I am really curious on how side lighting or edge lighting for LED TVs work. I understand what they do and their advantages and disadvantages, I am looking for an explanation on how the technology works. How can you light a screen from the side without the entire row of pixels being the same color, and do you have to have anything behind the screen to make it work?

The screen or panel consists of rows of individual pixels and the backlighting just makes the image appear whether plasma lcd or led the principals are the same.The led is only the backlighting not color or picture etc.There are 3 types most common edge lit led,lights from edges out to in all sides,full array whole back of set is lit,and plasma gas charged cells lit.Google it or c-net.com for a more thorough explanation.But thats the gist.Edge lit is being phased out and OLED is coming soon which uses even less power to create the best blacks and brightes picture ever.Engadget OLED/HT Mag.com.Top10TVs.com etc.All great informative sites with alot of info.Edge lit was 1st for led as it was better performing and thinner than lcd then micro dimming full array took over and soon OLED,like all tech as soon as one gets great they make a new tech.

How to connect ps3 to samsung led tv?

I've tried connecting to the tv jacks in the side of the with the normal ps3 cable and have gotten no result. What am I doing wrong? I don't know the model on the tv but if it's absolutely necessary to answering this question I'll try to find out. Also am trying not to use any other cables for the hd or picture quality, that is not my main concern.
I've never used a hdmi chord on the ps3
