Answer
Kerry Armstrong (b. 3 January 1958, Sydney) is a well-known Australian actress who is best known for her incredible flexibility within roles. She is only one of two actors to date to win two awards in one year at that Australian Film Institute Awards.

Armstrong has had various stints on television in the 1970s including a role in the first 44 episodes of Prisoner.

As was common among Australian actors of the time, Armstrong emigrated to the United States in 1981 to study at the Herbert Berghof acting school in New York City. Whilst there, she starred in Tom Stoppard's "Dalliance", had an on-going role in daytime serial One Life to Live, and became part of the 'Actor's Gang' along with John Cusack and her boyfriend at the time, Tim Robbins. After working in the groups' plays - which she has stated were her favorite part of her time in America - Armstrong starred on Dynasty as Duchess Helena. She began receiving job offers - including a part on Saturday Night Live, and a three-picture deal, which she turned down.

In 1987, Armstrong's grandmother died and she returned to Australia, where she assumed that she would continue her rising career path. However, instead, she found less work in her native country than abroad. Around this time she met her third husband, Mac Gudgeon, with whom she had a son. They divorced a few years later.

In the early 1990s, Armstrong began acting in television series in Australia, including Ocean Girl, All Together Now and Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left. However, after meeting builder Mark Croft and having twin boys with him, the lack of work - a problem that had been growing relatively common in the Australian industry - almost led her to quit acting.

This likely would have happened, had she not been offered a role in the cast of SeaChange in 1998, as Heather Jelly, the ever-devoted but long-suffering wife of corrupt local mayor Bob (John Howard). The role won her critical acclaim, mainstream attention and several awards.

When the series ended in 2000, Armstrong continued on with her theatre work and also led the cast of Lantana, the award winning Ray Lawrence film also starring Anthony LaPaglia, Barbara Hershey, Geoffrey Rush, Glenn Robbins and Vince Colosimo.

Not only did Armstrong win both the IF Award and the Australian Film Institute Award for this performance, but â the same year â she won another AFI, for final season of SeaChange, making her the second actress to win two AFI awards in one year (the first was Sacha Horler for Soft Fruit and Praise.

In 2002 she joined the cast of medico-legal drama MDA on ABC alongside Jason Donovan and Shane Bourne. However, the low wages of the Australian television industry meant that working on one television show was not viable enough and so Armstrong left the series at the end of its second season. In the series her character, Dr. Ella Davis, left the firm that was the focus of the show.

Armstrong's most recent role was a small part in the low-budget film The Oyster Farmer.

A question about Benizir Bhutto.....?

Robert O

I was very young, but i remember when she was Prime Minister of Pakistan. A female in charge of a muslim country. Having learned about the culture of islam and the culture that preceded it, this for me, was hope incarnate. Mind you, still just a kid growing up in Munich.
Now, I'm older and our country's (or the west as a whole)relationship with this part of the world has really gone awry. When did she just become fodder? What are we REALLY doing to each other?

Answer
Hi Rob, Benazir Bhutto, was the Prime Minister of Pakistan a few times after her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was assassinated in 1979. She was the Prime Minister in 1988 and was sacked over alleged corruption charges in 1990 and Sharif took over. She returned a the Prime Minister in 1993 until 1996 when Sharif took over again. In 1999 Benazir and also her husband were sentenced for five years taking kick backs with a Swiss company which was over turned and her and her husband were exiled from Pakistan. She joined the Alliance for the restoration of Democracy with Prime Minister Sharif to create a civilian led democracy with the President of Pakistan to memory his name is Musharraf. Benazir was interviewed here in Australia in October just before she returned to Pakistan . During the interview she was asked if she was concerned about her safety on returning back to Pakistan. She said boldly she was willing to take the risk for all the people of Pakistan to return even if it meant loosing her life to change government to a civilian led democracy. Watching the news feed coming in very early yesterday morning (I work in TV) was quite disturbing this happening so soon on her return back to Pakistan. She never was fodder in her political career there was a deal going on between Sharif and the Pakistan military to get rid of her by claiming she was corrupt by taking kick backs, it was found it wasn't true. This was done to her to stop her being re elected on the 8th of January, it's ironic how everytime something like happens, George Bush gets all US citizens paranoid and US media and press play on for weeks about alcada terrorists and 9/11. To keep the focus off of one of the biggest recessions USA will experience this year. Rob there was only one suicide bomber who did this Benazir, not a terrorist group. Benazir Bhutto political career was one of the subjects I had to study in University in war and political history in human behavior. So you lived abroad too as a kid. Me too I'm from the US and went to school in Australia as a kid and become a permanent resident. So I'm not influenced by US media or press which is only 10% if even that, truth. As for the war on terror there isn't one in Iraq or Afghanistan. I can't wait to see the American public reaction knowing the real truth. I'm watching US news feeds coming from NBC our sister station. With the over dramatized fear factor added to it. No wonder why you would think the way you do. Just relax stop worrying, worry about who your going to kiss on NYE. Unfortunately I have to work. You have a great day mate and Happy New Year.
