I kind of want to get an Led tv but the cheapest one is like $1300. I definatly want a samsung though, that is my brand of tvs. I was just wondering if the Led tv lives up to all the hype and is actually worth the high price you pay for them???
I mostly game on my tv is it a good gaming tv?

Answer
There is no one here who can answer any question on "worth". Sure, I LED TV offers some significant performance improvements, but "worth" is only something which you can evaluate. And if you are really a drunk college kid whose life revolves around gaming, you have larger problems other than an LED TV in my opinion.

How should I arrange home theater system around fireplace?

Guo C

I would like to buy a 5.1 home theater system and a LED TV. My desired place to watch it is in family room with a fireplace. I know I could hang the TV above fireplace but not sure about the home theater (Blue ray DVD player, receiver and speakers). I would also like the wires be concealed.

Thanks.

Answer
Use a private company, thasts what I did in my house for ALL my televisions / my home theater. Not sure where you live but the company i used was dhdpros.com | Private companies will never rip you off and generally use the greatest technology. (my house uses a program called "Control 4" i can turn off my kids' bedroom lights / TVs from the basement.)

And also, the fire won't affect it. If you want a picture of my hearth room ill send you one.

Can setting the contrast/backlight settings on my LED TV to a high value damage it? Also what are the optimal settings for safe use?

Answer
High brightness will cause the back lights to wear out sooner. This is common with any LCD device (even your iPod). "Optimum" is somewhat subjective. The factory settings are OK for most home users.

there's a leak in my apartment building and it dripped onto my tv?

malysah

my tv is now broken. how can i make them pay to replace it?
it's either a pipe leak from the apartment above me, or it is poor sealing from the outside of the building. i had maintenance come today and they didn't tell me much or do much of anything for me yet. they went upstairs and are investigating the leak. i told them about my tv and showed them the water damage and they didn't say anything about that either. it is a 27" flatscreen tv. about $400 or so.
i don't know who lives above me, but i don't feel right blaming it on them really either. i'm a college student and i live alone and don't have much money at all so having the tv replaced is somewhat important to me.
thank you all for your help so far. i truly appreciate it. this is my first apartment and i'm clueless. i don't have renter's insurance.
also, i was out of town when the leak happened. i was gone for a week and when i returned i immediately noticed the damage.
thanks again.

Answer
It all depends on who was responsible for repairs. Typically in lease situations the landlord is responsible for maintaining the common areas of the building while the tenant is responsible for all things internal to their rental - including the pipes. So, if the pipes that broke or what led to the failure in the pipes or plumbing was contained in the common areas of the building then your landlord pays. If the fault was of another tenant (i.e., pipes in their apartment) then they are liable. And if it was your own pipes then you are responsible but you could always argue that you always used the plumbing in a reasonable way (no teddy bear ever got accidentaly flushed down your toilet for example) and because of "poor maintenance" on the part of the landlord the pipes burst or whatever. Good luck. BTW, whoever you decide to sue, you can replace the TV and then get reimbursed but remember the reimbursement value must be reasonable for the court to uphold what you paid for the TV (no going from an RCA 13" tv to a 52" Plasma - you know). In closing if you own, or are part of a homeowner's association as an owner then you gotta cover the loss yourself unless you can show negligence in the maintenance by someone else. Good luck.

My dad wants to buy a plasma tv whats the best brand and why?

Answer
1 ) Pioneer Plasma is WORLD BEST HDTV ! * compare to LCD / Plasma HDTV . Vote by 95 % of World AV magazine ( Europe / UK / USA / Asia ) * but very high price, and Pioneer will left TV Business in next 6 months ).http://www.cnbc.com/id/23458312
2 ) Panasonic is the only Japan TV manufactures keen to continue Plasma TV. Panasonic Invest / research new Plasma Display Technology with Tsukuba University ( is Japan Government Project joint also with Fujitsu-Hatachi Display ). Even Pioneer Plasma TV use Panasonic made Plasma Display panel . ( after 2007 mid products ).Panasonic made Plasma TV from End to End . all by OWN. is Great Plasma TV compare to Pioneer ! but very reasonable in prices !
3 ) Samsung / LG also manufactures Quality Plasma TV. but Korea Plasma technology is not great compare to Japan ( LCD / LED--YES ).
4 ) You will get some Answer that " do not buy Plasma tv ". Those people do not up-date technology, will think Plasma is Bad !
5 ) Panasonic New Plasma TV use New Technology ! with Anti Burn In systems ! life time for Plasma Display as good as LCD display . is up to 60,000 hours ! Power consumption is between 260 W. ( old type 40 inc Plasma tv is more than 350 W , but is become history )
* Just for you info. next new Generation Panasonic Plasma TV ( should be out in 2 years time ). a 50 inc Plasma power consumption is only 140 W ,better than 50 inc LCD TV as 200 W / close to LED tv 120 W *
Panasonic Plasma is TOP / next will be Samsung / LG. quality okay too ! never TOUCH other Brand !

How does using a projector compare to using a large LED TV for watching movies?

NONAME

can projectors project 1080 quality?

i was thinking about changing a room into a home theatre

Answer
Sure, some projectors can display 1080. Others can display even higher definition.

How does a projector compare to an LED TV?
To answer this you should first understand that an LED TV is nothing more than an LCD TV that uses LEDs as back-lighting instead of fluorescent bulbs that standard LCDs use. So your resolution is no better on an LED TV as it is on a LCD TV that doesn't have LED back-lighting. The reason they market them as "LED" TVs is to confuse unsuspecting consumers into believing they need to upgrade.

The only thing that is usually better about an LED TVs picture quality is that the blacks are blacker.

With that said, it's very hard to compare the quality of an LCD TV to that of a projector simply because you can have the best projector in the world and it have a crappy picture if you are using it poorly.

A projector's image is quite dependent on the quality of its viewing invironment. The darker the lighting, the better the picture. So if you have a room that lets in light, it will not be as good. How bed will it be? That all depends on how much ambient light you have and the brighness of the projector.

Also, a projector needs to be viewed on a nice projection screen to get the best picture. If you decide to simply paint the walls white or light grey, then your picture will not be as good.

So a projector is more dependent upon the variables within it's environment, while a TV isn't. However, you can obtain a much larger image with a projector. And if you take the time to do it right, can have a better quality.

What is the difference between the samsung LED 7 series and 6 series.?

ricardo

Of course besides the price, what are the technical differences and the most important ones.
Why is there a huge price difference?

Answer
The 7 series samsung led is able to connect to the internet to access netflix, blockbuster online, satellite radio, and things like that. If you have no interest in accessing the internet through the tv or have a blue ray player that already does this there is no reason to buy a 7 series. The 8 series however offers 240 hz refresh rate as opposed to the 120 hz of the 7 and 6 series.

Mike

Okay i have tried refreshing my desktop, i have tried changing the resolution. Prior to about 10 minutes ago i was running my pc through my tv, but tonight i rearranged my room and decided to hook it back up to my 23" samsung 1080p 240hrtz led gaming monitor. It was previously hooked up to a 42" samsung led tv. These lines only seem to show up on my desktop, meaning that it doesnt overlay over programs, so i dont think its a hardware problem. So any ideas on how to fix this, its not extremely annoying, but id prefer to fix it if i could.

Answer
I suspect something is failing in your video system, either your monitor or your video card. The reason you don't see it over the images generated by other software is that it is sensitive to a color or pattern used in the desktop but not used in images from other software.

I would like you to run a test.

Take a screen shot of your desk top. When you look at the picture of the desktop, does the same thing happen to the picture that appears on the desktop?

Samsung LED TV problems?

Trekker34

My Samsung LED tv is having some problems.

The screen will start to flicker, change colors, and eventually turn off when the tv has been on for a long time. However, today, it was only after about 3 hours of use. I also think that perhaps my PS3 is the culprit. How though? It seems to happen after my PS3 is on. I called Samsung about it and they're going to schedule a tech to come a look at it but am not sure if they'll be able to do anything.

They told me that only if they cannot repair the set...only then they'll try and replace it. I really don't want them to have to take the tv away to their shop but I have no idea what they're going to do. It's so incredibly frustrating.

Does anyone have any insight on what the technicians will do or how they'll try and repair it? Will they need to take the set away and if so, for how long?

Thanks for any help.

Answer
You need to ask those questions to the Customer Representative that you set up the appointment with or the repair person coming to your residence.

Can I downgrade from a 32 inch tv to a 24 inch?

Christwarr

My 32 inch LCD Emerson hdtv broke, will it be that much of a downgrade to go to a 24 inch LED Vizio TV. Basically I am looking at either a 24 inch vizio or a 32 inch LED element tv. I have never heard of element and saw mixed reviews, but it is made in America, which I like. Will an Element 32 inch led tv last, or will it break in two years like my Emerson did?

Answer
You're going down 12 inches so you will notice the difference. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for so if you buy an off brand TV be prepared for it to go out in a year. Basically they take advantage of the poor by making them pay more. Save an extra hundred and buy a 32 or 40" name brand HD tv. I bought mine from Walmart and saved about 150 dollars in black friday.

How do i hook up a playstation 2 to a samsung led tv, which does not have a A/V hook up?

The Samsung led tvs do not have the red/yellow/white hook up but they do have a hdmi, Dvi, Pc/ Dvi, usb, Hdd, and composite cable. Can i buy anything to get my playstation 2 to work with it?

Answer
My Samsung LED tv came with 2 extra cables. You can plug the cables in the tv in what looks like a mic port, and you will then have the red/yellow/white hook up on the other end. The second cable you can plug in is for Component. You should have a picture on the back of the tv where you can see where you should plug in which cable.

Also is there a real difference between 60 HZ and 120 HZ on a 39, 40, or 42 inch LED TV. Also in regards to LED what is the better brand Samsung, Insignia, Sharp, or Westinghouse?

Answer
"...What is the better type of TV for sports and video games? LED, LCD, or Plasma?..." Plasma. The others, even the best of them, will have some level of fast-motion blur. The economy sets will be especially bad.

"...is there a real difference between 60 HZ and 120 HZ on a 39, 40, or 42 inch LED TV..." Yes, but it will vary as to degree on different models. Generally, the 120 Hz refresh rate will mitigate the fast-motion blur to some extent, but it will still be there at least a little. A lot on cheapo sets. (The size of the screen is irrelevant.)

"...what is the better brand Samsung, Insignia, Sharp, or Westinghouse?..." Generally speaking, Samsung is superior to the others. Sharp has many fine models. Insignia is Best Buy's house brand--a few decent models, but mostly not to be recommended. Avoid Westinghouse--a very low end budget brand.

Need a new tv what brand is the best?

Jason

Hi I'm looking in replacing my 9 month old Samsung 43 inch piece of crap that Samsung refuses to fix but I don't have the money to spend on another worthless product so I'm wondering what are some good 40 inch dlat screen TVs that last and are under the $650 price range I will mostly be using the tv for watching older movies on DVD such as black and white gangster films or universal monsters and blu ray for newer movies I'm an occasional gamer but gaming specs aren't that important to me. The tv will be in the basement so glare isn't a big problem for me. I'm also wondering what's better LCD, LED, or Plasma and I need a better company that actually takes the time to try to negotiate a simple problem so SAMSUNG is out of the question for brands. I was thinking Sony, toshiba, or Magnavox because I've had tvs that lasted longer with those brands than samsung heck right now I'm using my 1970s Magnavox that still works for my basement tv. So if anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Answer
Its not an easy answer,650,is not going to get the best tv out now. There are good options out there, and all tvs are expendable.I fix every tv make & model & find all to be made with similar design & quality unless buying the top line from any manufacturer, which is alot more than 650.

I have seen entry level sets from samsung & panasonic, Lg ,Sharp, etc look & last and also have issues out of box.

If you are stuck with a budget of 650,then you are in entry level pricing and the way companys can sell tvs cheap & turn a profit is by leaving out better technologies and sometimes using inferior parts.

Thats why the samsung 43 c,d.& e series are hit or miss unless you go 7000 or 8000 series which are excellent but much more money then 4000 to 6k series.

Panasonic & samsung make great plasmas highest PQ by ratings, and Sharp Elite for overall best PQ 2012,again very expensive.

I suggest looking for a good name and best price in your range, and OLED is coming soon which should drive already falling tv prices down more.

As of 9/23/ Elite.com Sharp does make Elite and has for a few years,Pioneer made the best plasma until 2009 when Pioneer stopped making tvs due to high costs and people looking for cheaper tvs. Sharp makes hi end LEDs with Sharps patented 4 led rgb+Y the 4th being yellow which is on the new ELITE LED TV..........Read the website or any Hometheater magazine review even states pionerr only helped sharp with remote codes etc Sharp does all manufacturing with Sharp parts at their japanese Elite division for Sharp.

OP Sorry to go off topic but had to set the record straight,Spike you are misinformed, not being a jerk and no disrespect but Sharp makes new Elite LED not pioneer anymore and Pioneer only made Elite Plasma,so its a different tech and I own a repair company in NY and Elite made from sharp has parts from sharp not Pioneer,& I have both a Kuro1 and Sharp Elite, now. Thanks All.

What is the difference between an LED and LCD TV?

c_verhoff1

What is the difference between an LED and LCD TV? Which one is a better choice for the money/time it will last/overall best picture? Also, must be able to get TV in about a 20in or so in size. And what would be the best brand and good price?

Answer
LED TV is just an LCD TV that uses a LED backlight instead of a fluorescent one. This helps alleviate the problem of poor color fidelity that LCD's suffer from, but does little to help poor black levels, response time, and viewing angles.

At around 20 inches, I would recommend a CRT for best picture quality. Resolution is NOT everything. Most people think resolution is a lot more important than it really is. So as long as space isn't a major constraint and you're not going to be using as a computer monitor, I'd recommend a CRT at 20 inches: where it lacks in resolution it more than makes up in response time, color fidelity, and contrast. Plus it costs up to 50% less than a comparable LCD.

http://www.memorex.com/products/product_details.php?PID=50706 This is one of the better 20 inch CRT's currently on the market. $160 at Target. I own one and am very satisfied with it. It's got 10 watts of power output, which is not only excellent for a TV of that size, but respectable for ANY sized TV.

Answer
It's a scam. It doesn't work.

RK is has not been proven in any scientific studies to be efficacious in humans. The active ingredient, 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one, is not known to have the effect Dr. Oz stated and the side effects of RK on humans when taken orally as a supplement are not established or well understood. Hence, people with fat issues, should do as the best minds in nutrition and health on the planet, the US National Institute of Health, have been recommending for decades and avoid all supplements unless recommended by a health care professional.

When it is proven that 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one is efficacious and safe for humans, you will see Big Pharma producing it in a prescription-only oral form and, of course, that will be followed by national advertising in mass media...something you don't see now because scammers can't afford serious ad campaigns and are stuck with the cheap "reach" of the internet. There's considerable profit to be made. In the mean time, the best option for the average person with fat issues is proper eating, plain & simple. Just as with acai, the buying public will eventually learn RK is no panacea for fat problems, the mania will subside, and we'll be waiting for the next big fat loss supplement that doesn't work to come along.

Dr. Oz is the worst kind of information source because he promotes both good and bad information in equal measure making it all but impossible for his audience to separate the fact from the fiction and, thereby, leaving them to conclude that much of his quackery is in fact truth. The painful results has been hordes of people spending their hard earned money on hopeless remedies and tonics such as acai berries, raspberry ketones, green tea, and African mango extracts.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of experts who are speaking out about his quackery

Ref: http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/jref-news/1260-pigasus-2011.html
"The Media Pigasus Award goes to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who has done such a disservice to his TV viewers by promoting quack medical practices that he is now the first person to win a Pigasus two years in a row. Dr. Oz is a Harvard-educated cardiac physician who, through his syndicated TV show, has promoted faith healing, "energy medicine," and other quack theories that have no scientific basis. Oz has appeared on ABC News to give legitimacy to the claims of Brazilian faith healer âJohn of God,â who uses old carnival tricks to take money from the seriously ill. He's hosted Ayurvedic guru Yogi Cameron on his show to promote nonsense "tongue examination" as a way of diagnosing health problems. This year, he really went off the deep end. In March 2011, Dr. Oz endorsed "psychic" huckster and past Pigasus winner John Edward, who pretends to talk to dead people. Oz even suggested that bereaved families should visit psychic mediums to receive (faked) messages from their dead relatives as a form of grief counseling."

HP Envy 14 Beats Edition vs MacBook Pro 13"?

divinjalin

I have the chance to get a new laptop but I couldn't choose between the Hp Envy 14 Beats Edition and the MacBook Pro. I like how the Envy has the slick, black design with the beats logo and audio. I am pretty serious about music sound quality and the Envy can give you this (I also do have Beats by Dre which I heard is to be amazing when connected with Beats Audio laptops).Yet I love how the Pro also has a slick yet more sturdy design than the PC. Also how it can give you iMovie, iPhoto, iBooks Author and Garageband (These softwares are really important to me). Garageband may not be the best music producing software, yet I do know that it is simple and easy to use. Also I can get the MacBook cheaper if I buy it from my school. The teachers will get me the international keyboard (English/Normal keyboard) and install Microsoft Word and the other apps for free. I also think I can upgrade the specs on the MacBook if I want to. The cost (I live in Europe) of a normal MacBook is about 1500 Euros, yet through the school, I can get it under 1000 Euros. The HP will be have to bought in the U.S. and brought by my relatives. The cost is about 1150 Dollars for the PC. Yet even though the cost is great for the Mac, I really really value the fact that the HP has Beats Audio. That is what is stopping me. Also everyone at my school has a MacBook and I have the thought that it would be cool to be different. It is hard to choose...
Finally the technical details,

A good TV for gaming?

Jake

I play Call of Duty and Halo a lot and I was just wondering what would be the best TV for gaming? Thank you.
Btw I don't know if it matters but I play on the Xbox 360. Thanks.

Answer
If you are buying a TV for gaming you will most likely want either an LCD or LED TV. These types do not screen burn from constantly having the HUD displayed in the bottom right and left corner. The industry leader for LCDs is Sony, the leader for LED is Samsung. Also TVs are expensive make sure you understand what each different component does. I'm debating whether I should pony up and buy a 4s on verizon even though I'm not eligible for a discount until Nov. 2012 and would have to pay full price. The issue is I have an HTC Thunderbolt and the battery is so horrible (even with everything including 4G turned off and my display turned all the way down) that it hardly lasts me through my work day without going dead. I'm tired of this and obviously there isn't much that Verizon is willing to do for me so I figured maybe I should just buy a 4s now and then flip it on ebay when the 5 comes out which I should be able to get discounted since my contract is up in Nov. What do you think? iphone's always have great resale value which works in my favor IMO.

Which HDTV do you recommend with these preferences? please help!?

best led tv 40 inch 2012
on 12 Inch Flat Screen Tv | Consumer Product Review
best led tv 40 inch 2012 image

Tyler

My dad is thinking of buying an HDTV in February 2012 since he's getting his taxes. This will be our first HDTV and I would like to choose wisely. My dad is letting me pick the TV since I am the one wanting it. My preferences are that it has GREAT PICTURE, great sound, and pandora radio. I saw Sony HDTV's and they seemed great but I would like to know if there are better ones than sony. The budget is about 1,000 for the tv since we also want to buy some speakers( a speaker suggestion would also be apprecisted) and other accesories. Please tell me your suggestions and thanks a lot for your help! :D Thanks again :D

Answer
Sony's are very good - but tend to be expensive.

First - forget about "great sound" and "Pandora radio". To make the televisions flat and small border - the speakers have been sacrificed. If you want good sound - you need an external sound system.

Second - you cannot just buy 'speakers'. Speakers are MOTORS - they consume power. This is the job of an Amp. Televisions are not built with amps or enough power to drive outboard speakers.

What you need besides the TV - is a 5.1 surround sound system.

Here is my suggestion (using Amazon prices)

Samsung UN40D6000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV - $643
Onkyo HT-S5400 7.1-Channel Home Theater System - $360

This is a bit over a grand but gives you the basis for a good HT system. Add a BluRay player with Pandora or a Media Server box like the Western Digital TV Live box for $99 (Netflix, Shoutcast, HuluPlus, etc.) and you have a good system.

Whats the difference between Plasma and LCD?

best led tv anti glare
 on Find Affordable Televisions
best led tv anti glare image

Bobby

Thinking of getting a new TV and I've noticed that Plasmas are way cheaper the LCD's... Does anyone know why??

Answer
Cost issue - yah, because LCDs have to put in expensive add-ons to match Plasma quality. But they pass along that cost to you the consumer.

All LCDs, CCFL or LED, suffer from motion blur problems. They can't refresh the screen fast enough to keep up with fast action scenarios. So you get ghost trails. Now, the manufacturers found a way to try and eliminate this problem. Its the advanced Refresh Rate spec you see on LCDs. So the base is 60Hz, but you can pay for advanced options like 120Hz or 240Hz. This feature can help a lot, especially as you go into larger sized TVs, but you're expected to pay a premium for it.

Now Plasma on the other hand has a near instantaneous response time of like 0.001 ms. This means it has a near flawless motion playback (like a CRT or DLP). This is inherent to the technology, so there is nothing extra to pay for in order to get crisp and clean motion playback.

Next, CCFL based LCDs are sometimes claimed to provide grey blacks, muted colors, and so-so contrast as you get into larger sized sets (a bit as you break 40", but more so as you break 50"). So in order to combat this, LCD manufacturers came out with the LED light source. LED does typically solve these problems for an LCD set. But, besides 3D, this is the most premium feature for an LCD so carries the greatest cost add-on for you the consumer.

Plasma on the other hand will deliver vivid colors, deep contrast, and true blacks right out of the box. It is something that is again inherent to the technology. So there is no advanced feature cost to have to pass onto the consumer.

So that's how Plasma prices can beat LCD prices and still deliver top notch image quality experience. And stick with Panasonic for the best image quality and set reliability.

The main knock on Plasma now is that it is still a glass unit. So if you have loads of uncontrollable light, glare might be an issue. But if you can control the lighting in the room, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. And LCD's aren't magically perfect with glare, they're just better.

Most other knocks against Plasma are myths and misconceptions. They do not need to be re-charged. Their are now energy star certified models, so they are no longer power hogs. You can get thin models if you need something of lesser weight. Modern ones do not suffer burn-in. Especially if you go with Panasonic, which includes extra anti-image retention features above and beyond the advances in the technology.

Is there a big difference between matte and glossy screens?

Bacon

The laptop that I want only comes in matte.
My old desktop and college laptops are in matte and the quality is just terrible when compared to my glossy 15" laptop or 40" LED TV.

I can barely look at them, I get eye strain and feel depressed.. which is somewhat strange...

I'm unsure if it's because my desktop is a few years older and the screens on the laptops have bad graphics cards or perhaps they have damage-resistant layers?

Anyway, could you tell me just how different matte is from glossy.
I get 0 reflections on my current glossy screen as my lamp and lights in the house all have shades. In my bedroom the windows face the back of my laptop, hence no glare.

Thank you

Answer
Hi troll,

Glossy screens have vibrant colors and high contrast and brightness because they have a smooth, high-gloss surface. Glossy screens use optical coating to reduce the amount of reflected external light. Their shiny surfaces reflect more light than matte displays. In controlled environments, such as darkened rooms, or rooms where all light sources are diffused, a glossy display may be more enjoyable for the viewer.

Matte screens have anti-glare finish, to scatter the reflected light. Matte screens diffuse light instead of reflecting it so they might be easier to read outdoors, if the backlight provides enough brightness. This characteristic, however, has a number of side effects, which include scattering the light from the display and increasing the blur. Additionally, it results in reduction of the contrast ratio, color intensity, and viewing angle.

Hope the information is useful to you.

Thanks and Regards
Priyanka S

What makes 3d led tv better than others like it?

Answer
There has been a lot of hype and confusion surrounding the introduction of "LED" Televisions. Even many marketing representatives and sales professionals that should know better are falsely explaining what an LED Television is to their prospective customers.

To set the record straight, it is important to note that the LED designation refers to the backlight system used in some newer LCD Televisions, not the chips that produce the image content.

LCD chips and pixels do not produce their own light. In order for an LCD television to produce a visible image the LCD's pixels have to be "backlit". For more specifics on the backlighting process needed for LCD Televisions,

LED TVs are still LCD TVs. It is just that these new sets use LED backlights rather than the fluorescent-type backlights used in most other LCD TVs.

In other words, LED TVs should actually be labeled LCD/LED TVs.

How LED Technology is Used In LCD TVs

The are currently two main ways that LED backlighting is applied in LCD flat panel televisions.

One type of LED backlighting is referred to as Edge Lighting. In this method, a series LED backlights are placed along the outside edges of the screen. The light is then dispersed across the screen. The advantage of this method is that the LED/LCD TV can be made very thin. On the other hand, the disadvantage of Edge lighting is that black levels are not as deep and the edge area of the screen has a tendency to be brighter than the center area of the screen.

The other type of LED backlighting is referred to as Full-Array. In this method, several rows of LEDs are placed behind the entire surface of the screen. The advantage is that these sets can employ "local dimming". Local dimming means that each LED or a specific group of LEDs can be turned on and off independently within certain areas of the screen, thus providing more control of the brightness and darkness for each those areas, depending on the source material being displayed. On the other hand, LCD TVs that employ full array backlighting are thicker than LCD TVs that employ an Edge-lit LED light source.

If you are considering the purchase of an LED/LCD Television, find out which brands and models are currently using the Edge or Full Array method and take of a look at each type when you go shopping to see which type of LED backlighting looks best to you.

What type of LED tv I should buy?

I am confused with 2 types led tv : edge led and led backlit. whats the difference? and what should I buy?

Answer
Edge LED is cheaper than LED Backlit in most of the case. If you're thinking about buying one, If you have good budget then you should go with LED Backlit.
The most important things is It's better if you choose 1080 p with good Hz level as well.

I used to be fairly aware of what an LCD television's pros/cons were compared to a plasma but these new super flat LED televisions seem to be the best of both worlds. Can someone out there explain to me the pros/cons of the LED tvs compared to LCD/plasma? Thanks!

Answer
LED TV Technology Pros and Cons
by Robert Wiley

PROS

The viewing angle on LCD Televisions with LED back lighting has improved dramatically to plasma-like levels of 75 degrees with no contrast level degradation on some of the best ones.
The black levels on the best new LED TVs has improved to plasma like black levels while contrast levels still lag the best plasmas buy hundreds of post calibration points
Brightness on LED based LCDs is better than the traditional flourescent bulbs
LED TVs will have better consistency of color information over time than traditional LCDs
LED backlit Televisions should in theory have a better lifespan than traditional LCD TVs or plasmas.
CONS
LED TVs with local dimming use more energy than traditional LCDs. It's not much, about 100W for a particular size range.
LED Televisions with discreet backlighting can have lots of dimensional depth to the cabinet. We recently reviewed one with a 6" depth to the cabinet â making it less wall mount friendly.
LED TVs are quite a bit more expensive than traditional LCD TVs. See our article titled "LED TV â Is it worth it?" or our "LED vs LCD" coverage.

What are Full HD and HD ready with regard to LED TVs?

Saad

We are planning on buying a new LED TV; however, we are confused as to whether we should buy a full HD TV or HD ready TV. Do they really have to do something with the quality of video aired by TV channel stations?

Answer
This is a very confusing terms. Let me explain the story:

In the US - there were lawsuits over the type of antenna signals. TV Makers had a problem. If they included tuners designed with 1 type of antenna signals and the format changed, the televisions would not work with an antenna. So they started building and selling televisions WITHOUT tuners. This worked great for people with satellite or cable box's who did not care about using an antenna, and consumers who did want to use an antenna could buy an external box for .. $150.

This caused confusion so they made a law that these televisions had to be called "HD Ready".

This had nothing to do with 720 or 1080 or "full HD" - In the United States.

In Europe and India - the term could mean something different. Learn this before you purchase.

MY ADVICE:

IF the screen size is below 40 inches - you can get away with a HDTV that is native 720.

If the screen size is above 40 inches - get the 1080 version.

Hope this helps.
