Is playstation 3d display worth it?

Lebron06

Is the playstation 3d display same as the 24 inch led t.v? I am going to use for a computer, xbox360, and a ps3. Is the display going to be good? Is it better than buying a led t. v. I am confused please help thx.

Answer
I dunno, but there's probably a reason why they're on clearance for half the price they were a year ago. But I hear it's a decent 3D TV, as long as you don't mind playing on a relatively small 24" screen. Durability and longevity could be a major issue.

What are the differences between the normal ps3 and the ps3 slim. Can we say that one is better than the other?

michalis_r

Also, if you know, Is there going to be a PS3 special edition of Final Fantasy XIII in europe, and how is it gonna look like? like the japanese one?
Also is their even the slightest change of the graphics?

Answer
Same as he said, power, efficiency, style, size etc. have changed
the thing is that i got the old style but wouldn't change it. yes it's a little heavier and bigger but the gloss finish goes with most LCD/LED TV except for some Bravia's (sony) will a rough finish, then i would get the rough slim line but power really isn't that much higher do to similar components.
The touch controls are more sleek compared to the old button style on the new slim.
The standard hard drive for the old style was at highest 80gb compared to the 250gb of the slim but i've seen a 1tb (terabyte) hard drive on ebay for £80-£100 which would make it 4 times bigger.
and on Failure, mine hasn't broke once and nor has any of my friends, all got old style except 1(xmas).
and no, they don't sell the old style new anymore but you could be lucky to find cheap clearance stock (which i would jump at the chance) but good second hand ones are everywhere.
but up2you so take your pick!
what is rubbish is that japan have an exclusive white version which looks so stylish and modern (light and bright too)

Is a plasma TV worth buying these days?

CrAzY_DaVe

I was looking at buying a 43 inch plasma TV for gaming and sports and was wondering if someone could clear up a few things for me.

I have quite a bright room and therefore i am worried that the glare from the glass might be unbearable. Could anyone shine any light on this? Do they have filters or something that help absorb them?

The second one is that most plasmas are not full HD and was wondering if anyone really notices the difference in them with a screen thats 43inches?

With this information, can anyone recommend a decent sized plasma with preferably full HD for under 400 quid?

There might be more questions edited in if i think of anymore.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
some people know NOTHING about plasma tv's forget about the answers who say led tv's they are speaking out of there bum holes

plasma tv do suffer from bad reflection in a bright sunny room, that is the only bad point there is to plasma tv, but if your thinking of hanging the tv on the wall get a bracket that tilts, that will help with the reflection

the only problem you have got is trying to get a plasma tv for under 400 quid,, that is not going to be easy if you said under £520 yeah no problem i would point you to this panasonic plasma tv

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-P42ST30B-42-inch-Internet-Ready-Freeview/dp/B004TFDTMS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1334166306&sr=8-3

but i have found this panasonic 42in plasma tv with freeview HD built in for under £400 the only problem is that the tv is 2010-2011 model

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-P42C3B-42-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B004L2KTMW/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1334166477&sr=1-7

are lcd or led tvs better?

iPwn

i like the led, my boyfriend likes the lcd. which is ultimately better? and if you can, please list pros and cons for both. thanks in advance.

Answer
first, led tv's are lcd panels with led lights.
lcd tv's are lcd panels with ccfl lighting.

led tv's use less energy because of the lighting system and give superior contrast ratio, pushing 3 million to 1 as opposed to an avg. 40k to 70k on a standard lcd, even the sony xbr9 lcd is only 100k to 1. that means darker darks and brighter brights on an led tv.

two types of led. edge lighting and full array. the samsung 6000 series is an edge lit tv. that makes it super slim, less than 2 inches almost. with this all your lights are pointing inwards. with that said to adjust the darkness, lets say middle of the tv, all the lights need to be dimmed.

second type is full array, size wise they are about as thick as a regular lcd because they have led lights across the entire back of the tv. is this better? i think so. you have better light control. the tv will only adjust a specific set of lights that need to be adjusted to control the darkness of a specific spot. not any extra ones. power wise, i'd say the same.

sure, edge lighting may have less lights, but they have to output more light to reach the center, whereas full array or full matrix lighting only has to travel a short distance from the back of the tv. both are amazing pictures regardless. dont be sold on the thickness of the tv, you will not know the difference when you're sitting infont of the thing 6 feet away. brand wise, most major ones make it. sharp, sony, lg, samsung are the big ones i know of off hand.

now your standard lcd tv's aren't bad, but not the latest and greatest. inferior lighting resulting in lower contrast ratio (that's big in my book since any big tv you buy will be full 1080p hd, and almost always 120hz nowadays). hooked up to a blu-ray, it'll be stunning. led's will look better. and everybody going green these days led's are picking up steam.

if you don't have a hd service from a company, or don't wach blu-rays wth an hdmi cable., and intend to hook up basic cable, get a standard lcd, as you will not be using the full potential of the led tv by any means. email me if you have any other questions or wanna know about cabling or the 120hz/240hz etc etc. =)

bottom line, led's are a better, newer technology, but do you want to spend the money on it.

ps. don't do a dlp like that guy says, yes, they can produce 1080p signals BUT! horrible viewing angle, have to be right infront of the tv,dead center to see the best picture, move to the side and it darkens out because of the screen. PLUS YOU HAVE TO CHANGE A BULB! every few years (2-4 with regular use), and those aren't cheap, averaging 200 bucks. yes you get a new tv when you change it, but it's an additional costs, lcd's last about 60k hours, led's are being said to last 100k to 120k hours, twice as long. dlps are a old technology. most stores don't even carry them anymore.

to the guy below.
not all led's are slim, just edge lighting ones. full array are still thick, about 4 inches, check the lg and sharp ones.

What is the best TV for me?

HiTMANOXO

Id mostly use it for xbox 360 n ps3 n some tv im lookin for 50-52" what would be the best for under 1500

Answer
Get a Plasma. You'll get vivid colors, true blacks, deep contrast. You'll get a near instantaneous response time (0.001ms). You'll get the best TV option you can in a TV of that size and with that budget.

People will tell you that you shouldn't because of burn-in. But get a Panasonic or Samsung and you're fine. They offer anti-image retention features above and beyond the advances in the technology. Plasma stopped with the burn-in issue years ago. But it can't shake the reputation.

If you are really drawn to LCDs, then at least make sure you get some premium features for a 50" set. You will notice the advantages of having them (or see the flaws without them). So focus on 1080p and 120Hz/240Hz. If possible aim for LED LCD, though that might be above your budget.

Right now at Best Buy,

Panasonic TC-P50G10 - $1,400 on sale reg $1,600
- perhaps the best 50" TV you can own.

Panasonic TC-P50S1 - $1,200 on sale, reg $1,400.
- very strong set, but gives up some contrast to the G10

Samsung PN50B650S1F - $1,300 on sale, reg $1,600
- a solid choice from Samsung

LCDs

Sharp Aquos LC52D85U - $1,300 reg $1,700
Sony KDL-52S5100 - $1,500 reg $1,800

Again, I still recommend the Plasma, especially with your budget. I think for an LCD you would need to go down a size so you could say get a better model Sony or Samsung. Or you would need to increase you budget a couple hundred bucks at least. But I don't think you'll find any LCD that can beat the G10 from Panasonic. I highly recommend checking that one out in a store.

I need a new TV! What type should I get?

Amanda B

So my CRT TV exploded the other day filling the house with smoke. It's gone now and we need a new one. We recycled the old one at Best Buy and while there we were looking at new ones. Just about every single TV there looked exactly the same (At least the ones in the two main isles). They're all 32 inch widescreen flat screen TVs and are black. They're all different brands though and different models and different prices. The prices ranged from about $400 to $800 and up. I'd really rather not pay that much for a new TV, where is a good place I can find a decent TV? Also if you know anything about the specs on LCD TVs, please explain them to me. I probably will not be getting a plasma TV due to it's weight or a LED tv due to their prices.

Answer
TV size matters. If you are looking at 37" or smaller, then you don't need to get hung up on all the high end tech specs. Most consumer and 'guru' guides will tell you that you just won't see the advantages of those features on sets under 40". If a model in your budget has a high end feature, hey great, it won't hurt you at all. But the guides just say, its not worth paying for, you don't get a return on the investment.

The tech specs are 1080p (vs 720p), 120Hz/240Hz (vs 60Hz), LED LCD (vs CCFL LCD), and Plasma (vs LCD). So if you're looking at 37" or smaller a CCFL LCD that is 720p and 60Hz will be absolutely fine for you.

You do want to stick with the better brands though. Its worth spending the money to get a decent model from a better brand. The cheaper brands just have to many issues in terms of image quality and kind of suspect long term reliability.

The big 3 you want to deal with in 37" or smaller are Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony. If you go larger then just Samsung and Sony (Panasonic moves to Plasma in larger sets). In all sizes of LCD you can also consider Sharp Aquos, LG, and Toshiba, as those 3 do make solid sets as well.

Best Buy is actually a good place to snag a TV from. The key is to just find a good sale. Your timing is just a bit off though. The Father's Day sales were huge and really good on some sets. Though there are constant sales on that are fairly respectable.

Right now at Best Buy,

Panasonic TC-L32X1 for $478 ($122 off reg price)
Samsung LN32B460 for $550 ($100 off reg price)
Sony KDL-32L5000 for $480 ($60 off reg price)

I think the Panasonic is the strongest of the lot. I really like its picture quality for an LCD that size. That is more personal taste though than anything else. But it being the cheapest of the 3 certainly would sway me there even further.

But any of those 3 would be really top tier options. I think any of those would provide you a very strong 32" set in both image quality and reliability.

Hisense vs Coby LED television?

Isidro

Im looking at either a Hisense 24 inch LED television or a Coby 19 inch LED television. I just want to get some input on the brands and I also read that for a LED its good to have 120hz or 240 hz? I really don't know what that is I will mostly be using the TV to watch sports and play video games. So if I could get some help on the hz that'd be great. Should I buy LCD or LED TV?

Steven Gia

I'm planning to buy one for PS3 gaming

Answer
The first difference that strikes me is the price. Currently LED televisions are about 50% more than an LCD tv. However the price gap has been narrowing and will continue to do so. An LED tv uses light emitting diodes ad its source of light for the television. An LED tv uses these diodes to create a much more vibrant and colorful image. The blacks are truly black (not dark gray) and the colors are more realistic vs an LCD tv. LED tvs can achieve a contrast ratio of up to 500,000:1. They also in general have a higher refresh rate which will help when watching shows with motion such as sports or movies.

The second major difference between LED and LCD televisions is the environmental effect. LCD televisions use mercury in the manufacturing process versus the LED tv which does not! Mercury is very bad for the environment. Mercury is also used in making solar cells but that is off topic. An LED hdtv will also use about 40% LESS power than the same size LCD tv. Power usage is the dark secret of all the new line of HDTVs. An LCD or plasma television cost between $10-15 per month to operate. That is quite high particularly if you have more than one. The tree hugger in me comes down firmly on the side of LED televisions.

The thickness and therefore the weight is the last major difference of LED vs LCD tvs. LED televisions are about one third the thickness of the same size LCD tv. Correspondingly, the weight is about half. This could come into play when deciding how to mount your new HDTV.

It is my belief that LED televisions are vastly superior to an LCD tv.

LED FACTS

State of the Art Picture Quality
About 40% Less Energy usage than a same sized LCD TV
Mercury Free and a VERY Thin Design
Currently LED TV's Cost about 20-30% more

LCD FACTS

Good Picture Quality, but Images may "burn" in Display
Energy Costs run Between $150-200 per year to operate an LCD
Mercury IS used in Manufacturing Process
Cost is the Cheaper of the Two Choices

Heres a tip: for PS3 gaming, I HIGHLY recommend plugging the ps3 into the tv via HDMI cable. It makes a huge difference (it makes everything brighter and clearer, so you get the full effect of the hdtv

Uma

I brought Samsung UN40B6000 LED TV from USA to India expecting it to work. I have brought an electricity converter that converts 220 volts to 110 volts. I have few questions regarding this.

2. Will the clarity of the video be as good as it should be?

3. In India TV's work on 220 volts electricity, if I buy Dish TV HD and connect the HDMI cable to Samsung TV that works on 110 volts, will there be any issue to the TV?

4. Do I really need to buy an PAL to NTSC converter to get this working with good picture quality?

We just fairly recently got an Phillips 42" LCD TV and in the manual it states, "Do not play video games for an excess of 90 minutes at a time otherwise shadowing could occur." Buying a LCD TV Soon. 40 inch 1080p
Is it necessary to have 120 ghz to run xbox 360 and PS3 games on it?
Or can I get away with a TV that has less ghz

Answer
# Buying a LCD TV Soon. 40 inch 1080p
# Is it necessary to have 120 hz to run xbox 360 and PS3 games on it?

As the other poster said, it's hz. That's cycles per second.

The important thing to remember, is that there is no source above 60hz. Both your 360 and PS3, will only output at 60 hz.

The TV it's self will fake those hz,

# Or can I get away with a TV that has less hz

I've play games on my 60 hz TV, many many times, without problems. Chances are your current TV is only 60 hz.

where can i get 32" 1080p television for about $450 to about $500?

Scott C

Answer
Depends on what type of TV

HD LCD usually only come with 720p and are the TVS that are in the middle of Definition.
I would recommend these types of TVS

The TV that you are looking for 32" at 1080p only come in a size 40" or up usually for 1080p or 1080i

Plasma's which are the cheapest in HD TVS types have 1080p but plasma screen's are usually never 32" they are usually 42" and up.

HD LED are the most expensive ranging from 1,200 to 3,600 for a 52" and Up However LED TVS are the ones that come in all shapes and sizes the smaller the screen the cheaper

In any case which ever TV you choose to buy you can buy it at any of my recommended stores:

Best Buy *****
Sears ****
Target ****
Wall mart ***
Kmart ***
Famsa **

Hope I helped.

Can I hang a LED TV on a wall mount above a floor heating vent?

Kevin

I want to hang a TV in my room, but it seems like the only available spot is above a heating vent that is on the floor. I want to hang the TV about 5-6 feet above the vent. Will that cause any problems to the TV? I believe it is a 26 inch Vizio LED.

Answer
At the height of 5 to 6 feet above the floor you should be fine. The vent is not constantly blowing and the room ambient temperature should be close to the temp coming from the vent (with in 5 deg).

If you find think it may cause problems you can mount a glass shelf about 6 inches under the TV to deflect the airflow from the register, and provides a place to place small what nots.

You can always place a vent deflector on the vent also.

In general, an "anchor" for mounting something on a wall is a sleeve that's forced into wallboard (sheetrock) that will accept the threads of a self-tapping screw. You normally cannot put a screw directly into sheetrock.

However, unless you have a really tiny TV (maybe 19 inches), you do ***NOT*** want to attach your wall mount frame to sheetrock! It should only be mounted onto the studs behind the wallboard. If you don't know what that means and how to successfully do it, then you need to get help installing the mount from an experienced handyman, electrician, or TV installer. Hanging a large TV on wallboard anchors is a near-guarantee that the the TV is going to come crashing down some day--soon.

Using LED tv as a computer monitor?

straight_s

In the next few days I might end up buying a 42 inch LED tv. The primary purpose of the tv will to be used as a tv for watching blu-rays, streaming netflix, etc. What I wanted to know if anybody has any experience with using a tv like this one as a monitor for their PC. I'm not a gamer and I don't generally do a lot of typing, more just for general web browsing, streaming videos, etc. I imagine I would have to get a wireless keyboard/mouse if I plan to keep the tv in the entertainment center. Any thoughts on this would be helpful. Pros and cons, things to watch out for, etc.
Hey bud. Good to see you here as well. I actually wasn't even in the market for a tv but I got a crazy good deal on a display model for like 10% of what it's worth, so the tv is already in my house. I hear you. I prob would have gone plasma, but the deal was just too good to pass up and it's working great so far. Better than the half ton CRT that I was watching. I'll check back in a day or so.

Answer
Hello Straight Shooter. Lol I must say its kind of weird seeing you outside of the pool section. You have helped me with a lot of my pool related questions, now I will return the favor.

I actually just bought myself a 60 inch plasma to use as a monitor and I have to say it is absolutely amazing.

I strongly recommend you get a plasma instead of LED. Plasma's are by nature faster than LEDs which means they act as better monitor. Compare the 4-8 ms time to plasma's .0001. Plasma offers better blacks which may not seem important however picture quality is determined by 2 things 1.Resolution 2.Color contrast (This is where the plasma shines.). Plasma's also cost less. LED still has a problem with motion blur (although it has improved.)

The only time I would not recommend getting a plasma is if your room is bright because you will have some glare. Screen burn is a non issue however during the first 100 hours you should try to break it in (Simply do this by watching movies/shows without static images in the corner (Like FOX news ESPN logos.).

Also you don't need to get a wireless keyboard or mouse just get an hdmi cable and connect it to your computer.

I wish I knew what your budget was but if you still want to go for LED I would recommend Sharp. Also try to get backlit instead of edge-lit backlit offers a better picture. Try to get one that has 120hz+.

If you want a plasma I would recommend getting a Panasonic or Samsung.

@Alan

The first day I bought my plasma I browsed the internet for 10 hours with the plasma set on torch mode. Naturally this led to image retention. I ran the screen burn protection and it was gone in less then a day. Keep in mind plasma's are most vulnerable within the first 100 hours.

How do you connect your 3d glasses (ssg-5100gb) that came w/ my 72" samsung LED F8000 2013 tv?

Lauren Fri

How do you connect your 3d glasses (ssg-5100gb) that came w/ my 72" samsung LED F8000 2013 tv? We followed all direction to activate glasses by putting battery chip + side up and holding top button down for 3 seconds. We already had the 3D movie playing before we even set up glasses. We tried the entire brand new set with each new battery & nothing? Is there anything were missing?

Answer
In order to get it to work the TV needs to be in 3d mode. You don't even need a 3d movie. Just hit the 3d button on the remote to turn on 3d. Then the glasses should turn on.

How much i need to pay as customs duty if i carry LG LED LCD TV 50'' smart, 3D to India from US?

Gangadhara

Cost of TV in US is ~$800.
After 2013-08-26, Indian govt amended a law that all flat panel TV's need to pay customes of 36.05% of actual indian rate of the same TV. Its very ambiguous by this news..below are my doubts

1.How Indian value of my TV calculated.
e.g
-i am taking a TV which was used one year in US
-If i am taking TV whose brand not found in India (my case is LG so there should not be issue)
- Indian TV's use PAL analog tuner but in US all TV's come with NTSC. how valuvation is done? i need to spend INR10000 more to buy good converter for this. I mean to say is that fair to calculate price directly to indian product.

2. If i stay in US more than 2 or 3 years and take used TV, how it will help me.

Can anyone say how much i need to pay as custom duty for my TV with above scenario.
There should some difference in calculating valuation on TV's from US and other Asia countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai.
TV's from US have lot of constraint like its comes with NTSC and works with 110 v.
Whereas TV's from Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai can be used directly in India without any converter.
@shana

There are few airlines which reject baggae on weight alone. in that case i can pay extra money to take it.
E.g: British airways reject baggage on Weight as well as Dimension. Though weight is less than BA guidelines its wont fit in dimension . so we cant take this in BA.
- Emirates reject baggage only on weight. But we need to pay extra money to take this to india in Emirates.

Answer
If you are more than 2 years in USA you can avail Transfer of Residence (TR), if you are planning to return back for good . Even if you avail TR benefit, it's not certain whether you will pay reduced duty or not.
If you have used TV, the value will reduce much more and if you have receipt to prove your case that would help.

With Emirates they allow it to carry if you combine two baggage to make 107 inches (One piece 62 and another 45 inches W + D + H).

Whats the difference between LED/LCD and a LED TV?

Justin

Are they same? Will an LED/LCD still save on the amount of power it uses? And will it still have the same picture quality? If they are different, what is a better TV in your opinion?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Led tv is better than a lcd tv. It uses less power and should last longer than a lcd tv.

Led tvs also have better picture that can be viewed from wider angle. if you hang a tv on a wall it can look like a photo negative if the angle is wrong. Look at a lcd tv from the side and you will know what i mean the picture looks good then looks bad a soon as you reach a certain angle to the tv. this is the same for height.

The led tvs have led lighting and they should last longer than the lcd tvs. they uses a lot less power than regular tv and plasma tvs. they use less than lcd tvs also.

Zenith 42 inch plasma tv ?

Douglas

Okay well I've looked at alot of tvs and I can't decide so I was wondering on reliability for sports and gaming. I have asked family and they like there plasma but some friends say that LCD is the way to go so I would like personal experience form someone who has owned both types and see what you say. Thanks in advance

Answer
You can count on me if you would like because I went through the same experience like you. I was suggested to buy a plasma TV three years ago and it would cost me HKD 30,000 but I decided not to go for it. Nearer the time, our govt promoted digital broadcasting and therefore I have to consider again buying a new TV. According to my research, the most modern technique is LED id TV. It is cheaper than some LCD TV for some brands. If between LED and LCD TV, LED saves more energy but id TV is on the popular side. Some TV model is compatible with LED with LCD and contains idTV technology but this cost one third of the price of a plasma TV. A common LED id TV nowadays is but half of the price. One thing of concerns is if your family have very elderly users then you will have to teach them how to use the remote control because this is modelled on the usages of computers. Therefore those old folks who have never or few experiences of new technologies might find it hard to watch the TV. You will have to spend time, perhaps again and again to get them use to the buttons and usages of the TV.

Using LG 32" LED TV as PC monitor?

Mark

We have an LG 32" LED tv with a resolution of 1920x1080

and im planning on using it as my PC monitor since my monitor got busted up.

are there any cons with using a TV as a PC monitor?

thanks 5 stars for the most detailed answer.

Answer
Generally, a TV manufacturer is 60Hz in the US and gamers prefer a higher refresh rate setting when possible. The lag time from a control input to screen reaction including the g-t-g and othe input lag is a little higher. That will vary by TV. A monitor is watching that more in its design. Also, the larger screen affects your comfortable viewing distance and angle. A TV would normally be further away in mounting, [adding: and set higher up], but that you may have control of. It is perfectly acceptable since the basic design is the same. They are both LCD panels.
It comes down to your own use and the specific TV and its setup versus your seating. If you are happy with it, it can be your permanent setup. The very early TVs design involved radiation frequencies as tube TVs and sitting close could cause damage. LCD panels are a simple filtered (color filters) light and you cannot damage your eyes by distance so it is just about a comfortable view. Screen resolution and its clarity makes a difference, and in 1080p in a 32" you might want to be only about 30 to 40 inches away from it, and mounting and setup is what it is all about.

How do LED monitors/tvs work?

Trinfinity

I understand that there millions of little pixels in a high resolution tv/monitor but what causes them to light up/change colors? How do we control the colors and such with digital code?

Answer
LED televisions are simply LCD televisions that use LEDs for backlighting instead of the usual cold cathode fluorescents.

LCD TVs produce a black and colored image by selectively filtering a white light. The light is provided by a series of light emitting diodes (LEDs) at the back of the screen. Millions of individual LCD shutters, arranged in a grid, open and close to allow a metered amount of the white light through. Each shutter is paired with a colored filter to remove all but the red, green or blue (RGB) portion of the light from the original white source. Each shutterâfilter pair forms a single sub-pixel. The sub-pixels are so small that when the display is viewed from even a short distance, the individual colors blend together to produce a single spot of color, a pixel. The shade of color is controlled by changing the relative intensity of the light passing through the sub-pixels.

which is the best TV, LED or LCD?

Answer
LED TV ( LCD-LED BACK LIGHT ) is refine and improvement from LCD TV ( LCD-CCFL BACK LIGHT ) . LED TV better in colour display / more brightness / contrast, better viewing angle / more smooth pictures / 40 % less energy - power consumption compare to LCD TV except much more in prices.
LCD TV general good in prices , affordable to every once .
However , Due to products quality - designs and parts use. not all LED TV are really better than LCD TV.
too many " off brand " budget brand LED TV in the market are low quality, don't reached LED TV quality except prices. Samsung / LG / Sony / Sharp / Panasonic / Toshiba great in LED and LCD TV.
remember , both LED / LCD TV come with full range of models - entry level / mid end / hi end models to meet consumers budget and requirement. please compare " apple and apple ". an low end LED TV will not provide Hi End LCD TV performance and pictures quality for sure.
LED TV better than LCD TV is based on " technically ' on paper - subject to maker quality , is also mean - budget master the " best ". all depends to what prices you paid for ? - brand / maker - models ( entry level / hi end models ) make great different.

Budget $500
Brand- Sony, samsung, lg

Answer
Ramy, Good answer (Except that sony is an LCD not LED )which the Op wants. The sony $ series is bottom of the sony line, not that thats bad but its LCD not a smart Tv which 99% of 2012 Tvs are all samsungs are Smart Tvs for 2012.Its ok to disagree Ramy but you have to know what your talking about before showing the guy a link for the cheapest Sony LCD made, with less features than other 2012 LEDs like movie support through USB,sony has only pics and songs no video.A big complaint on here when people try to hook up a hard drive to play movies and it doesn't recognize movie files. The future of tvs is connections like Cloud thats the big buzz word all pcs, Apples,& most new 2012 Tvs have some form of smart capabilities. And as usual Joe G is right again, yes there are TVs for 500 & under but youll have to sacrifice features or size to stay under 500 bucks.I paid 979.00 for a new 2012 Full 1080P 3D smart Tv Awesome features and picture quality its an amazing Tv a PN51E550 & a Panasonic 50 inch st50 both top rated tvs on top 10 tvs c-net reviews amazon.etc.The OP wants an LED and the only LEDs for under 500 are off brands Vizio, westinghouse, Emerson, etc or are samsung panasonic sony but the LEDs for those manufacturers are 32inch models. So one or the other.I would rather save a bit and get at least a mid range then get a bottom end set that will be lacking before you even turn it on.

What's a good soundbar for my 26 inch LED Tv?

highground

I just got the Vizio E260MV 26 inch LED tv for one of the rooms in my home. I want to purchase a soundbar or small powered speakers for it. I was looking at the VIZIO VSB200 soundbar, but it's too big at 39 inches. I am looking for something more suitable for a 26 inch tv and that uses an optical audio cable to connect. Something less than $200.

Answer
There are a bunch of sound bar reviews from this link. Unfortunately, sound bars typically are sized for 37-40" TVs and bigger. I think in each review, the author does list the bar's dimensions.

Screen problem with LG Led TV 55 inch?

Larhalt

hi! In the past few weeks I started to notice a division exactly at the center of my LG 55inch led tv, it's like a small variation on the brightness and contrast between the left and the right sides of the screen (I believe this might be because since the tv screen is so large maybe it is made of 2 separate screens, i get that) but its getting on my nerves and I think it might be some sort of malfunction.. sometimes it isn't noticeable while others it can be seen from miles away! I don't know if I'm explaining myself (sorry, english isn't my mother language)... do you know if this is a problem?? should I have the TV checked??

Answer
That is absolutely not normal, you dont say if it's under warranty,if so call LG for service repair. If not look up on the forums or google your issue.LG and LED have many common issues wuth backlight problems brightness pops level color uneven brightness etc.

You have either a lighting algorithm issue or an electronic board issue there are 3 boards on that TV and voltages should be checked.

Actually the whole set up should be tested and adjusted by a Professional.

Which one is better LED TV or LCD TV and why?

ilia lilo

Answer
LED TV ( LCD display use LED for back-light ) is much better than LCD TV. more rich color reproduction and better dark color display.is also well " cover / hide " away the " motion blur ".use 40 to 50 % less Energy than LCD TV.LED TV the only display technologies as this moment closer to Plasma display. ( OLED TV is not on the market yet. except Sony 11 inc OLED TV for show ) .
LED TV is LCD technologies RE-FINE and Improvement . it should be replace LCD TV in 5 to 8 years time.LED TV prices will be 30-40 % less in time to come. based on history. 13 inc LCD TV in 14 years ago is USD 1800 and 40 inc LCD TV cost more than USD 5000 around 2001 , first 42 inc Plasma TV cost around USD 6000 .
Best Pictures quality for big screen HD TV is Plasma .
LED TV perform 94 % Plasma pictures quality,( to human eye will not get the difference ) but cost much more.
LCD TV is " GOOD " because of full screen size from 2 inc to 108 inc and affordable prices for every once. there is standard enter level / mid and Hi End models to well-suited consumers need.

I'm looking for something similar to the devices we use to plug into laptops to receive wifi... So something fairly small and ideally powered by the usb port itself... IDK if television USBs supply the 12vdc that laptops do...... But I'd imagine so...

Netgear makes what you want, a CAT5 to WiFi converter. A USB WiFi adapter would have to be directly supported by the TV.

Answer
He pass bills and policies to help the bank industry from failing. Without these policies, the bank failed (because the residential mortgage crisis , soon the commercial will failed next) and cause the economy to fall into depression. These policies cause the U.S. to fall further into debt. Now the US is current owed 14 Trillion dollar ($14,000,000,000,000). Soon there will be more expenses to pay out, like medicare, US baby boomer is getting old, US at war with Libya, soon maybe Iran... What these does is it cost US to go further into debt. US have too many people in the military and government job, if you reduce them, people might go into social service program. If the government keep borrowing to pay for these expense, the interest itself already too large to pay it off.

It's not Obama fault because ex-president had led the US into these mess.

US dollar are losing it value and US economy is a "consumer" economy.

Hopefully, in 2012 the US can vote for a president who will put tougher policy to stop the war over sea, stop help big business, like the bank by buying up their worthless stock with future generation money and promise.

Do you research about Bailout or US economy on Youtube. Don't watch Fox, CNN, CNBC or any mainstream media because they own by big corporation who tend to sponsor politician by donating to the party they want to be elect.

Do you notice most stuff you watch on TV are kind of distract the younger generation from the real issue. Show like Jersey Shore, the Kardasian, American Idol....

Electricity consumption tips?

Dylan Sorr

Hey guys, any tips on saving on my electricity bill/to bring down my electricity consumption? Also, which are better; CFL or LED lightbulbs? I've also heard LED lightbulbs are extremely hot and much more expensive. Yes, I'm already in the habit of unplugging unused light fixtures and devices (and I've replaced nearly all of the incandescent lightbulbs with CFLs), and I'm thinking of getting some solar panels maybe.
At Spotty: If your going to save money, you have to consider solar panels, CFLs, etc... have high return investments when it comes to buying them.

Answer
Here's something that'll blow your mind: lights just don't use up that much electricity and don't cost very much. In particular the difference between CFLs and comparable LEDs is almost immeasurable. (Obviously LEDs cost a lot more up front but should last much longer -- those are the criteria to judge. Forget about electricity.) Nothing you do with lights will save you any significant amount of money.

You know what consumes most of your electricity? Air conditioning (#1), then probably the refrigerator, TV if you watch it a lot, maybe your computer if you use if hard and often, washer and dryer. Blow dryer if you use it much. For me, by far-far-far and away the primary determinant of my electric bill has always been AC in summer and heater in winter.

Not long ago I got a Kill-a-watt watt meter and invested a good deal of time measuring usage and crunching the numbers.

Things people talk about as "tips" but that simply don't make much of an impact on your bill: lights (unless you operate a football stadium); leaving electronics plugged in when off; leaving chargers plugged in, ceiling fans. Sorry to tell you, unplugging things consumes a lot of effort and saves you essentially nothing.

If you are looking to SAVE money then you certainly don't want to spend any on solar panels.

P.S. don;t believe me? Then by all means get a Kill-a-Watt and check it yourself.

*** Dylan, my point is that those things you are considering do NOT save significant amounts of money and do not pay for themselves. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Solar is a very very costly way to generate electricity. You will never save enough money on your electric bill to pay the cost of a solar panel. It's a losing proposition. CFLs probably do pay for themselves over time, but we're talking a small amount of money, spread out over years to pay for themselves. Next time you buy lunch at McDonalds or Taco Bell you'll spend more money in one lunch hour than you'll save over years of diligently using CFLs. If your goal overall is to save money, than keep your incandescent light bulbs, but eat beans instead of going to McDonalds.

What's the best HDTV brand for customer support/warranty?

California

I am researching HDTV's and have come across some reviews of brands that have bad customer support and broke on the customers after 4 or 5 years. I don't want to put $1,000 into a TV to have it break a year after the warranty ends. I'm wondering what brand would be best to go with since I'm concerned about things like that. I had initially wanted to buy a Vizio but that is one I've read bad things about. I heard good things about Sony's service but not sure about what they do after warranty. Thanks for any input!

Answer
I have a Samsung TV that is absolutely amazing. I have had it for a year with no issues, and whenever I had questions about features, or programming, Samsung's customer support was excellent. The live online chat was especially helpful, and unless you enjoy sitting on hold for hours, was much better and timelier than phone support.

I can't say I know much about my warranty, but all my previous TV's have been Samsung, and they have always lasted long. I have never had a TV "break" per say, but have had them become obsolete. I would recommend the new LED TV. My friend bought one, and besides the higher picture quality, his electricity usage from the TV is much lower than mine. Also, we accidentally dropped it while mounting it on the wall, and because it was so light it barely even left a mark on the TV.

Bigger hands down. Do NOT buy a 3D TV until the tech catches up with the world. Because 3D TVs with glasses are stupid an annoying and expensive. Buy a 55" + TV that is just LED and you will be golden.

in 2013 3D TV is overrated!

Answer
If you're thinking of buying one, my vote is to buy neither.

CLED looks like a logical improvement over the shortcomings of OLED, but it's brand new. With any brand-new technology, you don't know what the track record is because there isn't one. The track record on OLEDs, for example, isn't great--short panel life, for one thing. What unknown shortcomings are there in CLEDs? Only time will tell. Time will also drive down the price.

Which is the Best LED 32" TV?

Sanjai

I'm looking for a best LED 32" tv, please suggest the best LED and reason's if any for your suggestion.

Answer
So the best LED 32" tv would be the.....

Samsung 32" Class 1080p/120hz LED HDTV.

However, IF you ARE looking for a 32" that has good theater quality.
it will be hard because most 32" TV's are used for gaming or BIG monitors for computers.
So...speaking of that...you might want to go find a 40"+.
But by far, Samsung is probably the best TV makers in the market at the moment.

I would suggest obviously [1080p/120hz]setting for all the 32"LED's TV's you're looking for, whether it be a ~LG,Sony,Panasonic

what is aspect ratio for tv? & which do i choose?

hiei

16:9 or 4:3? I'm looking to replace my seemingly dieing tv with an even better one but know nothing about TV's, am looking for a 32 inch lcd hd tv with as much to offer as possible and need to know about aspect ration and which to choose.

Answer
I don't think they even MAKE LCD HD TVs in the old "Academy ratio" of 4:3. So that part's mooted. You definitely want 16:9. What you need to decide is LED, LCD or what, and how to get the best features for the money you're willing to spend.

Check the source the other guy listed, and use Consumer Reports or a similar buyer's guide -- your library may have it, or buy your own at your local bookstore.

Good luck! Getting new Major Appliances is exciting, and a little scary, but just do your research and you'll be fine.

Is there any square type LED tv?

jagannath

I mean LED TV's are very wide i want square type like CRT TV.

Answer
Ask for a TV with aspect ratio 4:3.
Widescreen TVs have 16:9 ratio.

But it's very hard to find 4:3 TVs these days.

I have a Saumsung LED TV 120hz, but the pictures always displays 60hz?

Mike K

I have check all the options and the only thing I can find is on 120hz. Is it just becuase U-Verse is in 60hz, or am I missing something.

Answer
The TV runs at 120hz no matter what. However...some TVs allow you to turn the 120hz feature off so that the TV runs at 60hz instead.

All sources that can go into a TV run at a max 60hz(50hz in Europe). Your TV is probably just displaying the incoming signal...not what hz it's running at!

Example: my TV is a 480hz Plasma. All signals coming into this TV are running at 60hz. My TV takes this 60hz and multiplies it 8 times and displays it at 480hz. A 120hz TV would take that same 60hz signal and multiply it 2 times to display it at 120hz. That's what the hz of a TV means.

Samsung TVs are well known to confuse people because they display the hz of the incoming signal on their menu pop-up. It's just telling you what the input signal is.

TV's Plasma? LCD? LED?

megan l

Which is better and why plasma lcd or led tvs?

Answer
LED is a just a form of LCD. What it does is allows the LCD to have better blacks, contrast, and colors. While not up to Plasma standards, its far beyond what normal LCD can do. But you pay a huge price premium for this feature. You can get a better plasma for less. Also, it doesn't solve the inherent motion blur problems of large sized LCDs.

LCD vs Plasma

LCD - is the everyman HDTV. It is cost effective, hence its popularity. It is also physically lighter than Plasma. It tends to draw less power than Plasmas as well (though good Plasmas are now competing with LCDs). It has a matte finish so is useful for rooms that have too much ambient light which can not be controlled. LCD whites are a bit brighter than Plasma whites (but how often do you crank your brightness to 100%). LCDs are considered better for gaming (but I don't think you'd be disappointed with gaming on a modern Plasma). LCDs are sharper in SD (think evening news instead of film); this isn't a good vs bad, its just a personal preference thing. LCDs also have a bit more muted colors; again this isn't good vs bad, its purely personal preference.

LCD technology has problems with fast motion though. That is why you see ones advertised with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates (100Hz and 200Hz in Europe). This does not come close to Plasma though. So they aren't as good for fast motion (sports and movies). The 240Hz ones are making good strides, but right now you're paying a HUGE premium for it.

LCDs are also not as strong with their ability to reproduce true blacks. Their blacks tend to be a bit grey and not a true black. LCDs with LED backlighting are coming out now though. These are finally starting to bring LCDs to the Plasma level in terms of blacks. However, like the 240Hz refresh rate, you must pay a large premium for this feature at the current time.

Plasma - they have better blacks (true black), contrast (greater ranges in blacks/whites so you get greys instead of clumps of black and white), and motion playback (their refresh rate is near instantaneous much like old CRTs were). Their overall image quality is better than that of an LCD. While prices on them are constantly dropping, they do demand a slight premium over LCDs of a similar category. The colors in Plasmas tend to have more "pop" to them; this isn't a good vs bad thing, its just personal preference. Also for SD viewing they are a bit "softer" (think more like film less like the evening news). This isn't a good vs bad thing, its personal preference. Most plasma owners get used to it and don't mind it.

Plasma's are glass though so are glossy. They can have reflection issues if you are in a room with lots of light that you can't control (you can't turn off the lights and you don't own any blinds). And good Plasma care would require you condition them. But its fairly simple to do. All you have to do is keep the brightness and contrast (picture) settings cranked way down for the first 100-200 hours, then optimize, and you'll have an amazing TV experience.

Plasma myth (1) - They experience burn-in. This is inaccurate, those days are gone. Just condition the gasses and then use it as normal and you're fine. Also, the better sets have built-in features to prevent this (on top of the technology just generally being better now than say 5 years ago).

Plasma myth (2) - They have short life spans. This is another inaccuracy. Most are now rated in the 60,000-100,000 hours range. At 8 hours a day 365 days a year that would mean a life of 20-30 years. So do you think you'll still want/own the same TV in 15 years, let alone 30?

Plasma myth (3) - They won't work in high altitude because of problems for the gasses. This is again no longer an issue. Current Plasmas can be purchased and used in mile high Denver, and above, so you'll be fine where ever you are (unless you're living in the Himalayas).

Plasma vs LCD - One important note though is TV size. In 42" and above you see and get the benefit of the Plasma advantages. But 40" and smaller and the benefits are diminishing. So if your needs are for a smaller television, LCD may be a wiser choice.

Plasma brands - Pioneer Kuro Elite is the best, followed by Pioneer Kuro. But these can cost as much as a small car. Panasonic Viera is the next best and is much more cost effective. The Vieras can give the Kuros a run for their money (they might not win, but they are no push over in quality). After that I would look to Samsung primarily as a Plasma option. There are also some LG models that have reviewed extremely well (but do your homework).

LCD brands - I would stick with Samsung, Sharp Aquos, and Sony (but only Sony if its on sale, otherwise it tends to be overpriced). Sony stopped manufacturing LCD panels, they now buy/use the same ones used in the Sharp Aquos sets. Samsung is a step above the rest if you go with the series 6 through 9 models. The series 4/5 are strong performers as well, but a bit better
