means you're not only getting the freshest food possible, you're saving energy

6. Fix That Drip

When you next fill your water glass, think about this: We each use about 100 gallons a day, enough to fill 1,600 glasses. Household water consumption has increased by 200 percent since 1950, even though the population has grown by only 90 percent. As a result, more than 36 states are expected to face water shortages in the next six years. Stemming the flow is as easy as fixing a leaky faucet or toilet; a dripping faucet can waste up to 74 gallons a day, a leaking toilet up to 200 gallons a day.

Good for You: Repair a leaky toilet and you can save $30 a year, which may not sound like much until you realize it means 73,000 gallons.

7. Let Your Grass Grow

Spending less time tending to your lawn actually makes it greener -- in every sense of the word. Most grass species fare best when they're kept at least 2-1/2-inches tall. The length creates more surface area to absorb sunlight, which creates thicker turf and deeper roots, which means you won't need to water as often.

Good for You: Save money by letting grass clippings remain on your lawn; it adds nitrogen to the soil and discourages weed seeds from germinating. You'll need less fertilizer and herbicide. Plus, leaving clippings on lawns means less in landfills; in 2005 Americans disposed of more than 12 million tons of yard waste.

8. Look for the Label

When it's time to replace a household appliance, choose a product with an Energy Star label. Sponsored by the EPA and the Department of Energy, the Energy Star program rates products from light bulbs to kitchen appliances. Energy Star labels guarantee that products are energy-efficient. For example, a battery charger labeled with the Energy Star logo will use 35 percent less energy than a standard one. You may even be eligible for a tax credit when you purchase an Energy Star product. Information at energystar.gov.

Good for You: A household with Energy Star products uses about 30 percent less energy than the average household -- an annual savings of about $570.

9. Do Full Loads

Whenever you wash just a few clothes or dishes at a time rather than waiting for a full load to accumulate, you're wasting water, power, and money. The average American family of four washes about 540 loads of laundry a year, which consumes up to 21,000 gallons of water, and more than 150 loads of dishes, which uses about 1,500 gallons. Most of the energy consumed by washers goes toward heating the water -- about 90 percent in the clothes washer and 80 percent in the dishwasher. Combining half-loads, choosing short cycles, and using cold or warm rather than hot water in the clothes washer racks up savings.

Good for You: Wash two fewer loads of clothes and one fewer load of dishes a week and save up to 4,500 gallons of water a year.

10. Work the Critters

Your backyard ecosystem is as intricate as any wild patch of land, and it pays in many ways to enlist its creatures on your side. Birds eat many insects; they just need a water source and trees and shrubs for cover and nesting. Many insects are beautiful -- and beneficial. Ladybugs aren't just cute; they are voracious eaters of aphids.

Good for You: To understand which backyard insects are garden friends, visit garden.org and click on Pest Control Library for photos.

20 strategies for lowering your heating bills, saving resources, and helping to preserve the planetâ¦.

1. Wear appropriate winter clothing. Put on a sweater (and turn down the thermostat).

2. Harness the sun. Open south-facing window shades and drapes during the day and close them at night.

3. Flip a switch. Turn off the lights when you leave a room.

4. Give your computer a rest. Your computer's sleep mode (if activated) will let you power it down when sitting idle -- which can save $25 to $75 per year in energy costs. Or simply turn the computer and monitor off when they're not in use -- as well as the printer, copier, and fax machine.

5. Ditto with other equipment. Unplug all your electronic toys (TVs, DVD players, VCRs, cell-phone chargers) to keep them from using electricity when they're not in use.

6. Make your ceiling fan do the work. Most fans have a switch that lets you reverse the motor. The resulting updraft forces warm air near the ceiling down to where it can make you and your family feel more comfortable.

7. Stop air movement. Close the fireplace damper when it's not being used. Check your dryer vent cap to make sure it closes tightly when it's not being used. Use ventilating fans sparingly.

8. Plug up the big gaps. Seal cracks, especially around windows and doors, with caulk and weather stripping. Install storm windows.

9. Plug up the small gaps, too. Put foam insulators behind the faceplates for light switches and electrical outlets.

10. Add a barrier. Install or increase the amount of insulation, paying special attention to the attic and basement where the biggest gaps and cracks are lurking.

11. Maintain your equipment. Dirt and neglect are the most common causes of equipment failure. So clean or change the furnace filter once a month (or as often as recommended by the filter manufacturer).

12. Make informed choices. Call your local utility and ask what programs are available to encourage energy efficiency (such as rebates on new furnaces).

13. Get a professional opinion. Schedule a checkup of your heating system with a licensed contractor.

14. Install a programmable thermostat. Used properly, this little gadget can save you as much as $150 a year in energy costs. How? By scaling the temperature down when you're away and scaling it back up when you return.

15. Use less energy heating water. Set your water heater temperature to no more than 120 degrees.

16. Invest in new technology. Replace your refrigerator or water heater if either is more than 10 years old. Replace your heating and cooling system if it's old and inefficient. Buy energy-efficient windows and exterior doors. Over a period of years, the energy savings will help make up for the purchase prices.

17. Help lightbulbs last longer. Install dimmers in the kitchen and dining room -- it adds ambience while saving energy! Use sensors outside to turn lights on only when needed.

18. Get rid of lightbulbs altogether. Solar-powered outdoor fixtures provide electricity-free lighting.

19. Switch brands. Replace standard incandescent lightbulbs with energy-efficient ones. They cost a little more, but use less energy and last a lot longer.

20. Remove the guesswork. Buy Energy Star. More than 50 types of products (from lightbulbs to new houses) bear this label. It means you're buying the most energy-efficient products on the market.

What LED TV brand is the best right now?

skyin

Can I know full details? Like a consumer report...

As to why you think it is the best at the moment?

THANK YOU!

Answer
Hi skyin, LG WRman Greg here,

Each brand has their own strengths and weaknesses so it would be pointless to argue which one is the best as you don't specify your criteria. However, I will give some reasons why I think LG has some of the best models for LED TVs at the moment and let you decide for yourself. The LED TV from LG, particularly the LM-series, has the advanced IPS LED Plus panel that can deliver realistic and vibrant colors and contrast. The Local Dimming capability of the LG LED TV also creates greater contrast and range of colors. The built-in TruMotion feature of these TVs help to reduce any potential juddering images to create a smooth viewing experience in even the most action-packed sequences in games, movies or sport programs. And the Local Dimming function and the Picture Wizard functions will give you control of the picture quality so you can adjust the color and contrast in the TV to best suit you and your home environment. And if you are talking about 3D LED TV, the LM-series also boast some of the greatest features for 3D TV such as 3D Depth Control, 3D Sound Zooming and 2D to 3D Conversion. Together with these, there are many more innovations coming from LG in the year 2013 regarding LED TV.

LG WRman Greg out!

I am about to take the step to a flat HDTV. There is so much info out that it is confusing. For viewing from about 12 feet away, what size and type TV is best. I am interest in a good pix, high reliability and power economy? What to buy?

Answer
Hi Waryinve...!
I prefer LCD. If You want an ultra-thin TV â LCD TVs, especially LED-backlit
models, tend to be thinner than plasmas.
If You do a lot of daytime viewing in a room with windows lacking blinds,
curtains or drapes. An LCD's bright picture will be look better in bright light;
Get Samsung Lcd. It would be a best choiice.

Plot
Chuck Bartowski is in his twenties, living in Burbank, working as a computer expert in the Nerd Herd at his local Buy More with his best friend, Morgan Grimes. Chuck's sister Ellie and Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb are doctors. At the beginning of the series, Chuck receives an e-mail from Bryce Larkin, his former Stanford University roommate, who is now an apparently "rogue" CIA agent. When he opens it, the entire database of all the US government's secret informationâa neural supercomputer called the Intersectâis subliminally embedded into his brain. Both the NSA and the CIA want the intelligence returned to them and dispatch agents of their ownâColonel John Casey and Agent Sarah Walker âto retrieve the data.Since the information was stolen by Bryce and the government's copy is destroyed in his attempted escape, and since Chuck experiences "flashes" of information from the database activated by certain triggers around him, he must use the knowledge he now possesses to help the government thwart assassins and international terroristsâupending his previously uneventful life. In order to preserve their safety, Chuck must keep his newfound occupation a secret from his family and friends, forcing Casey and Walker to establish an uneasy alliance and secret identities; Walker poses as Chuck's girlfriend and takes a cover job at a local restaurant near the Buy More while Casey reluctantly goes undercover as part of the Buy More team.As the series progresses, it is revealed that rogue spies are engaged in a secret war with the legitimate intelligence community, and that Bryce stole the Intersect to keep the real rogue spies from capturing it. The rogue spies believe they can aid their cause by capturing the human Intersect or by building their own Intersect. The government, meanwhile, wishes to rebuild the Intersect. This would make the Intersect in Chuckâs head redundant, making him a national security risk, so Casey is secretly under orders to kill Chuck if and when he becomes redundant. However, the new Intersect is destroyed by Fulcrum, a rogue spy agency.Chucks father comes into the picture to be there for Ellie's wedding which brings up painful memories of childhood for Ellie and Chuck. Chucks father reveals himself to be a former CIA agent and creator of the Intersect, he is captured and forced to create the Intersect 2.0.A series of events leads Chuck to embed the new Intersect into his brain to keep it from being taken.Chuck, Sarah and Casey all face professional conflicts as they grow to respect each other and a genuine romantic interest develops between Chuck and Sarah. Chuckâs desire to maintain his close relationships and eventually return to a normal life is challenged by the dangers and growing responsibilities of his new secret life, and he gradually becomes a more competent, confident and willing spy.As of Season 3, Chuck has willingly decided to become a real spy, to Sarah's chagrin. Although he failed "spy school," his effectiveness in the field has led General Beckman to give him a second chance and reinstate him as a member of the team, where Daniel Shaw is introduced to encourage his development as an agent. Chuck must now learn to balance his emotions to control the Intersect, which is complicated by his lingering feelings for Sarah.Sarah and Shaw begin dating, but Shaw is turned by the Ring. In "Chuck Versus the American Hero" Chuck is officially inducted as an agent by General Beckman, and in the next episode, Chuck Versus the Other Guy, he makes his first kill, shooting Shaw in order to protect Sarah. By "Chuck Versus the Other Guy" Chuck and Sarah return to a long-delayed relationship. Chuck's best friend Morgan Grimes also becomes privy to Chuck's "spy secret" and is inducted into Chuck's "spy team"; John Casey receives orders from General Beckman to train him. In the finale of Season 3, Shaw is revealed to be alive and has downloaded the Intersect as well, and attempts to kill Sarah, Chuck and Casey, and compromise both the NSA and CIA. Chuck successfully thwarts this plan, although his father is killed and his sister finally discovers his double life. The side-effects from the Intersect cause Chuck to regain a childhood memory in which he learns that he accidentally downloaded an early copy of the Intersect into his brain when he was still a young child. The season ends with a retired Chuck discovering his father's secret spy base, dedicated to locating and protecting Chuck's mother and performing spywork that "governments are afraid to do."

Is there a big difference in picture in an LCD TV compared to an LED TV?

led tv no edge
on Compra SMART TV LED 32'' KDL-32EX655 SONY en emege electronica

Cort

Thinking about buying a new 32' tv 1080p maybe with 120hz but probably 60hz but anyways the LED TV's are like $200 more is that just because they are new or are they better?

Answer
The advice you're getting here is more theoretical than practical. The fact is that an "LED" TV is simply an LCD set that uses light emitting diodes for the backlight instead of a fluorescent lamp. Also, whether an "LED" set is dramatically thinner depends on whether it uses edge-lit backlighting or full matrix backlighting. The edge-lit sets are amazingly thin; the full matrix sets are more ordinary.

Your question asks if there is a "big" difference in the picture between the two, and the answer is no. A very good conventional LCD TV will give you a dazzling HD picture and so will almost any "LED" TV. If it has full matrix backlighting, the contrast will be better in specific areas of the screen, but again it's not a "big" difference from a conventional set.

Buy an "LED" TV with edge-lit backlighting if you want a very thin set, or with either type if you want the latest technology and a savings in power consumption. Otherwise, a top-of-the-line conventional LCD set may be the better value and will give you substantially the same quality picture.

What is the difference between edgelit led, backlit led and edgelit backlit led and Vizio TruLED TV?

Deacon Blu

LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, & Vizio are the only ones that I know of that make some kind of LED TV but they all use a different term when they mention the LED lighting.
Which is better?

Answer
Generally...the most expensive ones are the best!

Those are usually the backlit LED TVs(a.k.a. local dimming). They have the highest contrast ratios and best picture qualities! Edge lit LEDs have problems with back light uniformity and have lower contrast ratios!

Vizio's "TruLED" TVs are just their marketing words for backlit LED TVs! Their "RazorLED" TVs are their version of the Edge-lit LED TVs!

Basically...if the LED TV is super thin...it's an Edge-lit! If it's super expensive and not so thin...it's a back lit!

What is different between the Plasma TV, LCD TV screen, and which is better for home use?
Many Thanks

Answer
Well this answer could get very long if i try to describe both those technologies for you, so here;

Plasma: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_display
LCD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD

Both types have their positive and negative sides but Plasma is the best in terms of picture quality! They have the highest contrast ratio's(2,000,000:1 dynamic; 40,000:1 native) and the fastest refresh rates(600hz)! They are perfect for the living room and watching fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming. I own a Panasonic 42" Plasma TV and i absolutely love it! Great TV!

LCD's also have great picture quality, but still not as good as Plasma...even with the new LED backlit LCD's! LCD's are best for rooms with lots of ambient light do to the fact that Plasma's can have screen glare!

Answer
PROS http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/06/23/evolution.main/index.html
(CNN) -- In 1994, most people had to call the bank to check their balances. Or inquire in person, or wait for a paper statement to arrive in the mail. Baseball box scores were found in the newspaper. Weather forecasts came over the phone from the weather bureau, or on TV. Back then, most Americans still had to lick a stamp to send mail.

The World Wide Web has transformed the way people live, work and play. People can play travel agent and book all the elements of a vacation online. They can arrange for their bills to be paid automatically while they are gone. They can put a hold on mail delivery, find directions to tourist attractions and get a long-term weather forecast before they pack.

All kinds of information is available. People no longer have to consult medical practitioners to get an overview of what may be wrong with them. They can learn about medications and side effects. You can also get information about your pet and there are websites where an online vet technician will answer your questions right away.

There is access to the latest science information and journals. You can get the transcripts from Nova and other science TV programs.

You can get information for homework and tutorials on things that are important to you. For example, you can learn how to apply make-up or how to cook a recipe.

The Internet has created a global community. I can play chess with someone from Thailand and answer a Yahoo question for someone living in the Philippines. People can practice a foreign language on various forums.

CONS
Many of those online users are irked by spam -- unsolicited offers for everything from lower mortgage rates to pornography, pharmaceuticals and pitches to help a Nigerian launder millions of dollars.

Another e-mail problem is phishing, the fake e-mail that looks like it is from a legitimate source. The bogus e-mail is designed to get the reader to divulge personal information, often a credit card number.

Identity theft is perpetuated by obtaining online information about someone. That is a danger. Also, chat rooms have led to pedophiles having access to kids.

Another "con" is the amount of time kids spend playing games on the Internet instead of doing homework or getting exercise.

Or would it not make a difference considering there are always deals online?

What do you think?

Answer
There are so many makes and models out that the TV manufacturers are laying people off. There are too many sets available so there is no point to waiting.

The "Black Friday" deals are usually on lower end models - not the ones you might want for your main TV.

Go get the current issue of Consumers Reports where they do a quick best-of on a bunch of things including LCD and plasma televisons.

Since Smart Tv with 3D sea to be the latest, should I definitely go for 1 with this ? And is LED the best choice ? Someone is selling a mint LG 55 inch 3D LED TV WITH 5 PAIRS OF 3D GLASSES TV WAS BARELY USED ADULT OWNED for $900 . Think this is a good deal ? Thanks in Advance !

Answer
Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You are not going to find any LG brand tv being recommended. The lack of software for the 3D technology is limited. At this time there are only around 180 titles available in 3D and they are mainly animated movies from disney. I would not recommend buying a used tv. Panasonic is the most reliable tv in the market today. If you read yahoo questions all the time you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Forget 3D and get a smart tv, you can purchase a brand new one for the same price and with a factory warranty for a year. If you purchase one at Costco you will get one more year of warranty and have 90 days to return it. Hope this will help you out.

What is the average lifespan of an LED TV viewed under the following settings?

Sarah C

I watch a ton of Blu-Rays, HD cable and video games kn mh Samsung 46" LED TV. It is now over a year old. I run it about 4-5 hours a day, backlight set to 7, brightness at 40, contrast at 100, dark levels at darkest. These settings look outstanding with what I watch and play.
Based on these settings, what would the approx. lifespan of my TV be?

Answer
Most tv in the market today are rated at 60,000 to 100,000 hours before they go half it's brightness. This also depends on the brand that you get. Any bargain price tv are not very reliable. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic dominates the list with a Plasma tv. In November issue of the magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. I still have my first Pioneer Plasma tv model 4330 purchased in 2002 and have had no problems (purchase price was $6,400). Hope this will help you out.

Is there a delay while playing COD on larger televisions?

Ryan

I recently purchased a large 55 inch LED tv and while I'm quite happy with my purchase I am unhappy how there seems to be a delay when I'm ADS in COD while moving my joystick? Is anybksy else having these issues?

Answer
It's usually not due to the size of the TV but, more likely, the resolution and the resultant processing that takes place.

Try a couple of things...

- Most TVs now come with a "game mode". See if yours has one and if it does, enable it. This will reduce image processing and also optomize the settings for gaming.

- Make sure that your display resolution setting on the TV and the Xbox 360 match exactly. If your Xbox is set to 720p then set your TV to 720p. A lot of times, setting them to the native resolution of the TV works best. Yours may be either 720p or 1080p native. Having one set to 720p and the other set to 1080p will create lag because of video upscaling or downscaling.

I'm using a 22" LCD TV as a computer monitor at the moment, because i am unable to afford a monitor right now. It's a 22" LCD Toshiba TV, and i am using a HDMI to DVI cable, HDMI is in the TV, and the DVI is in my computer (Graphics card is GeForce GTX 650) and i have updated my Graphics cards drivers and all that, but when ever i select a resolution, every single resolution i select is quite blurry and just horrible to look at. Is there anything i can do to fix this?

Answer
No, there is no way you can fix it, your tv has a high response time which leaves ghost images, blurriness, fuzziness etc. I went through the same problem you are and will never use a tv again as a computer monitor. If the tv or pc monitor has any higher than a 2ms response time you get the problems with blurriness. 2ms response time is required for smooth motion playback motion and clear picture imaging.
Most lcd and led tvs are 8ms or higher. when you get ready to buy a monitor make sure to check the response time and buy one with a 2ms response.

I'll give you a link to a very good monitor it sells for $175 not including shipping charges on amazon. It would give you perfect picture with no ghosting. If you are saving up, I suggest you buy this monitor from amazon.

ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL- What is the difference between a 24" 1080p LED TV vs Monitor FOR USE AS A MONITOR?

I'm using this as my computer monitor. I have my own speakers and do not need to use TV speakers. I am just asking if theres any difference between the outputs of a 1080p LED TV vs 1080p LED Monitor? (ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL)

Answer
Better refresh, better response time (for the monitor)

Modern monitors are like that? 5ms or even 2ms response time? And monitors will do whatever refresh the video card says to do. :)

by kind i mean like PLASMA,LED,LCD,3D. Although i heard 3D tv aren't all they are supposed to be.

Answer
Best brand, Samsung. Best kind, depends. The top tv now is the Samsung D8000 series. Very expensive, top of the line LED, 3d. If you just want a good LCD, no 3d, check out the Samsung C630 line for 2010 if you can still find them, or the D630 line for 2011 if they've came out, if not, they will soon.

What should I look for when buying a new TV?

Im looking for a new tv around 32"-40". whats the best type that i should look for? what are the qualities that im looking for? what kind of brand is good and what should i be looking for in a TV. should i go plasma, LED, LCD or what. what kind of internal hard ware should i look for?

Answer
for 32" I would recommend Panasonic Plasma TV. But if you are looking to go for bigger TVs LCD or LED will do fine.
for 32" TVs 60Hz to 120Hz will be fine. But make sure to get minimum 60 Hz.

Also make sure to research on TV prices. Some stores have crazy price tags for TVs.

How to turn on SAP on a sharp LED tv?

best led tv guide image

ST3PHAN

I just bought a 60 inch sharp quattron led tv and the manual is a little different on how it explains the button controls for the remote so it doesn't say how to turn on the SAP. If anyone has this tv and knows where to turn the sap please let me know
thanks!

Answer
SAP on many TVs is enabled by a dedicated button on the remote. Look for one labeled AUDIO or MTS. If you find it, bring up the channel on which you want SAP, then press the button repeatedly. Different audio modes will appear on screen. Stop when SAP is displayed.

Note that you do this individually for each channel.

Also note the SAP is not available on every channel, nor on every provider's system.

If your remote doesn't have a button for the purpose, it may be an option in the audio sub-menu. Check your user's guide.

is there a way to hook my desktop up to my flat screen, led tv without a vga port?

Chris D

So I have a desktop computer not even a month old its a hp pavilion 500 series and it has no hdmi port. My tv has no vga port. Are there any hdmi to vga or hdmi to usb converters so I can use my tv as a computer screen? If so where would I find one? Best buy has nothing like it so i'm kind of not very hopeful....

Answer
You certainly can get a VGA to HDMI active converter (a passive adapter only changes pin arrangements, not signal types) since VGA is usually analog and HDMI is always digital. Something like this would work (note that VGA - Video Graphics Array - is video only, so audio is a separate consideration)(also, there are many others - this is one example):

http://www.amazon.com/Nexhi-HDMI-VGACONVERTER-Audio-HDMI-Converter/dp/B0015YWV1G

But every conversion degrades the signal - if you can avoid converters you'll have better image quality. Which brings up an alternative - since it's a desktop you can find a new video card fairly cheaply (unless you intend to do intensive gaming, which implies a better computer to start with - yours is designed for "everyday" use). This does involve opening the case but this is not difficult. Here's a video showing how it can be done in just a few minutes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YRlO-55njI and an article:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/indepth/computers/tips-solutions/how-connect-pc-hdmi-tv

What you want to do if you decide to replace the card is be sure to get one with HDMI Out. Here's is an example:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/EVGA-GeForce-210-512MB-DDR3-PCI-Express-Graphics-Card/15739049?action=product_interest&action_type=image&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVUB&visitor_id=47157453608&category=0%3A3944%3A3951%3A1073804%3A1043744&client_guid=868360aa-c37b-4bdb-b36a-ce67733be6ec&config_id=0&parent_item_id=15172289&guid=0eb904f2-7ca6-4552-be12-d9523ba054a3&bucket_id=000&findingMethod=p13n

There are many. many others - sometimes on sale for $10 - just be sure your PSU (power supply unit) is beefy enough to handle what you get (probably need 500 watts or so). These things are highly variable and I can't be specific without knowing more than the Series # - how is it configured? Hope this helps - Good luck!

What songs were preformed, but not written by the Jonas Brothers?

Chris T

I want to see if the Jonas Brothers have earned their fame or if they are just another band raised from nothing by Disney.

Answer
If you check on wiki, you find out that more than half of their songs were co-written by someone out of the...I hesitate to call them even band, they can't play omg.

Well, I dunno whether they were raised by Disney, but one thing is for sure - it's not their music that made them famous.

If a band is made famous by their music it means that they began in small clubs in their hometown and gradually got chance to play on bigger events. Such bands are able to have sold-out stadiums around the world after 40 years since the band was founded. Jonas Brothers aren't one of them. Examples of such bands: Queen, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Who, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest...etc...all of them really earned their fame. Most of them, except one, were never much loved by female kids aged 12-14...only Beatles...they definitely had much more female fans that JB do, and they had it much harder since there were no music TV stations in 60s..but do you girls know why they stopped touring? This is what a Beatles show looked like: the four entered the stage...the girls started to screeeeeeeeeeeam and shed tears so happy were they...OK nothing bad about this, but if they carry on thoughout the WHOLE show, well it's pretty annoying and since the Beatles were true band, they weren't interested in little wet pussies under the stage, but in people enjoying their music, not their looks...no one seemed to be interested in their music, so they quit...
Their aim was to express themselves musically and grow as musicians and composers...and they really did. If you look at their 1950s work in Hamburg's clubs, they were just above the level of JB in the beginning, but got much better there. When they returned they already had much experience, could play better and write better. And throughout the 1960s they were getting better in writing, wrote more complex harmonies and incorporated more chromatic into them. George was also fond of the Indian classical music (which is said to be the most complex music ever written) and they also moved to India. They changed from power-chord proto-punkers/rockers into some of the greatest rock composers to THIS DAY. What progress have JB made??

Gradually, the fact that they stopped touring weakened the bond between them and this was the main cause why they disbanded. JB clearly aren't moved by this. Well in fact there is nothing to appreciate about their music, but I'll elaborate this later.

Another strange fact:
They cheapest JB ticket (if we don't count parking tickets when you hear and see nothing) I was able to find costs around 80USD, but the prices go up higher to about 400USD and even higher for a front view at some shows that cost more that 1000USD...WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS??? HOW DARE THEY EVEN??
For the bands I went to see (Judas Priest+Kreyson, Helloween + Gamma Ray , Deep Purple, Uriah Heep+Sweet, Black Sabbath), all of which were legendary rock bands who defined the genres of rock music, the cheapest was Uriah Heep+Sweet gig (7USD-10USD) and the most expensive was Deep Purple or Judas Priest show (both about 40-60USD).
Are you sure that Jonas Brothers care about their fans?? The truth is they don't. If somebody's music comes from his heart, them the one wants people to hear it. JB clearly aren't much enthusiastic about letting people hear their music. Or why are the prices so high then? If they ever cared about you girls, they wouldn't be that high.

OK so now their music:
I've listened to bands which had some of the greatest rock lyricists (like Pete Townshend, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury...), but when I read a few by JB I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry.
Great singers yeah?? Have you ever heard anyone from these guys: Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, Roy Khan, James Brown, Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Kenny Rogers, Paul Rodgers, Bruce Dickinson, Matt Barlow, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Tate, Andrea Bocelli, Roger Daltrey, Michael Bolton, Michael Jackson, Howlin' Wolf, Jeff Buckley, Mark Boals, Rod Stewart and countless others...you've got a huge variety of genres, check some of them out and then compare to JB. You won't be able since it's impossible.
Guitar playing weeeell...I'm not sure whether the guy (his name?) can even be called a guitarist. I could teach any of their songs any of you girls in a matter of hours, maybe some even minutes. It takes weeks till you're able to play something by Queen or Led Zeppelin.
And it's always those 4-6 powerchords over and over and over again...so that you understand, it's the simpliest, very simpliest one can play on guitar, or one can use to write a song. Calling it a beginner exercise rather than a song would be more appropriate. Definitely. I know pretty well myself, since I'm a guitarists and can play more than 5 chords (maybe because my goal isn't fame & money?? Who knows...maybe it's caused by 'from the heart'-thing some girl mentioned in context to JB...could be that). But seriously, music 'from the heart' always progresses...if it doesn't, it can't be from the heart. That's a simple, albeit undeniable fact.

Let me ask you a question: Would you listen to them if they looked like these??
http://www.popmusicology.com/images/led-zeppelin-in-1968-robert-plant1.jpg
http://www.rockstar.it/img/ian_gillan.jpg
http://www.lavozperdida.com.es/picture_library/Blackmore.jpg
http://blog.ugo.com/images/uploads/Bruce-Dickinson.jpg

All of these guys, whatever is their occupation (vocals, bass, drums, guitars) are masters in what they do and influenced next generations of musicians around the globe. JB will never gain such a respect cuz you know, like I said, they can't play...that's a fact, not a matter of taste. A matter of taste would be their songs and lyrics. Like it - Y/N?? THat's a matter of taste...all I can say is that they're songs are laughably simple and dull and so are their lyrics, but you can still like them and I can't object...it's your business. But pleeeze stop these stupid ones like 'they're very talented', 'they're great singers', 'they're great players'...these are not a matter of taste, these require a musical ear and experience to judge...and I think I've got enough of both to clearly state that they're musically impotent.

So what made them famous??
Women's hormones did. Period. Would you still listen to them if...you know what. I guess not.
Led Zeppelin could be perhaps considered pretty ugly (I can't really judge, so you say girls...it's the first of the pictures), but still I know 16yo-20yo girls who love them (musically...I mean love their music). And the strange coincidence is that they're all intelligent....

I don't really have the clue, but if I had to choose between:
1, have earned their fame
2, they are just another band raised from nothing by Disney.
the latter seems much more probable, because of the facts I mentioned here. Yes, you can like them, love them, be obsessed, whatever. But I don't think that's enough to judge their musicianship.

If someone can't deal with simple facts, thanks in advance for all the thumbs-down.

Why does my TV run the First Time Installation everytime it starts up?

Michael

I own a Bush 24 Inch Full HD 1080p Freeview LED TV and everytime I turn it on, it will run me through the setup e.g Language, search for channels, etc. If anyone has experienced this too or knows how to stop it doing this, any advice will be grately appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
It could be one of several problems, first of all do you unplug or switch off at the mains? - if so dont do it. Next are you using the correct procedure when running the setup? - probably yes it's supposed to be foolproof, finally that means its an electrical fault either the memory isnt saving properly or if its a really nasty thing the backup battery is faulty. Either of those require a trip to the menders...

ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL- What is the difference between a 24" 1080p LED TV vs Monitor FOR USE AS A MONITOR?

enderw3000

I'm using this as my computer monitor. I have my own speakers and do not need to use TV speakers. I am just asking if theres any difference between the outputs of a 1080p LED TV vs 1080p LED Monitor? (ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL)

Answer
Better refresh, better response time (for the monitor)

Modern monitors are like that? 5ms or even 2ms response time? And monitors will do whatever refresh the video card says to do. :)

-I want to spend under $800

Any advice on what to look for in a TV for gaming would be appreciated.

Please be very descriptive!

You should pick an Hi-Def television. If you really want

to research the best options and size you should use amazon's HDTV Simplified finder. It explains

everything about HDTV in layman terms. It also has a options to use

while you are shopping to make sure you get the best TV for your room and viewing pleasure.

TechiTeens judged tv's based on reliability,

price, and overall performance. Rated best to worst:

1. Vizio
2. Sony
3. sharp
4. mitsibushi
5. Toshiba
6. jvc
7. Philips
8. RCA
9. Daweoo

Trying to research a new TV for an older lady. Which brand should I look at? LED vs Plasma vs LCD, etc?

"Anyone El

Around 42" under $800.

Any help would be great.

Answer
The best you can get is LED (actually OLED is but out of your price range) ... something like this is name brand and well within your price range ...

http://www.google.com.au/products/catalog?hl=en&q=LED+TV&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355325884,d.aGc&bpcl=39967673&biw=1440&bih=785&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=16882652521284314010&sa=X&ei=pUTLUJDzFonImAW2vIDwBQ&ved=0CHkQ8wIwAQ

Let me add, LEDs do not die, LCD and plasma both die easily so her money is better spent on the one that will last her much longer the LED ... and these are well within your price range as I said ... please confirm what I am saying as those below me saying to get her a LCD are wrong , they are crap ... LED is what she would want her money spent on if she understood the differences...
