What film/tv show am I thinking of?

best led tv hong kong

best led tv hong kong image

Daniel H

I was in my local electronics store the other day and on one of the display TVs I saw some of a film or show (not sure which). It was set in what looked like a futuristic Hong-Kong, and these two people (a woman and a man) were stood on the roof of a giant building in front of a man who looked quite similar to Tommy Lee Jones, but there's nothing in his filmography, from what I can see, about such a film/TV Show. These three people were surrounded by robots (which led me to think that this may have been a Terminator film or perhaps maybe the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but again, nothing from what I can see about these films/tv show fit the description) and when the man threw himself at this Tommy Lee Jones guy, the robots aimed their guns at the woman and the man. All of a sudden one of the helipad bays open and a giant ship emerges and the pilot opens fire on all of the robots. The giant building begins to shake, and before long, stars exploding. The Tommy guy is knocked unconscious and the woman and the man begin to make their way off of the roof as it is about to fall to the ground. The scene cuts to an outside shot of the ground floor and a giant explosion and fireball emerges from the floor flying upwards. The woman and man jump off of the edge of the roof and land on a side ledge. The Tommy guy regains consciousness but it is too late. The roof collapses and begins to fall towards the ground floor and the fire ball. Tommy guy is engulfed by flames. The scene then cuts to a view of the public looking up at the building whilst it collapses. The final scene that I saw was the woman holding the man who I can only presume is deceased.

What film/TV show is this?! It looked awesome in the store and I would love to know the name of it.

What are the different types of LED TVs, and can someone explain the pros and cons of each type? What should a person look for or watch out for when purchasing a LED TV. Any advice is appreciated.
Among the manufacturers who has the best rep for LEDs? Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, LG, Toshiba?

I just want info on LED's, I don't need info on any other type of tvs such as LCD, Plasma, etc. Please do not comment on them.

Answer
There are two types....NON-Adjustable LED lamps and Adjustable LED Lamps....

Adjustable lets the consumer adjust, and the VIDEO SIGNAL adjust....That means Blacker blacks and more VIVID Whites ! And Look!! Colors don't fade!

Geee, Thanks Mom.....I love my Sony!

Yep....just had training on that Model....forgot which one it was..The V....The VL series....the Z ...

I know it's V series or higher.....ask the salesmen which ones have variable LED lighting in the Sony line....

Have them set up any of the TV sets there with the NTSC Color Bar pattern before you decide which one is best....people mess up the settings all day long in a store.

What makes 3d led tv better than others like it?

What makes 3d led tv better than others like it?

Answer
There has been a lot of hype and confusion surrounding the introduction of "LED" Televisions. Even many marketing representatives and sales professionals that should know better are falsely explaining what an LED Television is to their prospective customers.

To set the record straight, it is important to note that the LED designation refers to the backlight system used in some newer LCD Televisions, not the chips that produce the image content.

LCD chips and pixels do not produce their own light. In order for an LCD television to produce a visible image the LCD's pixels have to be "backlit". For more specifics on the backlighting process needed for LCD Televisions,

LED TVs are still LCD TVs. It is just that these new sets use LED backlights rather than the fluorescent-type backlights used in most other LCD TVs.

In other words, LED TVs should actually be labeled LCD/LED TVs.

How LED Technology is Used In LCD TVs

The are currently two main ways that LED backlighting is applied in LCD flat panel televisions.

One type of LED backlighting is referred to as Edge Lighting. In this method, a series LED backlights are placed along the outside edges of the screen. The light is then dispersed across the screen. The advantage of this method is that the LED/LCD TV can be made very thin. On the other hand, the disadvantage of Edge lighting is that black levels are not as deep and the edge area of the screen has a tendency to be brighter than the center area of the screen.

The other type of LED backlighting is referred to as Full-Array. In this method, several rows of LEDs are placed behind the entire surface of the screen. The advantage is that these sets can employ "local dimming". Local dimming means that each LED or a specific group of LEDs can be turned on and off independently within certain areas of the screen, thus providing more control of the brightness and darkness for each those areas, depending on the source material being displayed. On the other hand, LCD TVs that employ full array backlighting are thicker than LCD TVs that employ an Edge-lit LED light source.

If you are considering the purchase of an LED/LCD Television, find out which brands and models are currently using the Edge or Full Array method and take of a look at each type when you go shopping to see which type of LED backlighting looks best to you.

what would be more impressive to a girl, a 45 inch projection screen or a 45 inch lcd tv?

markomarin

I just painted my new room. Everything is looking like the perfect man cave but I have limited space. I have one bare wall that looks perfect for a flat screen or a projector. Projectors arnt as good. Quality but are they more impresive than a lcd tv?

Answer
Trying to impress a girl with a big TV is ridiculous. You're trying to waste money on a girl that you haven't even met yet? Although females watch TV too, they typically don't care about the size of the TV (that obsession is limited to us males). Even fewer of them are going to know or care about the difference between a projection vs. LCD TV.

Use your noodle, kid. If you have a small room, why in the world would you consider something that has the footprint of a projection TV? Get a LCD, LED or plasma and be able to walk in your room.

Is a 22 inch television with 1000:1 contrast any good?

me

i saw a television With these stats online and wondered if it was worth buying?

Answer
hell no, now with LED TV's in the picture, companies that are making
LED's like LG and samsung are boasting contrasts anywhere from
1 000 000:1 all the way too 8 000 000:1 my regular LCD is 80 000:1
alone so to answer your question, no that is not a good contrast. Also
what brand of TV is it? and whats the refresh rates and response times,
you should look into that.

Can I downgrade from a 32 inch tv to a 24 inch?

Christwarr

My 32 inch LCD Emerson hdtv broke, will it be that much of a downgrade to go to a 24 inch LED Vizio TV. Basically I am looking at either a 24 inch vizio or a 32 inch LED element tv. I have never heard of element and saw mixed reviews, but it is made in America, which I like. Will an Element 32 inch led tv last, or will it break in two years like my Emerson did?

Answer
You're going down 12 inches so you will notice the difference. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for so if you buy an off brand TV be prepared for it to go out in a year. Basically they take advantage of the poor by making them pay more. Save an extra hundred and buy a 32 or 40" name brand HD tv. I bought mine from Walmart and saved about 150 dollars in black friday.

You got ripped off. Vizio does not have this feature on their 3D passive models. I'm aware that LG's cinema 3D TV has this feature but not too sure about other models. If you bought your Vizio at Walmart, you got ripped off. They usually promote Vizio to the max.

Should I get a projector or tv for my home theater?

best led hd tv to buy
 on LG 47LX6500 47-Inch 3D 1080p 240 Hz LED Plus LCD HDTV
best led hd tv to buy image

the man

I'm building a home theater with surround sound and whatnot, I just need the main part now. I can't decide whether to buy a HD projector or TV. I've heard that the display qualities of the projectors are lower than that of TV's in general, but others say that it's just because the screen is so large. I want to be able to mount the screen in front of a TV so I can watch the news without feeling like I need to get popcorn, so is there a way to mount it from a stand or something? I've also heard that the bulbs need replacing every few years for like 400 bucks...

The main question though, is quality. Compared to, say, and LED set, does a projector's color and 1080p look as good? Or better?

And which company/price range/model should I stick to?
Thanks @Alex, I have the couch about 15 feet away, and there is a window in the room but I'm probably going to be watching movies at night anyways. I'm mounting the screen in front of the TV so I can retract it when I want to watch other things, thanks a lot!

Answer
The answer does depend on factors like the layout of your room.

Will you be viewing from over 12 feet away?
Can you keep out all external light even during daylight hours?
If the answer to both of these is yes, then a projector may be right for you.

I want the best picture quality I can afford.
I can put furnature wherever gives me the best viewing position.
The answer is probably a TV.

To get a cinematic experience from a TV, you need a very big TV and to sit very close to it.
I've got a 60" plasma and a viewing distance of about 8 feet.
If I view it from 18 feet, you can't tell the difference between HD and SD.
From 8 foot, SD looks rubbish. 1080p looks fantastic though.
From 12 feet both SD and HD are watchable, but it's not as cinematic.

I've painted the wall behind the TV black, so when the lights are out there's no light wash from the wall behind, the picture just floats.

Some projectors are very poor, even the HD ones. You get what you pay for. By the time the bulb goes once or twice you'll probably be considering buying your next upgrade anyway, so don't worry too much about that, just factor it in to the purchase cost decision.

Some 50 inch TVs are very good for a sensible price, but make sure to do your research because there are still a few howlers out there, not all of them the cheapest ones.

What do you recommend for my PlayStation 3?

Greg H

I want to get surround sound for my PlayStation 3 and I was wondering if you have any recommendations on what I should get. When I check out best buy it all "theater systems". I just want surround sound, not a new blue rye DVD... etc.

I am also planning on what type of HD/LCD TV, what type should I get.

(I play Call of Duty 5, games like that)

Website links will and store names will help.

Any help?

Answer
This isn't a question that can be answered in 1000 characters but ill try my best.

First lets start with HDTV. Do not buy sony. I know your thinking its sony, Ps3 is Sony. Yes, Yes it is. But Sony TV's are over priced. I'm not saying they are not great tv's but there are brands that are cheaper in pricer and better quality.

So with that said.
Go with a Samsung. Now I'm not sure of your price range is. If you got 3000 and some change to spend the buy a new Samsung 46"+ LED TV. Don't feel bad if you don't most people don't. Now if you want just a LCD an really amazing LCD by samsung is the 550 series or the 650 Series ToC. There's no real reason to buy higher then a 650 series unless your going to buy a 950 series which has a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. I'm not sure of that price.

But anways a 650 Series Samsung is an amazing TV. Be sure to get get a 40+ inch LCD because they may look big in the store but trust me a 40" compared to a 46" is a very noticable difference.
Okay I think I've touched enough on that

As for Surround sound. This is more complicated. But. If your looking for a HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) look at onkyo ht-s6100 or a onkyo ht-s7100. The 7100 is a 7.1 that for a starter Home Theater is amazing. If your not an Audiophile then don't worry about ever getting anything bigger then it. Incase you have the thought of a bose system. Its a great system but very overpriced. In time once you learn more about audio etc you can upgrade in a few years

I've shopped for 6 months for HDTV and Surround sound and. Yesterday I finally completed my home theater. I have a 120hz 46" 650 series Samsung. A Ht-s7100 onkyo 7.1 home theater. And a 80gb Mgs4 ps3. I know all of it is compatiable.

Once you get everything set up. You will never want to watch a movie in non hd. Heck I don't even wanna go to the movies. When I can sit at home. And eat and laugh, pause, whatever ya want and never miss a movie of a action packed movie.

What is the difference between an LED and LCD TV?

c_verhoff1

What is the difference between an LED and LCD TV? Which one is a better choice for the money/time it will last/overall best picture? Also, must be able to get TV in about a 20in or so in size. And what would be the best brand and good price?

Answer
LED TV is just an LCD TV that uses a LED backlight instead of a fluorescent one. This helps alleviate the problem of poor color fidelity that LCD's suffer from, but does little to help poor black levels, response time, and viewing angles.

At around 20 inches, I would recommend a CRT for best picture quality. Resolution is NOT everything. Most people think resolution is a lot more important than it really is. So as long as space isn't a major constraint and you're not going to be using as a computer monitor, I'd recommend a CRT at 20 inches: where it lacks in resolution it more than makes up in response time, color fidelity, and contrast. Plus it costs up to 50% less than a comparable LCD.

http://www.memorex.com/products/product_details.php?PID=50706 This is one of the better 20 inch CRT's currently on the market. $160 at Target. I own one and am very satisfied with it. It's got 10 watts of power output, which is not only excellent for a TV of that size, but respectable for ANY sized TV.

How much will LED TVs drop in price come 4th quarter/ Christmas?

Last year LCD TVs had a drastic reduction in price. I believe partly because of the economy and partly because LCD technology is being phased out to make way for LED TVs. I know prices *probably* won't see a drastic drop like last year but how much, in your opinion, do you think LED TVs, particularly 240Hz and 46-55" TVs will drop in price from now until 4th quarter/ Christmas season? Thanks for your input. :)

Answer
Every most-popular technology reaches $600 for 40in and $1000 for 50in, and only falls lower when the next generation of that technology comes in or another technology grabs up its market share (see 720p 50in plasmas for $600 as a perfect example).

So, to $600 for 40in and $1000 for 50in in the long run, like after christmas sales, but +$200 for Christmas itself.

How much well a pawn shop give me for my lcd tv.?

daniel est

I have a samsung 42inc LCD 240hz I'm selling to upgrade to a 55inc led tv how much do u think they well give me for it ??

Answer
You should just keep it for a "just in case", pawn shops are doing poorly right now, they overed price stuff, and pay stuff really lower that they should. Give the TV to a close friend, sell it to your friend, keep it in storage. Since all flat screens still have the same chance of being cracked by a Wii remote or any other object. If you 55inch break for some reason you can pull out that 42 inch especially in last minute situation like the SuperBowl.

How do I keep my Xbox 360 clean and damage free?

I have a brand new Xbox360. I want to take very good care of it and use it for many years as possible. What's the best way to keep it clean, dust free, and undamaged? I have my Xbox on open entertainment shelf next to ceiling to floor height balcony window, my balcony window door is always open as I don't have AC in my condo. Any suggestions?

Answer
I to am pretty intense with my Xbox 360's care. Ive done some looking around and searches for this stuff, number one thing is if you have any discs spinning in the drive, or the xbox is on with a disc in it, DO NOT move it, not even the slightest bit... This wrecks both the drive, and disc.

To avoid the RROD (red rings of the death - best you look this up to on google etc.) do not keep your Xbox turned on for any extensive periods of time. About 8-10 hours on at once is pretty long, and could over-heat your Xbox. Ensure no fabrics or materials are covering your Xbox, it has reasonable ventilation and usually standing it upright can avoid any heat problems. Nevertheless, its more dangerous and lying it horizontally will work just as well.

Your balcony windows being open should be fine, however, make sure no fine dust is building up at the rear on your console. Any wet, humid conditions can damage the circuiting over time also (happened with my PSP) so keep your Xbox as dry as possible.

Static from TV sets and other electronic devices attracts dust in quite heavy amounts. A very light solution of fabric softener and water can cancel out this effect for about a week or two, Thought it must be applied very lightly to any surfaces with a paper towel, and is not recommended for Plasma, LCD or LED screens...

Insure your Xbox is always on a flat surface, that isnt balancing on any unstable grounds (soft thick carpets, blankets etc.). Make sure all cables leading into it have enough room to lead out, then towards their input (so they are not on a tight angle from the Xbox output, damaging the head on the cable). Place all cables in an area where you can not trip over them. Try to keep a distance between your Xbox and your TV set, for heat and radiation reasons. Around 1 meter from the center of the screen is enough I think.

Don't place any sharp, serrated or blunt objects the Xbox case, such as coffee mugs, DVD players, scissors etc. Don't let animals crawl on them too (I know from personal experience...)

Those are a few things I know, and I know there are plenty others you can do ... But by the way, if your under 18, and you say this on your Xbox Live gamertag, Xbox Live will cancel your purchasing of many free online content. So I'd say lie about your age with that...

Happy gaming, glad your not a Sony fanboy :)

How much power is wasted on the LED clock on a microwave oven in a year? Gas Oven? (in the US) Thanks.?

Mark L

I had seen somewhere on the web that the typical use of a microwave oven would use more power for the LED clock in 10 years time then cooking. Looking to learn more.

Answer
After reading your question, I used my "Kill-A-Watt" meter and measured the consumption of my microwave oven.

The base load of the microwave is 2 watts. This number did not fluctuate based on the LED display. This is basically the power consumption of the electronic controls.

2 watts x 24 hours x 365 days x 10 years = 175,200 watt-hours or 175 kWh.

When operating at 100% power, my microwave oven draws 1750 watts. (1.75 kW) A bag of microwave popcorn takes about 3-minutes or 1/20th of an hour. (0.05 hours)

1.75 kW x 0.05 hours = 0.0875 kWh

Microwave frozen dinners take a bit longer, but boiling a cup of water for instant coffee or tea takes less time. I will assume that the average microwave "event" takes 3 minutes or the 0.0875 kWh.

If we assume a average of three microwave events per day, in one year this amounts to:

0.0875 kWh per event x 3 events x 365 days = 96 kWh.

Actually 2-watts is pretty low. Other applicances such as VCR's and TV's generally draw much more when they are turned off.

P.S. No, I don't have a supercharged microwave oven. It is rated 1200 watts, but that is the output used to heat the food. The actual power consumption from the electric utility is 1750 watts at full power. (measured with the Kill-A-Watt)

How to connect my TV to the internet?

Brad

Bought a Samsung 40" LED TV and it has options for things like netflix and youtube to where if im connected to the internet I can connect to these sites. The problem is that my internet is coming from the living room with a wireless router and I don't think my tv has an option for wireless network connectivity. How can i connect to the internet without running a cable from the living room to my room? Is that the only way? Thanks in advance for your time and answers

Answer
If the TV has no Wireless Antenna/Receiver, then i'm sorry to say that your only option is a Ethernet cable from the router to the Ethernet port on the tv, (Or by chance USB)
The TV "MIGHT" support a USB wireless antenna adapter, but i would call to find out, before spending money on it.

Also, if you have a computer in the same room, like your laptop or desktop, you can connect the TV to it using a HDMI or DVI cable, this will only allow you to use the TV as a second monitor, but you could then use the laptop as the internet connection, by that i mean, you can't connect the TV to the internet this way, i meant that only you could like play Netflix on the laptop, and see it on the big tv.

Good luck.

Lol, just noticed, My name is Brad too lol :)

Where can I find a wireless adapter for internet on my tv?

Frank

I have a toshiba led tv and cant connect to the internet to watch netflix without a wifi adapter or ethernet cable. Since my tv is nowhere near the internet adapter, i need a wifi adapter to connect to internet. I looked online everywhere but couldnt find one. If you find anything, please help. Thank you

Answer
I don't think there are any products which have this capability. I do know that many stores offer extremely long cables you can use to connect devices directly to your router. They sell them in an assortment of sizes so I'm almost positive you'll find one in your size range.

What is the difference between a computer monitor and an LCD/LED TV of a similar size?

led tv 240hz
 on TV 46
led tv 240hz image

drrouter

I would like to get a large monitor for my vision considerations. What are the major differences between two similar sized TVs and Monitors?

Answer
Computer Monitors
1.) Only go up to 32''
2.) Higher Image Quality. Better at display fine text
3.) Less inputs
4.) Cheaper
5.) Are only available with a refresh rate of up to 120hz
6.) Only higher end or more expensive models can be effectively mounted

LCD/LED
1.) Can go up 80''+
2.) Dollar for dollar image quality of a LCD TV won't match a computer monitor.
(partially with help of the video card)
3.) Far more inputs. Can plug your blu-ray player and all your other devices.
4.) More expensive
5.) Are available with a refresh rate of up to 240hz
6.) Better suited to mount on walls

what's the difference between 60 hz and 120 hz when it comes to led/lcd tv's?

PLzHeLPMe

I'm looking at all these new LED (3D) LCD tv's. What does the "hz" mean? I know it has something to do with the refreshing rate but can you tell me if it's something where I can actually tell a difference? Or let me ask this... when or how can I tell a difference between the two?

Answer
Hz hertz. It's the refresh rate if each pixel. The higher the rate the less jittery and more smoothe the picture looks. But don't be fooled by tvs offering more then 120 hz because the human eye won't tell the difference so don't spend extra money on 240hz tvs. Only LCD tv apply. Plasmas never suffered from jitter

led tv troubleshooting image

Zeki A

Answer
The number of blinks on the standby and/or power LED is a code that indicates what the general problem with the TV is. Generally speaking, though, even if you knew what the codes were, these aren't the kinds of problems that a consumer can correct. You have to have a TV repair technician look at it and troubleshoot the problem.

VIZIO LED TV cable signal problems?

Pat

We have owned a VIZIO 55" LED TV (model M550SV) with no problems for almost a year now. The day before yesterday, the cable TV (which is connected via coaxial cable through a cable box) suddenly stopped working while we were watching it. For the last two days, I have beat my head against the wall trying to fix this.

This is what we have done so far:

- Tested the cable box on a different TV. It works.
- Scanned for TV, Antenna, Digital, Analog channels. Nothing.
- Reset TV to factory defaults. No change.
- Changed every cable going from the wall to the cable box to the TV. Tested again.
- Everything suggested in the user manual under troubleshooting. Nothing.
- E-mailed customer technical support. No reply.
- Called technical support. Telephone number goes to a phone tree with no option for support.

I am about at my wit's end. I'm very technically savvy and have NEVER had such a problem for such a length of time. This is the first time I've not been able to fix something myself.

I am hoping someone out there has had similar problems and can save me some time and aggravation by telling me what the problem actually is. Please help!
We did try a separate TV on the same setup and it worked fine. Similarly, anything running into the TV via HDMI, Comp or through wireless internet works fine, too. Unfortunately, the cable setup is coax only.

I'm fairly convinced it's a TV hardware problem. Believe me, I'm going to raise hell until Vizio makes this right (especially while it's under warranty.) Thanks for the answers, everyone. It was eye-opening.

Answer
Analyzing with the info you supplied.......

1. "...the cable TV (which is connected via coaxial cable through a cable box) suddenly stopped working... [and] "...Tested the cable box on a different TV. It works...." Therefore, your cable system is okay from the wall outlet and through the box. Whatever your problem is, it's not a cable problem.

2. ".....Scanned for TV, Antenna, Digital, Analog channels. Nothing....." Are we to assume that you do have a good antenna and that you previously received over-the-air channels with it okay? If you didn't, this is not a valid test.

3. Aside from the antenna test, have you tried another known good source with the TV, connected on a different input than the cable box? DVD player? VCR? Game box? The point here is to make valid tests with alternate sources to try to narrow down the culprit to a particular input or circuit on the TV.

4. "...We have owned a VIZIO 55" LED TV (model M550SV) with no problems for almost a year now...." That suggests that the set is still under its factory warranty. If you don't find a quick and practical fix from my or any other suggestions, start the warranty repair process.

On the phone tree frustration, if you don't hear an option for tech support, then pick another one until you get a human, regardless of the department. I've had to do that on occasion and was finally transferred to a customer service rep.
======================
Per your Additional Details: "....Unfortunately, the cable setup is coax only...." Given that the HDMI connections to your TV are okay, the fact that you are not connecting the cable box to the TV the same way, and can only do it via coax, suggests that it's a simple digital-to-analog converter, like the Comcast DTA -- the only output is analog on coax.

So, these questions arise:

1. Which output channel is your DTA (or whatever) optioned for: Ch. 3? Ch. 4?
2. When watching cable, do you set the TV's input to the tuner?
3. Do you select the channel that matches the cable box's output (3 or 4)?
4. Have you tried testing your tuner with another source? In your case, a VCR would be ideal?

Since I've only guessed above that you are using a DTA or similar, in the event you have a conventional cable box with the usual multiple outputs, why are you connecting to the TV with coax? The preferred choices would be, in order, HDMI - component - composite - coax.
