Multiple audio devices but only one set of speakers?

I have Sattelite TV, an XBox 360, PS2, and a PC all sharing the same display (LED TV) and would like them all the share the same set of speakers, a 5.1 CA Surround sound system... I'm aware i will most likely need some form of hardware device to do this. They dont have to play at the same time for obvious reasons, and am having a hard time finding a device or even what the name of such a device would be to start looking.

Any help would be appreciated.

What you need is called an AVR or Audio Video Receiver. The AVR will be your central hub controlling source devices and directing video to your display and sound to your speakers. How are you currently using so many devices on the one display? I assume the LED TV has multiple inputs, possibly multiple HDMI inputs and it has source selection so you can select which of your source devices has the display. The AVR will be similar, you will want to choose an AVR that includes enough source inputs to handle all your devices.

Your speakers are output devices as is your display. If your TV has a built in receiver for over the air broadcast then it may also be a source device so your AVR will need enough inputs to include it as well. You will no longer select the source with the TV, you will be able to leave the TV source fixed and select sources with the AVR. It will send any video information to your display and audio to your speakers. It will include amplification for the speakers with the exception of any subwoofer. This will typically be an unamplified output intended for use with an amplified subwoofer.

There are a number of brands to consider in AVR's, Denon, Onkyo, HK just to name a few. Prices range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and you do tend to get what you pay for. For even higher quality you could select a preamp/processor instead of an AVR but this will require external amplification for all speakers. Preamp/processors typically range from just under $1000 to tens of thousands of dollars plus power amplifiers. Power amplifiers range from hundreds each to tens of thousands of dollars each. Generally, the more separate things are the more expensive and the better quality. Avoid AVR's with built in bluray players etc. These types of devices are typically inferior quality and if just one component fails, the whole thing becomes garbage.

It costs a lot to run a nation.

First, federal taxes and state (and local) taxes are two different things. When you pay taxes on food or clothing, that money does NOT go towards federal funding. It goes to STATE AND LOCAL taxes to pay for your policemen, your schools, your teachers, your public transportation, the maintenance repairs of your town's government buildings, your prisons, your building inspectors' salaries, your local street-cleaning crews.....the list goes on and on.

...and even though you didn't mention property taxes, they are a HUGE Part of taxation in Americans' lives--and those taxes go to your LOCAL governments. Even if you're renting, the owner of your apartment has to pay property taxes on the place you're renting. I have to pay over $2,000 per year in taxes on the small places I rent out to my tenants (I'm a landlord).

.But again, these are local taxes, not federal taxes (although the federal government offers 'deductions' for property--but let's set that aside for now).

Gasoline? Yes, there's a FEDERAL tax on that but it is a surprisingly meager compared to European countries--I believe in the US it's only a few cents on the gallon (unfortunately, cheap gas led us into some of the problems the US is experiencing today).

Your FEDERAL Income Tax, on the other hand, goes towards paying for federally-controlled things--like our US military, our US government workers' salaries, our CIA, FBI, IRS, National parks, our national highway system, government regulation of various projects (like the Alaska 'bridge to nowhere'--projects like these are called "pork.").

Today's $700 billion BAILOUT will involve FEDERAL taxes, and will cost the American between $10,000 and $36,000 per taxpayer, or so they said today on the TV news.

....of course, both the democrats (Obama) and republicans (McCain) are talking about 'keeping taxes low'--but sooner or later SOMEbody is going to have to start taxing Americans more to pay off the $10 trillion national debt we've borrowed from China and Japan, our two biggest lenders).....and those were FEDERAL loans......

So what I'm saying is that you have to pay LOCAL taxes AND FEDERAL taxes if you work in the US. Neither are cheap. But sooner or later that $10 trillion debt is going to catch up with us taxpayers OR our children......too bad we wasted so many $billions fighting a pointless war in Iraq.

Over the last millenium or so Korea has been harassed and invaded by its larger, more aggressive neighbors numerous times - the Chinese, the Mongols, the Jurchens(Manchus), and especially the Japanese. The Koreans have an expression which is telling: "A shrimp caught between whales".

After the devastating double invasion by Japan near the end of the 16th century Korea never quite recovered from the loss until modern times, whereas Japan profited not only from the material plunder but also from the skills and civilizing influence of craftsmen and scholars captured and taken to Japan. There is in the outskirts of Kyoto, Japan, a monument known as Mimizuka ("Ear Mound"), which is literally the tomb of some 38,000 noses and ears cut from dead Koreans as war trophies.

As a result of this horrible experience the Korean court closed the country off from the outside world (hence the nickname "The Hermit Kingdom") until forced to open up late in the 19th century. By then Japan had already opened up to Western civilization and was rapidly becoming a military power to reckon with, which led to Japan taking over Korea once again early in the 20th century, this time annexing it officially as a colony of Japan.

Life in Korea under Japanese colonial rule was brutal and exploitative. For example, Koreans were forbidden to speak their own language and had to change their names to Japanese ones. Many cultural treasures were destroyed or stolen not only for their value but in a systematic attempt to erase Korean history and identity altogether, to try to turn Koreans into second-class Japanese. Would you believe buildings were moved(!) in order to ruin the good feng sui in Korea's capital? Sounds incredible, but it happened.

Many Koreans were relocated to Japan, Central Asia and Siberia, either by force or through deceptive recruitment, to help with Japan's war effort in the 1940's, then simply abandoned there when Japan surrendered. There are many ethnic Koreans living in those areas today, descendants of those unfortunates. There is also the problem of the 'Comfort Women', women of Korean and other Asian countries (and also some Dutch women captured in Indonesia) who were forced to work as sex slaves to Japanese soldiers. The whitewashing of history and reluctance on the part of the Japanese government to confront this particular chapter of Japan's imperial history has been a source of ongoing tension between Japan and its neighbors.

Today though, there are many healthy signs of progress. Young people in both South Korea and Japan are becoming aware of each other as people, not just historical abstractions. They are visiting each other's countries in record numbers. Korean TV shows and pop stars are becoming popular in Japan, and Japanese comics and animation are all the rage in South Korea. The respective governments have done much good work in order to cement economic and cultural ties between the two nations which are, after all, next-door neighbors with many physical and cultural similarities, and have always had close dealings throughout history. There is even talk of constructing an undersea tunnel connecting the two countries. Whether or not that actually comes to pass, it is surely a sign of more to come.

Wall mount for a 24" LED TV are 2x2 studs sufficient? How else would i go about mounting it?

i have a 24" led tv about 20-25lbs. I want to hang it to my wall using a mount i bought. But the lags are very large, and my dads afraid they will crack the 2x2 studs. I have drywall on the walls already and my walls are extremely thin. The lags take up at least 3/4 of the wall.

Could i maybe screw plywood onto the wall, then screw the mount onto that? Or would that not be good enough to hold my tv? Is there a way to mount it without hitting the studs?

Mount it on the studs,pre -drill the holes for the lag screws slightly smaller than the screws themselves and they won't split the studs.

First decide on what you have in mind to spend. They come $200 and less and $2000 and more, and everything in between. Next decide within the realm of price, wall mount or stand mount and size for the room. Then decide on audio - through the TV, or an enhanced sound system. After you have an idea, you have Fry's in-store sales on the West Coast, and price against internet Tigerdirect, Newegg, Amazon, and try Nextag as a pricing comparison. Occassionally, Walmart and Best Buy do something special. Understand brand quality. Top brands are Samsung, Sony, LG. Then Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba. Then other covers the rest.
Plasma TVs are generally lower priced and heavier weight. LCD TFT-CCFL are fluorescent backlight LCD and generally have brighter but less uniform pictures and are mid-thickness, and LED-LCD is thinner and more uniform picture brightness. Plasmas are great day 1, and degrade faster. 720p is lower density pixels but cheaper. 1080p is higher density pixels. In LCD, refresh rate in milliseconds or Hertz determines the smoothness of flow of motion on the screen.
Know that all TVs have been shipped from China to US warehouses so the store location is not as important as you may think. But, standard delivery is doorstep - a large box outside your door, and bring in and/or setup is extra. Also, if you have Costco or BJs maybe, sometimes they have a deal. Check internet for reviews.
Time to buy, there are black friday after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday around then, and Xmas, and after Xmas, and generally new models are around April, so March is typically closeouts.
You also have extra features like internet capabilities for more money, and that would include Netflix direct reception among other features.
If not doing separate audio, beware of the watts per channel audio.
That's the general. Look at some at Best Buy if there is one near you, but don't buy the day you walk in no matter what.

You can check it out tomorrow, but it was a special for Black Friday. Here's something to consider.
Plasma tv still offers the best picture quality of all tvs in the market today. They are also less expensive and do not have problem in blur motion like the LCD and LED tvs. The burn issue on Plasma tv is no longer an issue. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs. In September issue the featured a Panasonic Plasma 42" and compared it to a Sony, LG, Toshiba and Vizio LCD tvs at about the same size. The top choice is the Panasonic Plasma and the only model that was a THX certified. LCD tvs have blur motion problems and to reduce the blur you have to get the 120HZ or the 240HZ which comes at a higher price. Hope this will help you out.

How much will LED TVs drop in price come 4th quarter/ Christmas?

Last year LCD TVs had a drastic reduction in price. I believe partly because of the economy and partly because LCD technology is being phased out to make way for LED TVs. I know prices *probably* won't see a drastic drop like last year but how much, in your opinion, do you think LED TVs, particularly 240Hz and 46-55" TVs will drop in price from now until 4th quarter/ Christmas season? Every most-popular technology reaches $600 for 40in and $1000 for 50in, and only falls lower when the next generation of that technology comes in or another technology grabs up its market share (see 720p 50in plasmas for $600 as a perfect example).

So, to $600 for 40in and $1000 for 50in in the long run, like after christmas sales, but +$200 for Christmas itself.

You should just keep it for a "just in case", pawn shops are doing poorly right now, they overed price stuff, and pay stuff really lower that they should. Give the TV to a close friend, sell it to your friend, keep it in storage. Since all flat screens still have the same chance of being cracked by a Wii remote or any other object. If you 55inch break for some reason you can pull out that 42 inch especially in last minute situation like the SuperBowl.

need help buying monitor?

I am so tired of doing research on monitors trying to find one to buy. I need at least a 23" one. Tv has HDMI port but computer does not ( tho it is only a year old) if I got an adaptor for computer (vga to HDMI) would I need to buy something else? and is there a way I can hook computer and tv up so I dont have to unplug one and plug the other up to switch back and forth?

You can get a Computer Monitor that has HDMI in, I just got myself a 24" Samsung 1080p LED monitor. The brightness / contrast is phenomenal and setup next to my old 22" LCD the difference is night and day.

To hook your TV up to the monitor you need either a TV tuner if you use in the wall cable or you can hook a Digital Cable box / Satellite tuner up to the monitor via HDMI. This would eliminate the need for a second TV (monitor) and you can run everything on your computer. The monitor has a 3.5" jack for sound output so you can hook your computer speakers directly into the monitor or use headphones.

The model of monitor that I got is a Samsung BX2431 (http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/monitors/led/LS24X3HKFH/ZA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail). I have my computer w/ TV tuner set as the first input and my XBOX 360 as the second.

Any suggestsions for 55 name brand LED TV and Blu-ray bundle?

Why are the screen edges of the LED television slightly lighter of color?

I know the problem hasn't occured with LCD televisions.
I aslo know that a LED screen has more lamps and has a increase chance of failure.
The odds of pixel defects are higher. But it is so much thinner than LCD. More power efficient.
Better contrast ratio. My biggest problem is the screen edges are lighter of color. I mean after all its is best PQ we are after. Do the higher end models have this problem too?

Depends on the model.

Edge-lit LED TVs have all the light at the edge and use light-guides to spread the light.
They show "blooming", but can be made very thin.

Full-array LEDs have them spread in the back - in a full array. They provide better image quality, but are thicker.

Look for Full-array, back-lit, with Local dimming. = the best.

Is a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 really possible?

I saw in one of Samsung's ads they claimed their new led tvs have a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. They're startiong at 1,600 on up to 5,000 dollars.

Dynamic contrast is meaningless. Look for "True contrast".

Basically, when they detect a "whole black" screen they can turn off the backlight, so they can make the "black" really small - almost 0, which explains the huge DC.

However, in a real picture you will have BOTH blacks and whites, so the number is meaningless. True contrast measures the ratio of white/black on the same picture.

This is why I believe that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is better than the iPhone 5
1. It is quicker (1.9 quad core processor/ 1.6ghz Octa core vs 1.3 dual core processor)

2. Microsd- you can expand the memory with a 64gb microsd. This a cheaper way to expand your memory and you can have a 16 gb S4 and still have more storage than iphone 5 if you get a 64gb microsd.

3. USB OTG- you can read usb keys no problem with an adapter so you can check out what's on them so you don't have to put your computer on.

4. Microusb charger- Better than the lighting connector as you can get them easily and cheaply but also you might have it from other devices as it is becoming standard for smartphones to use micro-usb chargers.

5. Removable battery- This means you can replace the battery if you run out of charge when you are around unlike the iphone 5 which you have to charge or bring an external charger and charge it from there, however this is an awkward way of charging your phone. Should I get the iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy S4?

I'm getting a new phone for my birthday, and I've always really wanted an iphone. But I've been doing some research and it seems like the Galaxy S4 has more features, bigger memory, and better battery life. But almost everyone I know has the iphone, I'm always being left out of group messaging since all my friends have iphones, and it just seems like a cooler phone to have. What should I do?

This is why I believe that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is better than the iPhone 5
1. It is quicker (1.9 quad core processor/ 1.6ghz Octa core vs 1.3 dual core processor)

2. Microsd- you can expand the memory with a 64gb microsd. This a cheaper way to expand your memory and you can have a 16 gb S4 and still have more storage than iphone 5 if you get a 64gb microsd.

3. USB OTG- you can read usb keys no problem with an adapter so you can check out whats on them so you don't have to put your computer on.

4. Microusb charger- Better than the lighting connector as you can get them easily and cheaply but also you might have it from other devices as it is becoming standard for smartphones to use microusb chargers.

5. Removable battery- This means you can replace the battery if you run out of charge when you are around unlike the iphone 5 which you have to charge or bring an external charger and charge it from there, however this is an awkward way of charging your phone. Also the removable battery can help you prevent water damage as you can remove the battery if it falls in water, thus reducing the chances of water damage.

6. NFC- Want to transfer a music album quicker than bluetooth, well now you can with NFC. You can also use Tectiles 2 to make your life easier

I would suggest you go to UPS, FedEx and DHL web sites. You will need the weight and dimensions of the shipping box or crate. With that information you should be able to calculate the shipping cost.

Origin lost the connection from the servers repeatedly when i use hdmi?

First decide on what you have in mind to spend. They come $200 and less and $2000 and more, and everything in between. Next decide within the realm of price, wall mount or stand mount and size for the room. Then decide on audio - through the TV, or an enhanced sound system. After you have an idea, you have Fry's in-store sales on the West Coast, and price against internet Tigerdirect, Newegg, Amazon, and try Nextag as a pricing comparison. Occassionally, Walmart and Best Buy do something special. Understand brand quality. Top brands are Samsung, Sony, LG. Then Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba. Then other covers the rest.
Plasma TVs are generally lower priced and heavier weight. LCD TFT-CCFL are fluorescent backlight LCD and generally have brighter but less uniform pictures and are mid-thickness, and LED-LCD is thinner and more uniform picture brightness. Plasmas are great day 1, and degrade faster. 720p is lower density pixels but cheaper. 1080p is higher density pixels. In LCD, refresh rate in milliseconds or Hertz determines the smoothness of flow of motion on the screen.
Know that all TVs have been shipped from China to US warehouses so the store location is not as important as you may think. But, standard delivery is doorstep - a large box outside your door, and bring in and/or setup is extra. Also, if you have Costco or BJs maybe, sometimes they have a deal. Check internet for reviews.
Time to buy, there are black friday after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday around then, and Xmas, and after Xmas, and generally new models are around April, so March is typically closeouts.
You also have extra features like internet capabilities for more money, and that would include Netflix direct reception among other features.
If not doing separate audio, beware of the watts per channel audio.
That's the general. Look at some at Best Buy if there is one near you, but don't buy the day you walk in no matter what.

It all depends on the spec - personally I like Toshiba Regza 32" or 37" - they both have a good sharp picture. I've got the 47" one and it's brill, Had it for two years now and it cost £1700 in the UK but the price has dropped alot since then with the LED and 3D tv's making an appearance. I'd look for reviews online for various makes, try Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk, their reviews are IMO always accurate.

Issues with Cable input quality.?

Hey guys. I just got a Samsung 32'inch LED TV 4003 series. I am having some issues with the video quality on my cable input. Any channel I watch looks fuzzy. Some channels are better than others though.
I do not have a cable box, so i am using a coaxial cable cord directly from my wall to my tv.
I do not think its my tv/settings because when I switch over to my Xbox's input everything looks fine and crisp. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the video quality/fuzzy issue?

You are looking at 70 year old standard def. This was designed for a nine-inch screen back in 1948. Not a single line, pixel or shade of color has improved since then or it would not be "backwards compatible".

You are basically reading a newspaper under a magnifying glass and noticing all the noise, grain, poor color saturation, etc that we have lived with for years.

Update your cable service to HD or attach an antenna and have the TV scan for channels.

Use www.antennaweb.org to see if you might pick up TV stations with an indoor or outdoor antenna.

Here we go again.... It depends. One example is say the NS-50P650A11 50" plasma. Look on the right hand side. You'll see a sticker with the model number, then serial number, then version number. Now go look at the Samsung PN50C490B3D. Hey, the right hand side has the same sticker! Yup, you hit it right on the head. Samsung is one of the premier leaders in televisions, they make that model for best buy, so are other posters saying Samsung is junk? Next example, NS-55E560A11. 55" LED/LCD. $1300. But wait, it has a Samsung panel LTA550HJ05, $2,152.60 if you break it. Lets take even a Dynex DX-46L150A11. $600. But wait! It has a $1200 you guessed it, who's panel?.... Just for giggles lets look at the reviews. 125 reviews. 4.4 out of 5. Let's take the Insignia NS-32L450A11. 108 reviews. 4.3 out of 5? 90% of the people recommend the product to a friend. First negative review was a 4/4/4 but the reviewer gave it a 1? The first Insignia's were actually made by Sharp. Gee, is Sharp garbage too? No. The LE700UN/LE925/LE920/LE935 have 5 star ratings.Insignia is a great brand. Don't let the misinformed scare you away from a great value set! Hope this helps!

I am about to buy a 55" LED TV it is practically brand new still has plastic over the screen and is in original box but it has 1 dead pixel it is like half of the retail value but I don't know if I should get it or not, and don't think its a big deal the plasma I have now has like 20 dead pixels. Would you consider the Samsung UN55D6900 to be a TV worthy of spending $ on calibration?

I just bought this tv from Best Buy as a floor model and heavily discounted for $670. I got the 55 inch one. I feel great about the purchase, especially at that price, since I looked elsewhere, and even now, these sets are selling for upwards of $1300-1500.

Anyways, my main question is this...

Is this set calibration worthy? I want to get it calibrated but have read that on some basic sets, it's not even worth it since there is very limited options to tweak.
Is this one of those types of sets or is it considered a mid-high end LED tv?

Check the owner's manual for the procedure to reset the TV to its factory defaults, then do it. You shouldn't need to pay for anything, and the default settings should give you a great picture from any source. If you want, you can tweek any of the optional adjustments a little to see what you get. If you make a mess of it, you can always reset the defaults and start over.

I got a brand new 46" Sony Bravia 1080p LED TV at 120 Hz refresh rate for $805 shipping included off of Amazon about two months ago. Look that up and check out the "used" prices. There is an outlet store that is affiliated with Amazon that sells B-stock items, items with damaged original cartons, etc. (B-stock is refurbished, scratch and dent, factory returns, etc). The TV I got was in a plain cardboard carton instead of the Sony box. But, it was perfect and everything was there.
