Can my Samsung LED TV read NTSC?

I live in Portugal and I own a Samsung LED TV series 8 (not 3D), and I have a Nintendo Gamecube that I bought in USA some years ago. My question is:

Before I buy a power adapter, will my TV read the NTSC image from the Gamecube? Or my tv is only PAL? I can't find it anywhere!

A question about 26" LCD/LED TV's?

I looking into purchasing a 26" LCD/LED TV and though I know that the 26" measurement refers to the diagonal measurement of the screen, what is the actual height and width measurements of the screen.
That with the new formats I know TV's have shrunk in the viewing height of the picture but gained width in the picture.
I am trying to figure out if I have to reconfigure my shelving unit to accommodate a new width with less height if my thoughts are true and they now differ from the old style TV's.

Sharp has developed a technology named moth-eye which almost completely solves the problem but I guess these TVs are only available in Japan. Sony is already using a technology named opticontrast on some of their models which helps it reduce the glare.

I cannot speak for other brands, but LG has about 23 different models in 32 inch screen size â it would be difficult to suggest the best one for you without having more information about what you want from your TV â what are your watching preferences, what feature you need in a TV etc. However, I will name three models from the top of my mind; you can explore each of them according to your specific needs.

Compared to brands like Samsung or Sony nowadays, in general. I googled it but every post is from 2011 or earlier.

- Top brands: Panasonic (Plasma) > Samsung (LED) > Sony (LED) > LG (LED). Top off brands for LED: Vizio, Toshiba, Phillips.
= Plasma has best picture and audio quality. Plasma has least/no motion blur problems (less blur for more crisp/clear/higher resolutions and best contrast ratios for best color quality especially for blacks and best frequency/hz response times.ect). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn in problems by using technologies like pixel shifting/scrolling. Newer Plasmas haved improved their screen glare problems (and set vivid mode for bright rooms, has other picture modes depending on lighting of room). Newer plasmas use less energy consumption and last longer. Plasma are cheaper to buy, that's why LED is more popular because they want you to buy more expensive cheap made tv's (LCD is becoming discontinued because LED is a LCD tv with back/edge lights which improves many things like Plasma).

- I recommend 1920x1080 for movies, computer monitor/display, some tv shows, some game console games and I recommend 1920x720 for some tv shows and some game console games. I recommend 40+ inches for movies and/or tv shows and 20-30 inches for computer monitor and 30-40 inches for game console games.
- FPS (frames per second): Every video consists of a number of frames per second, think of a video as a fast moving flip book. NTSC countries use 60i or 30i FPS (newer stations use 30p or 60p FPS) for tv shows. PAL/SECAM countries use 50i or 25i FPS (newer stations use 25p or 50p FPS) for tv shows. A LED tv is a LCD tv, but with white or red, green, blue LEDs on the edge of the screen or a full array on the back of the screen).

Can i use a LED TV with my computer, instead of a Computer Monitor?

Yes (possibly) if your computer is a laptop it should either have a VGA, HDMI, or S-VIDEO inputs and your TV should have one of those also. Just wire up whichever wire both devices support and Windows Vista & Windows 7 will both automatically recognize the TV as a monitor.

Now if you have a desktop PC depending on how new it is or if it has an actual graphics card or not it may only have one port (VGA or DVI). If it only has one port run the corresponding cord to the TV. If it has multiple ports you can use multiple monitors /tv's together.

Tv vs moniter is hands down easy moniters have always been superior in quality unless your will to spend tons on a tv, i have a 60hrz led 100,000:1 and my games look amazing, and a 47 10,000,000:1 480hrz both are tv's and a 23 250,000:1 60hrz computer monitior which looks better color wise but actual quality you cant tell, all running off hdmi which is the best for any use of a tv or moniter, has fastest transfer rate and cleariest picture/sound

do they even still sell 23" TVs now , prices and thickness have gone down so most people do not consider anything below 32" because price difference with 23" is negligible, unless they want to put it in a TV cabinet or some confined space.

I know where you're coming from, ideally you'd like to get Full-HD - but HD Ready is still good and if the viewing distance is really 12 feet you absolutely need to go for the 32 inch. 24 inches is way too small for that distance.

This PNAC group was led by such heavy hitters as Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, James Woolsey, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Bill Kristol, James Bolton, Zalmay M. Khalilzad, William Bennett, Dan Quayle, Jeb Bush, most of whom were movers-and-shakers in previous Administrations, then in power-exile, as it were, while Clinton was in the White House. But even given their reputations and clout, the views of this group were regarded as too extreme to be taken seriously by the mainstream conservatives that controlled the Republican Party.

How to take a 40" LED TV to New Delhi from London on BA flight?

Hi,

I know I can take the TV to New Delhi and I might be charged for excess baggage. However, I have 2 questions:

1. Would I be charged any customs in India?
2. How to go about getting the TV from my home to the airport for check-in? I would be travelling alone and carrying 1 big bag for check-in and a laptop bag. Can I get a service from the airport/BA that could collect it from my place and check-it in for me?

So I would definitely like to have some suggestions on how I shall manage this transit.

@Montana: Thanks for the quick reply. Could you please elaborate on that? Do you mean I should ship it from my home to the PO at Heathrow? Is there an option where I don't have to check it in myself; as in, they do it for me? I seriously don't want to "carry" it.
Please note that the main concern in Q2 here is around getting the TV from my home to the airport. I'm not so confident about carrying it myself in a taxi/train - as I would also have a large bag. I will check the tv in at the airport (with whatever extra cost), but how to get it to the airport? Is there a service that can do it from me (Just from my place to the check-in counter)?

I suggest that you find another way of transporting the TV. Baggage handlers are not exactly the most careful of people and they usually just toss around the luggage. If you have to check it in, then make sure that the TV is properly protected with layers of foam, bubble wrap, and etc... Make sure that the box is really sturdy and another tip is to tie ropes around the box (they have to be thick and tied tightly all around). You can also try putting large signs that indicate that the box is fragile and should be handled with caution. However, I wouldn't take the risk.

A bigger problem is the incompatibility of your set with the TV broadcast system in India. India uses the PAL system. North America uses the ATSC/NTSC system. Your TV won't receive local channels in India.

Also, the voltage mains there are 240v/50 hz. Your TV *might* be optionable for that voltage and line frequency--check your owner's guide. But as equipped for the U.S. market, it's set up for 110v/60 hz.

You might be better off returning your set for a refund if possible, and buying one locally in India. That also saves you the hassle and cost of transport, customs, etc.

We had one led tv (samsung) and two lcd tvs (sanyo). We bought a 50" panasonic plasma tv and ended up swiitching all tvs to panasonic plasma (42" and 60"). This product is fantastic. Vivid colors, no blur, no lag on gaming and all are internet connectable (wireless). Supposed glare problem either never occured or on one tv was easily correctable. Burn in problem does not exist anymore, non factor. Viera link is great, gives you other nice options. Plasma has found its time again.

- Top brands: Panasonic (Plasma) and Samsung (LED). (Plasma > LED > LCD). (LCD is going to be discontinued. A LCD tv uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps/CCFL backlights. A LED tv is a LCD tv, but with white or red, green, blue LEDs on the edge of the screen or a full array on the back of the screen).
= Plasma has best picture and audio quality (best response times, best viewing angle, best color quality, less/no motion blur for crisp/clear images because how it's refresh rate works). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn issues by using pixel shifting/scrolling. LCD/LED is best for bright rooms and have most light coming off the screen (Plasmas are not great for bright rooms because of screen glare and faded whites, but do great for dim or dark rooms). Newer Plasmas use less energy consumption and they are cheap to buy. LED are more popular because the manufacturers want to sell you their LED expensive tvs rather than their cheap Plasmas.

- I recommend 1920x1080p for movies, computer monitor/display, some tv shows, and some game console games and I recommend 1280x720p for some tv shows and some game console games. I recommend 40+ inches for movies and/or tv shows and 20-30 inches for computer monitor and 30-40+ inches for game console games.
- FPS (frames per second): Every video consists of a number of frames per second, think of a video as a fast moving flip book. Example; A 3:2 pulldown is post popular because it is needed to match a 24 fps video with a 60hz refresh rate tv, odd frames are repeated 3 times (12x3=36) and even frames are repated 2 times (12x2=24) and 36+24=60 FPS for a 60hz refresh rate tv.

How does Plasma tv refresh rates work with the FPS of a video?
- It will take each pixel in a frame and and repeat it a number of times based on the number of sub-field drives (SFD) the tv has with it's refresh rate. Example 1; (NTSC countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 60hz FPS x 10 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate. Example 2; (PAL/SECAM countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 50hz FPS x 12 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate.
- What is focused-field drive (FFD) on Neo-Plasmas? (Light switching speed = better colors and less motion blur) 2500hz focused field drive means sub-fields are virtually packed into 1/2500th of a second as a sharp impluse, creating crisp motion images even in very very fast movining images (FFD is defined as a inverse of light emission period t. 1/t = 1/0.4ms = 2,500 FFD). Regular sub-feild drives like 50 FPS x 12 sub-fields = 600 hz, light emission spreads as wide as 1 field time (1/60th sec) maximum which results in blurry images for very very fast moving images.
- Refresh rates on Plasmas work similar to LED/LCD tv's. These settings are usually automatic, but you can change them in the advanced picture settings, Example 1; 2D 24p FPS mode and choose refresh rates of 48hz/96hz or 30hz/60hz with pulldown (might use interpolation frames for pulldowns), Example 2; 3D mode and choose refresh rates of 96hz for 24 FPS or 100hz for 50 FPS or 120hz for 60 or 24 fps.ect Of course it has gamer mode or many other adjustments.

LED-backlit LCD television (called LED TV by Samsung Electronics, Panasonic,Toshiba, Philips, LG Electronics, ProScan and Vizio and not to be confused with true LED displays) is an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting[1] rather than fluorescent lights used in traditional LCD televisions.

The LEDs can come in two forms, Dynamic RGB LEDs which are positioned behind the panel, or white Edge-LEDs positioned around the rim of the screen which use a special diffusion panel to spread the light evenly behind the screen.[2]

LED Backlighting Techniques

It is important to distinguish this method of simply backlighting a conventional LCD panel, from a hypothetical true LED display, or an OLED display. LCD-based televisions described as 'LED TVs' are vastly different from self-illuminating OLED, OEL or AMOLED display technologies. In terms of the use of the term 'LED TV' in the UK, the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) has made it clear in prior correspondence that it does not object to the use of the term, but does require it to be clarified in any advertising. However advancements in CCFL technology mean wide color gamuts and lower power consumption are also possible. The principal barrier to wide use of LED backlighting on LCD televisions is cost.

The variations of LED backlighting do offer different benefits. The first commercial LED backlit LCD TV was the Sony Qualia 005 (introduced in 2004). This featured RGB LED arrays to offer a color gamut around twice that of a conventional CCFL LCD television (the combined light output from red, green and blue LEDs produces a more pure white light than is possible with a single white light LED). RGB LED technology continues to be used on selected Sony BRAVIA LCD models, with the addition of 'local dimming' which enables excellent on-screen contrast through selectively turning off the LEDs behind dark parts of a picture frame.

Edge LED lighting was also first introduced by Sony (September 2008) on the 40 inch BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M (referred to as the ZX1 in Europe). The principal benefit of Edge-LED lighting for LCD televisions is the ability to build thinner housings (the BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M is as thin as 9.9mm). Samsung has also introduced a range of Edge-LED lit LCD televisions with extremely thin housings.

LED-backlit LCD TVs are considered a more sustainable choice, with a longer life and better energy efficiency than plasmas and conventional LCD TVs.[6] Unlike CCFL backlights, LEDs also use no mercury in their manufacture. Unfortunately, you were given the wrong information. Panasonic is better in making plasma tvs rather than led. Again, best is a very subjective term but when it comes to lcd-led tvs I prefer lg that's why I got my smart 3d tv from them. Before my purchase there were several factors I had to consider but I chose it because it's user friendly, I'm comfortable with its 3d and it didn't hurt my pocket that much.

There is no one answer. Plasma once had the most brilliant colors and clarity, but the latest model LCD (including LED) sets are, in many examples, equal or better.

"LED" sets (actually LCDs with a more modern type of backlighting) are the latest technology and, potentially, can supply the best picture. But an excellent quality LCD set, with conventional backlighting, can and in many cases does provide superior quality over a mediocre "LED" set.

Superior quality varies from model to model among different manufacturers. You need to look at the professional lab tests of specific models, like from Consumer Reports, then read a lot of owner reviews (i.e. Amazon, etc.). Anyone who says one type or one brand is absolutely the best across the board is not well informed.

The first difference that strikes me is the price. Currently LED televisions are about 50% more than an LCD tv. However the price gap has been narrowing and will continue to do so. An LED tv uses light emitting diodes ad its source of light for the television. An LED tv uses these diodes to create a much more vibrant and colorful image. The blacks are truly black (not dark gray) and the colors are more realistic vs an LCD tv. LED tvs can achieve a contrast ratio of up to 500,000:1. They also in general have a higher refresh rate which will help when watching shows with motion such as sports or movies.

The second major difference between LED and LCD televisions is the environmental effect. LCD televisions use mercury in the manufacturing process versus the LED tv which does not! Mercury is very bad for the environment. Mercury is also used in making solar cells but that is off topic. An LED hdtv will also use about 40% LESS power than the same size LCD tv. Power usage is the dark secret of all the new line of HDTVs. An LCD or plasma television cost between $10-15 per month to operate. That is quite high particularly if you have more than one. The tree hugger in me comes down firmly on the side of LED televisions.

The thickness and therefore the weight is the last major difference of LED vs LCD tvs. LED televisions are about one third the thickness of the same size LCD tv. Correspondingly, the weight is about half. This could come into play when deciding how to mount your new HDTV.

It is my belief that LED televisions are vastly superior to an LCD tv.

I want to buy a 40 inch LCD or LED tv. I prefer sony bravia zx1. Anyone used it? Can anyone give some suggestions!


Answer
At 40" that would be a really good series from Sony to get. It is one of the top tier brands for sure. And its a really high end line from them. You would get a great viewing experience with that TV.

The XBR8 or XBR10 LED options would be good as well. But at 40", it might not be as valuable to spend all the extra cash on an LED. You'll get some advantages from it for sure, but to the effect of how much you spend? That's a bit more hard to determine, but probably no you won't.

Same with if you went with like Samsung or Sharp. With Samsung you'd be better of with like a Series 6 or Series 7 set at 40" rather than their LED series. And with Sharp you're again likely better off with something like a D65 for D85 series more than any LED offering. Those would be the other primary 40" options to consider though (Samsung and Sharp). I really like the Sony Z series though and would likely go with that though.

The other option of course is jump over to plasma. Get a Panasonic Viera Plasma. Something like the 42" TC-P42G10. Amazon has a really good price on it these days. Either snag it online from them or find a retail outlet that will price match them. That would be another top of the line option in the size range you're looking at.

Sharp aquos led tv and pioneer dvd?! please help!?

i have a sharp aquos 60 inch led tv and i have no idea how to connect my pioneer dvd player to it!!! both are working great, i just cant connect them! please please, any ideas?

Without knowing exactly which model TV and DVD player you have, I am still 99% sure that both your TV and your DVD player have component video inputs and outputs (to know for sure, look at the back of your DVD player and your TV and see if both have round plugs colored red green and blue labeled "component" or something like "YrYbPb").

So if you buy a component video cable, and a stereo audio RCA cable, you can hook them up that way.

A component video cable has 3 plugs at each end, colored red, green, and blue, it looks like this: http://networkcable-tester.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/component-video-cable.jpg

You would plug the component cable into the red/green/blue component *output* plugs on the DVD player, and plug the other end into the red/green/blue component *input* plugs on the TV (sometimes these will be labeled "component" on the DVD/TV, sometimes something like "YrYpPb" but it's the same thing).

A stereo RCA audio cable has 2 plugs at each end, colored red and white. It looks like this: http://www.electronicsnmore.com/images/RCA2.gif

You would plug the audio cable into the red/white audio *output* plugs on the DVD player, and plug the other end into the red/white audio *input* plugs on the TV.

Your TV may have more than one set of component inputs - if so, make sure that you plug the video and the audio cables into the same input - for instance video 1 and audio 1 (instead of video 1 and audio 2 for example).

Once everything is hooked up, press the Source or Input or Video button on the TV's remote to switch to the DVD.

P.S. You can also buy a single "component AV cable" - which combines the two cables, so that means it has 5 plugs at each end: red/green/blue for video and red/white for audio.

One more P.S. You could also hook up with a "composite AV cable" which looks like this:

Plasma has least/no motion blur problems (less blur for more crisp/clear/higher resolutions and best contrast ratios for best color quality especially for blacks and best frequency/hz response times.ect). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn in problems by using technologies like pixel shifting/scrolling. Newer Plasmas haved improved their screen glare problems (and set vivid mode for bright rooms, has other picture modes depending on lighting of room). Newer plasmas use less energy consumption and last longer. Plasma are cheaper to buy, that's why LED is more popular because they want you to buy more expensive cheap made tv's (LCD is becoming discontinued because LED is a LCD tv with back/edge lights which improves many things like Plasma).

- I recommend 1920x1080 for movies, computer monitor/display, some tv shows, some game console games and I recommend 1920x720 for some tv shows and some game console games. I give credit where its do and both are real nice tvs,the lg has a cool design nice features and good PQ.But the ES8000 is getting about every award for led technology there is.I have the set its an amazing tv with very bright colors and the new cpu control system is amazing the full hd-1080p 3D and the smart features are best in class.Plasma is a different tech you didnt mention so I gave you the answer based on what you aked.And based on your question the Es8000 is the most feature packed led out.Look up the reviews except for the fact it just came out the only negative thing I read anywhere was the voice recognition feature with eye camera control and thats already fixed i just got a new firmware update this morning and all is great.I say Samsung ES8000.I can write for an hour about tech and features bottom line the new 2012 models are all better but the new samsung 8000 series has a new led local micro dimming full array algorithm that is controlled by the only dual core cpu tv in existence.Go on AVS forum they have real people and pros with every tv on earth.If you cant find info there you wont find it anywhere.Good luck! The main difference is the new local dimming spu controlled and full 1080p 3d-hd,LG uses passive tech for 3d.The samsung produces much better colors with less ghosting and motion effects.I love mine,and so do my customers,a new firmware update fixed voice and gesture control now there is nothing I can knock about the samsung,every tv has some issues LEDs are known for banding,halo,etc,Plasmas for dithering lower brightness but better blacks,that's the give up.Been doing this a long time.Cheers!

The Samsung 8500 series LED tv would be the top end. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs. You are not going to see any LG tv being recommended. Personally, the Panasonic Plasma ZT series would be a much better tv. All my tv are from Panasonic 4 Plasma and 2 LCD. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Most retail store does not carry the very high end models in the store. Best Buy with the Magnolia department can order the tv for you if they don't have it on display. Hope this will help you out.

Your tv has 120hz. The problem with that is that everything that we've been watching was 24 frames per second. What the 120hz does is splice in extra frames to make all of your faster motion more clear and less pixelated. This will only benefit stuff like sports and video games. What you want to do is go into the menu settings, change the speed back down to 24p or cinema mode, which will turn the 120hz off.

LED TV isn't always an upgrade over LCD because LED TVs are really just LCD TVs with LED backlights.

The razor thin sets actually give up picture quality to get that super thin profile. These edge lit TVs have issues with uniformity and light leakage. You won't notice it in the store, but you'll see it at night when you are at home and the lights are out.

If you go with an LED/LCD TV, you need to buy a TV that uses LEDs in a local dimming configuration not edge lit. Most LED TVs are edge lit, not local dimming. To make matters worse, some TV makers use their own lingo. Vizio for example calls their local dimming sets, TruLED.

I'd take a good plasma set over an edge lit LCD/LED TV any day. The very best local dimming LED/LCD sets and the very best plasma sets are a close call.

Jeannie Lewis (b. 1945) is widely acknowedged as one of Australia's most accomplished, versatile and passionate vocal artists, and a performer whose work crosses many musical boundaries.

Jeannie started her singing career on the Sydney folk and jazz circuit in the mid-1960's then moved into the rock scene in the early 70s, establishing a strong reputation through her dynamic performances and powerful interpretations of songs both on stage and on the outstanding recordings she made in those years. During the 80's and 90's she continued to develop and broaden her career, with roles in musical theatre and the unique one-woman cabaret shows that reflected her growing love of Latin music, and her commitment to the often-underrated role of women's voices in music. Jeannie can adapt her voice to a large and eclectic range of material -- folk, rock, blues, opera, torch songs, Broadway tunes, tango and jazz -- and she is recognised both here and overseas as a peerless interpreter, with a rare ability to make almost any material her own.

By the time she left Sydney University in the late 60's, Jeannie had already begun her performing career on the Sydney folk scene, as well as singing with jazz groups, inlcuding The Ray Price Jazz Quintet, The Nat Oliver Jazz Band and The Alan Lee Jazz Quintet, and her first commercial recording was as vocalist on the Ray Price Jazz Quintet's album Spectrum, released in 1971.

On February 14, 1970 Jeannie made her one of her first major public appearances as a 'rock' performer. With the progressive band Tully (who had just finished their stint as house band for the Australian production of HAIR) and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Jeannie collaborated in the Sydney Proms premiere performance of Peter Sculthorpe's innovative work Love 200, with lighting and effects by the legendary Ellis D. Fogg (Roger Foley). This ambitious work for two vocalists, rock group and orchestra featured a libretto by noted TV dramatist Tony Morphett (Dynasty, Certain Women) and was written to commemorate the Captain Cook bicentennial. As the title implies, it explored themes of Captain Cook's journey to plot the transit of Venus in 1770 -- the voyage that led to his "discovery" of Australia.

The meeting with Tully was the beginning of a long and fruitful working relationship between Jeannie and members of that group, notably Michael Carlos, who became her musical director and composed much of her first album. Later in the year she put together the Sydney-based group Gypsy Train which included ex-Tully vocalist Terry Wilson, jazz pianist and noted session player Bobby Gebert (later a member of supergroup Duck), Kydric Shaw (guitar), John Helman (bass; ex-Levi Smith's Clefs) and Daryl McKenzie (drums). In 1972, Lewis sang the title song to Jim Sharman's debut feature film Shirley Thomson Versus The Aliens.

In 1973 EMI issued Jeannie's classic debut album, Free Fall Through Featherless Flight, arranged and directed by Carlos. Its cover was designed by renowed Australian artist Martin Sharp whose first record designs were the classic psychedelic covers for Cream's Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire LP's). The superb list songs included some fine Australian compositions like Jeannie's inimitable renditions of Graham Lowndes' "Till Time Brings Change", Company Caine's "It's Up to You" and Billy Green's setting of the Dylan Thomas poem "Do Not Go Gentle" (which Billy revisited the following year with Doug Parkinson on vocals, for the soundtrack of Sandy Harbutt's movie Stone). Other mtracks include Some Book of Life" (a collaboration between Patrick Flynn and Reg Livermore) and "It'll rise again", an excerpt from Love 200, co-written by Peter Sculthorpe and Tony Morphett.

Backing Jeannie on the album was an all-star lineup including Michael Carlos on Moog, organ and harpsichord, Mike Wade and Mike Reid (guitars), Ken Firth (bass; ex-Tully), Jamie McKinley (ex-Cool Bananas, piano), Greg Henson (drums), Alan Lee (percussion), Marcia Hines (backing vocals), Shayna Stewart (backing vocals, ex-Extradition, Tully), The Fidelio String Quartet and a wind section. The album won the Australian Radio Record Award for the Best Australian LP of 1974, despite receiving virtually no radio support whatsoever outside the ABC, although it was featured on Chris Winter's pioneering show Room To Move, and gained further airplay in the early days of radio station 2JJ (Double Jay) in Sydney.

- Top brands: Panasonic (Plasma) and Samsung (LED). (Plasma > LED > LCD). (LCD is going to be discontinued. A LCD tv uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps/CCFL backlights. A LED tv is a LCD tv, but with white or red, green, blue LEDs on the edge of the screen or a full array on the back of the screen).
= Plasma has best picture and audio quality (best response times, best viewing angle, best color quality, less/no motion blur for crisp/clear images because how it's refresh rate works). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn issues by using pixel shifting/scrolling. LCD/LED is best for bright rooms and have most light coming off the screen (Plasmas are not great for bright rooms because of screen glare and faded whites, but do great for dim or dark rooms). It is also call response time, because in fact an LED TV is the same thing as a LCD TV, except for a different light behind the screen (the screen in an LED TV is still an LCD screen).

There is no good measure for gaming, because the advertised response time is not the real response time of actual usage, but a grey to grey response time. You can also look at the refresh rate of the screen (the one you mention is 60Hz), but again, a 120Hz TV doesn't guarantee that the picture is fully drawn within one cycle, so there could still be motion blur.

The measure that you should care about is the Input Lag, but this isn't something manufacturers are advertising on their tv.

the other one with 170/160 angles has 1366x769 and vga port only and 18.5 inch screen

Whether or not extreme viewing angles affect your monitor/television enjoyment depends on a lot of things, including the monitor/TV's basic technology, the quality of your specific model, and how extreme of an viewing angle you're talking about.

LCD monitor/televisions have a viewing angle problem. So do LED monitors/TVs, which are really LCDs with LED backlighting. As you move farther to the side and away from the central sweet spot, the picture gets darker and the color duller.

However, there have been huge advances in this technology over the years, and viewing angle is no longer the big problem it once was. In most sets, you have to get to a very extreme angle, so that you're almost looking at the side of the monitor/TV, to notice a real problem. When you come right down to it, looking at the monitor/TV from that angle isn't optimal anyway; any picture will look better when viewed from close to head on.

If you're really worried about viewing angles, buy a plasma set, where there are no viewing angle issues. (Of course, the distortion caused by the angle itself will still be there.) Plasma sets have their own issues--burn-in and heavy power consumption--but these too have been reduced in recent years by improved technology.

These issues are the same with 2D and 3D. However, if you're sitting at a really extreme angle, a 3D image may look more distorted than a 2D one--even on a plasma set.

Hello everybody!

I've been looking for a new TV for a few months. I would like a big screen, LED TV. I was in Walmart today, and they had a new 50-inch LED TV, LG brand, 120hz 1080p for $598 (Model # 50LN5100). Since I've been looking for a new TV for a while, I have been pricing them and I know this is a fantastic deal, especially since I'm looking for a name brand TV, not a cheap one that will break in a year. Since I would like to make a good investment since I watch TV a lot, I like to research a product before I buy it. When I tried to look up user ratings, this model was no where to be found. I tried to look on Walmart.com, Amazon and the LG website.

What are your opinions on this? Is this a bad sign? I've heard mixed reactions from my friends saying it's most likely out-of-stock TV that they stopped making, but others have told me it probably has a new model number, so I shouldn't think about that.

Keep in mind that those bargain retail store sell lower end models of the brands model to keep the price down. Manufacturer also change the model numbers for those store. I could reccommend looking for a tv at Sam's Club or Costco, they will at less provide you a 90 day return policy and one extra year of factory warranty at no extra cost. Memembership is around $50. Go online to Home Theater Magaine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. Panasonic is the most reliable tv in the market today and the only Plasma tv being recommended. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Lower end models of LG tv have issue with the circuit board going out on them. I personally have 4 Panasonic plasma tv and never had one issue. Hope this wll help you out.

Hello

It depends on what market you need it for I will give you the best cameras in each market.


Not all CCTV equipment is created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of CCTV you can find the equivalent of a $2,000 golf cart and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels but that's where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts.

Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $100.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means itâs not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 2% which means they canât afford to offer good service or allow for RMAs (returns). Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

A good outdoor Camera will have
High resolution (520TVL or higher)
Good singnal to noise ratio (S/N 49DB or 50DB)
A true Sony CCD (not Chinese knockoff)
Rugged enclosure to handle vandals and environments
At least IP 66 and a suitable temperature rating for you region
IR LED's to see in pitch dark: active IR rating not projected IR as projected IR has no coloration with how far the camera can see.

A Varifocal lens with a good aperture a good examples are 5-50mm or 2.9~10mm a fixed lens almost never works when installing a camera outdoors. Again to ensure you are getting a good lens and optics stick no name brands and avoid online retailers, eBay, Swann Lorex, Costco and Q see and other cheap no name products.

Also if you are buying good cameras buy an equally good DVR or you will not get the performance out of its like a PC if you buy a $700 processor and a 60$ MB you would be better off to get a $200 MB and a $300 processor a CCTV system needs good optics, imaging equipment and recording device to work properly.
