If you have no interest in accessing the internet through the tv or have a blue ray player that already does this there is no reason to buy a 7 series. The 8 series however offers 240 hz refresh rate as opposed to the 120 hz of the 7 and 6 series.

I own a 47 inch LCD screen LG TV. Something was thrown at the screen and although it looks okay while turned off, when you turn it on the image is shattered. About how much would this repair cost?

It will cost you more to have it repaired than just buying a new one. The labor cost of repair is very high. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of Plasma and LCD/LED tvs. You will notice that Panasonic has a tv recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end. While Samsung, Sony and Toshiba (the top other brands) does not (April issue). Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio (the next 4 brands) did not even get mentioned. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems is from LCD/LED tvs and 95% of those are off brands. Hope this will help you out.
