I have a LED Samsung TV and I'm trying to use the apps and internet on it but I do not have the USB adapter to make it wireless connection. Since my router is located in another room, I can not hard wire it either. Is there possibly a way to use my macbook or windows based computer to feed internet to my TV, maybe by connecting it USB to USB or using an ethernet cable to connect them?

Answer
Forget wireless, bridging and the laptop. Ethernet over powerline is what you need.

EOP:

This way you get great speeds and don't have to run a wire + the single never drops.

Connect one to an outlet by the router and one by the tv. The power lines in your home become the wire.

To suggest having the laptop on 24/7 and the use of bridging is a very unorthodox and cumbersome solution that is very likely to cause problems.

It is only $20-25 more and requires no configuration (no passwords , no ssid) , will never drop, wired speeds , is not substitutable to noise or walls, provides 24/7 connectivity without the use of a laptop. I would say all of this is worth the $20.

How can I have internet access for my home and laptop?

I'm pretty new to the whole lap top thing. I bought one because I'm taking online classes. I am already paying for internet at home and don't want to pay for the broadband access as well. I don't really know a whole lot about the "hot spot" thing, but I need to have access in all the rooms of my house, work, and library. Any suggestions?

Answer
Here's the low down on using your laptop to connect to any internet sources (home, office, or public places) without using wires.

Your recently purchased laptop should come with a "wifi receiver" built in. How you can tell is to look for an On/Off wifi switch on the side or back of your laptop. There should also be a small LED light near it to show that it's On or Off. Assuming you have this, your laptop should be ready for use with any internet sources (from home, at any wifi hotspot such as at a hotel, McDonald, Starbucks, etc...). If your laptop doesn't have this, then you'll need to buy a "USB wifi device" (costs around $20 max) to connect to your laptop USB port.

For connecting your laptop to any public places or at work, here's the steps:
1. Make sure your laptop wifi receiver is turned ON.
2. Wifi hotspots are free wireless internet for people to use.
The free ones are typically at McDonalds, some hotels (actually it's
not really free since you'll need to pay for the room to get it), and
near public areas such as airports, libraries, etc.... Your
laptop should automatically detect these and connect to them
behind the scene and all you'll need to do is open up your internet
browser and perform a simple registration and then surf the web.
In the cases where you have multiple connection choices, you may
want to configure your laptop wifi to the one with the strongest
signal strength so that you can get fast internet connections.

Another source for free wifi is your neighbor. He may have wireless
internet setup for his house and may not have secure it with a
password. So if you live near him, your laptop wifi should detect
his signal and can to connect to it which allows you free internet
as long as he doesn't turn off his internet or secure it with a pwd.

Some of the paid wifi hotspots area are Starbucks (which requires
a paid subscription to AT&T), Barnes and Nobles Bookstore (which
requires a paid subscription to T-Mobile), etc.... Naturally your
laptop won't be able to use the internet via these locations since it
will ask for a subscription number or ID.
3. To use your laptop with your home internet without wires, you will
need to
a. Make your internet connection at home wireless, if not already.
Whether you have a DSL internet or Cable internet at home,
if you see one small box (with phone lines then it's DSL or with
TV coax cable then it's cable) connected to another small box
(which are typically a wireless router) then you should already
be configured for wireless internet. If this is the case then your
laptop should be able to connect to it (which may require a
password - see the person setting it up for it so that you can
know it).
If it's not wireless, then you'll need to buy a wifi router from the
local electronics store such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc...
and install it with your internet source.
