Plasma or wait for 3d Tv?

mark n

Recently my tv has been giving me problems and Best Buy is replacing it for me. I have on order a 58" Samsung Plasma ($1599). I game a lot and watch movies and sports. I have hear Plasma is best for this. Today i have been hearing everyone takling about 3D tv thats possibly coming out. Bestbuy is giving me $1599 credit for my tv, so should I be happy with my Plasma? or should i try to put things on hold til 3d comes out? I have never cared about 3d in the past, but always worry about getting older tech. Thoughts?

Answer
you are SMART. Plasma is the BEST HD TV for big screen in PICTURES QUALITY and PRICES.
Samsung Plasma in WORLD TOP 2 next to Panasonic Plasma. is great.
3D TV is for FUN just for some specials movies for not more that 4 hours.
if you continue 3D movies for more than 6 hours. you EYE become " blur ".3D TV can never become popular , or it mat take another 10-20 years become common.
Enjoy you great Samsung Plasma TV for another 8 to 10 + years. than change to RELIABLE TECHNOLOGIES TV at that time. however , in next 20 years, Plasma TV will taken more than 60 % market share in BIG SCREEN TV. as growth from every Q for 30 % from Q1 2009.

Are these AMAZON BASICS HDMI CABLES any good to play PS3 in a FULL HD LED TV?

David

I need a HDMI cable to order with my console but i don´t know which one to choose...Is to plug into an Samsung FULL HD LED TV.

Answer
You said "these" but then provided no link, but I went to Amazon and searched [basic hdmi cable] and returned this:

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Supports-Ethernet-Standard/dp/B0052SCU8U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368972449&sr=8-1&keywords=basic+hdmi+cable

Yes, these are high-speed (says so right on the connectors) cables that will handle 1080p signals (actually, they are the "latest standard" so will handle twice that resolution, known as 4K - 4096Ã2160p), Ethernet, 3D, ARC (Audio Return Channel), and other protocols (such as HDCP). See here (chart about halfway down the page):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

Amazon says "latest standard" since the HDMI organization has since January 2012, done away with Version Numbers in all packaging and advertising. See here (middle right of page):

Hope this helps...

Do 3-D LED tv's have just as good of picture resolution as regular LED tvs?

Jose

I am looking to buy a 3d tv, specifically Samsung, and i was wondering if i didn't want to watch in 3-d, could i still watch tv in high resolution? and would the resolution be just as good as a regular LED tv? I wan't to make sure that the 3-d doesn't take away anything from the picture resolution . thanks for the help.

Answer
The new full HD 3D technology just came out read reviews on amazon c-net and AVS forums there is a huge difference in the 3d from just last year, less ghosting off axis viewing a full cpu conrtolled image technology so the new 3D tvs from samsung are incredible and they use ulta light battery operated glasses a little round watch type battery with new active shutter technology for true full hd-3d.the passive 3d is pushed mostly by lg and is no where near as good as active shutter passive will get better over time but right now the new samsung active shutter with full hd-3d is the best out.2012 over 2011 is huge in quality,I have a d8000 2011 model 3d and just got a 2012 E8000 and the difference is stunning. The light drop when switching is hardly noticeable as it was an issue of past,my 2011 set drops light my e sries you barely notice the ml difference. It's a complete redesign for 2012.Check the reviews for yorself, but I have both and the new samsungs are awesome.

How long do you think it will take for the price of OLED TV to come down?

I heard that the price of OLED TV will come down after some time. Normal people like us can only wait for that time in order to afford it.

Answer
I don't agree with people predicting 5 to 10 years for OLED to come down to the price of a really good LCD or Plasma TV. Yes the first flat panel TVs were crazy expensive. The price of the first sets in 1997-98 were in 10k, 20k, just insane, and the image quality was horrid, and they weren't even HD. By 2005 or so, a really good plasma TV was about 3-4k give or take. That was only 7 years later.

Just 3 years ago, I kept reading that the first mass market OLEDs would be small, and very expensive. I also read that large sizes would be difficult to make. Sony made one for 2k but it was tiny, and not mass market. Now LG and Samsung announce that they are launching OLED, and it will drop in 2012, and it will be 55 inches. Also rumors keep floating around of a 10 thousand US dollar price point.

We all know everything gets better and cheaper, but everyone also forgets the faster part. If OLED launches this year, it will only take 3 years, 4 max for OLED to cost what a top notch LCD or Plasma TV does today. TV makers will stick to larger sizes to command higher prices and profit margins, but they cannot do it forever. by 2016 LCD and Plasma tech will be on the way out.

By 2020 I cannot imagine LCD would even exist, maybe only for rock bottom, budget stuff. Plasma could still be a niche market for those that might not like the 'look' of OLED. But let's be honest, plasma could be dead, and another new tech like Sony's crystal LED could be floating around.

Is this a good tv when it comes to technology?

Danny

I'm going to get a led 1080p 3d Sony bravia. I'm looking for a Sony bravia 3d tv at like 32 inch can you tell me if this is good when it comes to technology

Answer
It actually depends on which tv series are you buying from their line-up. When it comes to sony their series for 2012 include the HX, EX, BX series. Sony has announced 10 tv's for this year.
If you are looking for the best of sony's technology then the hx series is the one to go for as it is their top-of-the-line, but it is only available from 36 inch size and is going to cost a fortune.
The ex line up suits most of your needs as it has full HD led displays and ample older tech like the motionflow240 but all models lack 3d.
The bx series is the bottom-of-the-line series and has hd ready displays and almost none of the premim sony features.
Thats all from sony for this year. Their most noticeable upgrade compared to last year is the new x-reality engine which is mostly all about up scaling internet and low resolution content.
All things said I suggest you take a look at the samsung line up as well, simply because there is a ton to choose from, most are smart tv's and some of their smart tv's have "smart evolution kit" slot which upgrades the tv to new software without having to buy a brand new set. This would mean not just having the latest tech but also being future-proof.
Hope it helped :)
