Is there a big difference in picture in an LCD TV compared to an LED TV?

Thinking about buying a new 32' tv 1080p maybe with 120hz but probably 60hz but anyways the LED TV's are like $200 more is that just because they are new or are they better?

Answer
The advice you're getting here is more theoretical than practical. The fact is that an "LED" TV is simply an LCD set that uses light emitting diodes for the backlight instead of a fluorescent lamp. Also, whether an "LED" set is dramatically thinner depends on whether it uses edge-lit backlighting or full matrix backlighting. The edge-lit sets are amazingly thin; the full matrix sets are more ordinary.

Your question asks if there is a "big" difference in the picture between the two, and the answer is no. A very good conventional LCD TV will give you a dazzling HD picture and so will almost any "LED" TV. If it has full matrix backlighting, the contrast will be better in specific areas of the screen, but again it's not a "big" difference from a conventional set.

Buy an "LED" TV with edge-lit backlighting if you want a very thin set, or with either type if you want the latest technology and a savings in power consumption. Otherwise, a top-of-the-line conventional LCD set may be the better value and will give you substantially the same quality picture.

How do I connect my HDTV to local channels without a cable service?

Life Is Be

My tv is a Samsung 32" 1080p led tv. However I have looked everywhere for how to connect my tv to my city's local channels without a cable service.
These are the connections on my tv

The ant in one looks like one I have in my apartment wall. Do I need that converter box? I thought that was for only older tvs. Do I need an antenna or a cable cord? Please help, I want to watch my local channels.

Answer
The wall outlet is for a paid cable service that you don't have. You *may* be able to get your local channels with a very good indoor antenna, but understand that indoor antennas don't work well (or at all) for many people. It depends on how far away you are from the TV transmitting towers and what's between you and them.

There are a lot of junky indoor antennas for sale that will mostly take your money and do little else. If (and only if) your location is suitable for an indoor antenna, the one to consider is the one in the first link below. If I had to use an indoor antenna, it's the only one I'd buy. It's not the cheapest you can find, but you definitely get what you pay for.

If you want a better prediction on what channels you should be able to get, edit your question with your Zip code (if you're in the U.S.). Or, you can do the research yourself at the 2nd link below.

Hi, I am currently playing my Xbox 360 on a 32 inch samsung LED tv. Right now I'm playing at 1080p (1920x1080) but looks kinda bad. When I could go to console settings, what should I put the following at, HDTV Settings, Reference levels, and HDMI Color Space; to ensure that I get the best graphics available.

Answer
The settings are there because every TV is different -- there's no one 'best' setting that works for everybody. Play with the settings and see which ones work best for you with your TV.

Most 360 games are 720p and just get scaled up to 1080p, so they're not always going to look the greatest.

Would a 720p LED TV have a better picture than a 1080p LCD TV?

y2kbug77

I'm looking to get a TV for college and I'm going for either a 26 or 32 inch. I know there are alot of new technologies in LED TVs and I was wondering if these technologies would give the LED an advantage over an LCD TV that is 1080p compared to the LEDs lower resolution of 720p.

Answer
any tv smaller than 42" you can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080. So get the LED because of the better technology behind it. (Low energy, deeper blacks, higher visual quality)

Samsung 32" 1080p 60Hz LED Smart TV (UN32EH5300FXZC). My computer doesn't have HDMI (it's about 5 years old).
Also, will audio still be directed to my PC speakers and not to the tv?

Answer
Use a VGA cable to connect it

How can I use headphones on a tv without a headphone jack?

Answer
There should be a slot somewhere called "audio output."
Look for it and plug it in
