Democrats, exactly what bill is it that Obama and the democrats passed that led to hiring and boosting?

RJC

The economy?

Other than printing money and borrowing from China to prop the stock market?

Answer
According to OBAMA- on TV - the Obama economy began June 2009 and ended January 2011; because
According to OBAMA, REPUBLICANS have BLOCKED his every wish since then; so
According to OBAMA, the Obama economy delivered an average net LOSS of 38,000 jobs per month; and
According to OBAMA, BLOCKING the Obama agenda has delivered an average net gain of 151,400 jobs per month; meaning
According to OBAMA, preventing the Obama agenda is 189,400 jobs per month better than letting the Obama agenda go forward.

Television signal problems?

Swamp Gato

When we first moved here we got really good TV reception. We used to get some channels from as far away as about 300 - 400 miles. Than people started getting satellite TV and when the satellite dishes went up in our area our signal went down, the more dishes, the more our reception went down. Now we get just 2 channels, sometimes 4. Who wants to watch nothing but PBS and Create???

We dumped the converter box when we needed to replace it for the 4th time, the cost was killing us and the boxes wouldn't last 6 months even.

We bought a new TV (Digital) and the best antenna that Radio Shack sold (Our old antenna was over 30 years old and broken). We had been getting 8 channels until we went digital, than we went down to 4 and often just 2. We bought a signal booster, the one recommended by Radio Shack. It didn't help, so we returned it.

We live in a very rural area and have to pull a signal from about 100 miles away. We have been told the new set-up for TV has a range of 50 miles. We are on a very tight budget and can't afford satellite. I am disabled and dying, some days I need to spend all day in bed and without good TV it gets pretty boring.

Before we waste any more money, we would like to find a workable solution to our problem. Can anyone help us find something that will bring in a signal from far away? All we have locally is Radio Shack, so if it is something we would have to buy, it would have to be bought on the Internet.

All help would be greatly appreciated.
We live in the country, near Elmira, Michigan (49730). It is about 60 miles south of the bridge that connects the lower and upper peninsula. We used to get 3 canadian stations but not after the satellite dishes went up in our area.

We thought about going higher with the antenna and try to get above the satellite signals, but that would require about 20 feet higher, we are up 13 foot already. That would require tie downs and the area around our home is not big enough for them.

Answer
I agree with the other answer almost 100%, except that you cannot count on all of your available channels being UHF. The majority are, but in almost every market, there are some important VHF channels. In my area, that includes ABC and PBS. The antenna array suggested in the other answer won't work so hot on VHF.

Rather than do any more guessing, edit your question with your Zip code. From that, either of us can give you a better answer on what channels you should be able to receive and with what type of antenna installation.
----------------
Per your Additional Details:

Okay, first, forget the satellite dishes. They have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of your reception.

The reason it seems more difficult to pull in distant stations is because of the digital transition that occurred with U.S. stations in June 2009 and with Canadian stations in August 2011. The nature of digital modulation is such that you need a stronger signal to lock in a station. With analog, a weak signal is still watchable; just a little snowy. With digital, a weak signal doesn't show up at all.

Now, you are within easy range of a good variety of stations. There are some 23 miles to the southwest near Kalkaska, and others about 12 miles away near Vanderbilt/Gaylord. You can see how I found that by putting your Zip code in the first link below.

The 2nd link is an antenna you might want to consider. It should be more than adequate for the stations in your area. You will need a rotor, since the two locations are about 180 degrees apart.

The stations are:

Kalkaska:

WCMV ch. 27.1 (RF 17) PBS
WPBN ch. 7.1 (RF 47) NBC
WGTU ch. 29.1 (RF 29) ABC

Gaylord/Vanderbult:

WFUP1 ch. 45.1 (RF 45) FOX
WFUP2 ch. 45.2 (RF 45) CBS

The channel numbers with the suffix, like 27.1 are what you see on your tuner. The channel numbers in parentheses are the actual over-the-air channels, and it's normal for them to be different on some channels. Note that the signals are indeed all UHF.

I presume you understand the techniques necessary for finding and storing digital channels with a modern TV or converter--mainly, the autoscan and double-scan procedures. That's an important part of finding and receiving channels.

In your case, since you have channels 180 degrees opposite, you may need to rescan each time your reorient your antenna from the south to the north or vice-versa.

As for Radio Shack--they serve a useful purpose and some of their products are fine, but it's ordinarily difficult to get expert technical advice there--and quite easy to be led astray.

Good luck.
