I'm looking for opinions and links:

What is, in your opinion, the best TV I can buy for under $1500? I'm looking for 40-46", and would prefer (but do not require) a fully back-lit, as opposed to edge-lit, LED model.

Suggestions?

Answer
LED TVs have great picture qualities and are energy efficient...but you can get better pic qualities out of a Panasonic Plasma TV for significantly less money!

I mean...what's the point of saving money on energy consumption of the TV when you have to pay so much more for the TV?!!! You're offsetting the energy consumption savings with a higher price premium!

Plasma TV's may use more electricity, but they are cheaper and have better motion clarity then LED TVs! Plasma TV's have near instant response times(.001ms)...LEDs response time(2ms)...2,000 times slower then Plasma! Plasma's also have faster refresh rates(600hz) then LED(240hz). Making Plasma TVs better at motion sharpness with fast motion content(sports, movies & gaming)!

More info here: http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/

My recommendations:

*Panasonic 42" 1080p(TC-P42S1): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+42%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9317287.p?id=1218084032650&skuId=9317287

**Panasonic 42" 1080p(TC-P42U1): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+42%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9244301.p?id=1218066284214&skuId=9244301

***Panasonic 46" 1080p(TC-P46S1): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+46%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9317269.p?id=1218084030037&skuId=9317269

****Panasonic 46" 1080p(TC-P46U1): http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/Televisions/VIERA-2009-HDTVs-Series/VIERA-U1-Series-Plasma-1080p-HDTVs/model.TC-P46U1_11002_7000000000000005702

And come to think of it, no LED company actually discloses the exact amount of electricity their TVs consume! For all we know is that it's not what they're saying! Panasonic not only discloses their TVs energy consumption, but also their TVs "native" contrast ratios! Compare that to the LED companies!

And Panasonic HDTVs have the lowest failure rate of any brand of HDTV!

How do I fix a projection screen going black for a second till it warms up?

BigBadWill

Hello,

How do I fix a big screen going black problem? I have a 12 year old Sony Big screen projection TV. Lately when I turn it on the screen will go black for a second then come back to normal. It will do this every 5-10 seconds for about a minute then it seems to warm up and works properly until I turn it off and back on again? Anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Shaun

Answer
sony has this funny way of blanking out the picture if it feels the three picture tubes are not balanced. It figures that if you own a Sony, then you will rather not see a picture then a picture that is slightly out of adjustment. This is what happens when you first turn it on, and the led blinks. It's warming up the tubes and trying to balance the outputs. When one of the tubes gets weak, you will have your problem. In the not too far future the set will stop showing a picture altogether. The problem is a very expensive repair, it requires a new crt and alignment. This is easily more than the set is worth. I don't recommend fixing it because if one tube is weak, the others are right behind it. To replace all three will approach $1500, if the parts are even still available.

Other manufacturers would let you watch the bad picture until a friend came over and said, "that's a shi**y picture".

How much duty I need to pay if I bring 42" LED TV form UAE its cost is AED: 1500/- (Rs. 21,750/-)?

Answer
For most cases (excluding travel from neighboring countries, minors, very short stays, etc.) the limits are Rs. 8000 for most foreigners, and Rs. 25,000 for Indians and foreigners of Indian origin.

Note that this is for GIFTS---things you'll leave in India, but not commercial imports.

Look at this ones:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_ss_i_0_9%26field-keywords%3Dled%2520tv%252055%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps%26sprefix%3Dled%2520tv%252055&tag=stevewillarev-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

100's of positive reviews, and below your $1700 limit.
Good luck

When do you think all 3D LED TVs will be sold for $2500 at the most?

Good Vibes

I have 1 HD LED TV, 2 HD LCD monitors one for PC and PS3. I do not plan on buying any other screens for about 1-2 or more years, with all these games that support 3D and along with PS Move I really want one though, but for the right price. I prefer $1500 over $2500 anytime when I'm buying lol, do you think they'll go that low?

Answer
The technology is still quite new (though the concepts have been around for decades). So the prices are going to be high for a couple years, though down the line with more players and buyers, the prices could become reasonable.
