Whose 'retirement' do u consider to be more memorable & affecting: Ric Flair (2008) or Shawn Michaels (2010)?

The Clown

By affecting, of course I mean affecting to the business.

Answer
Ric Flair's retirement was made as a bigger deal because he was obviously considered the greatest ever by many, and it even led to the Undertaker/ McMahon breaking character to come and hug him in the ring after the Raw TV taping was over and after all the other superstars had paid their respect.

Shawn Michaels' retirement also had Undertaker breaking character to an extent after their Mania match and the next night on Raw, however it didn't have all the superstars come out to pay their respect as they did to Flair (only HHH came out in Michaels' case). However, Shawn retired after the better match, definitely.

But Ric Flair's retirement, for all that grandness, was just a joke. He returned back to the ring to fight Hulk Hogan in the Hulkamania tour in Australia and is now on TNA. So basically, it was not a retirement after all, and that is really an insult to the great send-off that he received from his peers, juniors and fans in 2008.

Due to that reason, I would rate Shawn Michaels' retirement higher than Ric Flair's. Flair's was memorable due to the send-off but it wasn't that "affecting" as it was not a real retirement from the ring since he is back in the ring now. So, Shawn's retirement was more "affecting" because he did not come back to the business, but Flair did, in a way that I and many veteran fans will not appreciate.

Answer
Kerry Armstrong (b. 3 January 1958, Sydney) is a well-known Australian actress who is best known for her incredible flexibility within roles. She is only one of two actors to date to win two awards in one year at that Australian Film Institute Awards.

Armstrong has had various stints on television in the 1970s including a role in the first 44 episodes of Prisoner.

As was common among Australian actors of the time, Armstrong emigrated to the United States in 1981 to study at the Herbert Berghof acting school in New York City. Whilst there, she starred in Tom Stoppard's "Dalliance", had an on-going role in daytime serial One Life to Live, and became part of the 'Actor's Gang' along with John Cusack and her boyfriend at the time, Tim Robbins. After working in the groups' plays - which she has stated were her favorite part of her time in America - Armstrong starred on Dynasty as Duchess Helena. She began receiving job offers - including a part on Saturday Night Live, and a three-picture deal, which she turned down.

In 1987, Armstrong's grandmother died and she returned to Australia, where she assumed that she would continue her rising career path. However, instead, she found less work in her native country than abroad. Around this time she met her third husband, Mac Gudgeon, with whom she had a son. They divorced a few years later.

In the early 1990s, Armstrong began acting in television series in Australia, including Ocean Girl, All Together Now and Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left. However, after meeting builder Mark Croft and having twin boys with him, the lack of work - a problem that had been growing relatively common in the Australian industry - almost led her to quit acting.

This likely would have happened, had she not been offered a role in the cast of SeaChange in 1998, as Heather Jelly, the ever-devoted but long-suffering wife of corrupt local mayor Bob (John Howard). The role won her critical acclaim, mainstream attention and several awards.

When the series ended in 2000, Armstrong continued on with her theatre work and also led the cast of Lantana, the award winning Ray Lawrence film also starring Anthony LaPaglia, Barbara Hershey, Geoffrey Rush, Glenn Robbins and Vince Colosimo.

Not only did Armstrong win both the IF Award and the Australian Film Institute Award for this performance, but â the same year â she won another AFI, for final season of SeaChange, making her the second actress to win two AFI awards in one year (the first was Sacha Horler for Soft Fruit and Praise.

In 2002 she joined the cast of medico-legal drama MDA on ABC alongside Jason Donovan and Shane Bourne. However, the low wages of the Australian television industry meant that working on one television show was not viable enough and so Armstrong left the series at the end of its second season. In the series her character, Dr. Ella Davis, left the firm that was the focus of the show.

Armstrong's most recent role was a small part in the low-budget film The Oyster Farmer.

Awards:
1991 - Nominated - Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award - Best Actress - Hunting
2000 - Nominated - Logie Award - Outstanding Actress in TV Series - SeaChange
2001 - Winner - Logie Award - Outstanding Actress in TV Series - SeaChange
2001 - Winner - If Award - Best Actress - Lantana (shared with co-stars Barbara Hershey, Leah Purcell, Rachel Blake and Daniella Farinacci
2001 - Winner - AFI Award - Best Actress - Lantana
2001 - Winner - AFI Award - Best Actress (Television) - SeaChange
2002 - Winner - Film Critics Circle of Australia Award - Best Actress - Lantana
2002 - Nominated - AFI Award - Best Actress (Television) - MDA

A question about Benizir Bhutto.....?

Robert O

I was very young, but i remember when she was Prime Minister of Pakistan. A female in charge of a muslim country. Having learned about the culture of islam and the culture that preceded it, this for me, was hope incarnate. Mind you, still just a kid growing up in Munich.
Now, I'm older and our country's (or the west as a whole)relationship with this part of the world has really gone awry. When did she just become fodder? What are we REALLY doing to each other?

Answer
Hi Rob, Benazir Bhutto, was the Prime Minister of Pakistan a few times after her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was assassinated in 1979. She was the Prime Minister in 1988 and was sacked over alleged corruption charges in 1990 and Sharif took over. She returned a the Prime Minister in 1993 until 1996 when Sharif took over again. In 1999 Benazir and also her husband were sentenced for five years taking kick backs with a Swiss company which was over turned and her and her husband were exiled from Pakistan. She joined the Alliance for the restoration of Democracy with Prime Minister Sharif to create a civilian led democracy with the President of Pakistan to memory his name is Musharraf. Benazir was interviewed here in Australia in October just before she returned to Pakistan . During the interview she was asked if she was concerned about her safety on returning back to Pakistan. She said boldly she was willing to take the risk for all the people of Pakistan to return even if it meant loosing her life to change government to a civilian led democracy. Watching the news feed coming in very early yesterday morning (I work in TV) was quite disturbing this happening so soon on her return back to Pakistan. She never was fodder in her political career there was a deal going on between Sharif and the Pakistan military to get rid of her by claiming she was corrupt by taking kick backs, it was found it wasn't true. This was done to her to stop her being re elected on the 8th of January, it's ironic how everytime something like happens, George Bush gets all US citizens paranoid and US media and press play on for weeks about alcada terrorists and 9/11. To keep the focus off of one of the biggest recessions USA will experience this year. Rob there was only one suicide bomber who did this Benazir, not a terrorist group. Benazir Bhutto political career was one of the subjects I had to study in University in war and political history in human behavior. So you lived abroad too as a kid. Me too I'm from the US and went to school in Australia as a kid and become a permanent resident. So I'm not influenced by US media or press which is only 10% if even that, truth. As for the war on terror there isn't one in Iraq or Afghanistan. I can't wait to see the American public reaction knowing the real truth. I'm watching US news feeds coming from NBC our sister station. With the over dramatized fear factor added to it. No wonder why you would think the way you do. Just relax stop worrying, worry about who your going to kiss on NYE. Unfortunately I have to work. You have a great day mate and Happy New Year.

thinking about working with children..... ?

Q. so, im 14 and a freshman in High school.. people keep telling me i need to decide soon what i want to do career wise so we can focus most of my schoolwork aroud that interest. right now im babysitting a little girl whenever her parents go out and im watching about 8 kids with 2 of my friends every wednesday at church for an hour. i love both animals and kids, so i was thinking about maybe having a horse riding stable for disabled or problemed kids/teens. but i know thats a little unrealistic.
if i dont get to work with horses or any animals i can always own them and just have them as my hobby.

my question is, what job could i have that involves kids... but isnt teaching?
any age, but preferably 6yrs and younger.

**im probably asking this in multiple sections, so if you see it twice that why ;) **

Answer
I actually don't think your dream of having a therapeutic riding centre is unrealistic at all ;-)

I would just do some things like getting work experience in the area so you could see if you like it or not. It is very rewarding, but can also be physical assisting riders to stay balanced and on a horse.

Work experience could lead to volunteering and even working in the field, this would enable you to see what type of demand there is for it and if you could make a living.

However your quite right about being able to still have your animals if you don't end up working with horses. I was burnt out from jobs involving horses, physically and emotionally. Many horse related jobs are hard work and little pay. I lived in caravans and pretty ordinary places that bosses provided.

My last straw was a stable hand position with one of Australia's Olympic riders 15 years ago, big flash warmbloods and lots of fancy shows. But behind the scenes we were living in a caravan, 2 girls handling 40 horses, you got 30 minutes for lunch and that was it. I was burned out from working 5am until 8pm seven days a week. We hardly got any riding or lesson time, which was supposed to be part of the deal. Exhausted I came down sick one day, packed my car and never went back.

After that I went into customer service and quickly became a manager (which still surprised me LOL) I went from mucking out stables to management in 1.5 years.

When I moved to my husbands farm I got a very good government job and progressed quickly there also. It was a blessing in disguise, because I was able to have my horses at home and earn enough money to be able to enjoy them. Suddenly I could afford a new rug or bridle and life was not so much of a struggle.

Of track as usual (LOL). The reason I answered was because I thought you might enjoy the field of special needs aide. My disabled daughter has a full time aide with her at school all day. They are the most wonderful and caring people I have ever met. It takes a special person to have the kindness, compassion, empathy and patience to work with special needs children.

The work can range from a child who just needs assistance with school work at the desk, to a high needs child like mine who needs full care. There are many levels of care needed and most schools don't require special qualifications.

My other thought is, not to rule in or out things based on what you will do when your married with children. Simply because things change so very much. I did not want any children and now I have 4 beautiful girls and would love more (but we are not ;-)

You might be living in a wonderful small town and may be happy to send your kids to school, you could be the teacher at that school or your future partner may not think that home schooling is appropriate and you both compromise? Many variables and we could guess all day ;-)

"IF" you were interested in teaching it could lead to other job opportunities from home or part time when you do have children. Like even tutoring from home.

Or you can go the other way and get your business qualifications so you could operate a small business (or large) if you were to open up a riding centre or some other sort of business.

I focused my whole 2 senior years on marketing, promotions, management, graphic design and horses. I originally wanted to be a marketing manager or architect.

And although I have not ended up in either of these jobs, I do use the skills often. I was the publicity officer for my hockey association for 3 years. Writing all of the newspaper articles each week, conducting TV interviews etc. I was the publicity and promotions officer for the polocrosse club for 2 years.

Each of those positions led me to learn and gain more skills and it all just snowballed into positives ;-) I still use my skills in any correspondence I do now and they were wonderful opportunities for me.

Another thought while writing this is an Occupational Therapist. My daughters OT helps with our riding therapy at home sometimes because she has horses and understands the benefits of riding from her knowledge of the body and how it functions. An OT is another job you could do from home if you ever needed to ;-)

I would not be too concerned if your not 100% sure on which direction to take. You seem like a very sensible young person who will be a successful member of society in any field of work you do.

Good luck ;-)
