I think itâs better to shift on LED. Are you agreed with my friends?

Nitesh Bal

College friends are saying to change my LCD and instead of that, I should buy LED. What can be the solution dear?

Answer
Get plasma, it destroys LED/LCD in picture quality easily and are cheaper. You can get a GT25 or ST30 3d HD panasonic plasma at 42 inches for 1000 bucks and make your friends jealous as hell.

Look at Cnet's reviews Google best 3DTV or HDTV of 2011 and the top 5 are plasma's. Maybe 1 LED is in 6th place but its 3 grand.

Should I buy a Mitsubishi Tv?

Well should i buy a DLP or a hd lcd tv or wait for laservue to get out u can check http://www.believingisseeing.tv/ to tell me more stuff about it? I want to buy a Mitsubishi cause i bought a Mitsubishi TV at 2001 and it still works perfectly today and it is hd but it was EXPENSIVE i mean it so thats why i want to buy a mitsubishi.

Thank You

Answer
I would skip Mitsubishi for a HDTV.

I love my standard def Mitsu. They were the number 1 televisions available years ago. But when HDTV came out - they fell WAY behind:

- TV's would only accept 1080, not 720
- First DLP sets cost $9,999
- Had the "Promise" program which they never stood behind and screwed early adoptors.

You wont find any Mitisubishi HDTV on a recommended list in "Home Theater", "Perfect Vision", etc. They really dropped the ball/lost the market with their HD sets.

Go to the library and get the Dec issue of "Home Theater" magazine or the Jan issue of "The Perfect Vision". These have Editors Choice and Best of the Year articles which will tell you the make and models that are superior.

LASER

The early reviews have been poor. Only the person directly in front of the TV has a good image. Sit to the sides and the highly focused light misses you. The Organic LED screens actually have a superior image, but you can only get very small screen sizes so far.

Instead of bleeding-edge, go for an existing Plasma or 120 hz, high contrast ratio LCD or a Samsung DLP. These will actually be half-price compared to Laser/OLED and are in their third or fourth generation and are stable/mature.

What is a good gaming tv?

Chris Vale

I need a cheap but good gaming tv for PS3's

Answer
I would suggest a Sony Bravia HX series. I have one and it's totally awesome for gaming (Both 3D and 2D).

The HX series also won Editor's Choice awards and LED TV of the year from websites such as Cnet, Techradar, PCMag and TechReview.

If it's too expensive I suggest looking at the Sony Bravia BX series.

It also integrates with the PS3 the best because they're both made by Sony; for example you can use your Bravia Remote to controll Media in your Playstation.

What's the best type of HDTV for gaming out there?

led tv negatives
 on Flashing Led Circuit
led tv negatives image

edwnc

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this, I know that LCD and Plasma have been out for a while now, as well as DLP. Just recently I saw one of those brand new LED Tvs.

So...which of these would be my ideal choice? I would use it much like anyone else would (gaming, watching blu-ray movies, HD programming, etc.)

Which of these offers the best overall picture quality? What are the strengths and weaknesses with each of these TVs?

Thanks!

Answer
In terms of picture quality...Plasma is the best!

Plasma TV's = super high contrast ratios(2,000,000:1 dynamic; 40,000:1 native), giving you blackest blacks and more vivid and rich looking colors! Also have the fastest response times(.001ms) as well as fastest refresh rates(600hz), making them perfect for fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming. Currently...the only negative with today's Plasma's is energy consumption. On average uses the same as regular LCD's but uses 40% more then LED LCD's!

LED TV's = high contrast ratios(3,000,000:1 dynamic; 15,000:1 native). Close to Plasma's in pic quality(lower native contrast ratios)! However...response times(2ms) and refresh rates(240hz) still slower then Plasma's! The main negative with LED LCD's right now is cost! Very, very expensive compared to similar sized Plasma's and LCD's!

As for regular LCD's, they tend to work ok for games as long as they have very fast response times! However, they generally do not come close to Plasma's and LED's in black levels or color saturation! They tend to have more 'greyed' blacks and washed out colors!

DLP's on the other hand have very stunning pic qualities like LED's and Plasma's! However, they are very problematic and require new expensive lamps every couple thousand hours of use. Making them a bad long term investment!

Dollar for dollar...Plasma TV's are the best performing HDTV out their right now! Great picture qualities for an affordable price! http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/

How do I connect Sony S-master Amp with Surround Sound speakers to my Toshiba TV.?

Q. I know nothing about electronics. There is no cable box, just the one cable form the wire to the TV. The speakers are a few years old, so I might be missing some cables that would attach it to the TV. Thanks!

Answer
New tvs either Plasma, LCD or LED have an optical audio output which have to be connected to a receiver or a home theater in a box. It is a digital audio output with surround sound information. Speaker have a post to connect speaker wire to them it is a positive and a negative post, any 16 gauge wire will work. Check the amp to see if you have an optical audio input, if it is a 2 channel amplifier then you won't have an optical audio input, only 2 rca jacks for the left and right channel. Hope this will help you out.

32", 26" and/or 19". i sit from 8 to 10 feet from my 26" led TV and still see perfect. i would recommend 19" or 26" tv. any thing higher be a pain in the @$$ to adjust if u have a little space. and over all i recommend u getting a 26" or a 19" tv or any size between i would recommend. higher then 32" WILL take up a lot of space. but go for the 26". highly recommended. the best place to get a 26" is walmart.com, bestbuy.com and amazon.com. here is a tv i would recommend

How come young adults drinking alcohol is only a problem in the United States?

Tam

I live where the legal age is 19. Most 19 year olds are responsible when drinking here. But in America, everyone goes on and on about how the young adults can't handle their alcohol. This isn't a problem here.

Answer
We have created a culture of cheap, tasteless, and intoxicating drinks whose main purpose is to get drunk. We have lost our cultural roots to our families homelands where drinking is, for the most part, a daily part of life or an extra dish at meal time.

Our fathers would not only have a beer at dinner. We would see them get smashed drunk, we see parties on TV where people who are "having a good time" get smashed drunk. We promote beer and such as a party drink.

I am third generation American from Luxembourg. I would see my family enjoy wine and beer as if it was an apple or a roll accompaning dinner. Sure they would get drunk on few occasions, but it was not like they "would down a case of beer or a fifth of vodka" to have a good time.

In the early 1900's we had prohibition. This also created a culture of drink to get drunk fast so you dont get caught with the booze. This led to major binge drinking and gave alcohol a new look of drink to have fun with friends.

That is why I think we have such a problem.

i kno that it comes with 2 controllers, 250 gb harddrive, the game, etc.

what i want to kno is tht if i can get warranty on it incase it breaks and can sum1 plss answer when they are gonna stop selling them.

Answer
My Review:
Pre-ordered this bundle back in September, was worried at first about the release date shipping. This is my first release date purchase through Amazon. Received it at 10 am on release date...awesome. Now that we have that out of the way. This bundle is a great deal for first time Xbox users/purchasers. Comes with 2 controllers, this is great for a family purchase....no more children fighting over taking turns until you get to the store to purchase another controller. The 250 GB harddrive is great. I currently own 2 other 360's(one is mine, the other purchased for my wife) both 20gb. With all of the music, movies, and DLC I have had to constantly delete stuff that I have paid for just to make room for new games. This led me to purchase the 250GB harddrive, after transferring everything over I still have TONS of room to install all of my most played games. (For those of you new to 360's...this helps the games run smoother with less load times and it keeps the noise level down on the system). If you are a fan of the COD franchise or even new this 360 is great! The black 360 with the custom MW2 theme looks great. I have always thought about painting my other 360 black to make it look better in my entertainment center...black 58" tv, black surround sound system, black cable box, black modem, and lastly a black PS3. A White xbox stands out quite a bit amongst all of this equipment. I would highly recommend this purchase to people just starting out with the new gaming system or even hardcore 360 players who are just looking to expand the experience. I know this review is getting extensive but im just trying to cover everything....now on to the MW2 game. SIMPLY AMAZING! Looks great, sounds great, plays great. I have been into the COD franchise for quite a while, have been religiously playing COD 4 MW for over 2 years now and can see myself playing this one for another 2 as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME! Thanks for reading the review and happy gaming!

Currently the best Xbox 360 bundle out on the planet

Should I buy a Playstation 3?

NOLAsoccer

I am an XBOX owner, and wouldn't sell my XBOX ever! But I am looking into a PS3, I am getting a new LED TV, and want a blu ray player, which the PS3 has. Also, I REALLY want to play Uncharted and other PS3 exclusive games, and my friends tell me that some games are just flat out better on PS3. So what do you think should I get it

Answer
The exclusives are the pretty good reason to go for the PS3 plus there is free online and the blu ray dvd player so when you are getting a PS3 you wont be using it just for games... you would also get it as a 3d movie player. So I would recommend you to go for it, from my bookmarks here is a review from an owner Ps3 that would definitely help you on this decision:

And here you would be able to find the best selling bundle for the PS3:

?

is it possible to take a 19 inch tv as a carry on? Because I dont want to put it in the checked luggage in fear of it getting damaged. And do I have to pay duty taxes when I arrive in Mexico?

Answer
No, it will not fit in the overhead compartment. The TV will most likely be in a TV box, and that will take up too much space in the bin. The crew will make you check the item at the counter or at the gate. I would recommend shipping it via FedEx or UPS and insure it. If you transport it and it gets damaged, the airline will not take responsibility for it.

What everyday changes can I make to go GREEN? And lower my electric bill?

BKR

I really want to learn good ways of helping the environment and going green...
Also, I want to learn if any of these ways can help lessen my Electric Bill? Thanks! Oh yeah, and I like on Kauai, in Hawaii! We dont have too many recycling centers here either!

Answer
1. Switch to natural gas for cooking, heating, hot water and clothes drying. Electric heat sources waste more than 60% of the fuel used to generate the electricity.

2. Avoid "organic" produce. Organic farms waste land, use more energy for weed control and produce more food waste due to insect damage and the shorter shelf life of the product.

3. Plant a few deciduous trees on the south side of the house. The shade will reduce the workload on your air conditioner and they'll still let the sunlight through in wintertime.

4. Keep the windows clean during the winter- this will let in more sunlight to help warm the house.

5. Purchase a flat-screen TV and computer monitor. LCDs use far less power than CRTs.

6. Avoid buying products in glass bottles. Glass takes enormous amounts of energy to produce and transport.

7. Use LED or CF light bulbs during the summer- they produce less heat so the AC won't have to work as hard.

8. Check your tire pressures regularly. Under-inflated tires are the number one cause of wasted fuel.

Led is best right now. But for $200 it's going to be small maybe like 22 inch. If u can save another $300 til December. Sony is gonna be selling playstation tv which includes 3d, resistance 3, glasses & a hdmi cable, 24inch & it's a Sony Bravia. But if u can't wait or save shop around before u buy, so u can find a good deal.

What is the best 32" tv or gaming under £300?

moses

I would like to know what is the best gaming tv for my ps3. I would like a panisonic or samsung.

Answer
Well, it will most likely be an LCD or LED for that size. IF you want somewhat fair gaming, look for a TV with a refresh rate of at least 120 hz. preferably 240 hz. refresh rate, or you will have a lag/blurr on fast motion for both gaming and sports, etc. Only plasma is very fast with no refresh rate problems, but those TV's are usually 40 inches or more in size..

Aint it supposed to look good on new TVs? Is it because xbox does not have HD output? Will Play Station look better? Should I sell my Xbox?

Answer
If it's an Xbox 360 it should have a HDMI port. Your new TV will too. Usually can buy a decent gold plated HDMI cable for no more than £2/$2 on eBay. If it's an old Xbox and not a 360 then bite the bullet, pull your pants up, have a word with yourself and buy a decent games console!

Peter

Hey,

What is to today's date the best TV on the current market for watching sports and gaming PS3?

I want the best picture quality available, it doesn't matter whether it's a SmartTV or not, LCD, LED or plasma. Price is not a factor.

I was looking at either the new sony 4k TV, or the Samsung 75 SmartTV. But are there any better out there? And which of these two is the best?

PS: The bigger the screen the better. Thanks!

Answer
If you want the absolute best picture quality available right now either to with a sharp elite. Very expensive though. Or get a panasonic vt-50 plasma. However if you wait a few more months they are releasing OLED and 4k televisions that will basically be the best thing to ever touch home theater. Also panasonic is real easing the beyond reference plasmas which add a red phosphorous which makes your picture even better than the vt-50

What 50" plasma TV is best for watching sports?

Daniel G

I am looking for a 50" plasma TV which will mainly be used for watching sports. My research has led me to believe plasma will be better than LCD for sports. Looking at ratings and the actual TVs I have narrowed my choices down to the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U and the Samsung PN50A550. Any recommendations out of these or other models?

Answer
I don't understand what research leads people to the Samsung PN50A550. Have you seen this TV? I have and it is ghastly! It is the worse plasma TV on the market in terms of picture quality. The PN50A650 from Samsung is superior to the A550 if you want a Samsung. The A550 has no brightness, no contrast and very little color saturation. If this was the best offering in plasma, I could never advise a customer to buy plasma. But fortunately this is not true.

The Panasonic is the best of the best. CNET has listed the TH-50PZ800U as the best new TV of 2008. Better than the Pioneer plasma TVs. Better than the Samsung DLPs. Better than the best LCD TV from Samsung. If you are looking for an compromised picture quality from the most reliable TV manufacturer with the best customer service, then hands down Panasonic is the winner.

Does he still runs you of him? I had forgotten all about that until tonight. He got so much TV time I realized how much his yes-lock looks like Chris Benoit's cross face. Your thoughts? Do you think Daniel Bryan will be as successful as Chris Benoit was? If not, more? And please don't mention anything about Benoit's death, this question is about his wrestling abilities and his time with WWE.

Answer
Yes I do, I'm not sure why people stop making that comparison, he does use the Crossface, and the flying headbutt, I'm sure there are other moves he uses that Benoit used too!

The thing with Daniel Bryan, I could see him becoming more successful, this guy is comfortable on camera, comfortable on the mic, comfortable interacting with the crowd, WWE has a good wellness policy in place too, so there isn't any chance that Daniel Bryan is going to get hooked on steroids or any that bad stuff that Benoit was doing!

Wrestling wise, he is so much like Benoit, but Daniel Bryan really shows his personality a lot more, and seems to be more open to the public as a person, I don't think we will be seeing any shocking stories of him going crazy!

Benoit was such the quiet type, people didn't know what was going on with him, I think it took everyone by surprise what he did, I also think it led to WWE not giving him that full push that Daniel Bryan might get!

What computer video card do i need to run 3D on Samsung 3D HDTV 240hz?

Kev

I am getting a new 55" Samsung 3D HDTV 240hz 1080p LCD-LED television very soon.

My question is what video card for my computer am I going to need to run 3D games on that TV?

The video card I am using now is a ATI Radeon HD 4850
The price needs to be within $100-$400 USD

Answer
Details that would help would be what operating system that you plan to run. And what other specs you have for the system that you plan on using. I see that you are currently using an ATI card, so I would assume that you would want to have an ATI replacement card. I will also assume that you have enough room around your PCI slot to fit a dual slot card. Also power supply specs come in to play as well, especially where graphics are concerned. You want 600watt supply at the bare minimum. I would strongly suggest over 800watts and above to give you room to grow later.

Now you say you plan on running 3D games. That kinda narrows your list of possible choices to the more expensive end of the spectrum. Being able to play them and being able to play them well are two different things as I'm sure you know :P.

Requirements for HD3D Be sure to check that your TV is supported on this list. Also listed are the graphics cards that I recommended below. Go for the best that you can afford.
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/Pages/supported-hardware.aspx

An important note from that list is that you will also have to get additional hardware. (3D glasses and such). I couldn't find any on AMD's website. Researching further into it, it appears that AMD delegates the task of 3D hardware sourcing and compatibility to third party manufacturers. The other options force you to purchase a specific monitor and glasses.

Choices:

Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock) 2GB $499
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102887
A bit over your price range, but well worth it. Fastest card out at the moment

Then right beneath that you have the Radeon HD 5870

Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB $369
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102888

I chose that specific 5870 because of the memory. It's a 2GB card, beware of the prices there. Make sure that you are paying for the memory and not for an over clocked GPU on a 1GB card. Don't settle for less than 2GB. And don't pay for an overclocked card, any overclock that you would get is marginal and could be done for free yourself if you so choose.

Comparison chart of the two so you can see the differences and decide for yourself:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/162?vs=165

To stay in your price range, you would want to stay with the 5870 though.

Now with all this said... I must mention that standard refresh rate for 3D is currently 120Hz and not 240Hz.
http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv/120hz-240hz-60hz.html -- Some reading on the subject.

Overall, I'd say those two cards are your choices. And congrats on the new TV. But stick with the 2D games for now, as for 3D technology, ATI doesn't seem to be on the ball.

With the demand of TVs at the time, and they might try to compete with other TVs. The $200 raise might have been for Labor Day, or maybe it was after a sale that you missed.

Look online, you can usually find them for cheaper with decent shipping costs (Amazon, Newegg).

How do I connect my HDTV to local channels without a cable service?

Life Is Be

My tv is a Samsung 32" 1080p led tv. However I have looked everywhere for how to connect my tv to my city's local channels without a cable service.
These are the connections on my tv
http://m-pisces.bbystatic.com/image/BestBuy_US/images/products/4833/4833556cv2a.jpg;maxHeight=500;maxWidth=500;scaleUp=false

The ant in one looks like one I have in my apartment wall. Do I need that converter box? I thought that was for only older tvs. Do I need an antenna or a cable cord? Please help, I want to watch my local channels.

Answer
The wall outlet is for a paid cable service that you don't have. You *may* be able to get your local channels with a very good indoor antenna, but understand that indoor antennas don't work well (or at all) for many people. It depends on how far away you are from the TV transmitting towers and what's between you and them.

There are a lot of junky indoor antennas for sale that will mostly take your money and do little else. If (and only if) your location is suitable for an indoor antenna, the one to consider is the one in the first link below. If I had to use an indoor antenna, it's the only one I'd buy. It's not the cheapest you can find, but you definitely get what you pay for.

If you want a better prediction on what channels you should be able to get, edit your question with your Zip code (if you're in the U.S.). Or, you can do the research yourself at the 2nd link below.

Answer
I got a brand new 46" Sony Bravia 1080p LED TV at 120 Hz refresh rate for $805 shipping included off of Amazon about two months ago. Look that up and check out the "used" prices. There is an outlet store that is affiliated with Amazon that sells B-stock items, items with damaged original cartons, etc. (B-stock is refurbished, scratch and dent, factory returns, etc). The TV I got was in a plain cardboard carton instead of the Sony box. But, it was perfect and everything was there.

Is there a big difference in picture in an LCD TV compared to an LED TV?

Cort

Thinking about buying a new 32' tv 1080p maybe with 120hz but probably 60hz but anyways the LED TV's are like $200 more is that just because they are new or are they better?

Answer
The advice you're getting here is more theoretical than practical. The fact is that an "LED" TV is simply an LCD set that uses light emitting diodes for the backlight instead of a fluorescent lamp. Also, whether an "LED" set is dramatically thinner depends on whether it uses edge-lit backlighting or full matrix backlighting. The edge-lit sets are amazingly thin; the full matrix sets are more ordinary.

Your question asks if there is a "big" difference in the picture between the two, and the answer is no. A very good conventional LCD TV will give you a dazzling HD picture and so will almost any "LED" TV. If it has full matrix backlighting, the contrast will be better in specific areas of the screen, but again it's not a "big" difference from a conventional set.

Buy an "LED" TV with edge-lit backlighting if you want a very thin set, or with either type if you want the latest technology and a savings in power consumption. Otherwise, a top-of-the-line conventional LCD set may be the better value and will give you substantially the same quality picture.

I have a LED Samsung TV and I'm trying to use the apps and internet on it but I do not have the USB adapter to make it wireless connection. Since my router is located in another room, I can not hard wire it either. Is there possibly a way to use my macbook or windows based computer to feed internet to my TV, maybe by connecting it USB to USB or using an ethernet cable to connect them?

Answer
Forget wireless, bridging and the laptop. Ethernet over powerline is what you need.

EOP:
http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-XAVB5001-Powerline-500-Adapter/dp/B004DVEW8I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1316799561&sr=8-3

This way you get great speeds and don't have to run a wire + the single never drops.

Connect one to an outlet by the router and one by the tv. The power lines in your home become the wire.

@Sparky

To suggest having the laptop on 24/7 and the use of bridging is a very unorthodox and cumbersome solution that is very likely to cause problems.

It is only $20-25 more and requires no configuration (no passwords , no ssid) , will never drop, wired speeds , is not substitutable to noise or walls, provides 24/7 connectivity without the use of a laptop. I would say all of this is worth the $20.

How can I have internet access for my home and laptop?

nasdavis22

I'm pretty new to the whole lap top thing. I bought one because I'm taking online classes. I am already paying for internet at home and don't want to pay for the broadband access as well. I don't really know a whole lot about the "hot spot" thing, but I need to have access in all the rooms of my house, work, and library. Any suggestions?

Answer
Here's the low down on using your laptop to connect to any internet sources (home, office, or public places) without using wires.

Your recently purchased laptop should come with a "wifi receiver" built in. How you can tell is to look for an On/Off wifi switch on the side or back of your laptop. There should also be a small LED light near it to show that it's On or Off. Assuming you have this, your laptop should be ready for use with any internet sources (from home, at any wifi hotspot such as at a hotel, McDonald, Starbucks, etc...). If your laptop doesn't have this, then you'll need to buy a "USB wifi device" (costs around $20 max) to connect to your laptop USB port.

For connecting your laptop to any public places or at work, here's the steps:
1. Make sure your laptop wifi receiver is turned ON.
2. Wifi hotspots are free wireless internet for people to use.
The free ones are typically at McDonalds, some hotels (actually it's
not really free since you'll need to pay for the room to get it), and
near public areas such as airports, libraries, etc.... Your
laptop should automatically detect these and connect to them
behind the scene and all you'll need to do is open up your internet
browser and perform a simple registration and then surf the web.
In the cases where you have multiple connection choices, you may
want to configure your laptop wifi to the one with the strongest
signal strength so that you can get fast internet connections.

Another source for free wifi is your neighbor. He may have wireless
internet setup for his house and may not have secure it with a
password. So if you live near him, your laptop wifi should detect
his signal and can to connect to it which allows you free internet
as long as he doesn't turn off his internet or secure it with a pwd.

Some of the paid wifi hotspots area are Starbucks (which requires
a paid subscription to AT&T), Barnes and Nobles Bookstore (which
requires a paid subscription to T-Mobile), etc.... Naturally your
laptop won't be able to use the internet via these locations since it
will ask for a subscription number or ID.
3. To use your laptop with your home internet without wires, you will
need to
a. Make your internet connection at home wireless, if not already.
Whether you have a DSL internet or Cable internet at home,
if you see one small box (with phone lines then it's DSL or with
TV coax cable then it's cable) connected to another small box
(which are typically a wireless router) then you should already
be configured for wireless internet. If this is the case then your
laptop should be able to connect to it (which may require a
password - see the person setting it up for it so that you can
know it).
If it's not wireless, then you'll need to buy a wifi router from the
local electronics store such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc...
and install it with your internet source.

What's the difference between LCD, LED and Plasma televisions?

led tv looks fake
 on Alf Garnett
led tv looks fake image

Genesis

Answer
LCD (Liquid crystal Display) uses a solid florescent back light to light up individual pixels in different ratios between red, green, and blue to get your colors. The color black is achieved by blocking the light in a certain pixel, but the problem here is that you can never get true black with LCD screens because there is still a light on behind it making the color actually more of a charcoal gray.

LED tvs work the same way. That is why LED tvs are actually technically called LED-LCD tvs. They use one of two back lighting schemes, and they use LED lights instead of florescent. The first type is edge lighting which uses a light on the four edges of the screen to light all the pixels on your tv. In this type of lighting you still run into color contrast issues and your blacks are never truly black. The other type is called local dimming LED tvs which use a grid of LED lights behind the pixels. This is the best because certain LED lights or cluster of lights can be turned off for your black color while other lights remain on for your other colors. In local dimming LED tvs you get a far better contrast ratio and a better picture quality overall.

Plasma tvs work differently. Behind every pixel there is a chamber that houses the plasma gas and when that gas is excited it causes that pixel to light up. Depending on the combination of red, green, and blue depends on what color you see, and to achieve black the pixel is simply not illuminated at all. This means that your blacks are truly black and your contrast ratio on plasma's is far better then LCDs and about the same (if not better) then local dimming LED tvs.

The pros and cons to each LCD and Plasma are:

LCD Cons: Narrower viewing angle, less contrast, less vibrant colors, and most models use a slower refresh rate causing image ghosting at times.

Plasma Cons: Uses a glass screen so glare is a potential problem in well naturally lit rooms, screen burn can be a problem, they are heavier and not capable of taking much abuse. The life of a plasma is also significantly less than LCD and it uses more energy to run it.

LCD Pros: No glare problems really so they work in just about any room, they use less energy and LED-LCD tvs use even less. They are lighter and are capable of more wear and tear so they are better for commercial applications. Screen burn is not a problem. And the higher end LCDs have good picture quality and refresh rates.

Plasma Pros: Wider viewing angle so every seat in the house is a good seat. Better contrast and more vibrant colors for a better picture quality (In my opinion). High refresh rates so fast pace games and movies tend to look great on plasma's.

I hope that helps you. If I had a choice between the three I would probably go with plasma only because recording technology hasn't really caught up with what LED tvs can do. I often find that LED tvs make everything look fake, and I personally like the picture quality of plasma tvs, but that's just me.

I am not allowed to buy a costume, so I want something simple and easy to make or find at home. HELP!

Answer
Not knowing how old or young you are i.e. over 10 years but under 16, why not begin with say black tights and a black turtleneck. You can then add accessories in whatever way you like.

A scarf large enough to be a pareo add some costume jewelry and perhaps another scarf as a turban can create an Carribean feeling.

Black tights & black top led themselves to anything goth if you can find the customary black, white, red make up.

Black cat! All you'll need after your black tights & top is an eyebrow pencil for the whiskers and a pair of black or white gloves. Oh yes, you may have some issues creating a tail...but you could always be a Manx cat. If anyone you know has those fake acrylic nails and the glue, you've got claws or goth nails.

Anything you can use as a cape that won't look as if you are wearing a sheet or blanket? Lot's of demonic possibilities there.
Think about a favorite anything: Animal, food, movie or TV idol, anything/anyone. Use your basic palette of matching tights and top to create. It doesn't have to be black. Pink, blue, whatever matches and is appropriate to your theme. Pink Panther, Banana, Cereal Box, whatever.

Time to take stock of what is on hand at home and perhaps at an aunt's house. Just give it back promptly and undamaged.

If you are a boy, go to the closet. Try black slacks, white shirt and black tie. Remember the Blues Brothers? Borrow a similar coat, find a brief case, add shades and a borrowed hat and you're good to go.

It might not be that difficult to do Indiana Jones if you can find the leather-like jacket, hat and whip. Easy to say find a whip but ask around early if that's what you want. Or substitute another item which relates to the Indiana Jones theme.

TAKE INVENTORY of the closets now. Do it with a notebook. Stay away from clothing that could be accidently damaged or stained. Leave those items off your list. Does anyone have any scrap material around? Get permission to use it.

Make sure that you are comfortable physically and mentally with your decision.

Are you going to a party? Trick or Treating? Allow enough room to dress warmly if you're in a northern climate.

One last suggestion. Go online and look at Halloween costumes to get ideas of what you like so that you know what kind of items to be watching for when you do your inventory.

Once you take a deep breath and exhale, you'll be fine.

How can you fix a dark area on a LCD TV?

lcd tv dark spots image

Paul M

I own a Samsung LCD TV. Last year a dark spot appeared that is a vertical area about an inch wide and about 15 inches long. It wasn't so obvious at first but now it seems to be getting worse and worse. Is there anything that I can do to remedy this situation?

Answer
Sounds like the TV has a backlight bulb that is burned out!

LCD backlights are not user serviceable and you'll need to contact the manufacturer for assistance or take it in for repair.

Good luck!

Why is there a large dark spot in the middle of my TV when viewing images of certain colors?

americanfo

When viewing bright colors on my TV, specifically those of sunsets, or the sky, or anything with similar colors, there is a large dark spot in the middle of my TV. The strange thing about this dark spot, is that it's only visible when viewing certain colors. It's a Samsung LCD and about 3 and a half years old. It's been used pretty heavily. If you could tell me what my problem most likely is, and if fixing it would most likely be covered, it would be highly appreciated. It seems a bit early to be having a problem already.

Answer
I have the same problem.. My daughter cleaned our screen with an all purpose cleaner. You probably have moisture or liquid trapt inside. I'm pretty sure there isn't anyway of fixing it. It is SO annoying though.

What form of blu ray player should i get?

I just bought a 55" HDTV 1080p 120HZ LED tv and now want blu ray. I have it next to my desktop tower. If I get an internal blu ray drive player in my desktop tower and my monitor comes with a HDMI port which i can connect to the tv will the quality of picture be different? Or would a regular blu ray player be better?

Answer
You can go either way (assuming your computer is capable of handling blu-ray ... check the requirements ... the graphic card must be fast enough, for example). However if you go with the built in computer drive note you can't expect to "connect (the monitor) to the TV". Why? The TV and the monitor are display devices. The blu-ray player is a source device. You can only connect a display to a source.

A stand alone player will offer other capability beside just playing Blu-ray disks (e.g. Picassa, Netflix or other services, USB playback of Jpeg and video, decoding of HD audio from the Blu-ray disk. On the other hand, a computer drive allows you to (potentially ... you have to buy capable software as well as the drive) rip Blu-ray disks to the computer for conversion or use as in media centre mode. Which fits your needs better depends on your needs.

I think you will find by the time you pay for the drive and software (and maybe to get a faster graphics card or upgrade the computer RAM) a stand alone player may look pretty good. Note that even basic players handle Blu-ray essentially identically to premium players (the extra $$ primarily buys better build quality, extra features and better DVD performance).

What are Full HD and HD ready with regard to LED TVs?

Saad

We are planning on buying a new LED TV; however, we are confused as to whether we should buy a full HD TV or HD ready TV. Do they really have to do something with the quality of video aired by TV channel stations?

Answer
This is a very confusing terms. Let me explain the story:

In the US - there were lawsuits over the type of antenna signals. TV Makers had a problem. If they included tuners designed with 1 type of antenna signals and the format changed, the televisions would not work with an antenna. So they started building and selling televisions WITHOUT tuners. This worked great for people with satellite or cable box's who did not care about using an antenna, and consumers who did want to use an antenna could buy an external box for .. $150.

This caused confusion so they made a law that these televisions had to be called "HD Ready".

This had nothing to do with 720 or 1080 or "full HD" - In the United States.

In Europe and India - the term could mean something different. Learn this before you purchase.

MY ADVICE:

IF the screen size is below 40 inches - you can get away with a HDTV that is native 720.

If the screen size is above 40 inches - get the 1080 version.

Hope this helps.

How to add a TV and Antenna to a boat?

Dita

We purchased lightly used Monterey power boat and it doesn't have a TV in it. We've been shopping around and found a new LED TV for the cabin, but trying to figure out how to run the wires. We were told that an outside antenna has to be added too. Help! We're both not good at this stuff. How do we get behind these panels to do this?

Answer
You don't state what model of Monterey you have, but if you have an "Electronics" arch on the boat, there are cover plates that can be removed so that you can mount and run the wires in there. Once inside of the arch, there should be "Feeder Tubes" for the wire/cable to the upper portion of the boat. This is were things get tricky. You'll need to figure out where you want the TV mounted and run everything to that point. Hope the TV you purchased has a 12 volt operation. That will make things a bunch easier, if not, then you'll need to have a voltage "Inverter" installed too. I'd recommend you check with a Monterey dealer and have them do the work since both of you are technically challenged. Lot's of things can get broken or damaged if not removed correctly.

I've done the type of work like what you're doing, but it was on a Sea Ray. Good Luck and Happy Boating.
