We are planning on buying a new LED TV; however, we are confused as to whether we should buy a full HD TV or HD ready TV. Do they really have to do something with the quality of video aired by TV channel stations?

Answer
This is a very confusing terms. Let me explain the story:

In the US - there were lawsuits over the type of antenna signals. TV Makers had a problem. If they included tuners designed with 1 type of antenna signals and the format changed, the televisions would not work with an antenna. So they started building and selling televisions WITHOUT tuners. This worked great for people with satellite or cable box's who did not care about using an antenna, and consumers who did want to use an antenna could buy an external box for .. $150.

This caused confusion so they made a law that these televisions had to be called "HD Ready".

This had nothing to do with 720 or 1080 or "full HD" - In the United States.

In Europe and India - the term could mean something different. Learn this before you purchase.

MY ADVICE:

IF the screen size is below 40 inches - you can get away with a HDTV that is native 720.

If the screen size is above 40 inches - get the 1080 version.

Hope this helps.

How to add a TV and Antenna to a boat?

Dita

We purchased lightly used Monterey power boat and it doesn't have a TV in it. We've been shopping around and found a new LED TV for the cabin, but trying to figure out how to run the wires. We were told that an outside antenna has to be added too. Help! We're both not good at this stuff. How do we get behind these panels to do this?

Answer
You don't state what model of Monterey you have, but if you have an "Electronics" arch on the boat, there are cover plates that can be removed so that you can mount and run the wires in there. Once inside of the arch, there should be "Feeder Tubes" for the wire/cable to the upper portion of the boat. This is were things get tricky. You'll need to figure out where you want the TV mounted and run everything to that point. Hope the TV you purchased has a 12 volt operation. That will make things a bunch easier, if not, then you'll need to have a voltage "Inverter" installed too. I'd recommend you check with a Monterey dealer and have them do the work since both of you are technically challenged. Lot's of things can get broken or damaged if not removed correctly.

I've done the type of work like what you're doing, but it was on a Sea Ray. Good Luck and Happy Boating.
