why does my tv look like a soap opera?

Victor Gon

I have a sharp 60 inch led when im watching a movie it looks low budget like a soap opera any ideas why and how I can fix it and why its like that???

Answer
You can search for the "Soap Opera Effect" because this is a common problem.

Inside the TV setup menu are some optional settings like "Motion Flow" or other names for software enhancements. Turn these off.

These software tricks are trying to make sure details stand out and try to improve the picture. And details DO pop out, but the effect on the rest of the screen is that it looks like a over-lit soap-opera.

Soap Opera effect on Tvs?

Whats the name of the effect on some LED tvs that make the picture look like a soap opera. & how would I know if a TV has it?

Answer
If you are watching a 24 FPS movie, it is best to turn off your refresh rate if possible, to avoid those artifacts caused by an LED/LCD.... The only TV that does not have those problems is a plasma..They have a normal high refresh rate with no problems on movies, motion blur, and typically have 600 hz. rate on the video..
