My sony 3d led tv's got a long line of burn in on the left side, I tried to clean it with led screen cleaning solution but no luck. Is there any way that I can fix this?, thanks

Answer
What you have is dead pixel and not burn in. I have never had any luck buying any Sony products at all. I purchase a 32" CRT tv in the 90's and that only lasted less than 3 years, then the first HDTV in the market a 34" HDTV from Sony. That also did not last more than 3 years. 2 DVD players when they first came out model 7000 and 7700 both at over $1,100 each and that also did not last over 3 years. They do not have a very good customer service support, they will just refer you to an authorized repair shop. If you read yahoo questions, you can read many problems from other customer with Sony product problems. My first Plasma tv from Pioneer purchased in 2002 is still running. Also have 4 other Panasonic Plasma tv and no problems. First generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic which is now over 4 years old and played over 300 blu ray disc movies without any problems. You may try calling or email Sony and see what they say. Hope this will help you out.

Can I use the 3d led tv glasses to watch a movie in a theatre ?

h13387

Is it possible to use our own 3d glasses that came with our tv to watch 3d movies in cinema? This way we can avoid purchasing 3d glasses from there. Is this possible?

Answer
First, the basics. In order for you to see "depth" from a 3D TV, each eye has to see slightly different information. Ideally, the right eye doesn't see any of the information meant for the left eye, and vice versa.

The two current methods to do this are called active and passive. Active 3D uses battery-operated shutter glasses that do as their name describes: they rapidly shutter open and closed. This, in theory, means the information meant for your left eye is blocked from your right eye by a closed (opaque) shutter. All that's required of the TV is the capability to refresh fast enough so each eye gets at least 60 frames per second. They've been able to do this for a while.

Active 3D can be found on plasma, LCD, LED LCD, and all front and rear projectors for the home.

Passive uses inexpensive polarized glasses, like what you get at most movie theaters. The TV has a special filter that polarizes each line of pixels. This filter (a Film Patterned Retarder is one type) makes the odd lines on the screen only visible to the left eye, and the even lines only visible to the right. Without the glasses, the TV looks normal.

So in summary you cannot use your LED TV glases at a movie theatre, because of the different in technology.

What's the difference between a plasma TV, LED TV, and LCD TV, which one is better?

K.J.H.

Answer
Plasma TVs are MADE for gaming, sports, and action movies. They have true black colors, giving the overall picture a darker look than LCD and LEDs. They are not energy efficient, costing about $35 a year to run one. The have a glass screen, causing glare if there is a light source opposite of the TV. They are the least expensive TV to buy, and are great for many things. They have a 600hz refresh rate, giving smooth motion control in all programming (thus making it good for gaming and sports). The burn in issue is a problem of the past. They're equipped with an anti-image retention device, which will flush the gases to eliminate any still picture that would have been left in it.The weight of a 50" plasma is usually under 100 pounds. Plasma TVs start in 42" (price $400+) and go up from there. An average price of a good 50" 1080p plasma is $800.

LCD and LED TVs are identical in the way the colors are produced. The ONLY difference between the two is the light source. LCD uses fluorescent lighting, while LED uses LED lights on the edge or back of the screen. They will have brighter colors than a plasma, but they will not achieve true black colors. They have a matte (plastic) screen, eliminating some glare problems. They come in 60hz, 120hz, and 240hz. It's difficult to find TVs with 240hz, plus the naked eye typically cannot tell the difference. The lower refresh rate makes gaming and sports a little blurry at times. They are more energy efficient that plasma TVs. It will cost about $20 a year for an LCD and about $16 a year for an LED. The lifespan on LCD and LED TVs is about a year or two longer than a plasma. The weight of a 55" LED is around 70-80 pounds. The price for a 55" Samsung LED Smart TV typically runs about $1500. LEDs are the most expensive.

The programming you watch and the room you're putting it in are going to determine which type of TV that would suite your needs the best.
The energy consumption dollar amounts I gave are based on 50"-55" TVs, with smaller TVs being less expensive.

Only buy name brand TVs, or you'll suffer some serious quality issues. Only buy Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, or LG. The Sharp Quattron is also an excellent LED TV. For plasma, Panasonic is the top making, with Samsung following closely. Samsung and Sony make great LED and LCD TVs. LG makes pretty good TVs, but the other brands I named tend to have better pictures, in my opinion.

3D technology varies depending on brand. Most brands use an active 3D technology where the glasses lenses shutter back and forth. You can get a 3D Samsung 1080p plasma 51" for about $900. A 3D Samsung 55" LED is about $1600. LG uses a passive technology for 3D, allowing you to use the movie theatre glasses, unlike with the passive technology. Active 3D will allow for a full HD 1080p signal, while passive will not.

Why won't my led tv give the best gaming graphics?

Sam

I have a 40 inch Samsung led TV. I got it mainly for good gaming graphics, but it's not giving me really good results. I've seen other tv's have amazing gaming picture quality. How can I make the quality of gaming graphics better on an led TV?

Answer
You do not have a "LED" tv. You have an LCD tv with LED back-lighting. This it to improve black-levels.

For gaming - you also need 120 hz to reduce motion blur.

You may have failed to go to your game system and tell it you have a HDTV with 1080 resolution.

You may also need to properly adjust the Brightness, Contrast, Color. Get a Pixar movie and go to the disk setup menu. You will find test patterns and instructions for setting the basic TV settings.

Get your setup correct and it should improve things.

Note: Televisions in the stores are set to nearly 100% Brightness and Contrast to make them 'eye catching'. However this tends to loose fine details and colors will then bloom or expand into other areas. While it looks impressive for the 10-60 seconds you walk buy - it does not look good for long term viewing. So do NOT compare your screen to one you saw in a store display.

Hope this helps.

What is the average lifespan of an LED TV viewed under the following settings?

Sarah C

I watch a ton of Blu-Rays, HD cable and video games kn mh Samsung 46" LED TV. It is now over a year old. I run it about 4-5 hours a day, backlight set to 7, brightness at 40, contrast at 100, dark levels at darkest. These settings look outstanding with what I watch and play.
Based on these settings, what would the approx. lifespan of my TV be?

Answer
Most tv in the market today are rated at 60,000 to 100,000 hours before they go half it's brightness. This also depends on the brand that you get. Any bargain price tv are not very reliable. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic dominates the list with a Plasma tv. In November issue of the magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. I still have my first Pioneer Plasma tv model 4330 purchased in 2002 and have had no problems (purchase price was $6,400). Hope this will help you out.

to find difference between LCD and LED tv's since I don't want to fall into a scam advertisement.

Answer
Well - the type of technology should be clearly printed on the box and on the tag at the store. It's pretty straight-forward. If the box/tag DOESN"T list it as an LED...then it's a regular LCD.

It's not one of those made-up terms (like ClearMotion, or TruMotion, or MotionRate) meant to fool the purchaser into thinking the tv has a better refresh rate. It's either an LCD or an LED.

Is there a big difference in picture in an LCD TV compared to an LED TV?

Cort

Thinking about buying a new 32' tv 1080p maybe with 120hz but probably 60hz but anyways the LED TV's are like $200 more is that just because they are new or are they better?

Answer
The advice you're getting here is more theoretical than practical. The fact is that an "LED" TV is simply an LCD set that uses light emitting diodes for the backlight instead of a fluorescent lamp. Also, whether an "LED" set is dramatically thinner depends on whether it uses edge-lit backlighting or full matrix backlighting. The edge-lit sets are amazingly thin; the full matrix sets are more ordinary.

Your question asks if there is a "big" difference in the picture between the two, and the answer is no. A very good conventional LCD TV will give you a dazzling HD picture and so will almost any "LED" TV. If it has full matrix backlighting, the contrast will be better in specific areas of the screen, but again it's not a "big" difference from a conventional set.

Buy an "LED" TV with edge-lit backlighting if you want a very thin set, or with either type if you want the latest technology and a savings in power consumption. Otherwise, a top-of-the-line conventional LCD set may be the better value and will give you substantially the same quality picture.

LCD or LED tv are safe for gaming. If you want better picture quality, deeper black and less power consumption, LED is your good choice but more expensive. If you want to save money then LCD TV are great to get.

What kind of TV would give the best image quality while playing video games?

web

I am in the market for a TV that I plan on mainly using for video games and Netflix.

Answer
If you're considering a screen size of 42 inches or larger, a plasma set is generally your best choice for use with a game box, because of the absence of fast-motion blur. The blurring problem is present on virtally every LCD or LCD-LED set to some degree.

If you need to have a smaller screen, look for an LCD or LCD-LED with the fastest possible response time (not over 4 ms. and 2 is better) and a refresh rate of 120 or 240 hz (100/200 in some countries).

I want to build a simple rf remote control to simply turn on an LED from a distance, wirelessly. Of course I will do it in a permittable band (one that I don't need a license for). After that I will try to build a r/c car. I want to build it from scratch to get a in depth understanding of robotics.

Answer
If you have experience with electronics, one way of thinking about it is this: when you pass an oscillating current through a wire, it generates an electromagnetic field that propagates outward at the speed of light as radio waves. These waves will create a voltage of the same frequency (although much, much weaker) in another wire that is nearby.

The simplest way to transmit useful information by radio is to simply turn the transmitter on and off; this is how Morse code has been sent since the beginning of the 20th century. All the transmitter needs in this case is a switchable oscillator of the appropriate frequency. The receiver needs a sensitive amplifier and a band-pass filter accurately tuned to the same frequency as the transmitter. There are also more sophisticated encoding schemes, such as the ones used in technologies like TV, FM radio and WiFi.

For more information on the theory behind radio communications, you can check out books or websites on amateur radio. If you're just interested in getting something working, you can get integrated, pre-built transmitting and receiving devices -- try searching for RF receivers, transmitters or transceivers.

What will the Dems do if it is found out that Obama cannot be a president because he is not a natural citizen?

Q. If it is true, which I kinda of doubt, but what if it is true.

Answer
odd comment on No Quarter Usa today about Barack Obama not being a legal citizen of the US and that he has dual citizenship:

CAN OBAMA BE PRESIDENT?
Submitted by poorboy on June 6, 2008 - 8:48pm.
Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. Natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between âDecember 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986? . Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: ââ¦If only one parent was a U.S. Citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.â Barack Obamaâs father was not a U.S. Citizen and Obamaâs mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawaiâi being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obamaâs birth, but *after* age 16. It doesnât matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obamaâs birth when she was 18 in Hawaiâi. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old, at the time of Barack Obamaâs birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen. As aformentioned, she was a young college student at the time and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Cizen parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office.

*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obamaâs aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think the Gov. Of California would be very insterested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, and it would set precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will be leaking through over the next several daysâ¦

The odd thing is that someone commented that it was debunked at snopes.com. I went to snopes.com and found nothing about that. Google has me wondering because there is a lot out there about him being dual citizenship and also that alot of his papers are missing. I have heard that for months when people try to get his Illinois senate records, alot are strangely missing. Urban legend or somehting to check into. Alot of people comment that the DNC would know, but how the heck can we trust the DNC?!

I'm buying an LED/LCD tv at the moment, and I just read somewhere that watching 8 hours of television per day could mean your tv might last up to 20 years. I almost never watch tv, and I'm only really buying it for gaming. I'd probably use the tv for about 2 hours every 3 days myself, and my sister would use it forabout 6 hours twice a week. How long do you think it would last?

Answer
as a repair of consumer goods crt plasma / lcd tvs only seem to last 2- 4 years before trouble starts , this is mainly because of the amount of heat the use also led tvs also have alife span that comes down to quality of leds used in the panel, either way i recommend to my customers is to take out an extended warranty plan if able to and sell the tv off when it comes close to running out, this will prtect some investment in the future, so your not stuck with a broken tv.

What are Full HD and HD ready with regard to LED TVs?

led tv how it works image

Saad

We are planning on buying a new LED TV; however, we are confused as to whether we should buy a full HD TV or HD ready TV. Do they really have to do something with the quality of video aired by TV channel stations?

Answer
This is a very confusing terms. Let me explain the story:

In the US - there were lawsuits over the type of antenna signals. TV Makers had a problem. If they included tuners designed with 1 type of antenna signals and the format changed, the televisions would not work with an antenna. So they started building and selling televisions WITHOUT tuners. This worked great for people with satellite or cable box's who did not care about using an antenna, and consumers who did want to use an antenna could buy an external box for .. $150.

This caused confusion so they made a law that these televisions had to be called "HD Ready".

This had nothing to do with 720 or 1080 or "full HD" - In the United States.

In Europe and India - the term could mean something different. Learn this before you purchase.

MY ADVICE:

IF the screen size is below 40 inches - you can get away with a HDTV that is native 720.

If the screen size is above 40 inches - get the 1080 version.

Hope this helps.

How to connect Creative T6100 speakers to Panasonic LED TV ?

param

Hi, I have a Creative T6100 5.1 Speaker system. I want to cinnect it to my Panasonic LED TV. There is only one Digital Audio out from TV (Optical Out). However my Creative 5.1 speaker have three 3.5mm pins. When I connect any one of the pins to TV headphone slot, one pair of speakers work. It can be 2 fronts, 2 rears or the center one. Can anyone tell me, how to play all 5 speakers without using any AV receiver ? AV receivers cost more than 10 times than my Creative T6100 speakers.

Answer
The best you can get (without spending more money than your speakers are worth) is stereo (front right and left?) since surround output from the TV is digital and your speakers ... which are really computer speakers designed to connect to the three mini-stereo jacks on a computer audio card ... are analog. You can, as you have found out, use the headphone jack or buy an optical to stereo converter (Monoprice, Amazon, etc) to do much the same thing.

The device at the link is the next level up, or get a used A/V receiver with analog multichannel outputs plus RCA to ministereo converters. Finally, you can sell your 6100's and buy speakers with an optical input.

Thems the options.

this saves 60$

Antec power supply, Rosewill is not the most reliable power supplies, and this is only 5$ more, even though its 50w less it will be 650w of good reliable power, you wont need this much anyway,

the nvidia and the intel graphics will not combine, if you plan for moderate gaming then you want at least a nvidia 550gtx or Radeon 6850. the 8400gs is an ancient card.

I would also cut out the flashy case and invest in a quad core processor. for multitasking it will definately come in handly

How do I get rid of the blue screen of death?!?

Ed

Recently, I was just watching a tv show online. Then my laptop shut off on me. I thought it was no biggie because it tends to do that when I watch videos or if it gets hot. I turned it back on and then it gave me two options, "repair start up" or "start windows normally". I chose repair and it led me to the blue screen of death! So i followed its steps and restarted my computer. I went to the F8 screen and chose safe mode. It led me back to the blue screen. I then tried everything else. The blue screen keeps coming. Can someone help me because I'm unable to even successfully start my computer.

Answer
let it sit for an hour or so and see if it works again without problems. if it does clean out the fans with compressed air. if it doesnt then look into getting the operating system reinstalled. a blue screen of death is usually caused by a bad operating system. perhaps a program or someone modified files they shouldnt have and thats why it ends up doing that. before you reformake make sure you back up your files first. you can do so with a hard drive enclosure. this will help you access your files by skipping the operating system. the thing causing the blue screen of death in the first place. i use a bt-300 from topmicrousa and all you do is copy and paste files off the hard drive and youre good.

after you finish backing up files off your hard drive, feel free to send me an email and ill be happy to help \(^_^)/

Is it worth to purchase showpiece led tv in showroom?

I went to tv showroom, I selected
Samsung led tv, but the thing is he
don't have another box piece!
(wrapped new tv).. He said he only
has demo piece, which kept it open
for viewing customer. He said its new
piece only., is it ok to purchase that
tv?,?

Answer
The advantage is that you know it works and what it looks like - I would check carefully up close to be sure there were no dead pixels or any lines that should not be there, but if it looks good, and IF you get a percentage off of the price, and also make sure you'll still get the full warranty (usually a year on parts and workmanship), I'd do it.
You will probably want to recalibrate it (adjust picture settings) when you get it home, as showroom TVs usually have the brightness, contrast and backlighting cranked up to full to overcome showroom bight lighting conditions and screen glare, to make it look as bright a picture as possible. Often taking all 3 controls to 50 - 60% is a good idea (use your eyes to judge, or get a calibration DVD - here's a free file you can download/burn to do this if you like; read the instructions carefully):

Which 40 inch LCD/LED TV is good for taking to India from US?

BK

I am planning to take back one LCD/LED TV 40 inch from US to India. Please suggest make & model.
I will use DIsc/ Direct to Home (DTH) connection in India, so NTSC /PAL will not be a issue.

Answer
Bad Idea since US and India use different standards.

If you insist, you need to buy a multi-standard (NTSC/PAL) TV which cost much more.

I had purchased a Sumsung un32eh5000 LED tv. Now I am going to India and taking the tv with me. I need to know?

i dont know if i should get an LCD and LED or an Plasma any on give me some tips on which one to get

Answer
TV size matters.

37" and smaller - basic TVs will typically serve you fine. So that's a 720p 60Hz CCFL LCD. Its really all you need. As a gamer, maybe you can spring for 120Hz if you really want, but how valuable it is (compared to how much you'll pay for it) is debatable. Get into a store and look for yourself to see if its worth paying for.

40" - 46" - grey area. 1080p, LED LCD, 120Hz/240Hz, and/or Plasma are all advanced options you can see in this size that may or may not be worth it for you. People's visual sensitivities differ and so opinions vary on whether or not you should spring for more expensive options here. I lean towards the yes you should, but know many people that go 720p 60Hz CCFL LCD in this range and still love their viewing experience. I think as a gamer a 720p or 1080p Plasma here would be your best bet.

50"+ - 1080p Plasma. You'll really get the most of the advantages of those advanced features when you get into this size. You could also consider LED LCD here as well, with a high refresh rate. But Plasma will outperform it in fast motion playback, and for less cost, so might be better suited for a gamer.

Plasma vs LCD

LCDs inherently suffer problems with motion playback. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with the 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates. This feature helps out a lot, but is not 100%. And you are expected to pay a price premium for this add-on.

CCFL LCDs have muted colors, grey blacks, and so-so contrast. This is compensated for with the modern LED LCD. The LED backlight provides a massive jump in quality in regard to those 3 things. It brings it to a near Plasma/CRT/DLP level. Again you're expected to pay extra for this though.

Plasmas are inherently near instantaneous in their refresh rate. They are flawless in motion playback. And because its inherent to the technology, there is nothing extra to pay for.

Plasmas inherently deliver vivid color, true blacks, and deep contrast. They do this right out of the box. They are a better overall image. And so you get a better image and perfect motion playback without having to pay anything extra.

Plasmas only currently suffer from many myths and misconceptions. The main ones being that they suffer from burn-in, they are more expensive, they have shorter life spans, and they are energy hogs.

Modern Plasmas do not suffer from burn-in. After they are conditioned, you would have to actually work hard to accomplish a burn-in. To condition a new set all you need to do is keep the brightness and contrast turned way down for the first 100-200 hours of use. After that optimize and enjoy.

Plasmas are not more expensive than LCD rivals anymore. Any especially with LCDs needing high end features like 120Hz and LED backlights to compete. Those features often make LCD far more expensive to buy.

Plasmas do not have shorter life spans. The reputable brands will deliver models that are rated to 60,000 - 100,000 hours. That basically means that in 10 years time, at 8 hours a day, 365 days a year, you would only really see at most about a 10% loss in brightness. So the set is likely well useable for beyond 10 years.

Current Plasma models are now energy star certified. This means no more being power hogs against LCDs. They can match LCDs in this regard. But every model is different. There are some LCDs that still perform better, and there are some LCDs that perform much worse. It changes ever year as new models come out.

Do i need Samsung or Sony LCD screen to enjoy playing my ps3 games? also what size and ms and all that?

BoredKid23

Answer
To enjoy your PS3 games, no you do not need a Samsung or Sony LCD. To possibly maximize their visual offerings, then depending on what you currently own, yes, you may need a new TV to get the most out of the PS3 games.

If you really want to maximize what the PS3 can offer you want to look at 40" or bigger. In sets of 37" or smaller most advanced features are hard, if not impossible, to really see. They might help the image quality, but not to a huge extent (poor bang for the buck). As you break 40", but more so 50", their advantages become more visible.

The features I'm talking about are 1080p (vs 720p). 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates (vs 60Hz). LED LCD (vs CCFL). And Plasma (vs LCD, any type). For 37" or less all you need is a basic LCD typically. A CCFL 720p 60Hz LCD. But as you go bigger you should add the advanced options.

1080p vs 720p - 1080p adds more detail to the image and can allow you to view BluRay movies back in as close to a cinema like manner as possible.

120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates - LCDs can have problems with fast motion (ghost trails, motion blur). So to help reduce that, the manufacturers came out with the advanced refresh rates. These can help a lot, but do add to the expense of the LCD. For gaming, it is likely a feature you want to pursue, possibly even in smaller sizes.

LED - in larger sizes, the typical LCD light source, CCFL, can deliver muted colors, grey-ish blacks, and average contrast. So to help improve that manufacturers came out with LED LCDs. The LED light source helps bring vivid color, truer blacks, and deep contrast. It also helps to make for thinner profile TVs and ones that consume less electricity. Right now this is the most premium feature you can get so it adds a large expense onto TVs. Its not really "necessary" for gaming per say.

Plasma - Plasma is inherently flawless in motion playback (it has no problems with fast motion). It also inherently delivers vivid colors, true blacks, and deep contrast. Because all of this is inherent to the technology you don't have to pay anything extra for it.

Some people will say don't use Plasma for gaming because of burn-in. But that's an issue of the past. If you get a Panasonic Viera Plasma (the best there is), you shouldn't worry about burn-in issues at all. Also, Plasmas are no longer the energy hogs of the past, you can get Energy Star certified models now.

Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung are all top tier manufacturers. A TV from any of them would serve you quite well. Also, Sharp, LG, and Toshiba have offerings that are of extremely high quality and would be good considerations for your purchase decision. They all have a wide variety of models though, so be careful about which model you're specifically looking at (and what its features are).

Can you tell the difference between 720p and 1080p displayed on a 32 inch led hdtv?

i was looking to buy a 32 inch samsung led hdtv and i'm not sure if i should get the 720p or 1080p version. i like to sit fairly close to the tv due to my bad eyesight. i plan on using mostly to play call of duty and stream movies on Netflix. there is a one hundred dollar difference between the two tvs and i was wondering if is worth spending the extra money

Answer
It really gets down to personal preference. They say the tipping point between noticing a difference between 720 and 1080 is around 40". That is completely subjective though. The closer you sit...the more likely you are to notice. But then again...with poor eye sight (which you said you have) - you probably wont notice at all.

In the end...the only real way to tell is to look at both TV's on display somewhere and set yourself in front of them at about the same distance you would be at your home. If you can;t tell a difference...then save the money.

How do I improve my graphics on my Xbox 360?

Kirby165

Hi, I am currently playing my Xbox 360 on a 32 inch samsung LED tv. Right now I'm playing at 1080p (1920x1080) but looks kinda bad. When I could go to console settings, what should I put the following at, HDTV Settings, Reference levels, and HDMI Color Space; to ensure that I get the best graphics available.

Answer
The settings are there because every TV is different -- there's no one 'best' setting that works for everybody. Play with the settings and see which ones work best for you with your TV.

Most 360 games are 720p and just get scaled up to 1080p, so they're not always going to look the greatest.

How to judge/compare the quality of videooutput in LCD TVs ?

led tv vs lcd tv
on Comparison of LCD, edge-lit LED and LED TVs
led tv vs lcd tv image

pradeep_ll

i am planning to buy an LCD tv. but price difference between some brands are really huge. hence, can someone guide me, as to how do i know/judge the quality of video output in a television ?
(eg: in digicams, we look for megapixels & optical zoom etc.)

Answer
I suggest you read the reviews in www.cnet.com

The key components are:
Resolution: 720p vs 1080p
Backlight : regular vs LED
Contrast:
Response time
Connectors (VGA, HDMI, etc.)
Internet connection (Netflix, etc.)

Visit also local showrooms

What is the difference between brands of hd tvs that have the same specs but different prices?

also what is the difference and what is better plasma, led, lcd? Will the tv come with everything i need to get broadcast hd? What is 720 vs 1080?

Answer
A few things to check to select a set (other than the size that will work for your room layout):

Check the colors. Some sets have more brilliant colors than others.
Walk to the side of the set. Some sets have a very narrow "angle of view". Others can be seen clearly until you're so far to the side that you can't see the screen.
Check the features. Do you want to be able to connect your computer to the TV, to use it as a giant monitor? Do you want to be able to use your stereo to get better sound? Do you want a built-in DVD player. (Generally a bad idea unless the player is consumer-replaceable.)
Check prices for the same model from a few places. Buying locally costs sales tax. Buying on-line may cost shipping. Look at clubs. Even with the membership fee, BJs, Sams or Costco may be cheaper.

720 is lower definition than 1080. In a smaller set you'll never see the difference. In a larger set (40" or more) you may notice the difference - most people don't.

The TV will come with everything but an antenna and the cable to connect the antenna to the TV.

anyone have a subscription to Consumer Reports?

Hungry For

I carried a subscription for several years. At the end of last year I decided not to renew. I never got much use from it. Now I'm looking to buy a new television and I wish to know the top recommended in the 52 - 55" size range, but I don't want to buy another subscription. If you are current, please advise.

Answer
The last major test/review of TVs was in the March 2010 issue. Here are the top ratings:

LCD, 52 - 55 inches

1. LG 55LH90 full-matrix LED $2500
2. Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR10 edge-lit LED $4000
3. Toshiba Regza 55ZV650U CCFL LCD $2000
(15 total sets in the list.)

PLAZMA 50-55 inches

1. Samsung PN58B650 $1950
2. Panasonic Viera TC-P54Z1 $4000 (see note)
3. Panasonic Viera TC-P54V10 $2400
(9 sets in the list)

Note: #2 Panasonic plasma has a separate receiver console that connects to the display via a wireless link.

It should be noted that these tests were conducted about 5 - 6 months ago. Prices have probably come down since then and newer models may be out that are superior to one or more of these.

I have a toshiba 40 inch led 60 hertz refresh rate.

Answer
No. And don't worry about it. 120hz does not give you better contrast ratio, color, shadow detail, off angle viewing etc. It also causes other problems like massive response time lag, and artifacts because the frames it creates are not real. Just enjoy the TV that you have.

How high should i hang my led tv?

It's a 60" led tv
i have 8ft ceilings
I am sitting approx 10ft away from the tv
How high should i hang in?

Answer
60" is a big tv.. cool :)

I think the best position is 4-5 feet from ground, so it will be nice looking..

You're not put this TV on your bedroom right? 60" TV is too big for bedroom, if you want to have TV for your bedroom, you can buy a 24"-30" LED TV.. I recommend Viore LED24VF60 24-Inch LED http://www.beegadget.com/tv-and-video/viore-led24vf60-24-inch-led-1080p-hdtv-black because it cheap and have good picture

Is it possible a 60 Hz television looks more natural than a 120 Hz TV?

Eric W

I've seen a picture on an LED TV with 120 Hz refresh rate...and I can't quite put my finger on it, but something doesn't look quite right to me. Is it possible a refresh rate of 60 Hz looks more natural?

Answer
You could be noticing something that has been referred to as the 'soap opera effect' . This started showing up on 120HZ tv's that were designed to reduce motion blur or judder. The byproduct of this process created an unnatural look for movies.

What should I be looking for when buying a new TV?

Zeiinab

Yes we still own those ugly pregnant TVs haha.
We're upgrading and I wanted to know what the best TVs are.
My dads refuses to look at any other company but Sony (bravia).
Someone I know recently got a Samsung smart TV but it was a really crappy screen display.
I know LCD LED over plasma any day I studied it in school but there is so many to choose from.
Which is best?

Answer
- Top brands: Panasonic (Plasma) > Samsung (LED) > Sony (LED) > LG (LED). Top off brands for LED: Vizio, Toshiba, Phillips.
= Plasma has best picture and audio quality. Plasma has least/no motion blur problems (less blur for more crisp/clear/higher resolutions and best contrast ratios for best color quality especially for blacks and best frequency/hz response times.ect). Newer Plasmas have improved their burn in problems by using technologies like pixel shifting/scrolling. Newer Plasmas haved improved their screen glare problems (and set vivid mode for bright rooms, has other picture modes depending on lighting of room). Newer plasmas use less energy consumption and last longer. Plasma are cheaper to buy, that's why LED is more popular because they want you to buy more expensive cheap made tv's (LCD is becoming discontinued because LED is a LCD tv with LED back/edge lights which improves many things like Plasma).

- I recommend 1920x1080 for movies, computer monitor/display, some tv shows, and some game console games and I recommend 1920x720 for some tv shows and some game console games. I recommend 40+ inches for movies and/or tv shows and 20-30 inches for computer monitor and 30-40 inches for game console games.
- FPS (frames per second): Every video consists of a number of frames per second, think of a video as a fast moving flip book. NTSC countries use 60i or 30i FPS (newer stations use 30p or 60p FPS) for tv shows. PAL/SECAM countries use 50i or 25i FPS (newer stations use 25p or 50p FPS) for tv shows. Movies use 24p/25p FPS (first movie to use 48p was LOTR: The Hobbit). Games use anywhere to 2 to 120 FPS (older games use lower FPS while newer games use higher FPS).
- TV refresh rate (measured in hz): Example, A tv with a refresh rate of 120 hz means it refreshes/flashes the entire screen 120 times a second.

- How do LED or LCD tv refresh rates work with the FPS of a video? (I recommend real/true 240hz refresh rate, some tv advertising may fool you by listing the fake interpolation or fake backlight scanning/dimming refresh rates).
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_interpolation (Names of the new technologies for newer tv's at the link): Motion Interpolation or Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation (MCFI), is a form of video processing in which new fake frames are generated between existing ones to up the FPS of a video to reduce motion blur and/or for judder removal/judder adjustment. MCFI video processing may cause gamer input lag and/or artifacts such as the soap opera effect (may ruin the look of a video).
- Many tv's allow viewers to turn motion interpolation (MCFI) off. The tv repeats the frames a certain number of times to match the tv's refresh rate. Example; To display 24 frames per second on a tv with a 120 hz refresh rate, each frame is repeated 5 times every 24th of a second.
- But what happens if the FPS of a video does not match the refresh rate of the tv? Then you get a pulldown, a pulldown is what causes a jittery screen (aka judder) because the tv repeats the odd frames a different amount of times the tv repeats the even frames. Example; A 3:2 pulldown is post popular because it is needed to match a 24 fps video with a 60hz refresh rate tv, odd frames are repeated 3 times (12x3=36) and even frames are repated 2 times (12x2=24) and 36+24=60 FPS for a 60hz refresh rate tv.

How does Plasma tv refresh rates work with the FPS of a video?
- It will take each pixel in a frame and and repeat it a number of times based on the number of sub-field drives (SFD) the tv has with it's refresh rate. Example 1; (NTSC countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 60hz FPS x 10 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate. Example 2; (PAL/SECAM countries) 600hz sub-field drive/motion tv means 50hz FPS x 12 sub-fields per frame = 600hz refresh rate.
- What is focused-field drive (FFD) on Neo-Plasmas? (Light switching speed = better colors and less motion blur) 2500hz focused field drive means sub-fields are virtually packed into 1/2500th of a second as a sharp impluse, creating crisp motion images even in very very fast movining images (FFD is defined as a inverse of light emission period t. 1/t = 1/0.4ms = 2,500 FFD). Regular sub-feild drives like 50 FPS x 12 sub-fields = 600 hz, light emission spreads as wide as 1 field time (1/60th sec) maximum which results in blurry images for very very fast moving images.
- Refresh rates on Plasmas work similar to LED/LCD tv's. These settings are usually automatic, but you can change them in the advanced picture settings, Example 1; 2D 24p FPS mode and choose refresh rates of 48hz/96hz or 30hz/60hz with pulldown (might use interpolation frames for pulldowns), Example 2; 3D mode and choose refresh rates of 96hz for 24 FPS or 100hz for 50 FPS or 120hz for 60 or 24 fps.ect Of course it has gamer mode or many other adjustments.
