What tv is good for gaming? (im looking for a good tv that an sbox 360's graphics are good on)?

Andrew Coo

Im looking for a tv under $800

Answer
your in luck. there are plenty of TVs out there under 800 dollars! As long as it 720p to 1080i/p Hi-Def, are all equally as good as the most expensive TVs. But be warned! do not get a plasma TV! they may be cheap but have a low lifespan and burn out easily and expensive to replace parts! LCD's are a perfect standard and affordable! LED TV are a bit more expensive and thiner but offer more colors and near the 800$ mark while LCDs are around 200$ to 600$ depending on brand and size. Also there isn't much difference between 780p and 1080i/p so don't let that turn you down or a major deciding factor! Also look into "Hertz aka Hz" in your tv which I think is refresh rate which makes your games "look" smoother which is nice but very little difference but still noticeable

75 hertz refresh rate?

Sean

Is it possible to get 75 hertz or more with 1920x1080x? I am currently running this resolution only in 60 hertz. When I switch to 1280x1024 it will run at 75hertz. Am I being limited by my video card or is it the monitor?

I am using a BenQ RL2455HM 24" LED LCD Monitor - 16:9

Thanks in advance!

-Sean

Answer
Within the context of your question, Leigh is wrong. In it's most crudest definition a refresh rate is how many times the screen is capable of redrawing images during a second. This is not to be confused with FPS or frames per second. Your monitor is only capable of doing that 60 times per second. GFX cards can be set to display at different refresh rates but it's the monitor that may or may not accept those settings which might cause an out of range or other error. Your spec page says 60Hz so in this case you are being limited by your monitor. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/benq-24-lcd-monitor/1307344927.p?id=mp1307344927&skuId=1307344927#tab=specifications

Native Resolution(1920 x 1080)
Screen Refresh Rate60HzThis refers to how many times per second a TV screen image is completely reconstructed. A TV with a 60Hz refresh rate means that the picture will be completely rebuilt 60 times in one second. Why is this important? Generally, the more the screen is refreshed, the smoother the images will appear.

whats the best 3d tv out there?

Anthony E

I'm looking to buy a 3dtv Ive heard led TV and 240htz and 1080p is the one to go with anybody no when to buy this kind of TV like time of year what seems to be the best one to buy and stuff like this thanks for the help oh i want one 50" or bigger or i might be able to settle for less if its really worth it thank you

Answer
I will give you my thoughts...

The LED 3D TV will offer the least power consumption over a plasma, but in my own opinion and experience, the best picture quality will always come from a plasma screen. the LED/LCD 3D TVs are LED backlit only, giving them good black levels, but picture can look quite washy.

The plasma screens are coated with anti-glare and the contrast ratios are upto 5,000,000:1 now, offering the best black/white levels. I could go on comparing their pro's and cons, but, to be honest, you should go and demo them in the shop.

The Panasonic TXP50VT20 is a superb 3D model. Panasonic uses the active glasses system, offering the best 3D experience of all the 3D systems around. Their plasma screens/TVs are (in my opinion) the best on the market, offering intelligent frame creation, isfccc, the THX setting (allowing 600Htz) etc, etc.. the list goes on.

As for when to buy, there coming down in price already. No doubt when you decide to buy, 2 weeks later it will be £100 cheaper... thats sods law for you. Your best bet though is to be on your toes and look around. Their not cheap... but new technology never is.

The TXP42GT20 is equally a great model (but only 42") they go for around £1000, but I bet you could find one cheaper if you look around.

I would highly recommend a 5yr warranty also (these are quite often thrown in as part of the purchase these days).... NOT BECAUSE OF UNRELIABILITY, only because, as everyone knows, things can go wrong with products that are used on a daily basis. thats all. The only reason I mention this is because if you spend a fortune on a TV and, heaven forbid - it goes faulty, then you dont wanna be stung with another bill.

Good luck, and enjoy which ever you decide upon.

What is the best TV following the requirements below?

Jeremy

Listed by importance.
Anti-glare,
Good view from different angles,
HDMI,
Good Audio.
Internet connection isn't absolutely necessary.
Size doesn't matter.

Answer
This may help you decide:

1. Anti-glare: avoid a plasma set.

2. Good from different angles: avoid an LCD or "LED" set (get a plasma set).

3. HDMI: just about any modern TV will have one or more HDMI inputs.

4. Good audio: just about *none* of modern TVs have really good audio. If that's of high importance, plan on using a sound bar or home theater system with it. That said, the best audio from internal speakers comes from those with speakers, in order of preference, (1) mounted in the front or (2) mounted on the back panel. Avoid anything with speakers mounted on the bottom edge--the worst possible audio.

can you mount a led tv?

I wanna buy a led tv but i wanna just know if can be mounted on the wall.
And besides, when will 3d tv prices be low?

All current TVs marketed as "LED" are just LCDs with LED backlight. The should have standard flat-panel mounting options, which is VESA mount holes a standard mount can bolt to, or a stand on the bottom.

Why is the picture on my LED flat screen tv snowy after mounted on wall?

Sweetie ca

I bought a 32" Westinghouse LED Slim TV this past christmas and finally got around to hanging it on our wall with a universal wall mount unit. It works well but after a couple of hours the screen shows snowy lines all over the screen. If I remove it from the bracket and stand it on the base instead, the picture is back to normal, but it does it all over again once it's hung back on the wall. Could it be that the tv can't handle the pressure of being hung? it doesn't make sense since it's a flat screen and should be hung to begin with. Right? what should I do? could it be the wall mount unit? Please help, I'm not very TV savy and don't know what to do...
oh yes, I have Direct TV as my service provider, so I get my signal through Satellite.

Answer
OK before I go further, this wall mount isn't above a working fireplace is it? (or any other heat generating appliance?). Heat will cause all sorts of problems. If it is above a heat generating device, you will have to relocate it somewhere else.

If not heat then you probably have some sort of intermittent loose connection in your tv that is only evident when mounted on the wall. Wall mounting vs standing on the base causes different types of chassis flexing. This flexing is putting pressure on something inside of your set that is causing the snowy lines. All flat screen tv's that I am aware of have VESA standard mounting holes for attaching to wall mounts. If you have attached it correctly, it cannot be the wall mount that is the problem. If possible I would exchange the set for a new one. If you cannot then I would have the repair guy come out under warranty to fix it.

Why shouldnt ICC ban Pakistan cricket for bringing the cricket game into disrepute?

I am sure most people from Pakistan will agree....something drastic should be done! This keeps on happening. How will we ever know what is genuine and what is not?

Answer
Initially I did not take your question seriously because of whatever knowledge I had of the Britishers falsely implicating Asians into such scandals. But after seeing the TV footage, I was shocked. However, I believe the whole matter should be thoroughly investigated both by Pakistan cricket Board for involvement of the cricketers as well as by the Government of India for involvement of the Indian bookies. Whoever are found guilty should be severely dealt with as this involves the prestige of the nations.

I recall two instances of accusations on prominent Indians in London. One is a well known case involving Ms. Nargis Dutt, wife of highly respected Late Indian MP, Mr. Sunil Dutt. She was accused of a theft from a store in Britain. It used to be often reported in the newspapers. Those days TV was not there. I recall having read a letter to the editor by Ms Nargis Dutt how agrieved she was for this accusation which was false and was being often reported. It was a long letter and though I do not remember its exact contents, I had the feeling of it being pure truth.

Another instance was with an opening Indian batsman who was in the Indian cricket team led by Mr.Ajit Wadekar in which Mr. Bishen Singh Bedi was the vice-captain. He was also accused of theft of a pair of stocks from a store and penalised by small causes court. In the match that followed, he had amassed more than 80 runs as an opener. AS he was working in the same department where I was employed in a Tata concern, we, some of his colleagues, took him to a restaurant and asked his clarification on the incident. He pleaded not guilty saying that all that he had purchased was in the basket and he just did not bother to check if the lady at the billing counter counted all items. He paid the bill trusting it to be correct and later at the exit, he was stopped and his bill was checked with the items and asked to explain why there was no mention of the pair of socks in it. Since he could not explain it, it was treated as a theft and was taken to the court and fined. We enquired with him why he did not fight his case if he was not at fault. His contention was that in the first place, in the small causes court, it is quite difficult to defend and the judge just keeps on doubling the fine if you disagree. If he is lucky, he may be allowed to go to the higher court. But even in that case, he would be required to stay back in England to fight his case at his cost that he could not have afforded. So as advised by his lawyer, he thought it practical to just pay the small fine and forget about it. The same team was invited for dinner by the Indian ambassador, Mr. B. K. Nehru, in their honour. They reached late for the dinner because of traffic jam. Mr. Nehru was angry and scolded the team in presence of the guests even without asking the cause of late arrival. Mr. Wadekar was too humble a person to face this embarassing situation. But Mr. Bedi was not the one to tolerate the high-handedness of the stateman. He advised Mr. Wadekar to return back to the hotel without participation in the dinner. Finally, the matter was settled but with bitterness in the minds of the cricketers. In fact, the incident of theft was also at the back of Mr. Nehru's irritation.

Now, I narrate my own incident in USA. It was my first trip and I had gone to a mall where I asked my son to buy a small paper pad which I needed to solve math problems when I am at home. He did it at a cost of $ 2/- This was lying at the bottom of the basket and the lady on the billing counter did not see it and did not count. Normally, people are not checked at the gate, but that day we were checked and this error was found. Recalling my colleague's experience in UK, I felt that this might cause a problem for me. But the lady who checked and found it realised the possibility of the error and just politely asked us to make the payment and did not make an issue of it. I do not know what would have happened to me if it happened in London. I advised my son that day to always check to ensure that all items bought are paid for.

Of course, these instances are not cited to prove that the cricketers and bookies involved may be innocent, but if proved guilty, they should be severely dealt with for tarnishing the image of the countries they represent.

best 32 inches led tv in india?

avi

I got confused after checking many TV Review Websites and finally want an expert advice regarding this. I want value for money product. My budget is 45,000 -/

Answer
Hi, I just bought a 32 inch LCD TV of Videocon two days ago just for Rs.24000. Let me give you some advice regarding LED and LCD TV's.

I saw LCD and LED TV's of all brands with all technical details.
My advice to you that don't buy LED TV. There is nothing available like original LED TV's in India. They are almost fake. Buying LED TV would be a total waste of money. You won't get the natural color appearance in LED TV and they usually are in the range of Rs.50000.

You should only go with the FULL HD 1080 LCD TV.

In LCD's also, let me tell you that you should go only with the LCD's of Videocon. No doubt, the LCD TV's of Samsung, Sansui and Sony are also very good, but they will charge you 10-20 thousand more for the same TV. Why give more money only for brand name when you are getting the same TV at a much lower cost.

So I would advice you to buy Videocon LCD TV if you want it low cost and best. Buy LCD of VRL series and not VLL series. I guarantee you 100% satisfaction, as I myself have bought it.

LED is a complete waste of money. Sony has taken back 1000 LED TV's back due to defects. Buying LED would be advisable only after 1-2 years.

Though if you want to buy LED anyway, you must only buy of Sony and no other company like Videocon. But I don't think LED's come in the range of 45000 Rs.

The best one in LCD would be Videocon VRL 32EBN or VRL32 FBM or VRL32GBM. I have bought EBN series.

Thanks, hope it helps you in buying.

LCD, LED or Plasma for gaming?

me123

We're getting a new tv soon (it's going into the room with the PS3), and it's going to be 40-42". For gaming, should we get a Plasma, LED or LCD? LCD seem the cheapest for the best reviews, and I can't find any decent plasmas on amazon that aren't over 500 quid. LED seems too expensive.

I suppose my real question is: Is a 50 Hz 40 inch LCD which has a cheap price but GREAT reviews worth getting for gaming?

Thanks

Answer
if you use LED you will have the best gaming experience, but it is not worth it, bc now is coming out O-LED, that is flexible LED, so the LED price will drop ;D
so i would get a 1080i projector, bc it is a 1080, you can take it anywhere and it can project up to 300"
its a better deal i think...
if you cant afford it, get a 100 hz LCD bc now PS3 has 3D
ps: if you have a 100hz tv, you can use nVidia's 3D kit on your pc too

Ways to trick out my LCD TV/Xbox 360 Set up?

Cheese

I just bought a modded 360 controller w/ blue leds and rapid fire. The things people can do are so cool...

Has anyone every tricked out your gamming room w/ lights that flash with the sound or so other crazy effects??? id love to know!!

Things i can buy on ebay maybe!!!

Answer
If you have Rockband, the Stage Kit is the ultimate set up. Comes with a smoke machine, strobe lights and LED lights including red, blue, green and yellow, all synchronized with the game. Makes patterns on the wall and lasers through the smoke.

A cheap way to make lights blink with the games is to take a chrismas light and snip it out of a chain of old lights, preferably ones that aren't being used anymore. If you snip it out right you should have 2 wires extending from the light. Make sure you have about 2 inches of each wire. Strip the ends to expose the copper then on the back of the speaker place one end in each the red and black inserts. The bass or loudness will trigger the light, it's pretty cool. Another way of doing it is making the current of the positive OR the negative run through the light. You can repeat this process with every speaker.

Do Led tvs have less motion blur than LCD?

Megan

I have been playing my xbox 360 on an older model non hdtv. I finally decided to upgrade to an Hd model and bought an Emerson LCD. When I began testing it out it looked beautiful, then I moved my character. The whole screen seemed to blur up every time I moved. After just a few minutes of playing I feel kind of queasy. I was wondering if an LED tv would have less blur, or should I just go back to my old tv if I dont want to get motion sick?

Answer
You can try things like playing in game mode and setting your xbox to output your tv's native resolution. But here's the answer to your question:
Continuing from ioerr's answer, it's not the backlight (led or fluorescent) that determines motion blur, it's how fast the lcd pixels can change from letting a little light through, to letting a lot through. This is called response time. There are some tricks with leds to improve it like flashing them on and off rapidly but how bad the motion blur is, is really determined by the tv model. In Jessica Timms' answer, she probably has a higher end tv and that's why the motion blur is better, not because it's an led.

Of course, led tvs tend to be more expensive so the manufacturer is more likely to spend more time on improving specs like motion blur. So it's one of those things where it ends up being true, but not for the reason you think :) Response time has improved a lot over the years and I've seen lcd (led or not) tvs with no noticeable motion blur. I don't know how good a reputation Emerson has for this problem. It might be the brand or your specific model.

Another thing often mentioned with motion blur is increased refresh rate like 120hz or 240hz. It's supposed to improve motion blur but it's really more of an effect on film judder (film judder is slight choppiness from trying to make film's 24 frames per second fit into tv's 30 or 60. They all fit evenly into 120). Some manufacturers and tv owners say it makes the motion blur less noticeable. If that's true, it's good since perception is everything. But I think it's better to just have a tv with better response time.

Plasma tvs don't have noticeable motion blur so that might be a better option for what you need. They do have their own problems of course. They're darker and lose more brightness over time, they're more vulnerable to screen burn-in (better than it used to be but still there), they run hotter and use more electricity, etc. There are lots of pro/con lists on the internet. Any hd tv can have input lag problems too: the time between sending a signal to the tv (like a controller button press) and when it shows up on the screen. So that's something else to think about for gaming. Good old crt is sounding pretty nice right now, huh? :)

So I guess my advice, if you decide to change your tv, is to read reviews and look at the tvs on display in stores and try to find one with decent motion blur. Sorry this was so long, ha.

LED Tv question (motion blur?)?

Trevor

Tv: brand new out of the box Vizio M470VSE

Specs that may be relevant to issue:
- refresh rate: 120hz
- tv type: LED

I'm having two issues and need to know how to fix them (go into the settings or return the product kinda thing)

PROBLEM 1: Im noticing something that i'll call motion blur. This only occurs during fast pace seens, i usually see it during fighting seens in movies, sometimes when someone is running it kinda appears that their outline faintly appears behind them. Is there a way to fix this?

PROBLEM 2: Lag. I enjoy playing my playstation 3, black ops. however i have noticed a slight lag between controller and tv. Some are telling me its because of the high refresh rate. That the PS3 can only output 60hz instead of the 120hz. Is there a way for me to improve the lag?
Answer#1: I just went through my settings, i cannot find either of those
Also Answer #1: When I go to <menu> then hit <picture> I get the basic settings to adjust such as (brightness, contrast, sharpness, color and tint). I also have presets that range from "vivid", "normal", "rich" etc; Now when i go to advanced (which is where i presume the settings your suggesting would be, i get (noise reduction which is set to "low", Mpeg NR which is also set to "low", color enhancement which is "normal", adaptive luma which is "medium", film mode which is "off", back light control which is "off" and ambient light sensor which is also set to off. any more ideas as to what to check??

P.S. im not sure if this is relevant but im using an HDMI cord aswell. i believe its a 3.0 cord.
Answer#2: I still can't seem to find the Smooth Motion effect.

Here are my options under ADVANCED PICTURE:
noise reduction
Mpeg NR
Color enhancement
Adaptive luma,
film mode
back light control
ambient light sensor

Answer
Motion blur is an artifact inherent to the technologies slow response time. You can turn up the refresh rate of the display to combat it, but then you will loose the film "feel" of the movie and everything starts to look like a soap opera. Kind of like it was shot with a camcorder.

For the gaming lag you need to do the opposite. You need to turn off the higher refresh rate to eliminate any extra processing the TV is doing. More processing means more time until you see it. You can also turn on "game" or "entertainment" mode to help reduce this even further.

Game mode on your TV is one of the options in the picture menu ( standard, movie, game, vivid)

The adjustment for motion blur is in the advanced picture options menu. It's called smooth motion effect on your TV. Use off for gaming and set to taste for everything else.

Hope that helps.

Which one do you think should i buy?
I know LG is a good brand for pc monitors but what about Philips and Asus?
by the way, which is better LED or LCD? in terms of Lifespan on number of hours?
I need your advice guys, thank you.

Answer
ASUS is my personal favorite brand, but Samsung is generally the most popular. I have had many Phillips monitors/tvs in the past and they do seem to be slightly lower quality (but still very good). I personally would go for the 17 inch LG with the 1440x900 resolution or the 18.5 ASUS 1366x768 resolution. The higher the resolution is the more stuff you will be able to see on the screen and having a larger screen makes the things you can see on the screen larger. Sorry for the wordy response.

I have a budget of (under) $500. What TV should I buy?

Brad Clarc

And please leave a url. Thanks1

Answer
I would recommend you get a Panasonic Plasma tv. They are the most reliable tv in the market today. Panasonic has more tv being recommended than any manufacturer. Panasonic 42" S30 should be around the budget you have. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD and LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

What is the best T.V under 500$?

SaMeR

i 've been meaning to buy a tv and i have about 500 $ ... i like to buy a 3d tv and i found those plasmas
http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/televisions/LG-plasma-tv-42PW350.jsp
&
http://www.samsung.com/my/consumer/television/television/plasma-tv/PS43D490A1XXM/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail
but some people say that those tvs are only 720 p which is not good enough for xbox games and stuff ... so tell me what you recommend under 500 $ and i want big tv not less than 37'' ... also What is the difference between led 3ds and plasma 3d ... what's better ?

Answer
i dont think you could find a 3D tv for that price but i would get a 1080p LED tv. with high Hz 120 or more. Plasma tv look good but they dont really make plasmas under 40in. they lose quality over time and can have image burn in. and the diffrence is the technology led (light emmiting diod) are a combo of lcd wih led back lighting this makes higher color, contrast, and brightness and could last longer than lcd. plasma uses compressed gas to make the image.

comparison LCD vs LED tv?

nick murph

Is there a huge difference in picture quality and longevity between the two? I found a really good deal for a LCD but i don't know if i should get it because it's not LED. Please explain the difference and if it is worth getting a LCD. Thanks

Answer
Well - for starters...LED tv's actually are LCD TV's...it's just the current atmosphere of marketing has everyone thinking that they are completely different (like Plasma vs LCD).

Where the difference comes in between the 2 is in it's light source. In the traditional LCD TV...the lighting of the screen came from CCFL's (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps). In the LED version...the light source comes from small LED's (either behind the screen or around the edge...which is why you will see some advertised as "Edge-Lit LED").

As far as which is better...it really depends. For the most part, LED is going to be the superior light source over the standard LCD. Additionally, the LED is going to have much better contrast, black levels, white levels and viewing angles. They also tend to be mroe energy efficient.

These days...the LCD (at least the classic LCD) is pretty much on it's way out. Production costs have come down for the LED technology and marketing/advertising has all but completely forgotten the LCD. The only real advantage you will find in the LCD is the price...and even that is not much of a difference any more.

Difficult comparison on purchasing a New LED TV?

alex l

I'm going to buy a new LED Tv I'm choosing between a Samsung 6400 55'' or a Toshiba 55'' Regza
Both LED Samsung priced at $2300 and toshiba @ $1700
Toshiba is 240hz
Samsung is 120Hz
Why is the samsung so much more expensive?
Samsung here
http://reviews.us.samsung.com/7463/UN55C6400RFXZA/un55c6400-55-1080p-led-hdtv-new-reviews/reviews.htm?sort=featured
Toshiba Here
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-REGZA-55ZV650U-55-Inch-ClearScan/dp/B001TOD3JQ

Answer
Samsung 6400 55 is LED TV.
Toshiba 55 regza is LCD TV.
LED TV prices is always high.but much better in total pictures quality. use 40 % less consumptions than LCD TV.
LED TV 120 HZ is enough to hide away the motion blur. because the LED display panel is 2 ms g to g Response time.
Big screen LCD display panel usually is 5 or 6 g to g standard Response time. even 240 HZ unable to fully cover the motion blur.
plaease check again. the Toshiba is LCD TV not LED TV.??
LED TV Samsung all the way never go wrong.

Gaming on a 19" inch led tv?

Sebastian

Would i be able to do this and still get good resolution. ATM I'm using a 15,6 inch laptop screen.

Answer
The resolution from any source on a screen that small will be excellent. A bigger concern is the set's specs that are important for gaming: a refresh rate of 120 hz or more (100 in Europe) and a response time something less than 5 or 6 ms., and 2 ms. is better.

These are upgrades to any basic LED/LCD set, but they are important in gaming or in watching fast-action sports.

What's causing my eye strain w/ LED TV?

nonbasic03

I just bought a 19" LED TV off of Amazon and have found myself getting headaches and nauseous when watching it. It feels like my sinuses just seize up and clench my face. I've been playing around with the settings, but nothing seems to alleviate the strain. I'm sitting about 90" from it (just over 7' from the couch to the base of the TV). Is it too far away from me? My girlfriend doesn't seem to be having issues.

I don't think I have LED sensitivity because my computer monitor is a 22" Viewsonic w/ LED backlight and my headaches clear up nearly instantly when I come and sit not even an arm's length away from it.

Any tips to help me out would be greatly appreciated. The last thing I want to do is spend a ton to return it.

Thanks

Answer
Probably the distance from the small TV..! Seven feet from a 19 inch TV must make a rather small picture.... Try running the brightness down a bit also..

What is the difference between a Lcd tv and a Led tv?

Some guy

Im getting one for crimbo, also what is a plasma tv, i want the best one stated

Answer
LCD and LED tvs use exactly the same display but they are lit differently.

LCDs use lights a bit like 'cold cathodes' to light up the screen, but LED, as its name suggests uses an array of LEDs either behind the screen (backlit) or around the edges of the tv behind the bezel (edge-lit).

LCD tvs are cheaper to buy initially but on estimation cost roughly 30-40% more to run than the equivelant sized LED backlit screen.

Also LEDs can be turned off independently, so you get deeper blacks on the screen.

Plasma is a tv which uses gas and light phosphors to produce a picture. They use on average 60% more electricity than LED backlit tvs, and also most of them suffer from reflection from room lighting or sunlight. There is one slight plus side in that they are the cheapest to buy of the three nowadays when comparing size for size.

If you must get a Plasma get a Panasonic G series or above, since these are about the same energy effiency as a regular LCD but also have an different perspex on the screen so that it is less reflective, which allows more vivid colours to be seen on screen. Many people still believe that Plasma TVs are best at motion and have more realistic colour on flesh tones. These TVs however are priced at about the same level as LED tvs.

Lcd, plasma, or led??

Some Guy

Which kind of tv is best?

Answer
LED because:
- They allow for deeper blacks, brighter whites and more vibrant, vivid colours because of the very high contrast ratio, making lighting and overall picture more realistic, and blacks are almost pure black when watching TV in the dark, unlike plasma and lcd where it is a washed out grey
- LED TV's are more efficient as less energy is needed to power them
- LED TV's are able to be made much thinner than lcds and plasmas because of its properties (less panels are needed with LED tvs such as diffuser panels and lighting tubes, which take up lots of thickness)
- LED TV's offer a more crisp, sharper images because less panels are needed. With Samsung LED TVs, they don't add an extra glass layer like you have to do with lcds and plasmas, so you get a clearer, sharper picture, and see a pure, vivid picture.

Looking for a good 40-42 inch LED TV?

jake

I am in the market for a 40-42 inch television. I am looking for one in the $500-550 range, and I am leaning towards more reliable brands. What would you guys recommend?

Answer
The Samsung pn4500 plasma display is getting very high tech and consumer reviews. Bestbuy $398 on sale. This is not a smart tv. We game heavily between my two sons and I and they both have this display. Great picture and perfomance. They love it. They both switched over from lg. Go to cnet, avforum and home thearter magazine for more info.

32 inch LED TV vs 42 inch? Which is better for Gaming?

Jake

IT DEPENDS ON THE PIXELS, SMALLER THE TV WITH THE SAME PIXELS IS BETTER, THE BIGGER THE TV THE MORE YOUR EYES WILL MISS OUT REQUIRING A HIGHER CONCENTRATION LEVEL MAKING YOU TIRED, IMAGINE PLAYING CALL OF DUTY ON A 60 INCH TV, 32 IS A GOOD SIZE, I PLAY ON A 20 INCH, IF YOUR NOT COMPETITIVE THO AND WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY THE GAMING EXPERIENCE THE BIGGER TV IS BETTER.

LG LED TV display issues?

Kevin

I bought an 42" LG LED TV just over two weeks ago second hand, so it's out of warranty as it's a 2009 model. I got a good deal on it, but now I'm having some issues. The picture will come on for a few seconds and then disappear. All connections are good, HDMI, and AVI, so that's not the issue. And the Backlight stays on, so that's not an issue as well. The screen literally just goes to a backlit dark blue/ black and I can still receive sound. So it's just some kind of display issue. I was just wondering if this were a small issue and if so around how much it'd cost to fix it? Thanks.
Also, it worked perfectly fine up until maybe a week ago so it was not sold as faulty.

Answer
Any chance your TV is a Smart TV with Internet connection?

I had a similar problem with my LG 55LM6200. Problem started 1 week after I bought it after a Software Update was downloaded. LG customer service had me re-initialize (reset) the TV. That cleared out the update and fixed the issue. Not sure if this is the case with yours...but it's worth a shot. Not sure how to do it though if you can't see the screen...but here's the instructions they gave me.

1. Press the Home button on the LG remote.
2. Select Setting and press Enter.
3. Go to Option and press Enter. Scroll down to Initial Setting and press Enter.
4. Allow the TV to reboot.

I know the other answerer had issues with LG customer service...but my experience with them has been quite well. Had a response to my emails on the same day and the agent who was assigned to me was really easy to get a hold of. I would register the product on LG.com as well...as it seems doing things through their website is really fast if your registered.

Are LG led tv's any good?

gracelyn52

Im planning on buying a new tv for my hubby, he loves watching movies and on occasion he plays his ps3. I was thinking of buying this tv http://www.walmart.com/ip/LG-47LE5400/13904856 it has really good reviews, 4 million to 1 contrast ratio and a 120hz refresh rate. Its also an led, original prise is 1,700 dollars but its on sale for 1,100. it almost sounds to good to be true, would this tv be good to go along with his ps3?

Answer
LED TV's are the best for any environment/room you put it in and basically LG is a god sent, I have a gaming PC monitor by LG and i freaking love it, its just awesome, and the price sounds pretty decent too and those are some really nice features for a TV, so yes, Id recommend it.

What is the best TV for gaming on an Xbox 360?

Q. If you know any exact names of good TVs please tell them to me.

Answer
Go for LED LCD TV's . These TV's have contrasts and colors on par with
a plasma and Video games look much better on a plasma than LCD. But
also LED uses 40% less electricity than regular LCD's and plasma's. These
LED TV's are rated very high in picture quality. ( Also 1080p is only good if
you want a screen larger than 40 inches, below that a 720p LED would save
you money and do good).

Samsung and Sony are good quality brand for LCD tv.
The new 2010 model form Sony, the EX series are good to get

LED or LCD for Gaming?

Jim M

2 Samsung TV's, both 40" with identical specs. One is LCD and the other is LED. The LED is $400 more. Is it worth it?

The TV I am specifically buying for Skyrim, so I want the best looking and performing for gaming. I am going to hook this TV up to my computer to play Skyrim with ULTRA graphics. I already upgraded my computer, now I want a TV that will show me the best possible graphics my computer will be dishing out.

It may also see some FPS like MW3.
The reason I don't want the Plasma, is I will be playing Skyrim for 12 hours a day no doubt, without a break. The is certainly enough time to burn in images on the screen, for example icons that always stay on the screen when you play a game, and they never move. For example health bar, or compass, ect. Also, the TV will new, so that's the must susceptible time for burn in.

I was hoping for more opinions. But right now I may end up going LCD it looks like.

Answer
LCD and LED are the same thing just different back lighting they still suffer from all the draw backs of a LCD for gaming and fast motion

Plasma all the way-Only thing Plasma Starts at 42" and goes up
-better and deeper blacks
-wider off angle viewing
-awesome for fast motion-600Hz refresh rate while the top LCDs/LEDs are only 240Hz-Best for gaming and sports watching
with a LCD you will have to drop it to 60Hz for gaming to help eliminate the lag
-No burn in-on new plasmas-was a problem 5 years ago
-they do use more power than the LCDs-But really if you cant afford the possible 3-5 bucks a month in and increase in your power bill-You do not need to be buying a big tv to begin with.
-The short life people are talking about equals about 10-15 years of watching. really who wont buy a new tv in 10 freaking years???
-I have my 65" Hung about 4' from a 72" window and even with the blinds open i have no trouble seeing it or get any annoying reflections. But The ceiling light that is behind the couch will reflect off it at night.

Right now the top Plasmas are made by Panasonic(according to Cnet, consumer reports and a few home video mags). Right now 50" 1080p ( i own this one and the 65" version) at best buy USA around 899 for the 50" 720p is 599

LED tvs are just a LCD with a LED back light instead of Florissant tubes!!!!!!!!!!
LED tvs ARE JUST LCD with different backlighting they still suffer all the drawbacks of LCD but are just brighter

How do you connect your 3d glasses (ssg-5100gb) that came w/ my 72" samsung LED F8000 2013 tv?

Lauren Fri

How do you connect your 3d glasses (ssg-5100gb) that came w/ my 72" samsung LED F8000 2013 tv? We followed all direction to activate glasses by putting battery chip + side up and holding top button down for 3 seconds. We already had the 3D movie playing before we even set up glasses. We tried the entire brand new set with each new battery & nothing? Is there anything were missing?

Answer
In order to get it to work the TV needs to be in 3d mode. You don't even need a 3d movie. Just hit the 3d button on the remote to turn on 3d. Then the glasses should turn on.

You can try to do the Auto Search function the U-verse remote has to find a code for your TV.

If you have the standard AT&T U-verse Silver remote then follow these instructions:
1. Press and hold down the "TV' button.
2. While holding down the "TV' button press and release the "OK" button and release the "TV' button. (note: all four lights should flash red at the top of the remote)
3. Press the numbers 922
4. Continually press the "PLAY" button till the TV turns on/off
5. Press the "ENTER" button to save the code

If you have the standard AT&T U-verse Black remote then follow these instructions:
1. Press and hold down the "TV' button.
2. While holding down the "TV' button press and release the "ENTER" button and release the "TV'
4. Continually press the "FF" or "FAST FORWARD" button till the TV turns on/off
5. Press the "ENTER" button to save the code

You can test to see of the remote is working now by pressing the "TV" button then the "POWER" button to see if it will turn the TV back on/off

If this does not work for you can find the instructions and manual codes for this remote online at:

LED Flat Screen TV or LCD Flat Screen TV?

MarcoR

My family wants to buy a 50" for the living room. Which would be better to buy and why? And Sony, Samsung, or LG? I would like expert advice or close enough to.

Answer
First, understand that what mfgrs are calling LED are actually LCD also. Older LCDs are lit by CCFL - Cold Cathode FLuorescent - tube lights; more recent LCDs are lit by LED - Light Emitting Diodes. LED-lit have numerous advantages - newer tech, lower power consumption, higher contrast ratios, many say brighter, richer colors (I think so), and the ability to do "local dimming". There are two types of LED-lit: Edge-lit and Back-lit. The advantages to edge-lit is the lights are arrayed around the screen, reducing the need for lights behind it making for thinner ("razor") case - sometimes only 1/2" thick. But back-lit (usually more expensive, all other things being equal - size, etc) has more precise control of local dimming. One of the problems all LCDs face is inability to produce Black well (for technical reasons). Local dimming allows for actual dimming of the light source on an area-by-area basis, easier to do on back-lit than edge-lit, providing darker darks, something CCFLs can't do.
See here for further discussions:

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/lcd-vs-led-vs-plasma.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED-backlit_LCD_display

CCFLs will most likely last much longer than 5 - 7 years - they already have. But LEDs (and they don't have to be over-driven - you have some control over this in the Settings/Backlight menu) - well it's actually hard to know how long they'll last, as they haven't been around long enough to find out - all ratings now are estimates based on testing. Suffice to say they will last much longer than when they'll be woefully obsolete (4K, 8K and OLEDs are coming!). Hope this helps...
Oh, all the major brands are good - Samsung has recently been getting the best reviews, but let your eyes be your guide. Panasonic is good, even Vizio (!).
