Are they same? Will an LED/LCD still save on the amount of power it uses? And will it still have the same picture quality? If they are different, what is a better TV in your opinion?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Led tv is better than a lcd tv. It uses less power and should last longer than a lcd tv.

Led tvs also have better picture that can be viewed from wider angle. if you hang a tv on a wall it can look like a photo negative if the angle is wrong. Look at a lcd tv from the side and you will know what i mean the picture looks good then looks bad a soon as you reach a certain angle to the tv. this is the same for height.

The led tvs have led lighting and they should last longer than the lcd tvs. they uses a lot less power than regular tv and plasma tvs. they use less than lcd tvs also.

What is it really like inside a mental institution or asylum?

Do they really perform horrible experiments on these people? Is it painfully bleak and dreary inside the halls of the building? Do patients hate and want to kill the staff working there? What medicine is most prescribed to the "crazies?" All my conceptions of an asylum i have inferred from watching movies and tv shows. If you have ever been there or worked there , I would please like to know about the conditions inside an asylum from a first-hand source. Thanks in advance.

Answer
The term asylum really isn't used anymore, mostly because of its negative connotations.

There are two basic types of psychiatric hospitals: short term ones in which people stay from 2 days to about a month. And State hospitals where people may stay for many years. There are others, of course, including forensic psych hospitals which treat the criminally insane.

Almost all psych hospitals involve locked units: only staff can come and go. Patients share rooms but are obliged to be active within the unit during the daytime. Family visits are usually in the evening. Patients attend some counseling sessions, meetings with psychiatry, group meetings, and activities. Few of them are interested in hurting the staff. The incidence of violence in the psychiatric population is less than the incidence of violence in the non-psych population.

Basically everyone on such a unit is on meds. Some are on antidepressants, the usual stuff like prozac, following suicidal thoughts or attempts. The psychotic persons are on the usual atypical antipsychotics including risperdal, zypreza, seroquel and many others. It is not uncommon for some to be on the typical (older) antipsychotics such as haldol, stelazine, and occasionally thorazine.

No experimentation takes place. That hasn't been allowed since the end of world war II. It was experimentation on american psych patients during the war that led to the discovery of psych meds.

The movies and TV shows are all crap with regard to reality. I worked at Jacobi hospital in the Bronx, NY but I have dealt with numerous other inpatient psych units in NY and NJ, including State psychiatric facilities. They are not happy places, and some are in poor condition, but they are nothing like TV/movies.

Additionally, I have worked on units that perform ECT (electro-convulsive therapy) which is usually portrayed as barbaric. In fact it is less taxing or harmful on the body of elderly psychiatric patients than psych meds are. Sometimes it brings very good results for people and it is used at dozens of units throughout the country.

I hope this helps.
