Hi guys..LED vs Plasma TV's?

ariel l

Hi people..I have doubts deciding between Plasma and LED...I got a dark room and I know that Plasmas are better for this environment but some people are still saying that BURN IN in plasmas still exists...I have bought three LED already and returned all of them..because Bad Uniformity screen.,..clouding and lights in the corner...this problem is just at night and with dark scenes BUT ITS VERY ANNOYING...AND I CAN'T STAND IT ! HAVE U GUYS EXPERIENCED BURN IN IN 2013 PLASMAS MODELS??? AND WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND??...THANKS...

Answer
Newer Plasma TV's have addressed the burn in problem with various improvements in phosphors, electronic orbiting, etc. Buy a good brand name, (such as Panasonic.) Most all now have a coated screen also, to help eliminate the screen reflections on the glass screen.. Very fast response time, about 600 hz. Also has an extremely wide viewing angle, no picture anomolies up to 170 degrees off center.! (Try that on an LED)..All LED and LCD TV's have a slow response time, causing problems with fast action and games. A higher refresh rate helps a little, but can cause other problems such as artifacts while watching movies.. Plasma is the way to go, but do not buy a cheap, off brand model.

best 32 inches led tv in india?

avi

I got confused after checking many TV Review Websites and finally want an expert advice regarding this. I want value for money product. My budget is 45,000 -/

Answer
Hi, I just bought a 32 inch LCD TV of Videocon two days ago just for Rs.24000. Let me give you some advice regarding LED and LCD TV's.

I saw LCD and LED TV's of all brands with all technical details.
My advice to you that don't buy LED TV. There is nothing available like original LED TV's in India. They are almost fake. Buying LED TV would be a total waste of money. You won't get the natural color appearance in LED TV and they usually are in the range of Rs.50000.

You should only go with the FULL HD 1080 LCD TV.

In LCD's also, let me tell you that you should go only with the LCD's of Videocon. No doubt, the LCD TV's of Samsung, Sansui and Sony are also very good, but they will charge you 10-20 thousand more for the same TV. Why give more money only for brand name when you are getting the same TV at a much lower cost.

So I would advice you to buy Videocon LCD TV if you want it low cost and best. Buy LCD of VRL series and not VLL series. I guarantee you 100% satisfaction, as I myself have bought it.

LED is a complete waste of money. Sony has taken back 1000 LED TV's back due to defects. Buying LED would be advisable only after 1-2 years.

Though if you want to buy LED anyway, you must only buy of Sony and no other company like Videocon. But I don't think LED's come in the range of 45000 Rs.

The best one in LCD would be Videocon VRL 32EBN or VRL32 FBM or VRL32GBM. I have bought EBN series.

Thanks, hope it helps you in buying.

Pawning 55in Samsung LED TV?

littlemiss

Desperate times call for desperate measures and I'm in need to pay my bills until my unemployment comes. I just pawned a smaller Samsung tv that was 32 in and got $120 for it. I'm wondering if anyone knows if pawn shops take large tvs and how much they might be willing to give me if I pawn it. Thanks!

Answer
they will take pretty much anything, but dont expect to get anything over 2/3 street value for it. if you dont come back for it, they have to make money off the money they gave you for it.
I would expect something like $1000 maybe without knowing how old it is, its condition, and its features.

Is this temp good for my GPU?

Q. Im planning on building a new pc soon but this one im just wondering about.
So about 1 month ago, I was playing PES 2013 with my bluetooth controller and my pc connected to my 1080p 42 inch LED 120 Hz. ( giving all these details to detect the problem)
Anyways, after about 3 hours, i tried going into the desktop, and my computer suddenly gave me the infamous blue screen. I immediately thought overheating, but I was not sure if it was because I was playing connected to my TV.
Anyways, my PC has not never gave me problems playing other games such as Skyrim, far cry 3, or Pes 2013 while playing on the monitor before. Also I've not gotten a problem like that since then.
Maybe it was just an error that day? Maybe it is a problem?
I dont really know, that is why im asking.
Also, my GPU is an PNY NVIDIA Geforce 550 Ti, and according to speccy, it runs at 38-45 C idle.
Is this normal? Maybe I should remove it and apply more thermal paste. on sunday I opened up my pc and I tried to clean it by blowing air into it, (no compressed air here).
Anyways help?
Ha well my gpu goes to around 70C+ when gaming.
Also my cpu is 23C on idle :/

Answer
I got a blue screen on my pc the other day and it was not because of overheating. it is usually just because of an error in the software. The temps that you are getting are completely normal. A graphics card is supposed to run at full load at about 60 degrees plus. Much higher than a CPU. A CPU is meant to run at about 40 degrees. Hope this helped! Good luck!

Can anyone offer advice on buying a LED tv?

AA

Hey all

I'm looking to by a new tv. Only specs I am 100% on are

Size: has to be 46 inch
Type: LED
Freq: 100hz or greater
Price: £700-1000

I've been looking around and the Samsung ue46d5000 seems to be the perfect choice but there seems to be very few reviews about.

I'm upgrading from a 40'' Sony, 1080p LCD, 50'' (Kdl40w2000). I'm guessing an upgrade based on the new specs i'm looking for will be worthwhile?

Would love some advice!

On another note, I did notice some 400hz tv's. Is that mainly for 3D or does it make a big difference in movies and games compared to 100hz?

Thanks in advance

Adam

Answer
I wouldnt buy a LED or 3D tv right now.

Plasma all the way-Only thing Plasma Starts at 42" and goes up
better and deeper blacks
wider off angle viewing
awesome for fast motion-600Hz refresh rate while the top LCDs/LEDs are only 240Hz(also LCDs use whats called interpolation so to play games with out lag you will have to turn the tv to 60Hz)-Best for gaming and sports watching
No burn in-on new plasmas-was a problem 5 years ago
they do use more power than the LCDs-But really if you cant afford the possible 3-5 bucks a month in and increase in your power bill-You do not need to be buying a big tv to begin with.
The short life people are talking about equals about 10-15 years of watching. really who wont buy a new tv in 10 freaking years???

Right now the top Plasmas are made by Panasonic(according to Cnet, consumer reports and a few home video mags). Right now 50" 1080p ( i own this one and the 65" version) at best buy USA around 899 for the 50" 720p is 599

LED tvs are just a LCD with a LED back light instead of Florissant tubes!!!!!!!!!!
LED tvs ARE JUST LCD with different backlighting they still suffer all the drawbacks of LCD but are just brighter

Is there a noticable quality difference in an lcd led tv?

nohamburge

is there a real difference between an lcd and a led lcd tv

Answer
Consumer Reports testing indicated the LED sets with full matrix backlighting and local dimming capability produced varying degrees of enhanced black levels and contrast. They also said that a set with poor local dimming can cause undesired effects in the picture that non-LED TVs don't have. The one full matrix LED they liked a lot was the Samsung UN46B8500.

Another difference: LED sets use less power than a set with fluorescent backlighting.

With edge-lit LED backlighting, the biggest difference you see appears to be the fact that the TV is very thin.

My impression: if you have a good LCD with fluorescent backlighting now and are happy with the picture, the extra cost of an LED-equipped set won't get you anything significantly better than what you already have.

Why do movies and shows look like B movies on my 55'inch HD LED tv?

Marie-

I do not understand it. On the TV, when we put movies, great movies, they look like B movies. It looks like it is an amateur person holding the camera and you can see the panning of the screen! help...someone help!

Answer
It's an ugly side effect of LCD TVs (even the ones with LED back lights) that use 120/240hz. If you want to search it on the web, it's called the 'soap opera effect' and it's nasty. It makes major motion pictures look like they were shot on a cheap camcorder. Some younger people like this and call it 3D looking, and say it looks so real or 'live' but I think it's horrible.

Hopefully the TV has an option to turn this off. If you can't there should be an option to reduce the effect. It might be labeled de judder, smooth motion or some other name, fish around in the picture options menu to find it. Turn that down. This is a side effect of LCD TVs using frame interpolation to create additional frames that never existed in the first place, in between the real frames. It's all done to combat a problem that LCD TVs have with a huge drop in resolution when there's motion. And LEDs does not cure this problem, it's also the reason plasma TVs just won't die, LCD still has too many band-aid issues.

So you can go plasma and avoid this, or if you want to stay LCD, do more research and find what TVs give you the ability to turn off interpolation and let you go to standard 60hz, or find out from other people on the forums, like AVS forums which TVs are better at masking this effect.

New 39 inch led tv and need some help!!?

groundzer0

So.... I needed a tv in room for college. Well i didnt need one but i play a lot of call of duty and fifa so i needed one. I was getting tired of playing on a computer moniter. So i went to bestbuy, walmart, target, and sears but everything except bestbuy seemed sketchy so i went to bestbuy and picked up a Toshiba 39inch led tv 1080p 60hz. So im a newbie in the tv game so i need some helpful hints on how to maintain my tv as long as possible.. I paid 440 after tax so i want my moneys worth...

Answer
Just keep it turned off when you're not using it. Set your console up to turn itself off after a modest period of inactivity, and your TV will probably turn itself off after the console does.

The life of an LCD TV(doesn't matter how it's lighted really) is measured in hours. If you turn it off when you're not using it, it will last that much longer.

Cleaning is usually with a damp lint free cloth. You can use cleaners like Windex, just don't spray the TV directly. Spray the cloth, then wipe.

Don't throw things at it. :)

Best 1080p TV Deal for under 800 dollars?

Jagamus Pr

So, I've been working on some spec to try to find a good deal on a TV. I have a few requirements, though...

- The TV must be 1080p (and actually display at 1920x1080 or 1920x1200)
- At least 42 inches, though bigger is better.
- As cheap as possible, but no sceptre brand unless they've gotten better since I bought my monitor.

Size, weight, type of TV, all not concerns. I have no preference on the technology. A 1080p projector, rear projection TV, LCD or Plasma TV would all work just as well for me.

My question is, where can I go to compare deals and browse TVs? I've tried best buy's website, walmart's website, newegg, circuit city, ABC Warehouse and others. Is there a de facto website to go to? Does anyone know of any phenomenally good deals? I'm not above used TVs (that work) from craigslist, etc or reliable refurbs/open box.

Answer
Phenomenally good deals = stolen goods. Don't go there.

Best Buy has good deals on their sale items. And they will price match major competitors. So they are a reasonable place to go. You could also check out J&R.

To meet your size, resolution, and price demands, you need to go Plasma. You're not going to find a decent LCD with those desired parameters. But you can find a really great Plasma 42" right at your budget limit.

The Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P42S1 42-Inch 1080p Plasma is listed at $790 on Amazon right now. I think that's about as good a price as you'll get on that. And that is a top flight HDTV through and through. You get all the Plasma advantages (perfect fast motion playback, vivid colors, true blacks, and deep contrast), you get Panasonic reliability (the top dog in Plasma right now), and a good price (to get a comparable quality LCD, you'd need an LED LCD with 120Hz refresh rate at least, which would be well north of $800).

Honestly I think that's the single best TV you can get for your specs. Other sets would require a compromise in quality in some sense or the other, OR, would require you up your budget.

What tv is good for gaming? (im looking for a good tv that an sbox 360's graphics are good on)?

Andrew Coo

Im looking for a tv under $800

Answer
your in luck. there are plenty of TVs out there under 800 dollars! As long as it 720p to 1080i/p Hi-Def, are all equally as good as the most expensive TVs. But be warned! do not get a plasma TV! they may be cheap but have a low lifespan and burn out easily and expensive to replace parts! LCD's are a perfect standard and affordable! LED TV are a bit more expensive and thiner but offer more colors and near the 800$ mark while LCDs are around 200$ to 600$ depending on brand and size. Also there isn't much difference between 780p and 1080i/p so don't let that turn you down or a major deciding factor! Also look into "Hertz aka Hz" in your tv which I think is refresh rate which makes your games "look" smoother which is nice but very little difference but still noticeable

how do i convince my wife i need a 46" LED Tv with 240 hz and 4,000,000-1 contrast ratio?

Q. Help, she's an accountant and I have big big problems!

Answer
You do it like this: "Dear, I was all set to buy a TV with a 240 hz refresh rate and a 4 meg dynamic contrast ratio for $3000, but then one of those experts on Yahoo Answers explained that the human eye can't tell the difference between 120 hz and 240 hz. Also, he said that advertised dynamic contrast ratios are mostly marketing exaggerations that have little meaning. So instead, I've decided to buy this much cheaper 120 hz set but with an even bigger 52 inch screen for only $2000. Since I've saved us a thousand bucks, here's your half. Have fun shopping, and I'll meet you at Costco."

Is an LED screen better than an LCD screen if the tvs have the same contrast ratio?

Q. Is an LED screen still better than an LCD screen in terms of colour contrast if the tvs have the same contrast ratio? Or does it make little difference, as I suspect? :) This would be really helpful as I am thinking of buying a new tv, thanks.

Answer
"LCD" and "LED" sets have the same screen, an array of liquid crystals. The difference between the two is the backlight, not the screen. Old LCD sets use a fluorescent lamp. Newer "LED" sets use a bank of light emitting diodes.

Forget contrast ratio in TV advertising claims. It's impossible to measure dynamic contrast ratio, so manufacturers can claim anything they want. The best way to judge contrast is to look at different sets operating as demonstrators in a TV store. Being "LED" doesn't automatically guarantee better contrast. You have to evaluate specific models, and there are some conventional LCDs that do better in professional lab testing than several "LED" sets.

what's the difference between these two LED tvs ?

Q. is there a difference between these two cuz there a slight change in their names and do u recommend buying it ?

tc number 2 : http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UA40D6000SMXXY/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl=

one has 200 cmr and the other 240cmr :/

Answer
Well one is a US model and one is an Austrailian model. In North America we are on a 60Hz system (hence 240 cmr) and in other countries they use 50Hz (hence the 200 cmr). I never recommend buying anything from the Chinese and Korean companies.

Is the Tv Samsung led 40 inch model: un40eh5000 good for video games?

Steve T

Answer
Samsung UN40EH5000 40-Inch 1080p 120 CMR LED HDTV - Black is labeled as LED; then you look at the picture and see a lot of fat for the usual Samsung LED depth. Make no mistake this is an LED TV. I got this for my bedroom to replace my 23 inch Samsung Syncmaster. I use this TV mostly for 1080 mp4 movies and blurays (I download what I want to watch instead of waiting for it on cable), and my Xbox and PS3.

CCFLs Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps used in traditional LCD ( LCD TV )
LCD display use LED backlighting name as LED ( LED TV )
* The LEDs can come in three forms > Dynamic RGB LEDs / White Edge-LEDs / A full-array of LEDS

LED-backlit LCD TVs differ from conventional CCFL-backlit LCD TVs with >
better colour display / pure dark and balk colour.
more brightness / contrast.
faster response time lower as 2ms ( depends of maker / models ) , work will 120 HZ refresh rate - provide much more smooth pictures - vely less motion blur.
better viewing angle
20-30% lower power consumption
in general . LED TV much more better " performance " pictures quality. except prices .
^^^^
but not all LED TV really better than LCD TV ! subject to maker / models .
those low prices / low quality " off brand " LED TV still unable to compare to quality name brand mid / hi end models LCD TV. also all LED TV come with entry level and hi end models.

does anyone make a backlit led lcd tv 60 inches or more?

bumpntrunk

Got a large living room and need a tv minimum 60 inches (preferably 65 inches) and want the superthin backlit led lcd tv that has come out but all I found are max 55 inch and that aint gonna cut it.
I understand its a newer technology but I would think if they already have those sizes available then it wouldnt be a big stretch to incorporate into product lineup across the board for all sizes

Answer
sony makes a 70 inch lcd tv, and to be honest, I can't tell the difference if the tv has lcd or not. But the picture quality is top notch. I got a Samsung 55inch lcd, and i'm happy with it. Can't wait for OLED to come out in a larger format.

Is a LED HDTV good to Buy?

JakeDaSnak

Im thinking about getting a LG LED HDTV with a 3 000 000:1 dynamic contrast ratio 120hz with 2 ms and 1080 p. Is this good for blu ray and gaming

Answer
LED TV (LCD-LED BACK-LIGHT ) is refine / improvement from normal LCD TV. is provide much better colour display , contrast ratio, 120 HZ / 2ms response time well cover the motion blur. smooth pictures for sports movies / gaming . an quality LED TV very close to Plasma , our eye will not getting any difference between LED / Plasma TV. ( of course, those low quality off brand LED TV is out ) .
LG manufactures quality / reliable TV.LG LED TV is more to new generation improve type of LED display, compare to the Leader Samsung LED TV, Samsung LED TV ahead LG about one year and need to " adjust-refine " the very first generation LED display panel. i should said LG LED TV also Sony / Sharp LED TV are equally quality as this moment. a little better compare to Samsung LED TV * except Samsung new 3D LED TV really use new LED display technology , very soon Samsung new models LED 2D TV will refine as good as other.
get it ! enjoy it .LG LED TV never go wrong.usually LG prices are more reasonable. but same quality / reliable , why not ?

Is a LED TV better than a LCD TV?

Charles H

Answer
An LED tv uses light
emitting diodes ad its source of light for the
television. An LED tv uses these diodes to
create a much more vibrant and colorful
image. The blacks are truly black (not dark
gray) and the colors are more realistic vs an
LCD tv. LED tvs can achieve a contrast ratio
of up to 500,000:1. They also in general
have a higher refresh rate which will help
when watching shows with motion such as
sports or movies.

cleaning a LED tv screen?

Thomas

What is the best solution to clean baby power off a LED screen without ruin it? I used the cloth that came with the set but unable to wipe it clean the little hand print all over the screen where little Picasso did his masterpiece. Any I idea?

Answer
A few days ago there was a question posted here from a TV owner who tried cleaning her LCD display with a commercial screen-cleaning chemical, like the Monster product suggested in another answer. The chemical in the can was defective and her screen was ruined.

There is a safe and effective way to clean a flatscreen display, and you can rely on it. See the answer in the Yahoo Question below.

Question about cleaning an led tv?

Answer

Gaming pc or 47'' 3d led tv with xbox 360?

Q. i have a ps3 already, but i could also get an amazing gaming pc

Answer
Go with the PC, because the Xbox is just an equivalent to the PS3. The PC will be good for games like Battlefield 3 and Arma 3 when they come out.

What should I consider when buying a TV for PC gaming?

Q. This is for my new man-cave. Make it count!

I know it has to be 1080p and probably LED .. but other than that what features should I look for?

Answer
Size. Sounds obvious but it's slightly different than picking a size for normal tv. The text on PCs is quite small so you will want a bigger tv. I know you can change the text size on the computer, but that makes things cramped. I have a gaming PC connected to a 50 inch TV sitting 2.5 metres away and I have to lean forward and strain my eyes to read text at 150% DPI. Depending on the size of your man cave, I'd recommend at least 60 inches.
Another thing is the frame rate (Measured in Hertz for TVs). Most TVs don't go higher than 60Hz because films are usually at 23fps with the occasional film at 60fps. TV is also broadcasted at 23fps. PCs on the other hand go as high as the GPU allows. Most PC screens will go at at least 100Hz. Games usually run at 60fps and many can get up to 120fps on high end PCs. So your TV should really be at least 100Hz.
Also, not really a problem now, but you should make sure the TV has the right plugs. Almost all TVs will have around 4 HDMI jacks, a VGA jack, and a Component jack. Sometimes DVI as well. Chances are your PC has HDMI but better safe than sorry.

What will a 1080p 120mhz Lcd tv look like with analog cable?

thornton

I need a new tv. There are no more tube tv's for sale anywhere. I went to Best Buy to get an LCD but they said it won't look any good with analog cable which is all I have and can afford right now. I know the picture won't look as good, but it would have to be as decent as a regular tube tv, right?

Answer
absolutely, your new lcd tv is equipped to give you the best picture no matter what you hook up to it. tube tvs are almost extinct. my guess is best buy wants to sell you something else. go with ur gut feeling i did a year ago before the digital tv signal came out and i used my regular antenna back then and my tv worked flawlessly and the picture was great. it may not be what every one out there is selling (HD) but i am sure regular cable should work for you. i hope this helps

Should i buy a gaming PC or a 1080P LCD TV?

Justin S

I havent been able to decide since today. I want both, but i only have enough money for one, but not the other.

I want a new gaming PC, because i enjoy playing my games on PC, but since theres only 1 PC and 3 people in the house, it is a nightmare to try and use it. My bro is constantly on there if he cant play his xbox.

But i want a LCD TV, because i've only got this really lame 14 inch in my room. No HD, its the CRT ones. It sucks for movies too.

The PC's i can find that meet my specs, they cost around £699-£999.

For the TV'S that meet my specs, i can find them for about £499-£899.

I can only buy one, but which would you choose?
in America, £499 - £899 would be about $899 - $1499

Answer
buy the pc, stick it in your bedroom, buy an additional hard drive and a tv card. put them both in your pc. you now have a pc with tv capabilities and games all in one in your room. then later on you can get a 21inch lcd hd ready tv/monitor and watch hd tv free on your pc along with play games in nice hd!!

Trying to plan out a time to buy this HDTV...?

Q. The HDTV I want is the 32" Vizio VIA XVT Razor LED LCD 1080p 120Hz HDTV. I love everything about this TV. Even the price. It's perfect for my room. I don't need anything big. Have a 50 inch TV in the living room, so I'm fine. I vaguely remember my friend telling me that when the new year starts (2012), they put all the old/current TVs on sale, to get rid of them, so they can get some new TVs on the shelves. Is this true?

Answer
