I would like my room to look more appealing. Right now it looks to.... bland. I can't paint my walls, my walls are white btw. I have a dark wood bed, vanity, nightstand, and bookcase. I am getting a white desk, and a white mini bookcase or storage bench for my school work (haven't decided yet, im home schooled.) And i am painting my TV stand white. I wanted to get cream colored stuff but that didn't work out.

I was thinking the main colors in my room could be turquoise with accents of another color maybe a dark pink or raspberry. (y'all can choose other colors.) Also should I have another accent color of white or black?

Why does the media avoid the obvious conclusion that vegetarian diets are healthier?

Crocoduck

If you read through the news headlines, you'll often hear about scientific studies finding things such as
*Vegetable protein reduces the chance of heart disease
*Red meat increases the risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease; processed meat is even worse
*Consumption of high-fat high-calorie burgers causes heart disease
*Consumption of beans, lentils, nuts, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer (Basically they're saying that any natural vegetarian food reduces the chance of heart disease and cancer - but they won't ever say the word Vegetarian)
*Seafood contains high levels of Mercury; this is especially hazardous for pregnant women

What you won't ever hear about is any scientific evidence that meat prevents any known disease - because there is no scientific evidence that meat consumption prevents any disease from occurring.

There is only one obvious conclusion that all of these findings are pointing towards - that meat consumption is not necessary, and that vegetarian diets are actually healthier. Yet, you'll never hear that conclusion in a news headline. Instead you'll just read "eat more beans and whole grains", "eat less red meat", etc..

Answer
As Proud Vegan stated, the meat and dairy industries are multibillion-dollar corporations; they have extremely powerful lobbyists and enough money to control much of our government, research and media.

A few examples: It is a well-established fact that the meat, dairy and egg industries "blatantly overstep ethical boundaries through the lobbying tactics they exert over federal officials and the U.S. Department of Agriculture." The Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine (PCRM) successfully sued the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for concealing the fact that more than six of the eleven members of the USDA's Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (which creates the Dietary Guidelines for the entire nation) have deep personal financial ties to the meat, dairy, or egg industries which constitute a severe conflict of interests (such that foods proven to be unhealthy still remain in the governmentâs diet plan). Although the courts ruled in favor of PCRM, these USDA members continue to serve on the board.

The USDA was also attacked when they attempted to implement "Meatless Mondays" in their agency offices. Their newsletter's "Greening Headquarters Update" read in part: "While a vegetarian diet could have a beneficial impact on a personâs health and the environment, many people are not ready to make that commitment. Because Meatless Monday involves only one day a week, it is a small change that could produce big results. According to the U.N., animal agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gases and climate change. It also wastes resources. In addition there are many health concerns related to the excessive consumption of meat.") When the National Cattlemenâs Beef Association and livestock produces publically expressed outrage, the USDA immediately withdraw their newsletter and issued the following public statement: âU.S.D.A. does not endorse Meatless Monday. [The newsletter] was posted without proper clearance."

In addition to their control over the USDA and other government agencies, the meat, dairy and egg industries (which are very heavily subsidized by the government) leap into action against anyone they perceive to be slandering them. For example, when Oprah Winfrey interviewed former cattle rancher Howard Lyman on her TV show, the Texas cattlemen association (led by billionaire Paul Engler) filed suit against Oprah, her guest, Harpo Productions (which produces Oprah) and King World Syndicator for supposedly violating Texas' "Food Disparagement" law by portraying the animal agricultural industry in an unflattering light.

Although "Food Disparagement Laws" purport to apply to all food, it is fairly uncommon for anyone to speak out against the practices of broccoli farming. It is the horrifying, unethical and unsanitary practices of animal agriculture which cause legitimate concern for individual health, social welfare and the environment. From Wikipedia: "Food libel laws, also known as food disparagement laws have been passed in 13 U.S. states to make it easier for food producers to sue their critics. These 13 states include Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. Many of the food-disparagement laws establish a lower standard for civil liability and allow for punitive damages and attorney's fees for plaintiffs alone, regardless of the case's outcome. Food libel laws typically allow a food manufacturer or processor to sue any person or group who makes disparaging comments about their food products. In some states these laws also establish different standards of proof than are used in traditional American libel lawsuits, including the practice of placing the burden of proof on the party being sued."

In Oprah's case, the court ruled against the cattlemen. However, most targets of the meat, dairy and egg industry (whether individuals or corporations) don't have Oprah's resources and are unable to fight back... and in fact even Oprah no longer speaks publicly on the issue (she even refuses to make videotapes of the original TV interview available).

These are just a few examples of the incredible power and reach of the meat, dairy and egg industries. Although the science coming from our leading medical institutions (Cornell, Harvard, et cetera) is overwhelming in favor of vegan and vegetarian diets, there is not currently enough financial power (or political will) to fight these incredibly powerful and monopolizing industries. Worse yet, the so-called "Ag-gag laws" (which make it illegal for concerned employees or citizens to view or report on abuses observed with the animal agricultural industries) are making it harder than ever for activists to reveal the truth about animal agriculture and factory farming.
